I first bought this game as a christmas present for my brother. However I really just bought it for myself and put his name on it. I have been a fan of all the Medal Of Honor games and was convinced into buying 'Rising Sun' once I heard there were brand new modes including Multiplayer, Online and Co-Operative. So I plugged in the game to see what it was like and bore witness to graphics which appear to have got worse since 'Frontline'. I continued to play, hoping the mediocre graphics would not affect the gameplay. Then the nightmare occurred and I was plunged into a plastic tree zone with a sniper rifle, fighting japanese troops nose to nose. The level was fog ridden and the graphics had gone from poor to absolutely bloody shoddy.Having up close gun fights with only a sniper rifle isn't what I call fun. Having to trudge through a pitch-black forest not being able to see any enemies because the graphics are THAT bad isn't what I call fun either. So I refused to touch the game ever again.A few months later I had got myself a network adapter and was awaiting the arrival of SOCOM 2. I didn't have any other network games available other than Medal Of Honor, so I gave it a chance. What I found was a fairly well executed online shooter. It may lack game modes, but it is one of the best games to have a deathmatch on. After the online mode continued to grow on me I had a shot on the multiplayer mode with a few mates and had an absolute blast. The multiplayer mode is pure magic and there is certainly nothing better than a sniper battle on a baseball field, blowing the heads off your unsuspecting mates. The game continued to grow on me and I gave the single player game one more shot. After getting past the hellacious jungle mission, I began to enjoy it and it had that traditional Medal Of Honor feel to it, which is exactly what I wanted. Overall, despite the butt-ugly graphics 'Rising Sun' is a great game, but it takes time to get into it. If you have a couple of quid and a couple of mates you should buy this without a second thought, because Medal Of Honor is one of the gems of the PS2 multiplayer experience.Reviewed By Richard TonerOverall - 7.5/10

I have never played on any other 'Medal Of Honor' games before this one and i wasn't expecting that much of it to be honest. How wrong i was. This is an amazing game set in the second world war which is amazingly realistic. This is not just down to the supurb graphics, but you can just imagine what it would have been like in those situations, for example when you have to put out the fires in the ship on the first level in order to get onto the top deck before the thing sinks.Ok, maybe the whole thing is abit easy overall, especially for hard-core gamers, but thats only if your are on it not stop and besides,it's such a good game that you will want to keep playing it over and over again. You can basically play this game in two ways: you can use stealth; creeping up on your opponents and by using the sniper rifle to kill the enermies before they get near you; or you can just charge your way into the enemy lines and shoot them all before they have a chance to get you. I personally, use a mixture of both, depending on wether it is nessesary. This i think, is how you will get the most out of the game and really enjoy all the different qualities. The are ten massive levels across five missions and one of the great things about this game is that there are loads of different ways that you can stop those nasty 'Japs' and complete the level. this impressive feature adds a little bit extra length to the game in that you can complete it several times, each time different routes. Saying this, you obviously end up in the same places but you can get to them in different ways.'Medal Of Honor: Rising Sun' is an amazing game which takes to whole series another step forward, and makes creating a better one, just that little bit harder. This is a must-have game for anyone who has a PS2.

There have been a lot of negative reviews of this game, and to be fair some of the complaints are true. There doesn't seem to be any significant progress on the graphics front from Frontline, and a couple of levels are slightly too linear, even for a Medal of Honor game.Don't, however, let these remarks put you off of purchasing what is a brilliant first-person shooter for the PS2. The two opening levels are the best that I have ever played, beaten only by the Omaha level on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and all of the levels are easy to play and very involving from the start. The weapons are fantastic as usual, and the research that the developers did when creating the game shows in the levels and the unlockable interviews that you can collect. There is a good mixture of stealth and weapons blazing action that will satisfy all gamers. Unlockable items that open up new level access, and storyboards and interviews all help the longevity of this great game. Even the A.I, never a strong point in console games, is better than usual, with the men following you helping you in fights and acting quite intelligently on their own. This game has some decent levels, loads of gunfights, good A.I and some of the best set-pieces I have ever played on a console, so please pick up what is a brilliant addition to the MoH series and a worthy game for any FPS fan to have.

This is a great game. Set in WWII it follows the life of US Marine Joe Griffin. Really realistic graphics, fps as well which is easy to use. You also feel like you are in a war cos at the end you get letters from your sister etc. Emotional in some places those of you that are into crazy pointless shoot 'em ups may not like this as there is more storyline to it.Missions are good, a bit annoying in some places where you have to work out what the objectives are and you are running around aimlessly but none of the missions are impossible to do.Quite short, only 8 missions plus 1 tutorial, but the missions are quite long and there is some variation, although towards the end I got a bit bored of the jungle settings for most missions.Multiplayer is good, not many game types (only free-for-all and team deathmatch) multitap adaptable too so you can play with all your mates as well. Japs vs. Allies which is good fun, but for some reason they made the Japonese better.I recommend this to the less hardcore gamers who want a bit of fun, but also the guys that get into it as you can do harder levels. But COD nerds beware - there is more depth in this than running around shooting people for no point at all.

I laugh in the face of the other review posted here. Medal of Honour has re-established my love of the PS2 and is a big improvement it's predecessor MOH frontline. I was gutted when multiplayer was not included on frontline as we used to while away the small hours in our student hours to much screaming and whoops of delight at shooting each other's faces off - awesome!Admittedly, the co-op play is relatively simple but nonetheless a very good laugh. The single player campaign is nice, lots of new ideas and has historical significance to WWII events for the anorak out there (I lived with a BA War studies student), and is of a challenging level of difficulty. If you want amazing graphics I'm told by an annoying work colleague to buy the PC version "which is far superior,ha ha ha!".This game is great value for money with all the options of single and two player campaigns, multiplayer mayhem and the option of online gameplay.Don't be a fool, get it in now!

i played this at a games con today and to be honest it wasnt any sort of great departure from the last incarnation on ps2 but lets face it the machines 3 years old and its not going to get better. The graphics have been tweaked, the AI is still abit... funny, either the enemy is blind or can spot you hidden in a bush 1000 yards away, but this is MOH and this time its promising to be online capable. Pearl habour is an impressive sequence which much like omaha in frontline borrows massively from its film cousin and manages to create an impact that the following levels have difficulty maintaining. still you will be massively entertained when those little guys start charging you with bayonettes and the P.C.rule book goes out the window.banzaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii people.....its fun.

After getting over the initial hurdles of getting a faulty copy from Amazon, then waiting for the replacement, then getting very frustrated with the controls until I changed them and got used to them, I soon settled in and found this game highly addictive like it's predecessors. Sneaking through the jungle, with all it's sound effects, knowing a mad Jap would coming running at you any second! Kept me up til 3-30am one night, just so glad I work flexi-time! 2 main critcisms - it seems too short, and it's become more Americanised than before. Oh, and is Bromley supposed to be English or Australian? Sounds like the worst cockney accent of all time! But then the Yanks never could distinguish between a cockney and aussie accent!Still, quality game, recommended.

First off, I'm a great fan of the MOH series having bought all 4 for the ps 1+2. The best aspect of the game is the multi-player. Get a big enough tv and 4 mates round and say goodbye to your weekends. However, this is at the expense of the single player which amasses to a total of 8 or 9 levels. They are good and the pearl harbour level is only slightly eclipsed by the D-day landings of Frontline. The cutbacks extend to the graphics in the FMV sequences which are worthy of the Sega Mega-Drive, and the loading times provide adequate time to get a cup of tea. But during the levels, the gameplay is great and now you can chuck grenades easier by use of the L2 button.Great game for mates but offersabout 4 hours single player.

Upon playing the game for the first time today the first couple of missions were brilliant. You start off at Pearl Harbour in the Amazon ship, then you have to shoot down planes on a turret from a moving boat. The graphics are superb though if your a gore fan, go somewhere else. The missions are great but sometimes are very lengthy, and a map in game play would help you find locations. It took me over an hour to get far in a single mission, and at the end when i had nearly completed it i was in the back of a truck being shot by a tank and i had ony a Tomason to defend myself! If only there was a Save under the Start menu. A Great game not to be missed, but im not sure if ill be spending my £40 on it,i just rent them!

Having played every single MOH to date and completin them (PC versions being the easiest to complete)Rising Sun is much more difficult. I've only owned it for three days and already I'm stuck and I'm embarresed to say it is only the 2nd level in the footbal stadium! :$. The graphics are better than frontline but the storyline is slightly different. Unlike playin the part of a soldier with experience, u play the part of a new recruit, being able to read your mail from home (which is unlocked as u progress through the game)and some of the charecters who interact with you have names and looked different)Over all this is an excellent game from the brilliant men who gave us the rest, well worth the money!!

Brill Game!If you enjoy Co-Operative gameplay , like with your mates or family then this is the game for you , and if you a hard game player then , although this game is pretty hard and puzzling , you could complete this game in 6 hrs (me and my mate did 2day) dont listen to all the mumbo jumbo about no AI , theres loads of AI , u pop up after crouching there onto you!Plus i believe this game is better than all the previous versions of MOH , the graphics are more enhanced , like the people etc , and the gameplay is alot more fun. No stupid jet after you complete the game , lol , like frontline!and to top it all off , Steven Speilberg helped to make it! what more could you want! BUY IT!

At last a MOH where you fight in conpletely different surroundings. If the A.I. is a bit more crafly like in the PC game MOH:AA then maybe this game can break it's mould and become something even more spectacular like it's original.I would hope the graphics to be involving, however i'm sure they will be as spectacular as ever. The biggest problem with it PS2 predecessor is that it's levels are quite linear and so the game is shortened. There is simply no enough space to explore. Also the game does seem to point out exactly what to do, where to go and how to it. Hopefully these niggles will be ironed out. I am expecting a world-class game, and not a copy of the other MOH's set in Japan.

I am a huge fan of MOH in fact its one of the only few games i would buy for my PS2. The opening scenes and gameplay are excellent but from there on i am not too sure. The controls are fiddly and seem to have changed configuration again and if you die during a mission the return to your last save just seems too tiresome and to be honest i just switched off and made a cup of tea. However the multiplayer options are excellent and i would rate the game more for that than the one player missions in general. Having played MOH on the pc and online i dont think anything on the PS2 will ever really come to match. Overall its worth buying and has enough gameplay options to keep you entertained.

I was so looking forward to this game as I loved Frontline and I had just finished Wolfenstein (both definite 5*). My initial impressions were good and after a few nights gaming (when my wife was working late) I had finished it. I was really disappointed that it was so easy. Also I thought the end mission was pretty weak story wise. I was positive there must be a secret level to go and rescue your brother (maybe that will be in the next game). I do like the little bonus items like the machete and entrenching tool as this has made me play it again to find all of the secrets but I would rather have had a better story line. Overall a good game but not the amazing one I was expecting!

17.7.2006

This MOH game gives you everything you expect from one. Its got decent levels (The first and second ones set at pearl harbour are great!), quite a lot of game modes like Co-op story mode which is a cool adddition plus online and offline multiplayer death match modes. The only let down it has is how long it is. Nine levels?! They are all good ones and twice the fun in co-op mode but even with that it feels like half a game. Its as if its not actually finished. It is still a really decent addition to the series but only for Hardcore MOH fans.
