CALL OF DUTY 3 is the latest in the series of successful FPS combat games, with this one putting you in France during the closing year or so of World War II. The early sections of the campaign take you through the basics of aiming, shooting, grenade-throwing, reloading and so forth, which is good, because reading the manual and seeing a whole list can seem daunting, but this eases you in gently and more games should do something like this if they're not already. You don't always play the same character. Once you've done one bit you might find yourself playing another character in a completely different troop elsewhere in the country. This might seem odd at first, but you're pretty much filled in on what's going on by the cut-scenes. The problem I have with these cut-scenes is that you can't skip them, which can be a real pain if you've stopped playing a session of COD3 and come back to it later and have to sit through all that again. Why did the developers think this was a good idea? It's just annoying to have to watch it again, so would it have really hurt to put in a feature to skip these if you'd seen them before?Anyway, when you change character you also change weapons, so make sure that you are aware of what your current character has when you first start to play. Each mission target is highlighted by a yellow star that you must reach (if there's more than one then you can choose one if it's a path to take, or in some cases if there's more than one target - e.g. you have to blow up three gun emplacements - there would usually be a yellow star for each one). Once an objective is completed you then get your next order and proceed to the next yellow star. Along the way expect German opposition. While much of the action involves shooting, crouching and going prone to help you (the latter two actions can not only be used to hide, but shots become more accurate), there are also bits where you might have to drive a vehicle, or even just be a passenger and shoot other baddies, either with your own guns or with the vehicle's existing weapon (or you both drive and shoot if you're in the tank). When you set explosive charges you get instructed to do various button and stick actions. The on-screen instructions are easy to follow but these are not always the same (can't understand the reason for this, but there you go). You also use the X button occasionally to do some context-dependent actions (e.g. someone might want to boost you over a wall). Some bits allow for melee attacks. The most basic one is to click the right stick to hit someone with the butt of your gun, but other context-defined bits might cause you to have to rapidly click the left and right triggers to overcome an adversary who's grappling with you or trying to stab you or whatever. These instructions appear on-screen as per the explosive charges mentioned earlier.Multiplayer allows for up to 4 players split-screen on the same console (which is one thing that it has over GEARS OF WAR), or you can have more using XBox Live. In Multiplayer modes you actually get vehicles in some of the scenarios, which is fun. You can also sprint by holding down the left stick (this puts up the Binoculars in the campaign mode, which you cannot do in multiplayer, which is a bit of a shame). There are a few multiplayer options such as Capture The Flag, Headquarters (you go to an HQ and protect it) and one where you take over more of the territory than your opponent by raising a flag by standing beside it (meaning someone could sneak up on you and waste you).COD3 is enjoyable, but unfortunately the mighty GEARS OF WAR is a little better. Somehow it's more fun to be able to see yourself hiding in that game's third-person perspective, doing cool SWAT turns and roadie runs. Somehow hiding just doesn't have quite the same appeal in COD3's FPS. Also, it seemed that occasionally cover would not work even though I believed it was enough to hide me, yet on one occasion I was hiding behind a rock and I was sure that some of the Germans were shooting me through it, which can be annoying. Also, a little more variation in the dialogue that spurs you on (e.g. 'Move, move, move!', 'Outta here!') would not have gone amiss, because you hear phrases like this a bit too often and they can get tiresome.Graphics are great, gameplay is pretty good (although it might take some getting used to if you're used to other games of this type, such as GOW or RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS), and the sound is atmospheric enough to allow you to be immersed in the experience.Rated 15 by the BBFC due to strong violence.

Published by: ActivisionDeveloped by: Treyarch / EXAKT EntertainmentCall of Duty is a 1 or 2 player first person shoot em up.ESRB Content Descriptors: Blood, Language, ViolenceAlso Available On: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2 and WiiThrough the eyes of four Allied soldiers, Call of Duty 3 brings players closer than ever to the fury of combat as they fight through the Normandy Breakout, the harrowing offensive that liberated Paris and changed the fate of the world.First thoughtsC.O.D has had its graphics tweaked; this makes it a lot better to the eye.Well I have been playing this on the Playstation 2 and noticed an improvement from the other Call of duty games I had played before. The developers have made more of an effort in the storyline. In between the missions it shows a cinematic footage of what is happening around you and what the missions expects of you, this makes it seem more real somehow.Playable armies include American, Polish, Canadian and British. The setting has changed; Call of Duty 3 takes place during the Normandy landing. The game starts on June 6th at Normandy and covers the 88 days before Paris was liberated. This covers 18 missions to get to your goal.I started of as an American solider, after a little target practice and to get use to the controls, I decided to start the missions.I was then told to get in the truck to go to a hot point (not a washer) where our soldiers are being over run. You are sat there in the truck minding your own business when BANG!!! The truck has been hit by an enemy shell. You are then thrown out of the truck and land on the ground, where some of your buddies help you up, all this is happening while rockets and gun fire is going off all around you.An officer is heard shouting orders at you to get behind a wall, bullet tracers and smoke is filling the air, and this bloke wants me to follow him into the battle. Not for me thanks ill stay here and get my rifle out and pop a few Germans off :)There is a old church where snipers are hiding waiting for you to pop your head out, somehow you have to sneak around them and then take them out.....ah you think that's a bit better....Oh did I mention the tanks that come crashing through the walls :( Then a plane comes into view and crashes and the whole screen shakes. After a while the smoke settles and you move up, then the new "Battle action" kicked in, waiting for me around a corner was a German. What's the "Battle action" I hear you ask...its a new way of hand to hand fighting, as in real life he just jumps out at you and you don't have time to get you gun up and shoot, so the clever people who made C.O.D have added his new ay of taking out your enemy at close range, it consists tapping the joypad buttons in combination, it was a good feature, Shocked me at first as I didn't read the book....I just wanted to get on with the game :)Well I don't want to spoil it to much for you, but you get the picture.Good improvement in the graphics, loads of realistic smoke and flames, the building come crashing down around you without a warning. The vehicles are easy enough to handle after a while, and you have a good choice of weapons you can use and even pick up the enemies weapons if you running lowI would say 9/10 for the graphics, 9/10 for the sound, I played it through the sound surround it was like you was really there. The game play I would give 9/10 nothing better than getting shut of a few Nazi's.Overall I would give Call of Duty 3 9/10 it will keep you busy for a while :)

i'm sure that most gamers will agree that once you've played COD 2 on 360, i takes a really solid game to par it. After i heard about call of duty 3, i was really exited, mostly because i wanted to see if Treyarch could do a better job with COD than infinity ward.when my copy arrived in the post i couldn't wait to get in there, (i even skipped breakfast!) but first impressions where worrying. After having to sit through numerous un-skippable cut-scenes, your taken through to the training mission where i discovered COD 3's most fatal flaw. They've made all the guns sound the same! and whats worse, they look and sound like a something a five-year-old should be playing with. In COD 2,the guns both looked and sounded serious and dangerous like all guns should. Take the british "lee-enfield" for example, in COD 2 it was a powerful single-shot rifle that made a noise that echoed through the level. In COD 3 however, the gun looks un-realistic and when you fire it, all you hear is a faint pop.Aside from the this flaw though, COD 3 is a really enjoyable and in turn challenging game, but one first-time reviewer made a compliant that this game crashes, freezes and you get stuck in the environment. This isn't the case with my copy: maybe it's just your copy or your 360 thats the problem, mate. Anyway, one new feature is that you actually get the chance to drive vehicles, and not like those dodgy tank levels in COD 2 either. You can actually drive jeeps and tanks, just like you would in battlefield 2. And trust me, theres nothing more satisfieng than driving a tank right up your best mates ass on live on xbox live!Notice how i haven't even mentioned the story-line yet, thats because it sorta, rides in the back seat next to the outstanding action and choise of weapons. Basically, you play as four different men from 4 different countries, America, Britain, Canada and Poland. Its based during the Normandy outbreak in France just after D-day. Pretty much the same as COD 2 in aspects of the story-line, get briefed, get yer gun, go kill some Germans, blow something up and, occasionally, stuff a grenade down a german's panties. There are too many new features in this game to mention in one review, so i'll close by mentioning the new hand-to-hand combat system. This brings you up close and personal with a ugly german, so you can slap him with ya gun, kick him in his danglyschriemers and push him off something high.A good solid game with plenty of new features, but missed COD 2's benchmark by miles.Graphics: 10/10 (superb)Gameplay: 7/10A.I: 4/10 (annoying and useless)Longitivity: 5/10 (only 14 missions! endless fun on live)controls: 9/10 (same as COD 2)

Unlike most of my mates, I'm still a big fan of World War II games. I remember my first time storming Omaha Beach in Medal of Honor: Frontline, and I was hooked. But, after a while, you can't help but get the been-there, done-that feeling about WWII shooters. Throughout the years, however, the Call of Duty franchise has managed to recreate historic battles, many of which are relatively unknown to the average gamer.Which brings us back to the Normandy Breakout, which happens to be the Allied campaign following D-Day that resulted in the liberation of Paris. Whereas COD2 was spread across Africa and France and Russia, COD3 is much more localized. As Americans, British, Polish and, finally,Canadians, you'll liberate Paris from four sides, which helps to bring a cohesiveness to the single-player game that COD2 lacked.Although Treyarch took over from Infinity Ward, the gameplay mechanics remain largely the same. With a regenerating health system, you fight your way from objective to objective and through a variety of scripted moments -- what COD does best. Although the missions are fun and well laid-out, including vehicles as well, the gameplay mechanics are getting a bit stale. COD3 is fun, don't get me wrong. But after playing Rainbow Six Vegas and Gears of War, both with outstanding cover systems, I can't help but wish something like this would be applied to a WWII game. In the end, the single-player missions feel more like an expansion pack to COD2, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that this franchise needs a breath of fresh air.Completely revamped, COD3 plays like a next-gen Battlefield 1942, complete with classes of soldiers and a ton of vehicles. Scouts can call in artillery strikes; medics can inject their miracle needle to save a re-spawn, and support gunners can lay down the .50 cal and obliterate people. In short, the COD3 multiplayer is outstanding, a complete overhaul on the mediocre mode in COD2. With a ton of game modes and huge, sprawling maps, COD3 could jump on top as one of the most popular multiplayer games out now.Clearly Treyarch put the most focus in overhauling multiplayer, and the effort has paid off. With a decent, more focused single-player campaign and an excellent online mode, COD3 is a great WWII shooter. Still, this series is in need of something new, be it a whole new campaign outside of Europe or even WWII.Oh, and COD3 has the best looking grass of any game in history aswell!!Overall, a great game. A must buy on the xbox 360, because of the truly stunning visuals!

This is the only COD game I've played as a friend lent it to me,so I haven't had the pleasure of the PC or previous console ones, they may be better or worse but I wouldn't know, just to say this was stunning. It starts a little obvious with the essential 'tutorial' though this is relatively short and over with. Then into the first of 14 levels, what strikes you immediately is the scale, soldiers are running everywhere as well as explosions left, right and centre and it's all very intense.Like previous COD games, you alternate between several sides,U.S,Polish etc.and this breaks up the story somewhat and makes it more interesting as one big mission as the same guy can get tedious. Now here are the prosand cons, obviously it looks great but some of the areas are inaccessible so trying to find cover can be hit and miss, several times I tried to go down an alleyway or behind some crates for cover only to find out they were 'fenced' off.No health packs, just the need to find cover to heal, this I see is becoming more commonplace,Turok,Timeshift,Jericho..and you focus more on the action rather than trying to find some healing items.A couple of niggles, but not enough to annoy, dancing round a location trying to trigger the next set piece can be tiresome as well as sitting through the intros everytime you start, the only major niggle I found which I would probably knock maybe half a point off is the action sequences, these usually involve button combinations and the stick(s),setting a charge is easy enough but rowing the boat was a fiddle as well as range finding on the mortar, the vehicles are a bit clumsy to start with, the Jeep (Vera) is quickly picked up but the tank can be like rubbing your stomach/patting your head though. Not a long game, maybe 8-10 hours, but intense enough to cover this up,indeed the closing five minutes are the best moments in gaming I've played and the hairs on my neck went up,the only other game to provoke an emotion was the ending to Syberia 2.Excellent!,it's a shame there were no bots in multiplayer as it looked quite good but well worth it for the single player.

Call of Duty 3 (COD 3) is a very nice package, indeed. It includes 14- decent sized albiet linear (Straight forward) levels, that are generally a lot of fun and each level has lots of unique features in them (whether its a hand- to- hand fight sequence, or laying down bombs, using a mortar gun, rowing a ship the list goes on) that are very fun and challenging. Despite the linear level design the AI is excellant, enemies use grendes to get you out of cover, the enemies take cover and use certain tactics and they respond to your everymove. The story line is a bit dull, you can't really keep track of each individual one because you keep swapping squads. There are several giltches, this game has frozen a few times (this is NOT a problem with my 360, it has never crashed before this game) and your team members sometimes don't move. But you can expect these issues to be inroned out via update by the new-year. The multi-player is exceptional, not only is the gameplay incredibally intence and the maps the best deseign I have ever played you are sure to have fun with this. There is also an incredible amount of variety when playing multi-player, there are around 8 different classes to choose from (ranging from submachine gunners to anti- armour infantry) you can also find vehicles such as tanks scattered around the maps. The graphics are easily second best on the 360, (behind gears of war)you see that cutscene? Thats real gameplay graphics. When it rains the soldiers get wet, when you lay on grass, it flattens, the smoke effects are still the best, a continuing feat from COD2. The phisics are effective the lighting fantastic, the enemy soldiers look as good as the characters standing next to you, so much happens at once, so many little details make the game amazing. You walk through a level slowly and you will see. Finally the sound and rumble features really add to the experience. Trust me. Buy this game for Christmas (or any other time of course!)

Call of Duty 3 was always going to be a hit or miss on the next gen interactive Wii console. It might not look half as good as the PS3 or Xbox360 versions but what it offers is a more enjoyable, more accomplished game. If you were hoping to play online or have a multiplayer match with your mates than this game really isn't for you.The game follows several characters including an American soldier called Nichols and several other armies likle the British, and Polish. You follow all of these but not one at a time. One mission you might be playing as the Americans and the next you might be playing as the Polish. The story line of the game is about after D-Day and the allies attempt to re-capture France, forcing the Nazis into the Falaise gap. You'll sabotage, destroy and do everything you'd expect in a WW2 shooter. The graphics aren't ground breaking or impressive. There are a few nasty textures about but if you're not shallow enough to not buy a game because of it's visual prowess, you won't mind. The sound is pretty atmospheric but the music where a blood thirsty Nazi is pushing a gun against you gets annyoing, especially when you can't do it.But the best bit about this game how you play it. you actually feel as if you're improving as a soldier becoming a skilled marksmen. Punching the Wii remote towards the screen will do a melee attack. B is to shoot and holding A will look down the barrel of your weapon, for more precise shooting. You get to plant charges which takes 3 different movements with the Nunchuk controller. At first you will need to turn down the sensitivity as it takes a while to train a steady, accurate hand. You get to drive a car, row a boat all using the Wii's unique interactive gameplay. It really is great. This game is pretty big and you can knock up a good 15 hours on the campaign. The game, sadly has little to no extras. But what you get is a fantastic package of what the Wii can really do.

Whilst the single player is very enjoyable, albeit fairly standard stuff for anyone who's played COD 2, where this game really shines is when you connect to Xbox live and get involved in a 24 man battle with players from around the world. You take on one of the 7 roles available in order to help yourself or your team win. Each role provides you with a unique ability, whether it's having the weapons to snipe at people from distance, a bazooka to blow up tanks and other vehicles or just standard assault guns to kill people easily from closer range. You can also be a medic and revive fallen team mates. Everytime you die you can change your soldier to any of the 7 options. So if the other team starts running riot in a tank, just change to the anti-armour character and take it down. There are several modes to play. I prefer the team based ones like War (where you have to compete against another team to win all 5 of the territories on a given map area) and Capture the Flag (where you have to go into the enemy territory and steal their flag and take it back to your base) and headquarters. All involve a lot of team work and will see you having to attack and defend in equal messures. There is also a standard Battle mode where you get rated just on how many people you kill either as a team or individual. It's easily my favourite multiplayer game and I usually choose to play it ahead of Gears of War and Rainbow 6: Vegas (both are also excellent by the way). I've lost count of the number of hours I've spent online on this game.So in conclusion I'd give it 4 1/2 stars. A lot of that is down to the multiplayer aspect. If you don't play on line, then probably rent it, unless you really enjoy this genre, but for those who have Xbox live and enjoy having fun then this is right up there at the top of the list. Oh, if you care about graphics, they are amazing both off and online.

Firstly, I must point out that Call of Duty 3 does NOT have any kind of multiplayer mode. So if you want a multiplayer FPS, look away now.OK, now that's out the way, Call of Duty 3 has been frequently called the best launch title FPS that you can buy for the Wii. I can say with confidence that the controls are spot-on (and much better than Red Steel's) and although for the first few minutes, the only things that should be worried are the sky, the floor and the walls, you'll soon be head-shotting Germans with a bit of practice. The missions are varied and enjoyable, most taking full use of the Wii-Mote and nunchuk. Some of the highlights include driving missions, rowing a boat, setting up explosive charges and more.Graphically, we're talking Xbox textures, Xbox effects, Xbox polygon counts. Sound is where Call of Duty 3 excels. Hearing your allies chatter and bullets zip past your head create a great atmosphere. Now this is a launch title so it isn't without it's flaws...1) At the beginning of some levels (and every now and again in the middle of a level) there's about 5 - 10 seconds where the Wii-Mote fails to respond to anything (normally ending up in the screen spinning in circles).2) While the frame rate is solid 99% of the time, it can and will fall at big battles.3) Cut scenes can't be skipped, no matter how many times you've seen them.4) A bit on the short side, but difficulty levels will keep you coming back (unlike Red Steel).5) No multiplayer! So I highly recommend this game if you want an FPS for the Wii's launch window. Once you're done with it sell it, and there will be a better FPS (hopefully with online play) around the corner. If you don't plan on buying this but like FPSs, this title would make a great rental. If you have an Xbox 360, skip the Wii version and get it for 360 instead as it has better graphics and multiplayer support.

Compared to call of duty 2, this seems like a step back in some ways, but a leap forward in others. The single player campaign is quite rpetitive with fustrating and time consuming mini games whuch are supposed to add inovatave gameplay into the picture. Over time they just become tedious, especially on the ps3 and wii because you have to repeat the same hand motions every time, and time again.there are about 13 chapters in cod3, and they're all very similar. But enough about the let downs; cod3 biggest step is the online multiplayer which is very fast paced and of a large scale of upto 24 players, many vehicles and many types of soilders you can play as (medic, heavy support, scout ect).24 players is really the limit of players that you want, after that the online game will become disorganised and confusing, much like resistance: fall of mans online multiplayer. And the visuals are the most notable difference in cod3. The helmets and clothes of enemies and teamates are enriched with an astonishing amount of detail, fortunetley, because this game was made with 360 cpu's (because they're much easier software to work with than sonys gpu's), the game looks best on the 360, then on the ps3 where some of the textures and details become slightly blurred (because it's been crossed platformed, it happens with many games even on last-gen systems). That doesn't mean to say they look bad...they don't.In conclusion i would say cod3 is about on par with cod2, due to a dull single player camaign, but great multiplayer, and the tedious mini games. I would have said 360 would be the platform to play this game on because it was made for that console and cross platformed to the others, plus the tedious mini games seem less tedious due to the console not having a motion sensative controller. Why not go and buy it...and if not...why not?

well i was just bit late in gaming and i am not a kind of guy who plays games regularly. while i played san andreas , maxpayne, smack down vs raw i lost interest in all these games after playing for 2hours at the max. but call of duty3 is the first game ever which kept me intterested till the very end.while i was seeing the game for the first time they showed some clips of ww2 in the beginning and when the army was marching towards me on the screen i thought it was also some video clip of 1940's but hell no it was graphics. the graphics was so amazing at times u cannot differentiate whether its real or graphics.the sound was amazing as well but there are certain levels which r crazy and almost impossible to finish.so u need to go to websites such as ign.com and read the strategy guide on how to finish the game other wise u will be continuously playing some levels which r unfinishable they just have some clues so each level will not take more than a hour.one thing which i didnt like is u cannot carry more than 2 weapons at any time. and the ammos and guns are very limited unlike other games and u manually need to pickup weapons and ammos each time, at times in battle u might forget to take 1 and u cannot finish it. like the rocket launcher if u forget to pick it up u cannot finish that level. and sometimes u will be left without any ammo and u neeed to restart the level again and if u plan to play it another day u neeed to watch all the movies again and u cannot skip.but these glitches are minor and never affects the game play and 1 example as i said is i used to hate video games b4 playing this 1 but now i hate those who hate video games

first of all i got this for a christmas present along a few other wii games, when i started playing it the graphics were great and the gameplay was excellent. the wii seemed to really excel in the gameplay.but towards the end of the game i could tell that the developers still had a few bugs to iron out. for instance some times the wii remote seems to completely ignore you and turn your soldier into a spinning top on the screen. unfourtunately the germans seem to hate this and instantly cut you up with bullets, which doesn't help.also occasionly the game freezes, this has only happend to me once but i was right at the end of a mission. this really annoyed me because i had to do it all again.but apart from that this game really is fantastic, the gameplay is incredible and the graphics are commendable. the graphics in the clips are definetely xbox 360 standard and i was impressed. the story is also fantastic, you play as the americans, the british, the canadians and the polish. each have diffferent weapons and tactics. they each have their own character to. for instance the british have a major who i can just imagine sipping tea and saying cricket.overall this is a fantastic game and i definetly reccomned, it is one of the first decent shooters for the wii, it has a decent length and great gameplay. if you can just be patient then this game is fantastic.

This is a great FPS. The best thing about this game is there is a whole lot of room for mistakes. If you accidentaly rush too fast round a corner and get shot - you lose health of course, but in this game your health charges up continuously so if you make a mistake like that you can just wait a few seconds and your health will replenish. Some would say thats too forgiving but really - do you really enjoy making silly mistakes and having to pay for them by having to repeat yourself over and over again until you've memorised every enemy movement? (like in project snowblind for example). In this game theres pretty much none of that, its just constant action.Dont get it wrong either - it definitly has its fair share of game over screens, the developers threw in plenty of times where if you stick your head out of cover you'll be dead in a few seconds and getting past these challenging firefights is what makes this game so good and exciting. It really feels like your in a very sticky situation. Of course its not too hard because of the forgiving system, but its definitly challenging and its very exciting. Call of Duty 2 is better than this though because theres alot more variety.

As a big fan of COD2 Big red one, i couldn't wait for the sequel, and io was not disappointed.Call of Duty 3 is an outstanding game, featuring many challenging levels, with a well written storyline. It combines all the best parts of a WWII film and any other FPS around. It leaves current versions of medal of honour standing, i've just completed MOH:Frontline, having borrowed it from a friend to compare it to COD3. While the story was good, in terms of gameplay and graphics, it can't compete with COD3.The selection of weapons is authentic, and the control of vehicles is much better than it was on COD2, now when driving jeeps, rather than using the anaolg stick, you have different controls, which make it a lot easier and more fun to drive. And for all the people who say it's too short and can't be bothered to play it again on medium or hard, play it on medium or hard from the start, and you'll get at least double the time it takes to do it on easy, as you can't just run in, all guns blazing on hard.Definately would recommend this game to any fan of FPS war games.Great story, gameplay, graphics, weapons, hours of fun.

Some people have been complaining about this game, saying that it is too short. Personally, I think the general length of the game is not short at all... however it is easier to complete than many other titles. It's main rival probably being either being the "Medal of Honour" series or the "Brothers In Arms" games; I would have said this is by far the best. Being slightly easier than these titles, it means that you honestly don't get bored until you finish working through all 14 campaign levels due to the fact that you dont constantly keep dying and restarting missions. The story guides you through the WWII Normandy Conquest, after D-Day in June 1944. The main importance being that the character you play varies, due to you following the American, British, Canadian and Polish forces - all of which are closing down on the town of Chambois. The graphics are some of the best I have seen on the PS2, and now that the PS3 has been released this is definately one of the games that I would recommend if you cant afford one (like me). Great game and thoroughly enjoyable - Definately worth the money.
