I used to really be into games, but I've been bored of recently released games, and i hardly play any for a great deal of time. But I've been playing manhunt and I've really enjoyed it. I don't understand the criticism it has recieved. The AI is the best I have seen, with the enemies genuinely looking for you and not just knowing-exactly-where-you-are-even-though-they-didn't-see-where-you-went which is what normally happens. There is a great deal of tension because you are likely to get beaten down if you actually confront the enemy in hand to hand combat. I think the level design is awesome; it is linear but each area is split up into sections which tend to contain a number of buildings and other means of cover. In each section there are a bunch of enemies which you must defeat, but it's not just straight forwardly obvious how to go about it, you have to use the available surroundings in the way that you think is best, not everyone will do the same thing. Also, the bad guys don't just walk round in circles on a set path, it is more organic, so you can't just sit around knowing that they will walk your way, you have to fool them. The controls are kind of like GTA in some ways, but far better with the inclusion of side-stepping, shimmying, quick turn around, reload, hide-and-pop-out thingy, a visual bar of how out of breath you are (which you can't cheat by rapidly pressing the run button) and some other things which i probably forgot. It's easier to control than GTA, and the controls rarely annoy me.Basically, you spend your time killing the enemy who vastly out-number you by using stealth to hide and then creep up on them. They can hear your footsteps if you are moving swiftly, so you have to walk slowly which adds to the tension because you need to get to them before they turn and see you, you can only execute them if they are unaware of you. I don't think it gets repetitive. It is very satisfying to kill the enemies becauseA) the AI makes it seem like you are out-thinking them rather than just taking them out without having to apply thought to it,B) they are constantly giving you verbal abuse which really makes you want to break them downC) it can often take a while to distract them and it's a bigger pay off once they have taken up your valuable time andD) you really get to show them what time it is with the executions; you've spent a few minutes separating one scabby little henchman from the pack and he's half way through saying 'I'm gunna find ya and,' when you cut his spine in half. It's cool because once you execute them, there's no way you can lose to them, it underlines how dead they are going to be once you get hold of them. If there weren't executions, you'd creep up on them but wouldn't be guaranteed to be able to show them who's boss straight out.It is a long game, and i can see myself playing it through at least another two times. There are a couple of things I think could be improved, firstly you should be able to move around in first person which would make gun battles simpler and would allow you be more precise when looking around to see if you are safe. Secondly, the shadows you hide in should really be black and when you step into them you should appear black as well, it looks kind of daft when the enemy is looking right at you and it seems like they would really see you. Thirdly, I think the executions should be more varied, some weapons share executions and some weapons have 3 similar executions allocated to them, which seems like a wasted opportunity for more intensity. Fourthly there should be gun executions, and there shouldn't be gun-butting; it sometimes frustrates me when i have a shotgun and all i want to do (obviously) is shoot someone's head off, but if they are too close, you butt them with it instead of shooting, which does hardly any damage and results in you taking heavy damage yourself from the enemy. Lastly, i think the whole game would benefit from some polishing to make it a little less glitchy and stuff, this isn't very slick really, although it is classier to look at than the GTA's. I thought this game was going to be a run around frantic free roaming thing like GTA and state of emergency, but it isn't, it is set out in levels with some great areas for you to use stealth and intelligent tactics. It's one of the best games I've played in a while, very very satisfying. It's not mortal kombat, there is more to it than just laughing at painful death.

I suppose that Manhunt is one of those games that is going to turn off a lot of people. Anything that is so violent, so foul-mouthed, so down right seedy and exploitative in tone is bound to shock some. There have also been complaints that Manhunt isn’t exceptional, that Rockstar North haven’t delivered another GTA3, a game so different, such a step forward and so defining for our times that it cannot easily be superceded. So the prognosis isn’t really that great for Manhunt. Even after I got it home I was half expecting to hate it. But I didn’t. I loved every filthy, black, tension drenched moment.Don’t get me wrong, I don’t endorse mindless acts of violence, but when a game is this immersive and trys this hard to suck you in then its worth just giving up and going with the flow. From the very outset this game oozes quality. Dark industrial noises which never really become music will be very familiar to those of you who watched and enjoyed the recent flick My Little Eye (a film which dealt with very similar subject matter) and sinister cut scenes hint at elements of plot and location. By the time I selected New Game, set up the TV correctly and turned off the lights Manhunt was already winning me over.So whats the actual game chasis like? Well, think Splinter Cell with elements of Max Payne. I think that’s the best way of putting it. Splinter Cell itself is a very tough act to follow, itself a title which oozed class from every pore but Manhunt fares well. It may not have the edge with gadgets but the control system is so excellently intuitive that manipulating your character in amongst the landscape and completing the games tasks takes on more gravity and excitement than any amount of gas-releasing distraction cameras and snazzy multi-purpose rifles could! And speaking of completing tasks, that really is the glue that holds the game together. You are guided around the levels by an unseen nemesis, a snuff film director on grand scale who has not only landed your character in this situation but also claims to hold the key to his survival. The missions are issued to you verbally as you progress and are refreshingly varied. Although the basic tenet of the game is brutal, visceral murder the director will place certain conditions on your activates. For example you may have to off your hunters in a particular way, use a certain weapon or protect the lives of other innocent non-player characters in order to progress. The combat itself is refreshingly varied, swooping from brutal executions with various blunt instruments to Max Payne style shoot-outs to crushing would be assassins between an old fridge and a huge crane-mounted magnet (really)! In this post MGS2 world in which we live stealth games absolutely must have good AI. Without plausible enemies this wonderful cinematic presentation and varied methods of offing your (extremely) unpleasant adversaries would mean nothing. For me the AI is the area where Manhunt truly stands out from the crowd. Enemies react in a genuinely unpredictable fashion and when stalking them trying to anticipate which way they will go is very unnerving. I was into the Mouth of Madness level (near the end of the game) before I was able to recognise any kind of pattern or repetitive nature in the way my adversaries reacted to me. Coupled with the excellent AI is GTA style random chatter amongst the bad guys. The 18 rated nature of this chit-chat really builds the feeling that you are being hunted down by some seriously low-life nutters. On the down side some people have complained that the games locations are slightly repetitive. While this may be true in essence the games narrative is so strong that for me this was never really apparent. As I can’t think of anything else bad to say about this game, I’m going to give it the coveted full marks and urge anyone reading this to forget the hype, forget the dubious opinions of the media and give this profoundly adult title a spin.

Rockstar, publishers of the excellent and hugely popular Grand Theft Auto series, have returned, with another controversial title. Grand Theft Auto provoked reactions from parent groups about its content, and this game will definitely provoke some more.Basically, the plot of this game is that you play a criminal by the name of Cash, who had been sentenced to death for his crimes. After a wait on death row, he was taken to be killed, but unbeknown to him and the entire world, his lethal injection had be changed with a strong sedative, by the mysterious Director.Cash wakes up sometime later, surprised to be alive, and with everyone thinking he's dead. However, it isn't all good news,as he finds himself in a strange place - a place called Carcer City. The city is littered with thousands of CCTV cameras, controlled by the Director, and the city is also home to many dangerous and violent gangs, each with their own unique style and weapons. The Director, in return for saving your life, has decided to use you for his own perverse pleasure, by forcing you to star in his very own movies, where the gangs stalk Cash, and Cash is forced to either kill everyone, or die himself. Whatever the final outcome, a death is guaranteed, and this pleases The Director, since his film will sell well.In order to survive, Cash must use stealth, and a plethora of unique weapons, such as plastic bags, glass shards (which you can create by smashing glass windows), and a whole host of extremely violent weapons such as chainsaws, meat cleavers, scythes, and a range of guns. Cash must please the Director by killing gang members in as brutal way as possible (each weapon can be used to kill people in 2-3 ways, ranging between Level 1 kills and Level 3 kills. Level 3 is exteme violent, whereas Level 1 is fairly violent). Only by pleasing the Director will Cash ever leave this city. The kills in the game are breath taking in their detail and violence. For example, using certain weapons, you can actually rip off the head of a gang member, and throw the severed head to create noise, which attracts other gang members, allowing you to isolate them, making kills easier. You also need to dump the dead bodies in the shadows, so that the alive gang members dont get suspicious. All in all, this game is a masterpiece in making you feel extremely tense, just like you would if it was a real situation. You cannot fail to be shocked by the kills, and even my hardened 18 year old brother winced as the hammer decapitated a gang member. The game also features some unique touches, such as the ability to connect a USB headset, and whisper into it to attract the attention of gang members, so that isolating them and killing them becomes easier, and also it adds a sense of realism. Imagine sneaking round a corner, creeping up behind a heavily armed gang member, with you only armed with a plastic bag, and accidentally saying something. The USB headset will make the gang member hear this, and turn round, leading to your untimely demise. Excellent realism. As with all Rockstar games, it is easy to control, although some of the more technical aspects of the hand to hand combat sections take time to master, although this is not neccessarily a bad thing. Easy to pick up and play, and also easy to become unhealthily engrossed in, this game now sits as #1 on my pile. The weapons become increasingly more powerful (with the kills becoming increasingly awe-inspiringly graphic) as the game progresses, and the levels are nicely split between stealth and silent kills with quiet weapons, and all out gun blazing warfare.Graphically, its stunning, and I honestly cannot think of a single criticism. All in all, a hugely enjoyable game, and a masterpiece that everyone (over 18) should play.

first of i would like to say, all of you who think this game is poor need their heads checking, this game is amazing, the graphics come in the same style of gta3 and vice city, but a little more grittier, and realistic, if you've played silent hill 2 or 3 then you will recognise the noise effect that is layered over the screen, this adds to the messed up atmosphere of the game. the characters are smoth as silk with animations being flawless, so much so that the stealth kills are animated almost photo realistically. the environments are suitiably drab and dark, but where most games whould stumble if this was the case, in manhunt, it is a great acheivement, items in the environment move when touched such as trash cans and trollies.the controles are very intuative and easy to pick up (many people have complained about the controles but they obviously aren't very good gamers) you have a run button a lock on button and strafing buttons, these are the main commands in the game , with the execution button of course.now this is were the game elevates itself from being a simple splinter cell rip off, the extreme graphic violence make this game the most brutle on the market, this does not mean that it is selling on these points. at heart the game is a very in depth and rewarding stealth game (unlike splinter cell) were you are rewarded stars on how well you did (not unlike your tv guide review system) the game is basically a snuff movie played out by YOU and you get a kind of "reader review" like critics give to movies, only this is very, very illegal.the premis of the game as stated above is simple yet highly original, your execution was faked, and you are put into a sort of "running man" game show were you are forced to make a snuff movie (a movie containing death of a REAL person) by a man only known as "the director", this premis is unlike any other game out there, it is not terorists, it is not not save the princes, it is pure adult story telling.your main aly and your main enemy is sound, you can use sound to lure enemys, but anything other than slow walking will emit a sound that WILL attract bad guys, this makes the game very hard (which is a good thing) this forces you to be stealthy, you cannot go in "guns blazing" as you WILL be killed. one-on-one is fine, but more than one and your screwed, they will be relentless at hunting you down and will chase you through the whole of the level(good AI) which brings me onto my last pointthere are 20 levels in the game, even though this does not sound like much it is, the levels are large and detailed and become increasingly varied as you progress, many people including myself would say it would take 20+ hours to complete first time round, but to get all 5 stars it would take much longer, i am on 50+ hours already. there are 4 unlockable stages to explore also which will add to the game, and many unlockables such as gang descriptions and mask variations.all in all the game is great, it has elements of metal gear, splinter cell and gta, but is unique enough to be its own game, later on in the game you become the one who choses what to do, (guns or stealth) unlike splinter cell were you are forced to use stealth most of the time. the game has a unique story that has never been done before. with great graphics, great gameplay, and an amazing story this a game NOT to be missed, buy it NOW, you will not be dissapointed.oh and if your still thinking about it, the game has a high chance of being banned so if you want a piece of gaming history, get hold of this game NOWp.s. sorry for the spelling, i've never been that good at it....

It took me a LONG time before I managed to get my hands on Manhunt (combination of huge workload, no money, and FFX-2), but when I did, I instantly forgave Rockstar for the disappointments that were GTA3 and, notably, State of Emergency. For a start, this game isn't just hype and controversy-baiting to gain sales, before people realise how shallow the game is. No, for a change they created an involving game that keeps you coming back for more, trying to improve yourself, and the all important thing about video games; the "five more minutes" factor. Not only does the plot keep you guessing, but the way the levels are set up makes you wonder what could happen next (since there are a few well-orchestrated shocks and surprises in the game),as well as get into the mindset of the character. After all, after ten minutes of repeated dying, you may well realise that dashing in with flailing fist won't do you many favours, so a Plan B is called for. And this is where the controversy comes from - the levels of executions, ranging from Regular, to Strong, to Violent. Of course, it's the Violent ones that get you more goodies, as they aid to your performance and what you unlock as a result. I, personally, also found it quite worrying at the point where I was looking for a new weapon, just to see the effects that would have on the next guy looking the wrong way.So, yes, it's violent, and the tone is pretty sick with all the director's comments before and after a kill (I missed something by not having the headset), yet at the same time there's a few of Rockstar's trademark slices of humour. The first victim, who is mere practice for executions, has a note scribbled on the wall next to him telling you to kill him (well, I can't quote EXACTLY what it says - family website and all), and another early victim has "First one to go" on his T-shirt. So despite being grim, it has a few macabre chuckles along the way. However, the ultimate aspect that sells the game isn't offing victims in imaginative ways, or a few pieces of gallows humour, but the atmosphere. Yes, that. Not since the initial Resident Evil has there been a game that shreds the nerves as you stalk around the areas, avoiding detection, and moving in for the kill - with some ominous music to add to the effect. Yes, it may seem like Metal Gear Solid in this respect, but the tone makes it all the more nerve shredding. After all, how many rooms in MGS has charred human corpses hanging from the ceiling? Lastly, the enemy AI has little details that work with the tone - if there's one dispatched enemy on the ground, and another runs in to check on the noise, they will stop and react to this, rather than blissfully walk on regardless, like so many other games. Also, they have character traits each of their own, be it their conversations, muttering to themselves, and likelihood of standing still like a teen slasher victim as you prepare to unleash a baseball bat shot to the head.Yet with all the atmospherics, game dynamics, and everything else, it still feels if something is missing. It isn't repetition, as there is always a variety to the missions, and it isn't passing its longevity. However, there is something there that doesn't quite elevate it to the pantheon of Must Buy PS2 games. But for all I know, it could be my conscience telling me not to enjoy the game too much...

If you are a fan of the horror film genre, or more grisly thrillers such as "Silence of the Lambs", "8mm" or "Seven" then this game is definately for you. I would also recommend this game as a great example of the "stealth" genre, which is very fashionable with games developers at the moment. No doubt purists of this type of game will disagree with that notion, but I would say this game offers a far more compelling, gamer friendly experience than the like of Splinter Cell. The game has a lot more in common with games such as "Metal Gear Solid" than "Vice City" so GTA fans be warned now! Manhunt will sell by the truck load regardless, due to all the hype and media frenzy that has ensued, but here goes anyway. On the positive side the presentation and atmosphere of the game is fantastic. A typical Rockstar production, everything from the instruction booklet to the in game music is within the context of the game. Expectations were high then when I began to play. The dark portrayal of the protagonists surroundings do a wonderful job in evoking the sinister feel of a deserted, abandoned urban setting. The music is also fantastic, eerie synths typical of late 70s, early 80s horror movies - the developers really did their homework and it has paid off. The voice acting, while somewhat crude, also does a great job of convincing you that you are being stalked by some inbred, machete wielding lunatic. Bundle all these together and you have a wonderfully atmospheric package; the first few levels are especially tense as you get to grips with the hunters' AI, though as you learn patterns of their behaviour the game can become a little repetative in the later levels. And that, really is the main negative aspect of the game. Most of the levels are very similar and despite some interesting sub tasks what it boils down to is killing all the hunters and making your way through the level. Having said that I was compelled to play the game from start to finish, mainly to get the whole experience. What I found to be particularly compelling about the game was that game mechanics themselves were very well implemented. When I got caught by the hunters I knew it was my own fault, rather than feeling angry or cheated by the game. Sure, there were a couple of occasions when the save points seemed a little too far apart to be fair, but I always knew that patience would pay off in the end and I would get my reward. The controls are also very responsive and well done. Face-to-face fighting with the hunters is a bit limited, but I believe this was a conscious design decision as the game actively attempts to disuade you from going toe to toe with the bad guys. Finally, be warned this game *is* tough. Personally I see that as a positive aspect, it is a pleasure to play, there was many a night I was plugging away to the small hours trying to finish a level. Others, however, might find the difficulty off putting. On the whole, highly recommended - ignore the negative press coverage (from both the tabloids and some games magazines, probably upset by rockstar's courting of controversy), ignore the hype, and what you have here is a finely crafted, unsettling game, and an important step in the industry for compelling "adult" titles.

Manhunt, a game like no other, has probably some of the most disturbing kills in the history of videogames; it's also probably the kind of game most of us have been waiting for. But even though the game was made by the same producers and carries the same age rating this s NOT GTA. The linear ness of each level is deliberately there: doing what the director says will keep you alive. The story is fairly solid, but mysterious. More and more becomes revealed the more you play. You play James Earl Cash, a convict on death row whose execution was faked by the "director", a one Lionel Starkweather. The only way to have a small hope of winning is to do what he says and execute all the hunters in the most gruesome ways possible. But the reason I gave it 4 stars was probably the game play. Sure it is one great game in all but the game play does become repetitive i.e., come in to a new place, kill some people, find new objective, kill more people to find item that will complete objective, rinse and repeat. Fair enough, the objectives are all different (hell there's even a bit where you control a crane!) but there should have been more. The graphics are good; you can recognize the GTA style characters and character movement. The controls are good and simple (you only need to hold down one button to pull off an execution). As this game is a stealth game, it needs a decent camera for it to work and fortunately enough, it does. You feel propa solid snake, backed up against walls, scoping the place for hunters. The graphics are good (a very creepy, dark atmosphere is created) but then again Manhunt wasn't meant to be pretty. The executions are great (it's shocking what you can do with a plastic bag!). There are three types of kill, normal, gruesome and downright disturbing. The most gruesome kills you do please the director and cause you're rating at the end of the level to go higher. There are over 20 weapons but unfortunately you can't do gruesome kills with firearms but the way you kill a hunter with a gun is still quite graphic. There are 5 packs of hunters (and a secret pack). The hunters are all excellent with good AI and different patrol routes, each talking to themselves or if they are the Smileys, gibbering and screaming to themselves. They all have great but disturbing costumes. Unluckily for you it aint Halloween. This is a terrifying game. The constant dark atmosphere, the psychotic hunters, who if spot you, come screaming toward you with a meat cleaver! This game always has nasty surprises for you, in one room, you come across some strung up, dead fat men. In the first few levels, you will be waiting in the shadows for minutes on end, your hands clutching the sweat drenched pad, not sure if there are a pack of hunters just waiting for you...This is probably the only game actually worth the 18 rating, it will seriously frighten and disturb you but it will always have you coming back for more. So if you want one hell of a disturbing and scary experience buy Manhunt...if you dare.

The storyYou play as James Earl Cash, a mass murderer sentanced to death. On his way to excecuted he falls unconsious. He wakes up to a strange voice talking to him via a earpiece. This Man calls himself the "Director", his aim is to make the goriest Reality show ever, and your the star. He's bribed the authorities and bought a deserted city, then he's put hunter in the city to, If you cant guess, hunt you down. The direstor isn't your enemy though, he's your only hope of surviving the night. He watchs you via security cameras and guides you to your next kill. The nastier the kill the more he likes it.The GameplayThis aspect of the game works extremely well thanks to the superb graphics and sound, which create an intense level of tension, so that when you mistakenly knock into an abandoned shopping trolley and alert a hunter, it's really quite terrifying. The combat is very well tweaked, the main emphasis is to sneak up on your victim and do a silent slash, but some times hand to hand combat is unavoidable. When you do have to face a foe like this it gets quite messy, the only thing you really can do keep hitting the attack button or run like a woman, i'd suggest the latter. In gameplay terms the only real fault with Manhunt is a lack of variety, unlike GTA you only really have two aspects to this game - stealth and shooting, both a joy to do but some sniping or driving levels would of been appreciated. This game is definately not for anyone who doesn't like blood, you're hacking off heads every 5minutes, but it adds so much to the game. In other games killing isn't a major thing you aim, you fire and he's dead! But in Manhunt you really get a sense of what it would be like to kill someone, with a gruesome close up shot of the final kill. The Daily Mail is gonna hate this but aslong as you know whats real and whats not this game wont affect you.The GraphicsNothing about this game is pretty, The walls are covered in blood, Sweat, and various other parts of the body. This makes the game very atmospheric. It does look like GTA but thats not nessarcarly a bad thing. The game goes through one night so Rockstar have been able to spend all of their time on Lighting and shadow effects. It's very helpful to be able to pick out shadows to hide in easily. The LifespanI played this on normal difficulty and completed it in under 5 days. Thats just going through the game doing the minimal, if you want to unlock cheats, extra videos and other cool stuff you'll have to put alot of effort in. To earn this stuff you have to complete levels with a five star rating - killing all the hunters, doing it quickly, and doing it in a stylish way.OverallThis game takes gaming a step further, By using atmospheric surroundings, gore, and a good, original story Rockstar have made another must have. If you like stealth, Action, and blood this is for you!94%

This game is probably one of the best adventure/horror games that I have come across. When you first begin, it's a little difficult and if you're a decent person, you may not want to suffocate your foes with plastic bags - I know I didn't! But to progress in the game you have to do this, as there are only a limited number of weapons available to you in each level. As you progress through the game, you will learn just how valuable a health booster (in the form of pain killers) or a handgun can be. This game really forces you to make better usage of limited resources. The levels become more intense as the game progresses (as you'd expect). The final level in the game is really difficult and it really got my pulse sky high (Rockstar are very good at that with their games). There are two levels of difficulty - fetish and hardcore - and I have completed the game on both.Just like Gran Turismo was a good game to improve your driving skills in other games, so Manhunt is a good game to help you improve your first-person hunting skills in computer games. The skills that I acquired in this game really helped me later with games like the Matrix and San Andreas.Be sure to check out GTA San Andreas after this. You will notice that many features in Manhunt actually crop up in San Andreas. I recon Rockstar brought out Manhunt as an experiment to see how far they could go in terms of violence before they brought out GTA San Andreas. Afterall, if they'd have brought out San Andreas with the same level of violence as Manhunt, it would have been a big flop!Whilst Manhunt is a great game, I don't think it is for children. The game does have an 18 certificate on it and rightly so. I personally don't believe that Manhunt caused that lad to kill like the media suggests. I think he was just prone to that sort of thing anyway. People just look for scapegoats and unfortunately, Manhunt was just convenient as it was full of violence and that lad just so happened to play on it.If you are 18 or over, and enjoy games like the Matrix and the GTA series, you should consider buying this game. There are hours of fun here and many skills available that can be used in other computer games. Before I played this game, I constantly needed cheats to help me through shoot 'em ups. I remember using God-like cheats when playing Doom on the PC and I could never complete the Matrix - until I played and completed Manhunt. I have now achieved a 100% completion rating in GTA San Andreas and I know I couldn't have done that without playing on Manhunt first. I am now looking forward to more fun in games like Killzone and Silent Hill 4.

Manhunt has to be one of the most violent games i've ever played. Saying that, i don't condone it, im positive there are extremely violent movies etc out there. The game is mainly a stealth-em-up, as you have to sneak up on hunters to perform executions. However you can kill said hunters the old fashioned way with your fists, but it's not recommended as they usually call for backup and swarm you.The character models are taken from Grand Theft Auto 3 & VC and given an upgrade, as the graphics are crisp, and there is little if any slowdown throughout the game. The Voice acting is good, albeit coarse and the different tones in the hunters voices allow for easy indication of a hunters mood, which is a nice touch. The executions are performed by holding x or square and the longer you hold the button the more violent the execution is. The weapons available allow for a wide variety of executions however, for example, there are different types of baseball bats such as metal and wooden which both perform the same executions. It would have been nice to have more variety such as metal bats doing more violent executions than a regular bat. There is plenty of blood and gore and it definately earns its 18 rating as one would expect. When an execution is performed a cctv style camera shows the execution from different angles which is very well done and gruesome. The story puts you in the shoes of a man called James Cash who was supposed to be executed, but he was given a second chance for entertainment of a man called Starkweather who wants Cash to kill Hunters to please the "audience". The location of the game is Carcer city, which was referenced in GTA3. Carcer city is a dark run down city where anything goes and the city itself is very well presentated with smooth textured environments. The hunters are the people that are after Cash due to the large reward placed on his head by Starkweather. The Hunters are very intelligent, for example, if you make a noise such as knocking a trash can about which would usually cause you to be found, the Hunters wouldn't charge at you straight away, but wait in the shadows until you came close enough for them to attack. If you try to run away they will give chase and if you manage to lose them they will search for you until they either find you or get bored. In conclusion i would recommend this to people who like the GTA series, although be warned, It isn't for people of a nervous disposition or people who don't like excess blood and gore. All in all a well presentated game!®€¥»PîççØLØçØ«¥€®

Now I consider myself to be fairly atuned to violence in the media at large, but every so often something comes along that changes my perception entirely. Manhunt didn't!Immediately for those of you thinking i'm being negative then check out my star rating. Manhunt is one of the most enjoyable slices (and dices, and cuts and hacks and slashes) of game entertainment i have played in a good long while, and not since Grand Theft Auto has there been a game to cause controversy like this. The basic premise comes across like the sordid lovechild of the films the warriors and the running man, only much more brutal. You play James Earl Cash, a man who is brought back from his 'execution'to make snuff films for a mysterious director. He must move through the streets, eliminating those in his way with enough gusto and gore to please his omnipresent viewer. It's kill or be killed, and my god does this boy kill.Whilst you can kill the 'hunters' (various gangs that roam the streets hired by the director for you to play with) in a straight fight with any of the weapons, what the director really wants is executions. These are performed by stealthily positioning yourself behind an unaware hunter and then it jumps to a cut scene of you doing something ranging from the marginally nasty (quick killing), to just plain sadistic (painful and gory slow death). Yep, this one ain't for the kiddies. But before you start to think that this is some mindless bloodbath where you run around with chainsaw buzzing, it should be pointed out that the game actually plays like the twisted brother of metal gear solid. Stealth is the issue of the day here. Go storming in and the hunters will band together and carve you up, distract and lure them with noise and you can take them down silently (well, screaming and gurgling usually).Unfortunately, like metal gear solid, the game falls down here on account of it's not quite got enough variety. There are enough weapons to keep any psycho happy and different gangs, but essentially this plays the same all of the way through. What keeps you playing is the atmosphere of the game, silent sneaking erupting into brutal fights and shootouts if you're discovered, it's all very good fun. It's best if you're thinking of purchasing this to have a sense of humour about violence because it really gets pretty graphic, but for those of you with the stomach i can heartily recommend this original take on the stealth genre which flies fully in the face of political correctnessLights, Camera, Action ...

After reading the reviews on amazon i thought i had best rent the game before buying it seen as though it has up and down reviews. Well i rented the game today and the first thing that popped into my head was wow!The graphics are amazing and the city you are in is amazing it gives you a real sense of fear much like the atmosphere in the film seven you will know what i mean if you had seen it. The story to the film is something i have always wanted in a game being in an urban city full of gangs and having to fight it out. I was hoping freedom fighters was going to help me in that department but it didnt do much for me. Manhunt exceeds on everything compared to freedom fighters. The game plays alot like GTA the controls are similar the weapons you pick up and the violence this is way more violent though compared to GTA for example when you sneak up on someone the longer you hold the button down the more powerful the attacks so what i did was get my big baseball bat out and waited till it got to full power and unleased the FURY!what happend was my character starting to choke the man and then when he was joked to death smashed his head completely of his shoulders and the blood went everywere amazing. There is a wide range of weapons from guns to smashed glass and throwing weapons used to destract the enemies. At one point i found myself carrying several weapons i had a big baseball bat strapped to my back a brick im my back pocket a small baseball bat in my side pocket and a crowbar im my hand!oh and a plastic bag in my other pocket. What is really intresting about the game is the stealth moves you have to do because if you take a gang head on you will die believe me i have tried many times. So it is best to take them out one at a time using useful moves such as knocking on walls, kicking trashcans over, throwing bottles or bricks, hiding in the shadows, laying up against the walls or trucks etc. I will tell you one thing dont be expecting GTA in were you can just run about and do what you want you have set missons and have to complete them to progress. Thats pobably the games only down fall. If you do not have GTA-vice city youre missing out buy it now and buy this as well. Rockstar produce brilliant games such as this thats why i cant wait for GTA 5. Overall the game is brilliant buy it anybody who has critcised this is a loser or maybe a politican if you know what i mean. Buy it!

I admit i am an xbox gamer myself after having over a year playing the PS2 and getting annoyed that the graphics were never as good as my brothers xbox, so i bought one myself but every now and again i just have to buy a game for the PS2. The usual reason for this is that the game in question is not available on the xbox and this is the case for a little shocker called "manhunt".After hearing a friend talking about this game i had to buy it and i am so glad i did. Now those of you out there with a weak stomach should really not be playing this game. It is an excruciatingly violent game which was obviously created so rockstar could show off about how far they could push the boundaries of the censors, but maybe it is a bit more than that. The basic story is fairly original, you play as james cash, a convicted serial killer on deathrow, waiting to be executed, but after the apparent lethal drug is injected into your veins you wake up realising it was just a sedative, however you now owe the man who saved your life a lot more than what he gave you and you will do what he says or you will die.The fun in this game is that the so called "director" tells you what to do, there is no escape and it's either kill or be killed. If you can stay alive long enough you may see freedom once again. This game is immensly gory, after seeing so much violence in games and on films i still held my stomach as i watched my character hold an enemy in a headlock and repeatedly stab the victim in the face with a glass shard. Yes you heard correctly. But is the violence really necessary, well yes, its great fun using all the different weapons and unleashing hell on your enemies.the gameplay is great, incorporating a large amount of stealth by actually hiding in the shadows (i suggest darkening your TV for optimum entertainment). The graphics are awesome which is what matters to me a lot especially after playing the xbox for so long now.Just buy this game, it's absolutely brilliant, and you'll be pleased to know that you will be fighting humans throughout the game rather than the sudden change to undead or ghost and goblins kind of s*** every other game feeds you.So turn off the lights, pick up the controller and keep a bowl near you at all times.

When I first got this game I thought it would be ridiculously violent. Harming anyone or anything in sight. But thats only half true. This isn't like other "immoral" games. In Manhunt the aim isn't to kill or maim innocent bystanders of your dirty deeds. It is to dispose of FICTIONAL gangs in a corrupt city. The members of these gangs are scum. Wastes of space. A disease of the city, and you are there to clean up this once prosporous area. Yes its violent. Yes its bloody, and in some places extreme, but it is clearly marked as an "18" certificate. These games are entertainment, not brainwashing. I've played through this game a number of times and I can honestly say that I do NOT get sudden urges to stick crowbars in peoples necks or suffocate people with plastic bags.Games like this show the people who buy them what it is like to be out of control. To do what they want when they want. So they show the consequences of their actions. Kill someone, you get jailed, beat to death or shot. Killing isn't always a necessity in Manhunt anyway. There are many areas where the player can use stealth and diversion to avoid gang members. I admit that killing is a major part of this game, but it isn't like we don't hear of/see pain and suffering in the news EVERY day. Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan. These are permitted for the public to view and some may say they are infinitly worse than computer games, because these are REAL people, not a bunch of polygons on a CD. Anyway, back to the game, the controls are easy to learn. Within 5 minutes you should be sneaking in and out of shadows like a pro. The graphics are dark and moody, adding to the atmosphere of this once great city. The storyline is easy to understand, as tougher, more violent gangs appear as you make your way through the unique and creative areas. This is a truly amazing game. If you're after something immersive, that makes you think laterally and strategically then this could be just for you. Be warned though, that this GAME contains scenes of explicit violence and gore and contains extremely harsh language. Still, anyone old enough to buy this should be mature enough to enjoy it without mixing fiction with real life.

I'm not the target demographic for this game. I'm a mother in her thirties, the kind of person expected to throw her hands up in disgust and call for this game to be banned at once... but on the other hand I'm a seasoned gamer who loves her PS2 and is very very picky about the games she spends her scarce cash upon. So was Manhunt worth my money, and more importantly, will it be worth yours?I love Manhunt. I love the concept (hey, it's kill or be killed, none of this slaughter is my fault... the concept gives me a little moral get-out clause that I'm happy to abuse). I love the simplicity in how one executes the victims. Others may find that too samey, and bemoan the lack of freedom (after all, you're essentially a prisoner and a puppet, you do as you are told). But I found my freedom in the planning. For example, a guard is watching a gate. Do I sit at a distance and tranquilise him, knowing i must then run in fast and finish him before he wakes? Or do I toss a brick nearby so he goes to investigate, thus moving to a suitable position for sneaking up upon? And when I kill him do I use the wire, silent but lost when it is used, or the baseball bat, the noise of which may attract unwelcome attention. Do I play safe and finish him off quickly, or do I hold my breath and attempt a gruesome kill, risking detection as I linger? What this game will demand of you is a little imagination. You must be able to put yourself right in that situation, feel the fear and the thrill. Without that empathy & that suspension of disbelief this game could become dull & workmanlike. With it, it's an experience quite unlike any I have known in 20 years of gaming. But don't be fooled into thinking that because your kids played GTA3 that this is a suitable game for them. This is NOT suitable for kids to play, and it is NOT suitable for you to play with kids looking over your shoulder. It is relentlessly grim, the swearing is extreme & constant, the violence really quite hideous. It won't harm you to play it, it won't create psychopths or sociopaths, but it could cause a few children's nightmares & responsible parenting starts here. It's a great game, but it's definitely an adults game.
