I've been meaning to pick up this game for such a long time now and finally managed to a few days ago, since then I have well and truely completed the whole game, including all of the side missions. The point I'm trying to make here is that the game is just too flipping small. I'm glad to say though that the size of the game was one of the few things that could have been better on this game. The first thing that caught my eye was the lush graphics that made up the detailed western landscape. Waterfalls, canyons, enormous lakes, beautiful planes. The detail that went into the backgrounds and character designs looks painstaking. I think one of the things that makes the graphics so good is the kind of glowing smoothness that adds to the cinematic experience, something I noticed in metal gear solid 3 also. The character development is good, the main character becoming more and moer likable as the game goes on. The storyline is reasonably good and easy to follow as each mission is an intrinsic part of the storyline (story missions that is). Being able to ride horses around puts a whole new angle on the game and makes it much more interesting, especially when in a gun fight. I'm also pleased to say that the controls whilst on a horse and on foot are perfect, no dodgy controls in this game. However the development of the main character lacks a bit more depth, probably because you only just start to get to know the main character as the game ends. The main story line is also a bit simple and cliche. I liked the idea of the synopsis, where a man with nothing to lose just goes a bit crazy and starts rampaging around for revenge. However the main character doesn't really show much emotion about anything much, and the storyline very quickly moves away from that rather 'real' story of him and onto a story that would be more suited to an Indiana Jones film, except with a better explanation of it at the end.The game is on a whole very easy. With the aid of quick draw (a very similar asset to the quick fire move in Max Payne)it's reletively easy to kill a lot of enemies in one go without being harmed. I also found that my character levelled up faster than the game did, so my guns were quite often too powerful to make things interesting. The reward system is also lacking somewhat. At the end of the game I spent a good hour or two hunting all the animals for the Indian guy. When I finally did all I got was $10, rubbish! But by this time I'd already bought everything from all the stores so money was completely useless! All in all this game has a great feel to it. Great sounds, music, voice acting, directing. The minor issues were so minor I didn't even really think about them until I'd done the game. In a way, because its so short it keeps its novelty and appeal for when you dig it out a year or two later. It's definitely a game worth keeping, and buying if you're looking for a cheap game that's good!

I bought this game quite a while back now when it first came out yet I can't help having fond memories whenever I catch a glimpse of the cover on my shelf, it really is an achievement. When you think of games there are not that many (not that i've played at least) that will spark off nostalgia but this one does, like another reviewer said it is like a cinematic experience. For a start I thought the voice acting was great with Kris Kristofferson (Whistler from Blade) playing the role of Colton White's dad at the beginning, the cut scenes are also much better than most shooter games out there. But for me the real acheivement is the map itself, it cannot boast the mass of say,San Andreas but it doesn't need to because of the lush landscapes, some of the sights you can witness are some of the best I've seen in a game (certainly on the playstation) there are large sunsets over rolling plains, clear blue skies above rivers and waterfalls and at night there's the cloudless sky with a truly massive moon! The storylines' good too, a short, sharp burst of bloody action through the west facing all the foes you'd expect too: cowboys, indians, bandits, murderous priests and greedy train barons, all these things could be seen to be stereotypical of the old west but GUN manages to avoid a feel of cliche I feel because of its authenticity. The towns look real and I think simply the whole game lacks the amount of exaggeration of real types of villains that other games tend to employ which definately works in its favour. The side missions I think are vital to adding a bit more of a sense of fun to the game and really help to break up the main storyline which otherwise could get a bit overwhelming, i thought the bounty hunting missions were good but the hunting missions could get a little frustrating (like when you have a wolf in your sights but then it gets scared and runs off). Yes it is a little short but for what it was I can find no real faults with it, bar one - I just wish it could have gone one step further, for example you can't customise Colton, his clothes change according to where you are in the storyline, you can't play poker whenever you want, and the side missions are just too few, and there's just something lacking here that I just can't put my finger on, play the game and you'll see what I mean, it is such a great game and the big things you want to be right are spot-on yet its the little things that it ever so slightly lets itself down on. Anyway lets just hope and pray that there's a GUN 2 one day and if there is it could really be one of the best games, ever!

Im not a big fan of western films, never have been and probably never will be. But saying that a few good western films have entertained me in the past, so when this game cropped up, i thought i would check it out.First things first, yes the old cliche, it is GTA in the days of cowboys and indians.Presentation - Gun is very well presented. From the opening scenes you can tell that the game is going to run on a good story. Loading screens take a abit of time from the main menu but once the game is actually loaded they are non existantGraphics - Xbox pulls this off well. The landscapes are vast and distant. The viewing distance is pretty far so you can see rocks and valleys from a good distance without noticable clipping. The player models are well detailed, with some nice cigar smoke effects from some of the customers. I do have a slight gripe that i wish there was some more detail in the game. Where the landscapes are big, they could use a little more detail along with the town buildings as well.Sound - Excellent soundtrack, sounds like its being ripped straight from a major hollywood movie. The game has a good supporting cast with the likes of Lance Henrikson (aliens, the quick and the dead), Ron Pearlman (alien resurrection, hellboy) and tom skerritt (alien) hmmmm am i sensing a cast theme here? The general sound effects sound great also.Gameplay - Gun plays fairly well, the controls are not too difficult to handle and the horse riding is very simplistic. Actually using your rifle while riding could of proven to be very difficult, but the controls in the game make it pretty straight forward with a good decent difficulty curve to master. The missions in the game a pretty varied however they do pretty much involve shooting folk.Last Appeal - Gun isnt that difficult a game to complete. With the side missions on offer such as ransoms, helping towns folk, marhsal duty, card games and extras like finding gold mines to dig, it should keep you going for a while. I cant help feel though that the developers could of added more stuff in this game. Perhaps a little more variety in missions and a more missions itself would be good. I dont think the game would take most folk more than a week or 2 to complete and once done there isnt really much more to go back for.Overall ViewThe game does good, it has enough for those that are looking something abit more different that driving around streets completing missions (which there seems to be alot around). gun is good, and just about that.

A quick browse over the reviews will make it clear that many people were disappointed with the length of Gun. The first time run-through, even including side-quests and extras can be completed in 8-10 hours. As long as you prepare yourself for the breivity of the game, then strap yourself in for a great time.Gun is a fantastic and cinematic experience. The storyline really shines through, rising above so many other dire or bland plotlines in other games. The protaganist, Colton White, is a well-shaped character, believable and likeable. The game follows him on a quest to find out what the hell happened when his father and may others were killed aboard a beseiged steamliner. The controls are very intuitive, the weapons are impressive and the action is brutal and bloody. Colton's enemies can literally be shot to pieces and blown apart by high caliber weapons and explosives. It's realistic and often shocking, and I have to admit, very cool. So sue me. The graphics are impressive, movement of the characters is fluid and realistic and the voice acting and sound is of the highest quality.GTA comparisons are cheap and easy. As the father of free-roamers, any free roaming game suffers comparisons to GTA. But don't buy this game expecting anything like San Andreas. Gun is set across a good sized map, nowhere near as big as the massive San Andreas, with 3 or 4 main populated areas that you can frequent and find work as well as taking missions which advance the compelling storyline. It is a huge game, with an epic feeling, but in a different way from any of the GTAs. Comparisons to Rockstar's Red Dead Revolver of a year earlier are inevitable, but where Red Dead Revolver has some comic-book enemies such as evil clowns and gatling gun weilding super fiends, Gun is a little more grounded, realistic, and authentic.Gun gave me a week of unadulterated gaming bliss. Just be aware when you buy it that it is a short game, but it is compelling, impressive, lots of fun and very juicy. Play it on the hard setting for more of a challenge, as normal mode was pretty easy I have to say.Gun is a real experience. Enthralling and above all cinematic. Pick it up cheap, love it, complete it, and complete it again.Short, yes... sweet? Definitely. I adore this game. And I hope for a sequel.

i was very impressed with this game, however i was hugely dissapointed with its length. i got it when i was off school ill, and so i played it quite alot then. after playing for only about 3 hours i felt i was quite far into the plot, which, unfortunatley, i was. this however, is my only vice with the game. the plot is really very gripping, and kept me playing simply to find out what happened next. the game borrows heavily from classic western films, and i was pleased that i could play out all my favourite bits from cheesy clint eastwood films, such as shooting through the hangmans rope to save an ally. fighting apaches off the bridge out of dodge city and the street fight as you work your way through empire to kill the corrupt mayor were particularly enjoyable.weaponry is also good and well designed, as you really feel that you are doing damage with your weapons, especially the shotguns. the 'quick draw' ability is an almost unashemed rip-off of 'red dead revolvers''s dead eye ability, but that doesnt really matter to me. the only annoying thing about the weapons is that you can get too good with them. near the end of the game, you get the furgison rifle, which fires slowly (in real life) and must be reloaded after each shot. however, if you have done most of the side missions, you can fire it almost semi automatic, and you can fire your pistols almost continually with basically no relaod time by the end. the game also gets rather rediculous near the end, with the final boss being encased in armour so you cant hurt him, and having a ludicrously powerful and annoyingly accurate Nock gun, as featured in sharpe. it took me absoloutely ages to figure out how to kill him. generally, the game plays very well, and is quite accurate in its representation of the period. i thouroughly enjoyed playing this game, but was dissapointed by its length. definatley worth haveing. oh and by the way, if you buy it, play on hard. its much more rewarding, as normal mode is very very easy.

A great arcade western shoot em up in an open world environment, before red dead redemption there was GUN. Get revenge on some bad guys, explore the wild west, play some poker, become a bounty hunter, fight the Indians, search for gold and at high noon be ready for a showdown.positives- great gun fights makes you feel like the greatest gunslinger in the west, weapon choice authentic and all feel really cool to use, you have a special ability called quick draw where you slow down time with lighting fast gunplay just like in the old western movies.- great open space environments from towns, canyons and rugged terrain filled with buffalo, all make you feel apart of the west riding on your trustee horse- Many side missions from being a bounty hunter to running errands for the pony express, all adds to the time period- Interesting story of revenge, with cool looking villains that takes you on a trek across the great west.-character skills upgrades for weapons, hunt for gold with you're trusty pickaxe be sure to pick it up in the first town.Overall it's just got some good fun gameplay in an authentic feeling world capturing that time in an almost some up way with western music, environments, Indians so on, really easy to get into starts into it very quickly.NEGATIVES- Not fully open world just does a good job of convincing you it is, forced paths so on, but still a good job I never felt to constricted in the game.- Again graphical quality isn't the best but gameplay is solid fun arcade action Graphics could be better but not unplayable if wanting a more graphical version try the Xbox 360 version and also its released on steam.I don't have to much criticism I remember playing this as a kid and being fascinated by it the setting, the gunplay it just went well, Almost finished it in one sitting. Thanks for reading the review definitely buy like western set games, arcade shoot em ups, a little bit of cowboy role playing.

set in the untamed west of the late 1800's, GUN is a free-roaming action adventure game thats takes you to a world without laws - where greed, lust and murder are rampant. As colton white, a vengeful gunslinger, you must straddle the line between good and evil in a showdown against corrupt lawmen, a murderous preacher, renegade army psycopaths, merciless outlaws, and relentless warring tribes. along the way youll wage war on horseback, collect bounties and protects whores. travel through an action packed landscape of high mountain wilderness, deserts, and bustling territorial towns in an epic story of betrayal greed and revenge.colton white is an anti hero baddass trying to uncover a mystery involving his fathers death and his own life, and whos behind it all when he looses everything, and sets out on a renegade adventure to kill those in order to avenge his father. the graphics are ok on ps2 but better on xbox and 360, the controls are easy and you can do alott, cause havok in towns, hunt wilderness beasts, kill or capture bounties, work on horse delivery service, work as a ranch hand all whilst trying to upgrade your stats, yep this game has its fair share of rpg preferances, youll also get an arsenal of weapons throughout the game, and its very epic, but the map coulve been somewhat bigger and the main storyline coulve been atleast 10 missions longer but what you get is still amazing, gripping and action packed with its fair share of twists and so on, also try and find the hidden 45 gold rocks through-out the map. exellent game, amazing storyline you cant go wrong with GUN.

This game has changed my life. It's so sad.Basically, i got this game. Great story, superb graphics. I can not honestly say that i found one bad thing inabout it. One minor thing is the fact that once you complete the story and the side missions (100% complete), you get an armoured horse and a cannon nock shotgun (sorry for any spoilers) but by this time you have totall demolished the game and there's nobody left to fight. It took me two days to complete, going on it for about two hours each day.I advise getting this game.Since playing it, i have had a disgusting love of the old spaghetti westerns, starring clint eastwood.Colton White, the main character in the game, has the same 'man with no name'feel about him.The side mssions include bounty missions, poker, protecting the town, ranch missions, hunting, and transporting goods on your horse. The music suits the game so well. The opening scene, just after the tutorial should go down in game history. Totally a great moment, and the sound guy at neversoft deserves a raise....if he had totally mucked up like all the tony hawk's soundtracks...Graphics: 9/10 - Realistic. Apart from the blood to some extent.Sound: 10/10 - Su-bloody-perbMastery: 8/10 - The PS2 can go further, but it's nothing bad.Lifespan: 8/10 - Short, but the side missions, and you WILL want to play it again. If you enjoyed this, play:Resident Evil 4Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This game was a pleasant surprise. You play as a Davie Crockett character hunting down a preacher who killed your father. As you wander about, or indeed ride around the wild west you come across others who ask you to perform tasks. In return you get a reward of some sort and its on your way.The graphics are a bit dated but actually suit the western style of the game. All the tasks are the sort of things you get in western movies. Shoot indians, shoot bandits, rescue maidens in distress etc. Its pretty good fun, especially if you are a fan of the wild west. The controls can be a bit cumbersome and the quickdraw, a sort of quicktime event, can be a blessing and a curse. The controls do get frustrating when the action heats up. As a result, some tasks can be a bit repetative because it is too fiddly to undertake, like shooting blazing arrows out the sky. The tutorial is helpful.Overall, I enjoyed this and wouldn't mind trying a similar game again in the current gen. I thought the story was quite good as well...for a change!

I am into action shooter games and Westerns, and this is a good mix of both of those things. It has some of the best voice acting I have ever heard in a game. To me the game play is solid as a rock. I have never played a game where the horse was an intrigal part of the game, the sheer amount of ways you can maneuver the horse. You can use it in combat, and it beats walking from town to town. I was impressed with the different types of weapons I could use, and the fact that they had some historic accuracy to them. Aside from the main storyline, you can participate in lots of activities, like playing poker, being a bounty hunter, or even riding for the pony express. It keeps the game interesting and more fun.I am glad I purchased it and it is still high on my list of favorite games.

Well, I have been playing GUN for a few days now and I have to say that this is one of the best 3rd person games I have ever played. Your character is Colton White, who is trying to avenge the death of his 'father', who gets killed at the start of the game. This leads you into the meat of the game, which is not unlike GTA. There are the main story missions to progress in the game, however there are side missions such as playing poker at the saloon, or helping ranchers to look after their herds. While that might sound boring, it does help improve you shooting or horse riding skills and earn you money. The story so far has been good, with an excellent cast of voices involved from the movie world.Good game play, good cast, good story and great graphics. What more could you want!

This game was indeed a bit of a surprise. I love Grand Theft Auto games, and tend to buy the clones to keep me going; Gun looked like one, so I bought it. It does have quite a few similarities to GTA,but is definitely its own animal. As has been said, the game is a little short. The main story mission is very engaging, but you wish it it had taken longer to flesh out. You will enjoy what there is though. The side missions are a bit repetitive, but I ended up doing them all to get the 100%. Visually, the game is very good, the voice work is actually also very good, and the music gives the game a nice atmospheric western feel.I would recommend this game, as it is definitely worth playing, but I would hope to see Gun 2 one day, on the PS3, as a much larger and expansive game.

The shooting action is great, though it's not for the faint of heart. The makers of this game must be big fans of HBO's Deadwood or something, because the level of violence and general vulgarity in Gun greatly surpasses what you'd probably expect from a typical Western, even if you've seen some of the gorier ones. Gun pays tribute to the classic films in the genre, from the unbelievable rescue from the gallows in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly to the unforgettable last battle (courtesy of a Gatling gun) in The Wild Bunch. However, Gun isn't just bloody; it's downright gnarly at times, like when you blast a big chunk out of an enemy's head with a clean shot from your rifle. Expect graphic violence, racism, and misogyny in heavy doses during the course of the game.

After seeing the adverts for this game, I thought that it looked dull and like nothing special. I then played it, and my view instantly changed. The game combines several gaming aspects, from Horse Riding, to heavy shooting to adventure. You play as Cole, a young man who has to carry out many tasks in order to discover the truth surrounding his past and present. The game is set in the wild west, with a range on enemies from Indian natives and gang members that are waiting to get a shot at you.If you enjoy action orientated games, that do include other aspects, then this is the game for you! The involving game play will keep you interested from start to finish.Graphics - 8/10Gameplay - 10/10Story- 8/10Longativity - 6/10Overall - 7/10

This is probably the best game I have played. The storyline is epic with excellent music to accompany it, the graphics are breathtaking, with rolling mountains and highly detailed desert, rivers, bridges, horses and characters. But thats not all, the action is amazing, with shootouts between you and indians, you and bandits and anyone who gets in your way. The 'Quickdraw' is a very useful aspect of the game making it more dramatic, and the shooting flow better. Its very fun to play and also watch, as it could be a good film. Its only downfall, as said in other reviews is its length, it should be longer as the time your playing on it just flies by. Overall an excellent game, with few, if any, faults. Lets hope for a longer Gun 2!
