This coat is 100% worth the hefty price tag. My dog is a shar pei mix and has very thin fur, bully breed chest, extra skin around her neck, small-ish head, flat eggshell ears and a thick curly q tail that rests on her back. She’s adorable ? but hard to fit for coats. Like the other reviewers said the Hurtta coat is crazy adjustable, thin but very very warm, covers more of my dogs body than anything else and doesn’t restrict Jezebel’s movements in the slightest. We just went through a crazy polar vortex with -35 degree temps, 40+ mph winds, snow and ice and she didn’t seem notice any of it when she had this bad boy on. I do have a couple of tips, however, for a few issues I see people listing.1)Do not cut the straps off of a $100 dog coat. ??‍♀️ The ones that go around the back legs do detach on the outside loop, not the interior, which is sewn in. I agree, the straps do suck and they absolutely ran right up my dogs butt and irritated her...lady bits. But they are necessary! They do keep the coat in place as it will shift without them and will prevent wind from flipping the backside up and exposing your pup to freezing temps. I attached some pictures of what I’m talking about and what I ended up doing, which was to disconnect both strap at the bottom, swoop them crisscross under her belly and attached them to the opposite side. This kept the coat totally in place, wasn’t tight on her belly or overly loose either.2) The butt button is kind of a pain...in the butt. ? I cinched and adjusted a million times and could not get this perfected where no poop or pee touched it and it still covered her back legs. Can’t win every battle I guess. So I opted to cinch it where no pee got on it but occasionally a turd or two might (I’m rarely fast enough to unsnap it before she goes). So, if you see the butt button area filling up like a dirty diaper don’t panic! The interior material is super slippery and it will fall out and doesn’t leave any skid marks behind. Just remember to wipe it down when you come back inside, which takes less than 30 seconds. Haven’t dealt with any diarrhea yet, so I can’t speak to that.3) The snood!! I love the snood because it’s hilarious and awesome. But, with Jezebel’s flat as a pancake ears it would constantly slip over her eyes every time she shook her head, even after tightening both spots. So what I did was tighten the furthest back one comfortably (collar tightness) and the front one I did loosely and rolled it under and back until just before her ears. Worked like a charm and stayed put!I attached pics of Jezebel with no coat (so you can see the ears and cuteness), her after a polar vortex walk with the snood and straps in place, and what I did to adjust the straps.Even with the few minor “problems” this coat has it is the absolute best! If you’re teetering between buying it or not just go for it! It was last you years!! I beyond highly recommend!

German shorthair pointers and fairly frigid upstate Maine winter so far.... I usually go with "Ruffwear" products which have more than proven themselves with me over the years but they don't offer anything at this level of cold weather protection. There is a very good Canadian made brand that I looked into at about the same price point but decided to go with this one and have zero regrets. Some features that are hard to tell on the Amazon description or pictures: the rear of the coat snaps behind the rear legs which is a pretty slick feature to keep the garment wrapped around the rear end. The built-in turtleneck works great, you can pull it up over the ears and forehead. It stays in place with an adjustable elastic drawstring. The reflective inner material I think actually works. I initially thought it was kind of gimmicky but it's very similar to the material found in newer ski jacket liners. The reflective detail is fairly amazing at night. Have not washed it yet so can't comment about that but the quality seems top notch so I'm hopeful. *** regarding sizing: obviously sizing is key. I took measurements as described on the webpage as carefully as I could and ended up being a little bit on the big side. So I ended up re-ordering the next smaller size and it fits perfectly. A bit of an inconvenience but definitely worth getting it right. Typical Amazon fast refund processing so not a big deal. Definitely The most I have ever spent on dog "clothes" but frostbite in dogs is real and my pups are worth it !

This is the third Hurtta coat I have purchased for my dog and I love it. It is incredibly well designed and very warm but comfortable to walk and run around in. I like the fact that it covers the chest and stomach as many dog coats do not. It does not require you to lift the dog's leg(s) which may be a problem if you have an older or arthritic dog. The coats neck cover is actually long enough to cover a dogs head (I have a Golden Retriever as reference) so it's great not just for cold but also rainy days. The lining and grey fabric has a metallic pattern to it which I believe is for heat retention. The rear (which you cannot see from the photo)has a snap - it can go over the tail if it's raining heavily or under the tail (but you need to unsnap if your dog has to eliminate). Easy enough. LOVE this coat. LOVE all my Hurtta coats. Finnish design, excellent craftsmanship and it looks super cool on my dog. For reference I purchased a 26 for my 80 lb Golden. I probably could have gotten away with a slightly smaller size but I like that everything is covered well so I deliberately selected this size. It does not look oversized on my dog and covers him properly. Also, there is an opening for the lead. Just a final note: All these dog coats that cinch around the dog do slide a bit because of the waterproof/resistant tech fabrics but it's a small thing relative to the warmth and coverage it provides.

Love this! Just a few things-Solid poops can go straight through the little slit at the back. Yay! That being said, it's probably healthy to wipe it down if your dog poops while wearing it. Softer poops can brush and cling to the fabric better. Best just to wipe it down.I have a wiry little guy without a solid double coat and I live above the arctic circle. This coat makes cold, windy, winter bathroom breaks doable for him. I have had it on him at -30F and gotten a good 10 minutes of active movement out of it. I think if i'd had better boots, that time could definitely be stretched. It's possible that it's just a little big for him, so that may be a factor.WARNING ABOUT RUNNING- My dog and I do long rides/runs at about 20mph.We did a 5 mile ride/run and when we got back, where the coat skirts his front legs were chafed and just barely starting to bleed. However he can easily run full tilt in this for quite some time before that becomes an issue.Visibility- While odd, the reflective pattern is GREAT! Long arctic winters are dark and even just a little light hitting this will light your dog up!All in all very, very happy with this product. It withstands some strong wind, has a hood that'll cover sensitive ears, and makes it more comfortable for my dog to burn some energy outside for a bit in the bitter cold. Would definitely buy again!

After doing a lot of searching for a warm coat for my Mini Pinscher/Chihuahua mix, I came across this coat from Hurtta. She shivers easily, even with a double layer fleece coat on, and the temperatures in the mid 40’s.After measuring her according to the size chart, I decided to get the size 16 instead of the 14 to make sure it was long enough and covered her behind. The size 16 was humongous on her! The coat arrived in its original packaging and had a size chart according to breed on the back of it.( Photo included ) This was extremely helpful in reordering the correct size. The Hurtta website doesn’t even have this on their size chart. I ended up reordering my 11 pound Min Pin the same coat in a size 12.As you can see from the photos, it fits her perfectly with plenty of room to move around comfortably. I haven’t had it long, but it seems very well made, and covers her body really well to keep her warm. It does have a little stretch in the material, but not a lot which is okay. I haven’t used it in the rain or wet snow yet, but it seems like the materials will keep her dry.The inner foil print material does reflect body heat, and she feels really warm next to her furry short coat. I highly recommend this coat for any dog, but especially if you have one that gets cold easily on a walk, or even a potty break in the backyard.

I wanted a warm, high visibility coat for my 110 lb Doberman because he "works" with me in the woods. I measured his back from withers to base of tail as suggested. He was 27", but there was only a 26" coat available on the site so I took a chance and ordered it. The coat arrived a day earlier than scheduled. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the material and workmanship. The exterior material is soft and durable and the interior lining is soft and warm. The coat fit my pup to a tee. It's as if they used his shape as a mold when they made it! I'm sure if it were a size bigger it probably would have been ok too.The strap that secures the coat around the chest area has ample length to work with so if your dog has a bigger chest I wouldn't worry too much because it's highly adjustable. The length of the back is definitely the most important measurement to go by when ordering. My dog loves the coat and he is very comfortable in it. None of his movements are restricted and I like that the coat covers so much of his body. I attached a pic of the rear of the coat to show how it fits around the tail area...there is a snap button at the rear that keeps the coat closed under the tail for added protection from wind/rain/cold. This coat is NOT cheaply made and will last us a long time. Very happy with this purchase. :)

This is THE best jacket for extreme cold and snow. The leg loops don't irritate my pitbulls thighs at all (short haired dog with sensitive skin so that says a lot), and with the belt around the middle this is officially the only jacket that stays on my dog perfectly, at all times, no matter how much she runs and jumps through the snow! Keeps her so toasty! The thermal inside layer is always giving off so much heat when I take it off of her, keeping her chest and belly warm at all times. The turtle neck design also has an inner layer that can be adjusted to form a hood around their face for extreme wind and rain. I do use this as a rain coat as well, as she will only go out to use the bathroom during a storm if she is wearing it.That tells you how dry it keeps her! The design is just flawless. I love the connected chest piece. If you need a good coat for your dog, order this. It is MORE than worth the money. This is our 3rd year with the same jacket and it is still like new. Follow the size chart and measure your dog. I did have to send it back because the medium was too long. I have a 50 pound, very small pitbull and she is a small. She absolutely adores her coat and gets excited whenever she sees me grab it. As I said, perfect fit, comfortable, and keeps her super warm in the frigid temperatures of the Northeast!

I did a lot of research on dog coats and spoke to professional dog trainers and walkers and they all said get a Hurtta coat for your dog - you won't regret it. I have a 5 month old German Shorthaired pointer and needed a good coat to protect him from the cold weather we get here during Ontario winters. I purchased the Hurtta Extreme Warmer jacket and I am very pleased with my purchase so far. I did the measurement as indicated on the item description page (top of neck to base of tail). My dog measured in around 19" so I bought the 20" model knowing that he will get up to 70lbs fully grown (he is currently 50lbs). I went with the orange color model as I like to take him to parks and trails to run and this color is very visible from a distance.I took him for a run the other day to see how the coat handles during his run and it stays close to his body without any movement and does not impede his movements. The coat comes with a neck warmer and small hood built right in for those very chilly days. the overall construction of the coat is great and the material looks to be very durable. Is it the cheapest coat on the market?..... No. but, I want the best for my pet and warmth and safety is a high priority for me. I am so glad I bought this coat!

This coat is perfect in every way. I have an 8.5lb Maltipoo who is pretty long in the body (12") but super slender and lean. The 12" length is great for her (I think it's actually longer than 12" with the bungee loosened all the way) with the bungee to shorten it a bit so it falls right at the base of her tail. It's a bit large in the body, because she's so lean, but the belly band is so adjustable that it's no problem and it just means it covers more of her underbelly. I love the back leg flaps to keep the wind from blowing in. Because it's a bit long, the opening for the collar hole perfectly aligns with her harness. You can see where the intended harness hole is, farther along the back, which would be a good placement for larger dogs wearing this size coat. I LOVE that they put two openings in the back, as harnesses have varying connection points, some closer to the neck, some farther down the back. The turtleneck pulls up and over her head so that she isn't wet when I have her in her carrying tote when it's raining or snowing. On the days it is single digits or sub-zero, I put her polar fleece under this coat and she is toasty no matter the temperature. This is the ultimate winter coat.

I highly recommend this coat to anyone, I encourage you to look beyond the high price to the quality and warmth of this warmer. I would give this warmer 10 stars if I could, this is by far the absolute best coat I have ever owned or encountered. I have a vizsla, a breed with zero undercoat and hardly any overcoat as well. This breed is high energy and needs excersize daily so requires a coat in cold weather. I am in Canada where we get very cold days, and lots of snow with wind chills that push us into the -35 range. This coat exceeds every expectation I had for warmth, comfort ease of use and quality. My boy loves this coat and he can run, jump twist and turn without issue. The outer fabric is a soft almost lightweight fabric, although fine when we are hiking or he is chasing ball I don't put this on him when he is wrestling with his canine friends only because their teeth MAY tear it. This she'll is water resistant and so far any snow or rain has beaded and rolled off. I do not have a single, my purchase was flawless shipping was fast and this product exceeded all my expectations. Thank you Hurtta for an awesome product

I purchased this coat two months ago right before we had some freezing weather around Thanksgiving. My pooch is a 60 lb short-coated pitbull who doesn't fare well in temperatures below 35 degrees. While wearing this, he's able to have a decent walk in even the coldest of days--recently here in New York City we had some below zero weather and my boy was able to comfortably stroll outside for more than 15 minutes. Without it, he can barely last 3 minutes. It's fairly easy to put it on him, and the buckle around the chest is adjustable.I've bought other jackets and coats that were much cheaper--and what I got were jackets and coats that were much cheaper in quality and function.I have no doubts this jacket will last for many years since it's made so incredibly well with quality materials and stitching. It's been washed and air dried many times since I got it and it's holding up incredibly well.

The Hurta dog jacket kept my dog warm when the temperature got to 1 degree Celcius with the addition of a fleece sweater underneath. Unfortunately, we get a lot of rain where we live and this jacket was not waterproof or water resistant. In fact, after we got home from a rainy 5 Km walk, it was so heavy with water that it took almost a day to dry out. My dog hates rain in her face so it was nice to be able to pull up the hood over the back of her head so she had some protection. I was concerned about poop getting on the jacket when she did her business (as it snaps under the tail) but it never has. On the other hand, urine gets on the jacket when she pees. I did like the fit and shape of the jacket, the cowl and the hood, the draping over the legs and that there was no velcro that eventually stops sticking to itself. Other than the jacket I got was not water resistant, it is a nice jacket.

Chihuahua-Yorkie Mix in Canada. He is so tiny, and it gets so cold. Was VERY concerned about getting him the right coat. Bought and returned a few until this one. Now I am so happy my little guy is warm! So many great features but I will tell MY favorite ones: very easy off/on (over the head, clip belt around belly) no leg holes due to clever design; not restricting in his movement at all (he runs and plays with no stiffness ,caused by jacket); keeps ALL OF HIM covered...best, has a sleeve inside the neck that pulls out like a turtle neck that keeps drafts from blowing into the neck/chest areas and can pull up and cover his ears on cold, cold days; several pull ties in areas to keep it snug and custom sized in required places, snaps around his tail to cover his haunches. Insulation is light, but when I take it off after a walk and feel his coat he isn't even chilled. Recommend highly.

I’m in NC & it been bouncing between 10-40 degrees. I was bundled up to the max & still cold, so I knew my fur baby had to be freezing tail. Most jackets/ sweaters for dogs are ill fitted, not warm enough, pull their fur, etc..... (basically bs). When I found this jacket I was hoping that it was worth it & everything I’d hoped for in the doggie jackets previously. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! My doggo LOVES it! She’s running & playing more at the dog park! I love that it can cover her ears & it has a liner inside! When I take her jacket off now, I literally feel the heat coming off of her! Doesn’t tug on her fur, covers her belly, has reflective strips on it, covers her chest, covers her butt,& it’s rain resistant! Really what else could you possibly want! Thank you SSSSSOOOOO MUCH for making a quality doggie jacket!

I have a one year old 65 pound pit bull. We live in northern MN where the temps hit -40F every winter. While we haven't gotten that cold yet, the jacket has been worn on days where the temp has been zero degrees. It took my dog about 2 trips outside with the jacket no before he realized it was keeping him warm. No problems putting it on him. I used the info provided to get the correct size and it fits him perfectly. He may not look very happy in that one photo but I was teasing him about looking like a Christmas ornament and he wasn't too happy about that. LOL! He has managed to put one small 1/2" long tear in the coat but barb wire fences will do that. It was easy to sew and all is good now.It was expensive but having tried other coats on my other dogs, this is the best thing going I've found so far.
