Well, there is one advantage to the weather turning for the UK Bank Holiday weekend ~ a good excuse to break open a brand-new LEGO set of around 360 pieces! It took a seasoned LEGO fan just under an hour to complete, presenting more of a challenge (than some sets at this recommended age) with a surprising number of fairly small pieces, testing dexterity (& patience), along with the sticking of the stickers on straight. The box opens as usual where indicated with finger pressure on the two arrows on the back.Inside are the usual numbered separate clear plastic bags ~ in this case 3 ~ along with 2 x instruction booklets + a set of stickers. The feature ‘Water Reactive Textile’, as advertised on the box,is further protected in a little cardboard box in Bag 1. Arguably, a little disappointing on its release, the 2.5 cm square piece of ragged edged fabric is more than it seems, if you add a touch of water!ooOoo~ LEGO® FRIENDS~ 41378 ~ DOLPHIN RESCUE MISSION~ AGE GUIDE (from the box) : 6 YEARS+~ 2019From the box:‘Models do not float.’ooOooExactly as pictured in the current stock images above and on the colourful cardboard box that measures around 37 cm (max) x 25.75 cm x 4.5 cm, the set contains two mini-figures, namely:STEPHANIE & KACEYThe set builds into a neat submarine rescue vehicle with hinged windscreen, ‘doors’ & moving foot stand and an underwater scooter ~ both with moving propellers, along with the remains of a shipwreck with hinged mast, and a mini island.Other main accessories include a dolphin, a baby dolphin, a bottle, a syringe, a treasure chest with gems and that extra surprise element – the 'MAGIC MAP.'Kacey’s ‘hair’ (wig) comes off for her to wear her helmet with working visor. Stephanie has the same asset but, being long-haired, she has a ponytail visible at the back, under her helmet, also with working visor. They both have flippers. There is the usual handful of spares at the end of the build.SIZE:The RESCUE SUBMARINE measures around 14.5 cm with the capsule open x 10.5 cm wide x 8 cm high. The UNDERWATER SCOOTER is around 6.5 cm wide with the grabs extended fully and the figure in situ. The SHIPWRECK measures around 19 cm max x 9.5 cm max x 12 cm high with the mast fully upright. The ISLAND is around 4.5 cm diameter and extends to 7 cm with the coral in situ and is around 5 cm high.[30 images attached ©LEGO® FRIENDS/2019]

With the announcement from Lego that by 2030 they intend to be making a selection, but not all, of their bricks / items from a more sustainable material, the irony of a "Dolphin Rescue" set being made of plastic won't be lost on many eco savy parents & children. However, with Lego being a timeless, multi functioning toy that can be just as at home in the hands of a 5yr to 95yr old, most Lego surely gets passed down or along to other children or families and as it can be reused, re modelled and re invented into new ideas only limited by a users imagination, Lego's corporate responsibility and the amazing versatility will hopefully see eco worries limited to the odd piece being flushed down atoilet or lost in a field as opposed to the plastic tat that many toys seem to be made from or packaged in.The set itself includes Kacey & Stephanie from the "Friends" series accompanied by a submersible, scuba sled, Pirate Ship / Galleon shipwreck and various sea creatures / crustaceans ( note that nothing floats & some pieces WILL go down a plug hole ! ) 360+ pieces in all along with excellent instructions that help with assembly of the surprisingly small ( for the age range ) pieces into the main models.Sitting in nicely with other new Friends sets in the 2019 Summer series, 41381 & 41380 & 41376 all have a water theme and would only add to the playability of this set - should the child or adult take to the range. All in all, good not great value - but then it's still a bright, interactive, non battery, well intended stimulating & good value toy .. just what a wet British summer needs. Enjoy

Lego bricks are a timeless toy that will last for generations and are pretty much guaranteed to fit bricks from the past and future. The Lego from my childhood is played with today by my children. This set is a little more complex as some from the basic range we have in our collection but not as complex as other larger sets. Despite being a little more complex, the instructions are clear step by step pages and can be followed easily enough. The instructions are literally brick by brick. Whilst Lego is a gender neutral toy, the colours and theme suggest that this set is designed to appeal more to girls than boys. There are lots of new shapes and designs in this set with a mixture of sea creatures. The main parts are the submersible and half a shipwreck with some coral and dive gear added into the mix.The bricks are in 3 bags with some stickers and 2 instruction manuals. As long as you follow the instructions then it is easy enough to build. Keep the instruction manual safe as without it you will need to go online for the guide. If you mix these bricks in with other sets, then you may really have a hard time finding what you need!Bottom line: It’s a good kit, will keep children occupied. It is an excellent way of developing the mind and will never go out of fashion. At the moment the kit is pre-launch, so I am not sure on price, so I can’t comment on value for money.

Lego always seems to be popular with kids of all ages and, although it is quite expensive to buy initially, it lasts very well offering a lot of fun for the price. This new dolphin rescue set (41378) is from the Lego “Friends” range and is suggested for boys and girls aged 6 plus – although the “mini-doll” product range, introduced in 2011, was designed primarily for girls. The main features are the rescue vehicle and sunken wreck along with Lego “Friends” Kacey and Stephanie, some dolphins and a good selection of underwater-themed Lego accessories. This is a bit of a specialist Lego product, so is best chosen for a child who is familiar with Lego's “Friends” world, but the Lego pieces supplied here are compatible with all other Lego sets. Currently unavailable from Amazon with no price listed (similar sets are around forty to fifty pounds) this Lego “Friends” set is from a growing range of related products and is well made and good fun for the right child. If you are happy to pay the price for genuine Lego then this “Friends” underwater-themed set is worth five points as the quality is all there and it should last for many hours of play.

Apparently it's called "Mission to save the Dolphins"; although there's no mention on the box where it's just identified as "Lego Friends" Ironic, because as we are all made very aware, plastic is one of the things choking the seas and this is of course nearly all plastic. The Lego is of course, as are the bags that it's wrapped in, along with the stickers. The two instruction books are paper. What we have here is a Lego set that I assume is aimed at girls. The figures included are both female, as are the illustrations on the box. Some of the parts, including the Dolphins, are pastel coloured. In the box are parts for two figures, a sunken boat and a rescue submersible. There's also a treasure chest and gemstones, seaweed and a selection of underwater animals. Some of the parts are designed to move, such as the propellors and the mast of the ship. There's quite a lot of small parts - which could be fiddly - and it will take a good couple of hours to put it together.Once that's done, I have no doubt there's considerable play value; although what you are rescuing the Dolphins from isn't clear. Let's just hope it's not plastic pollution!

This is one of those better value-for-money Lego sets, compared to the franchise onesThis one comes with a good number of pieces, but doesn't take too long to put together. It's a little bit trickier than most sets aimed for the target age range, so adult help will likely be required for younger usersThe set itself comes with a submarine complete with accoutrements, a shipwreck overflowing with booty (arh, Jim lad!), seperate treasure pieces to add to the shipwreck, two figures (Kacey and Stephanie), and a dolphin, as well as a whole bunch of diving accessories (helmet, fins, etc), and a water-reactive mapDon't get fooled by the Amazon item description at the top of the page. Strangely enough, given that this is an underwater-themed set, it doesn't come with a restaurant complete with pizza oven. Who'da thunk?

This Lego set is designed for children aged 6 years and upwards. It comes with three well labelled plastic packs of small pieces and the accompanying diagrammatic instructions are clear and easy to follow. The set is part of the Lego Friends set and features Kacey and Stephanie. The set itself is very absorbing and it does take time to fix together correctly. The pieces are small and do require manual dexterity which small hands should find easier than the larger hands of an adult. It is educational: it requires the ability to follow instructions, focus and reasoning, cause and effect plus imagination. This lego is like a 3D puzzle and, moreover, makes a huge change from digital play.Call this old fashioned fun! The finished result is well worth it and your child will gain a sense of achievement once completed.

As with all Lego sets this is a fun set with lots of play opportunities. It has about 360 pieces and one little girl particularly loved the dolphins. It should't take more than a couple of hours, even with young people being very involved, to build but there is lots of fun imaginative play possibilities with the sunken ship, treasure chest, characters and submarine alongside the dolphins. One slight issue is with the 2 girls - their hair doesn't clip on very securely and falls off during play. It would be good to have a girl and boy character but you can import more from other sets. Good set with lots of extra accessories.

This set consists of about 360 pieces and has a very stylized appearance, almost like Lego meets Playmobile. The set has lots of elements for adventure, including a sunken ship, treasure chest and dolphins. Assembly took about an hour, but once completed, this is a set that actually has some playability, as opposed to many that are purely decorative once built. This is a set clearly aimed at girls but not to the extent that it would put off male users.

Lego always wins out for us. Though we have pieces missing from all the sets this year. I have never known that before. They are delightful for my SEN Daughter for her fine motor skills. She love playing with them. I couldn’t give a monkeys about the colour neutrality or fluid gender. My daughter wants purple and pink because that’s what she likes!

15.2.2020

This is a very pretty set. It appealed to my daughter more than lego friends with shopping stalls or trucks/cars. My kids like sea creatures and underwater themes and they keep coming back to programmes like Octonauts and the Deep. This is a good size lego set. It doesn't look pathetic for the cost. A nice kit to build, would recommend.

My 4 yr old grandson loves his lego. I chose this one because wanted him to have something a bit more educational and calmingHowever they do make front of box very girly. and I had to put stickers over the faces to make it less so But well worth purchasing and a very good price to

This was a xmas present for my 7 year old. She loves the ocean so this was the perfect Lego set for her. We had great fun building it and it comes with so many different parts. It is quite fiddly so you have to be gently with some parts when playing with it. But overall a great set.

24.7.2019

This was another impressive set from Lego. I haven't got too much to add other than to say that I agree with the other reviewers. Everything fits together well and works. The description of the product and the photos pretty much tell you all that you need to know.

12.11.2019

Although I find Lego pricey for what it is, my daughter is always over the moon with the sets. Birthday present was a hit and occupied her for a few hours building. Once put together this set makes a nice addition to the rest of her collection.
