This is a great little set - we bought it for the holder not the knife - though after using the knife this weekend to shuck 12 oysters, I can't fault it! I live in Brighton and around 3 months ago, my partner and I decided to learn how to shuck oysters (we were buying them all the time from restaurants which was becoming expensive!) We went down to the Brighton Shellfish and oyster bar which is a fish mongers on the seafront, we managed to get a dozen and we asked the guy serving, if we could have a demonstration as to how to shuck them. He directed us to his wife who was shucking and selling them from a kiosk across the path opposite the store.

The rubber block makes opening oysters safer and easier.It has a lip on the underside to hook onto the worktop edge, so it doesn't run away when you push against the oyster.Use a towel round one hand holding the oyster down into the cup, while the other hand works the knife - just NOT the rubbish knife included! If you want to invest in a protective glove, its stab-proof, NOT 'cut-proof' that you need to look for.Keeping the oyster flat in the rubber cup retains more of the tasty juices...Oyster knives are a personal preference matter, with different designs having evolved to best deal with the specific characteristics of the oysters in different locations.But this knife simply isn't fit for purpose.My own preference (as an only occasional oyster-opener)

Since returning from living in Canada, I gained an addiction to oysters. Sadly in Cambridgeshire there aren't an awful lot of oyster bars at reasonable prices therefore shucking your own is the only option.Prior to using this product I had used a screwdriver and then knife. Those days are gone. The time saved from this oyster knife and the little oyster stand is amazing. I am unsure how durable it is but it handled the first dozen very easily.Find the suction area, push in (I like to cover my other hand with a towel, just in case) and work around. Painfully simple. Very quick. Extremely happy.Thank you!

This is really great! I love my oyster opening set.I love oysters but never could open one and going out for oyster is getting very expensive.When i saw that my fishmonger start selling oysters i thought i need to learn how to open them.I never opened an oyster myself before and thought i'll struggle to open an oyster for the first time but it wasn't bad at all. If you've done a view then you get the grips of it and now there is no oyster i can't open! And it's fairly easy!I even can open oysters now without my opening set and it takes just a bit longer.I can only recommend this oyster opening set!

This oyster kit is amazing. It was our first time to open oysters ourselves and I must admit, it would have been very very difficult without this kit. I recommend using a cloth on top of the oyster so you don't accidentally hurt your fingers. The piece where you put the shell on fits perfectly and you would struggle otherwise by putting it the oyster on a flat surface. The knife did not bend like I thought initially. Don't use your kitchen knifes as this would damage them.

Ideal for holding oysters in place while you shuck them, have used the holder on some very large Norfolk Oysters and the roughnessof the shells has scuffed the plastic a little but overall does the job well and collects the liquid from the oysters which would normally be lost. Knife is okay but as the oysters I get are much larger than a average oyster I use a more robust knife. The knife however is fine on average size oysters.

The oyster opening set comes with a plastic knife and holder, with a grip on the bottom.I was a little concerned about the quality of the knife at first, but after you get the technique down, opening oysters becomes easy. I still use a padded oven glove for some protection, but haven't needed it.It's changed something I used to worry about doing into something that is pretty much fuss free.

On a recent trip to our local fish market I was temped by the oysters, but no I had to stop myself, how would I open them? Scouring the internet I found this little gem. It is very reasonably priced and the does the job a treat. I especially found the rubber holder useful. My partner taught me the opening technique, but there are lots of videos on the internet showing you the skill.

This is a great gadget, one of those that actually gets used in my house. I use an Oxo Goodgrips knife because I have a condition with my hands but I have used this knife to test it and it works well. I've had it a few years and it's been truly roughed up by the oyster shells, so this shows that it is definitely saving my hands and tea towels!

This has made me want to eat oysters more! I love oysters, but shucking them can be a bit of a chore....but not with this little set. So easy to use and makes shucking almost a pleasure. Granted you could say that I am getting better over time, but I can assure you that as soon as I started using this, I became an expert straight away!!

Novice at the art of shucking but this did the trick! Held the oysters,no matter the shape or size,rock solid in place and did not slip around at all. Didn't use the provided knife as I had one supplied with my oysters but it did look a bit flimsy and might break under the extreme pressure that is required to get an oyster open?

I bought this for my partner who loves oysters !! I was fed up of him breaking the tip off my knives so decided to seek out a gadget to stop that happening !! He loves it and said that the knife is brilliant, he said the holder takes a bit of getting used to but he's happy and my knives are safe.Good gadget and value for money.

The holder is really useful, makes opening the oysters much easier, holds them firmly making it much less likely to slip, also helps to stop the liquid spilling out. The knife isn't as sturdy as some, but being narrow is easier to get into the end and opens them fairly easily by wiggling / sliding from slide to side.

Purchased this set as I enjoy eating fresh oysters and needed a knife to open large quantities quickly and easily. This did a good job! for opening 8x dozens of oysters!The set was handy, the knife was strong and made of good quality plastic and metal. I would recommend this product.

I was skeptical about this product. But after years of fighting with stubborn oysters I thought "well let's give it a go." It is fantastic. Easy to use and very quick for each individual oyster. So good I've ordered 2 more for other oyster loving members of the family.
