I've been using and enjoying the results produced by a Potato Ricer for 15 years and it is a wonderful device not half as well know as it deserves to be.I'd like to share the good news.Excuse me for explaining to those who know but you boil potatoes up, drain then put the spuds in the ricer and push down. The potato comes out in long shreds that curl BUT the potato is much drier than normally mashed spuds and the flavour really comes to the fore. You can use other vegetables too.The three different grades of mesh means you can tailor the size to your needs. Now the first thing to consider when buying one is1. Is it easy to clean?I don't care how good it is if it is a pain to clean and takes ages you will simply not use it pure and simple. This ricer is really easy to clean and food does not stick. You can even get away with a short rinse. The Second feature is 'Is it easy to use'. Again the action is smooth and easy. You don't have to have muscles like Atlas to operate it. The leverage does it all.The construction is good the price is excellent.Recommended.

My wife and daughter love mash and I always prided myself on my ability to get it smooth and lump free every time. What they didn't know is the sheer effort I had to put in every time to achieve this.Pounding away at the potatoes and hand whisking like my life depended on it became routine (how can a potato lump stand up to such abuse for so long???)until I saw this item used on a TV cookery show.It looked right up my street so I searched for it on Amazon and ordered it right away. What a revelation !Boil spuds, throw in the ricer and squeeze...job done.I usually finish off with a little whisk through with the butter and milk but it's 10 times easier and quicker than it used to be.Only thing Iwould note is that there are some small rust spots on the handle from washing in the dishwasher but it's not an issue for me.Join the ricer revolution, free up time and effort and impress your friends and family with smooth but fuss free mash.

My 8 year old son loves eating mash - he'd happily live on it all year! Now we have this super tool to make perfect mash each and every time it's wanted. No lumps; no mess; no waste; what more could you ask for? Just add some butter, milk, salt & pepper to taste and enjoy! We often like to make big fish pies - Sheppards' pies too - with loads of perfect creamy mash on top. Nothing else will do this job.And my son just loves taking a turn, to squish the potatoes through all those little holes!New Comment -Well, my son is now a 14 year old lover of mash potato, and our old gadget bent and collapsed a couple years ago.It was replaced by this: Grunwerg Commercial Grade Potato Ricer. This costs a bit more (nearly £25 on Amazon with shipping) , but is indestructible. Ask your family how many kilos of mash they may require in an average 10-year period of domestic bliss, and re-calculate your financial priorities if necessary.

I love egg mayo and used to make my own by hard boiling the eggs and then using an egg slice and mashing up the eggs.Since I have got a potato ricer I use this and it makes the best egg mayo possible IMO.Supermarkets will try selling you a little pot of egg mayo "sandwich filler" for around a pound. I buy my eggs from either Iceland or Aldi and never pay more than £1.15 for half a dozen large free range.Boil the kettle, pour over eggs in pan on hob. Cook on high for about 12 minutes, drain water and then run under cold water for a couple of minutes until the eggs are cold ( This stops the black "ring" that can happen) and makes them easy to peel.Put 3 eggs in the ricer and squeeze into an airtight container.Repeat with the others, add lashings of mayo and black pepper. Seal up & will last up to 3 days in the fridge - if you can refrain from whacking a dollop in a sarnie and consuming!!

You would think (well I did) that mashed potato is mashed potato - that whatever the mashing process is, once in a mashed state, they would all be the same. Not true! These devices produce creamy smooth lump-free mash every time. It really is different.First time you use it, it seems a bit of a faff, but you soon get used to it, and it involves A LOT LESS effort. Others have complained about it being flimsy or breaking, but mine seems perfectly robust. After use, I chuck it straight in the washing up bowl to soak (don't let the potato dry on) and then put it in the dishwasher later. My only niggle with it is it is a bit bulky to wash and to store, but that is not its fault,it just is what it is.I was tempted to try one after seeing them used and praised several times on Saturday Kitchen. Try it, you will not be disappointed with the results.

When looking at these I wondered why some were more expensive than others, and whether there was something dodgy about this one. The agony of choice ....... I bought this one and am happy to report:It is strong and big and mashes potato very efficiently. It is easy to clean (bung it in cold water while you eat and it all floats off like a dream).I am so happy with it that I bought one for my son at University. Since he has done a project on the most efficient garlic crusher (inspired by my hopeless one) I thought he would appreciate some extra research, and great mashed potato into the bargain. He fully endorses this potato ricer and is busy testing it out on the contents of his fridge. My opinion?I'm puzzled I have got through life so far and only just learned about these. You can't go far wrong with this one.

This is a self-contained unit, which does not come with extra stainless steel ricing discs. I consider this to be an advantage as it makes cleaning very easy and I never tended to use the alternative discs that were supplied with the ricer I used previously.I use mine only to mash potatoes and it does that very well. It is important to ensure that the potatoes are fully cooked before you try to mash them as otherwise you end up with lumps of potato that will not go through the mechanism very easily. Once cooked, the potatoes are mashed as you squeeze the two handles together. The result is lovely, lump-free mashed potato with very little effort. The construction is solid and I do not doubt it is made to last for many years.Highly recommended.

I purchased this after discovering a recipe by Gordon Ramsay for Shepherds Pie. I noticed on the recipe he used a potato ricer (something I had never heard of) so I decided to do some investigating to find out what one of these was. Thinking it would be something rather expensive and electronically operated, I was pleasantly surprised to find this little beauty with rave reviews!!!! Excitedly I decided to order myself one and I was not disappointed. This is amazing! I've always struggled with mashed potato and this is is fantastic. I can't stop making mash now - my husbands getting fed up with it!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!! Don't be without one!

Just received delivery this morning and I am surprised and delighted with the ricer both in quality and performance. Here is a reply I posted to Mrs. P. who is not pleased with the one she received.Hi again Tricia ,got delivery this morning after ordering one despite your review. To test the ricer I microwaved a large white scots potato for six minutes ,peeled off the skin ,pushed it through the ricer no problem ,result lovely fluffy mash.Must be something wrong with the one you received as the majority of us are delighted with ours.Great well built ricer and guaranteed for FIVE years.Hope this helps you.Bill G.

I bought one of these as I love mashed potato but can't stand lumps and as I have carpal tunnel syndrome, any veg mashing was leaving my hand in bad shape afterwards so a friend suggested this product.I have to say it's a great tool and there really aren't any lumps in sight. So far I've used it for mashing potatoes, swede and eggs for sandwiches and it's worked a treat. The only downside is that it is impossible to use it without making a mess as the pressing down inevitably pushes some of the food against the side of the drum and over the lid which drops off when you open it again. Hardly disastrous but worth noting.

Quite simply the best kitchen gadget I've bought in years - for easy, completely lump free mash. I just cut the potatoes in halves or quarters, boil them for about 20 - 25 minutes, then put about 3 or 4 pieces in the ricer, press down and they come out like noodles the other end. When they've all gone through you can just stir the pototo through with some butter or marg with a spoon. No need for a masher!! I was really rubbish at making mash before and it was always lumpy and sloppy and I found it quite hard to do but I think this is completely foolproof and very little effort needed - I am very, very pleased with it!!

I love mashed potato but I hate it if it is full of lumps. There are some potatoes that will not mash down smoothly no matter how long or hard you mix and mash them. Problem solved with the potato ricer. It is impossible to get lumpy mash if you use it. The results are perfect every time. Oh! and mashed swede and carrot are divine. mmm! The all important cleaning? As it is stainless steel it's a breeze. I put mine in the dishwasher after rinsing the bits out, but if I don't think I shall have a load it is just as easy in hot soapy water.

I haven't used my new ricer yet (hence 5 stars to give it the benefit of the doubt) but it doesn't have any separate interts/blades, just one fixed surface with holes (quite small) in it.After reading the other reviews I had expected to receive inserts with different sized holes but now I realise that this isn't mentioned at all in the description so the product must have changed slightly since those old reviews.New comment added: tried the ricer, loved it!! Five stars well deserved, much easier and quicker than my old masher.

It's cheap but good quality and it works great. It's one of those things you only ever need to buy once in your life as it'll last forever if used properly. It's probably not sturdy enough to squeeze citrus fruit with -you'll need to buy an absolute beast of a ricer for that! But as well as potatoes you can squash bananas, strawberries and other soft fruit to make puree or jam easily if you don't have a blender (I'm a bartender in case you're wondering what on Earth I'm squashing fruit for!) Very handy and a good buy.

I only received the ricer today, but it was put to work within a couple of hours. Beautiful mash and no sign of the flimsiness that other reviewers have found. I cut the potatoes into chunks without peeling, boiled them as normal, then two good sized chunks into the ricer (2 just fitted) and Robert's your father's brother. It's so easy to remove the potato skins from the ricer, it's not worth spending time peeling the spuds. Love it. Makes life a lot easier and it'll be easier still once I get myself organised.
