I bought this coat for my male border collie who loves playing out in the rain. The coat is very well designed to keep the dog completely covered and dry. It also protects the dog's front belly and chest from mud and water while keeping the back area of the belly open for when nature calls. The coat has a snap at the back to secure it under the dog's tail and it has two elastic bands that loop around the dog's rear legs to keep the coat from sliding from side to side off the dog's back. My border collie love's wearing it. The coat is very easy to put on him. You just slip it over the dog's head, pull the flap under the belly, and fasten the waistband. He can run and play and slink around freely while wearing his rain coat. The fabric is good quality, the coat is fully lined, and I like that there is an opening for walking a dog who wears a harness. The collar of the coat can be folded back or pulled up to cover the dog's neck.I had to send the original coat back and order a different size because the first coat was too small. I was going off the size chart provided when I ordered this coat and yes, I did measure my dog properly using a proper tape measure. My border is tall and very long in the body, but he does not have a wide chest or belly. I was going off the measurement for his size around his chest because I wanted to make sure the strap fit securely. I have other coats for my border that might cover his back, but the band to secure the coat around his belly was way too big. According to the size chart and my dog's chest measurements, my border would need the 18" size. If I went by the length of his body, he would need the 26" size. So a big difference in sizes. I ordered a size in between the two sizes, the 22", and this size didn't really cover his body very well. I then ordered the 26" and this size fit him much better AND the band adjusted enough to fit around his belly. It's nice to know that with the larger coats, the belly band does adjust down to a much smaller size for those dogs who are not big in the chest.

This cost is relatively expensive - but it is extremely well designed & constructed with high quality materials:After considerable research I purchased this raincoat for my dog. I was looking specifically for a rain coat - not a coat for warmth, but something to keep my dog clean and dry and could use in all 4 seasons. This coat fills the bill admirably. The chest panel covers most, but not all, of the underside of my dog - a spot where she normally accumulates considerable dirt and water on our daily long walks. She has considerable hair on her back hindquarters. Most dog coats leave this critical area uncovered, or only partially covered. This coat fully covers most of her rear hindquarters. It does NOT have a hood for her head, which I prefer. Dogs loath wearing coats in general - but they truly loath coats with hoods that encumber their heads and ears. It is easy to put on, easy to adjust, and has adjustments at all the critical points. The proof is in the results and, after a recent walk in a torrential downpour, I was pleased to find only her feet and lower legs wet upon returning home.An important note - correctly measuring your dog is CRUCIAL with this coat. I initially purchased one that was 2" too long, and had to deal with the aggravation of returning and reordering this coat. The length is the critical measurement and it is from the withers (not the neck) to the base of the tail that matters. They are reluctant to "do their business" even in a properly fitting coat, but get used to it over time. However, if the coat is too long (as mine initially was), it encumbers their tail and rear flanks and they are even more reluctant. Hurtta has some very specific information on their website about properly measuring your dog - be sure to review it before ordering.

I first ordered a size 24" for my 33lb Aussie because she measured 23" along the back and the recommendation was to go a size larger if in between. That one seemed to drown her, so I sent it back and ordered the size 22". It arrived today and the fit is very good. This is a great raincoat for dogs, covering from the back of the head to over her behind, and everywhere in between, including chest, front shoulders, part way down all 4 legs, and the feathers on her behind. I tied a small loop knot in the straps that go around the back legs to make them just the right length. And the strap that goes around the abdomen can be rolled once or twice to bring it into the best position for your dog. This should keep my dog 80-85% dry on rainy walks or campouts. One other thing, the first Hurtta raincoat was brand new, the re-ordered coat appeared to have been a returned item, wasn't in the same new packaging, and had hairs from another animal on it. Both orders were Amazon Prime and fulfilled by Amazon. Inspection didn't reveal any observable defects but I was surprised just the same. I guess the one I sent back after only trying it on my dog isn't technically brand new either, except I included all the original packaging with the return.

I have a German Shepherd and wanted a rain coat for hiking trips if it rains or snows. We live in CO and the weather is unpredictable. Although my dog loves the water, I do not love a wet and stinky dog! I bought this when he was 6 months old, I took my measurements and when a size up for growth. It was unfortunately pretty useless at first because he was too small for the larger size I got on purpose and he hated it. So my first recommendation would be to get the right size! Now he has grown into it perfectly! I put it on him for the first time a few weeks back when we went to the dog park during a blizzard. He barely noticed it and ran around full speed!! I was super glad it didn't hinder his movements. The back leg straps and tail strap keep it in place and he didn't seem bothered at all. The ONLY down side is the tail strap and potty #2...yuck! But it didn't hinder potty #1 at all. Long story short, we got home and besides his paws, he was pretty dry! Even his belly!

My dog and I are out in all conditions short of tornado watch and close lightning (just because it's raining doesn't mean he doesn't need exercise), but I'd rather not have to dry a whole dog before work and sometimes in heavier rain he's happier with some raingear (most of the time he's absolutely drenched from splashing in the fresh puddles). He's 22" long (collar to base of tail), 29" girth, 17" collar, and the 22 fits him well. The neck and snood are adjustable by bungee, and it's easy to get on (no leg through a hole). The neck and belly coverage are awesome, and there's a harness opening as well. I love the orange...it's almost painfully bright, but we're out before dawn year-round,so the color in addition to the reflectors are awesome. During the daylight it's impossible to lose your dog if they're within sight. The materials are very similar to my own rain jacket - outer shell and inner breathable mesh.

Finally a raincoat for my dog that covers his bum! Even better, covers his chest from the splatters of mud as he walks and runs through puddles!Particular notes:There is a snap for just below the tail (creating a tail-hole in the back), and I was pleasantly surprised that when I undid this snap, there was no problem with my dog pooping on the coat (haven't tried with the snap in place)I first bought the 24" for my fairly petite WGSD, and wasn't sure about the fit. I put up an image of my dog wearing it to the Hurtta Facebook page, and they got back to me a few days later with recommendations (in his case, that the 24" would work, but the 36" would probably be better)When I first strapped my dog into the coat,he walked a bit funny (there are straps for under the legs to hold it in place), but he got over it within a few minutes of actually walking around in it.Overall, quite happy with the coat!

We have purchased many coats for our 70-pound GSD. This particular coat is the best coat for rainy, cool, and windy days. Our objective is to keep Scout warm and dry and to make it easier to keep her clean. Hurtta coats are well designed and well made--superior in function and appearance to all other coats we have encountered in our quest for the perfect coat. The opening in the back provides access to Scout's harness when she is on leash. The bright color and reflective features make it easier to keep an eye on her in the woods and fields. Her chest area and shoulders are protected, and she has good coverage on her hips and back legs. The Hurtta Torrent Coat makes walking in the rain less bothersome, because you have less fur to clean and dry before coming in the house. The recommend size (28) for GSDs was perfect.

I wanted a rain jacket for my pug with a back slit to attach a harness. I found based on reviews this one seemed to have this option and fit most. In practice the opening the the head and neck are tight for my pug although the length is perfect. Mind you I still use the jacket as currently there are limited alternatives but I really feel this design would benefit greatly by making the opening adjustible or elastic. The little hood is so tight I push it past her ears to relieve pressure on them, so useless. The jacket is well made and if fits your dog is a good choice. Oh...and one other thought, I can't imagine ever using the snap around the tail.Blocks my dog from defecating and increases the stress of wearing a coat in the first place, fortunately the elastic straps around the hind legs are enough.

i look every were for a coat for him as he stared getting hot spots and was not drying fast enough between rainy days and blow dryer session were just not enough. this is the best rain coat i could have found. it works well with my urban trail harness, love the easy way of putting it on and it coves where you need it most. i would recommend that if your dog is in between sizes you go one size up. i did for my very large husky.it has reflective areas on the front and along the sizes and on the wist strap for better viability for the night time walks, has a adjustable buckle for the chest cover that goes around the waist. the neck has bungees that will shrink it and make it more snug.and leg flap covers to cover the fluff on the hocks of your dog.

We got two for our fur babies for when we go into the highlands these have surpassed our expectations and was worth every penny they fit brilliantly and keep them both nice and dry without getting overheated and still able to toilet when they want. What made it easier for us was we use Julius K9 harness on them both and the flap in the back was in the perfect place for the d ring on the harness for the leashes to clip on to. the dogs walked very comfortably in these coats what is a first for us, they are fussy and don't like to be restricted what these coats didn't d0.tough enough to put up with the unpredictable weather and winds in the highlands.I would highly recommend these make sure you get the measurements right we got a 26 and a 28.

Excellent quality and materials, and great design. Just because the raincoat is light weight... this is not "cheap" material as someone stated. The outer jacket is made of the same material as some expensive high-end ski pants and jackets that I have owned. The inner fabric on the jacket is soft and helps keep my dog warm. On a side note though, I measured my dog per instructions, and to a "T". The jacket was a little to small and snug on her, it was too tight on her when walking, and it tightened up on her neck when she layed down. I exchanged it for the next size up, and the new one fits so much better by not being too tight.

Love it! Easy to put on, cute colour, and dog is comfortable wearing it. Additionally it has an opening on the back to connect a lead to a harness. This was important for me since sometimes I take my dog biking in the rain and I connect her Walky Dog to a harness when we bike.Update: Since my original review my dog has really gotten some good wear out of this. We went on a 16km bike ride in torrential rain and she stayed bone dry under jacket which allowed her to keep a good body temp so she didn’t freeze. She actually stayed drier than I did lol... I guess I need a better rain jacket now.

First of all this jacket is BRIGHT. But I love that about it. My running buddy tends to wander once in a while and with hunting season winding down I worry about her. She’s also spent most of her life in Arizona so she can get a little chilly. This jacket is a nice light layer that keeps her warm during our midday runs. She has a heavier jacket for colder days but she gets too hot running in it. It’s so bright it kind of messes with any pictures i take of her but that’s okay. It’s the experience that matters, not the pictures. As long as she’s comfortable and safe then I’m happy.

This is the 2nd Hurtta Torrent coat we've bought. We bought the first one for our mountain dog and it works excellent in keeping him dry and clean in foul weather so decided to buy another for our 2nd dog. The quality is excellent and its easy to fit. Once fitted, it stays in place really well by the use of a couple of elasticated loops around the back legs and a strap with a clip that secures under the belly area. It sounds simple but this secures the coat even when the dogs are running and rolling around. Would definitely recommend; such a great product and the dogs love it.

20.1.2016

We bought this along with a Hurtta padded harness since the two are designed to work together (the harness can be worn under the coat and pokes out through a neat flap so it remains easy to attach a lead or just hold the harness loop). The coat really suits our Collie-cross and she is very happy to wear it on wet days. It seems secure enough to do its job well and helps keep her clean as well as dry. Most importantly she seems to have full freedom of movement when wearing this coat and it doesn't bother her at all - and that for me says more than any five star review.
