The KONG looked to be a solid, well made product that could withstand much abuse from my delightful chewy chums. It came with some simple packaging that even the most sophisticated chewy chums could have appreciated, and it arrived safely and was delivered to the paws of the licking panting shedding machines. The waggy tailed chewy chums loved the smell and taste of the stinky rubber. Each to their own. I tried to tell them that if my keyboard smelled like that I definitely wouldn't lick it, but they were not put off by my reservations. The toys sent the pack of wild beasts into a frenzy of bouncing, wagging, panting and general euphoria. The menagerie was sent into a further frenzy when they saw the jar of peanut better being pulled carefully from the cupboard. Me being a mere human slave, I couldn't get anything past them! They were then sent to another level of euphoria, a rubbery peanuty one. As I slathered peanut butter into the stinky rubber toy they ascended onto another plane of existence, becoming one with the universe and at peace with all the wrongs in the world. They were drooling and watching me with big puppy dog eyes as I slathered very thick and hard to slather peanut butter all over the inside of the stinky rubber toy. When the wild beasts disguised as my pets received the peanut butter filled stinky rubber toys, they each took them to a comfy spot, and proceeded to lick ferociously at the peanut butter, unaware that it was pretty much the same sort of consistency as wallpaper paste, and that it would take hours to get it all off. The hairy ones licked away for hours, unaware of the goings on of the world, too busy to look up from their peanut-gasm.Eventually, the cuddly hairy ones decided to leave the stinky rubber toys and came back to the modern world, and continued to live their lives, with a peanut shaped void clearly visible in their eyes. It saddened me, but I didn't want to face the repercussions of them overeating peanut butter and the river of peanut mud that would follow later on. Upon inspection of the toys by the human slave, she was correct in thinking they had finished. The only remaining peanut butter was far out of reach of the beasts tongues and starting to dry. A quick wash out with some water and they were as clean and stinky as new.The love - peanut relationship went on forever. The lick machines continued to lick peanut butter from the kongs, but they also found a new love for them even when the peanut was gone. They would take the black toys and sit with them, aimlessly chewing them for hours, making a beautiful symphony of squeaking rubber noises. Mozart couldn't compare. Even after several months, and then eventually years, the toys still stood up to the test of large sharp beast teeth and regular abuse. The toys stayed intact with only a peppering of tooth marks all over, like tooth holed freckles. They were firmly in love with these toys, and they lived happily ever after together.

I read about the Kong Toy in a training book (Imagine life with a well behaved dog). I have only had it for a day but I can already see that the dogs love it! They are both rescue dogs, I have had them for 10 months. One is a very tenacious chewer with separation anxiety, 7 yrs old (dachshund) and the other is a boredom chewer (dachsxterrier) who is 3.I decided to try a kong because rawhide is not good for the dachs, it makes her vomit. I'm not happy to give them shank bones because the dachs can splinter them. They also chew sticks and bits of wood.I bought the extreme (black) kong because the dachs has got a very strong jaw and I didn't think the classic kong would last with her.I bought 2 medium and 2 large, one pair for the house and one pair for the car. The dachs has been busy with her large kong for 4 hours today! She is determined to get the last treat out. I am hoping the kong will help to reduce and cure her separation anxiety. For this size of dog (7kg), they seem to be more comfortable with the large. It's a good size for them to lick the treats out and to hold with their paws. And I can fit more treats in it.The medium kong I will use as a boredom toy and play toy, for example for them to have something to chew in the car. The medium kong is also good for the 3 year old, who likes to play with balls. He prefers the kong to the ball because of its shape (it fits easer into his mouth) and he prefers the kong's bounce and wobbly roll. The bounce is unpredictable and not too high, so the kong is more like a little animal trying to get away, as opposed to the ball which just bounces straight up and down. Some buyers found that the extreme (black) kong had a rubbery smell which the dogs didn't like, and so they had to wash and aerate it several times before the dogs would play with it. I haven't had that trouble at all, the dogs liked the kongs immediately.I think kongs should be in every dog owner's starter kit!

I couldn't be any happier about this purchase if I tried! I have purchased various KONG products over the years and for the most part have always found them to be high quality, well made toys. KONG are a brand I have always trusted but a while pack I purchased one of their toys and let's just say, neither me nor my dog had a very positive experience. While this put me off for a while, I have used KONG extreme with other dogs in the past and never had an issue. I purchased one as my dog needs more exercise, but due to her older age and health problems, it needs to be something both gentle and stimulating. The KONG extreme is made of seriously hard wearing rubber and is easily stuffed with treats of your choosing, although KONG does offer specific products to use in conjunction. The KONG extreme keeps the dog stimulated and interested due to the way it moves unpredictably. In addition, I have found it to be ideal for my dog as she is particularly destructive; she loves to chew but sadly this means her toys don't last more than 15 minutes. The KONG extreme has been the exception and despite prolonged daily use, there are few signs of wear and absolutely no damage, tearing or splitting which affects the overall strength and integrity of the toy and I anticipate we will be using it for a long time to come.I have awarded this product a firm 5 stars from a possible 5 and this applies to every aspect. This product is sturdy and strong, provides endless hours of play, offers versatility and choice and is easy to clean. A little recommendation for me; if using wet or a combination of wet and dry food, I would recommend popping this in the freezer for a while before handing it over to your pooch. This makes the food harder to extract and prolongs play and exercise time, making your dog work harder for their treats. If my review has been helpful to you, please take the time to rate me by clicking 'yes' below. Many thanks in advance!

Lasted 7 years of daily use, helped relieve separation anxietyI have a border collie who can destroy toys within minutes. These kongs are indestructible. I now have 3 and fill each with some food, freeze it, and give it to my dog just before I leave the house. It takes her about 30 minutes to finish eating from a frozen kong, which gives her time to adjust to being alone. The sizing is a bit odd. The large is actually quite small and I'm only happy giving it to my mum's terrier. The hole MUST be bigger than your dog's jaw as they will get it right in there and could get stuck. If you are leaving your dog unattended this could result in a broken jaw.I use the 2 biggest sizes for my collie. There's a hole in the bottom of the kong which is a safety feature to prevent your dog getting their tongue stuck in the kong (prevents suction inside the kong). This is essential so don't be tempted by any of the cheaper kong-type toys without holes.Dishwasher safeI've found the kong stuffings are not really any good. I prefer to make my own:Tripe & brown rice:I use Butchers tripe mixed with brown rice (or just tripe on its own) dailyKibble (for dogs with a sensitive stomach):Fill the kong with your dog's dry food, pour over some boiled water (hold the kong over a sink as there's a hole in the bottom) and freeze. The balls of food will moisten slightly with the water and then freeze together so that it takes your dog longer to finish eatingTuna and egg:Mix a tin of tuna with an egg, fill the kong and microwave for 15 seconds. You may need to keep microwaving it in increments to get the egg to fully set. Play around with the settings on your microwavePeanut butter/pate:spread peanut butter or pate around the inside of the kong.WARNING: make sure your peanut butter DOES NOT CONTAIN XYLITOL as this is poisonous for dogs

The Kong has been around for a long time, but over the years they have been re-invented and improved. The Extreme Kong is a lot tougher than the others which is what hard jawed dogs need. When chosing a Kong always get a bigger size than you think your dog needs. I purchased this one for my older rescue Mongrel (Alsatian x Greyhound x Staffie). She has a big mouth but is not an aggressive chewer and I mainly purchased it as another activity toy for feeding, to slow up her eating! To use for this purpose (on any size Kong) put something slightly soft and sticky in first (soft cheese / peanut butter etc) then push in some food (I use Iams) then some more soft food and so on,layering it and pushing hard down so it is really compacted. You could even put the stuffed Kong into the freezer for a while to make it harder to get the food out.Use in this way acts as a boredom buster, something to use their brains to get out the treats and as a way of slowing down eating. The Kong can be used as a pacifier for a dog that likes to chew. However, nothing is indestructable and must be supervised. Again, always get a size bigger than you think your dog needs, especially for Staffie Types/Bull Breeds/other strong jawed dogs. The Kong is also a bouncy toy. Because of it's unique shape, when it is bounced hard down to the ground it will shoot off in different directions, thus your dog has to use it's brain and stay alert ot it will miss getting the Kong. I would say that unless you have a large garden, care is needed when using it outside in an enclosed space, or you may well be spending a lot of time disturbing your neighbours to get the Kong back! It is great fun for your dog though and is a variation on the normal ball

I wanted a product I could leave my dogs with so that they had something to do to keep them amused when I left them on their own, as my older dog seems to suffer from separation anxiety issues and can chew things when left alone. Even "with" my other dog.Armed with one each I filled each Kong up with a smothering of peanut butter and some treats and let them rip. Hoping it wouldn't mean literally. These are not cheap enough toys to be ruined upon first try. Both my dogs are fairly large dogs, a Pointer cross and a Labrador, and both like to chew, so I wasn't sure if these were going to last beyond their first day's testing, which would be a bit painful on my purse if it did. They say these toys were originally developed for the toughest K9 and military dogs, and that the KONG Extreme is the strongest dog toy on the market. I hoped this wasn't just hype.Fortunately, they survived to play another day, even though my dogs love them! In about half an hour all the treats were gone, but they had to work for them! Bouncing them around the floor until they all fell out. Then they retreated to their baskets to lick them clean, and that took another twenty minutes or so. Just enough time for me to nip to the shops and get a few jobs done. When they were finished I did take them away from them in case they felt the urge to chew them, but these are pretty solid things and although they are most likely chewable, they will take some work. All in all I am very happy with these Kong's, as one never knows how long some dog toys are going to last.

When I was looking for some Christmas gifts for my dog, I tried to steer clear of all the rawhide shapes and dog chocolate treats... but everything else seemed so expensive. I've heard so many good reviews about the Kongs, and I did get my dog one when he was a puppy, but when it arrived it was way too small for him so it was never used. My dog is a 21 month old Bullmastiff x Rottweiler who weighs 46kg, he's a big persistent boy with a strong mouth. I've only ever been able to leave bones in his cage with him before, as every other toy/boredom buster has been destroyed within minutes, so I opted for the Giant Extreme XL Kong. I stuffed it with regular dog biscuits and some (dog)chocolate coated biscuits until they were rammed in there and wrapped it up.He grabbed the wrapped up Kong before anything else, and out of all the presents he opened, this was the favourite from the word "go" As soon as it's empty he runs back with it to me, whenever a guest comes to the house he runs and grabs his Kong (not sure why, but it beats over-excited greetings!), and as soon as he gets up he grabs it to bring downstairs. He hasn't left this toy alone and there's still only very faint dents on it even though he's been gnawing for hours in total. 200% worth the money, I'm going to order another 2 or 3 so I can guarantee he'll have enough to keep him occupied when I'm out, and I'm now experimenting with new fillings! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

This is great. I got this to entertain my dog (a 25-kilo lab cross) with treats between meals and for the meals themselves.Meals: If I put my dogs kibble into a bowl, it gets eaten too quickly. This slows my dog down considerably. Instead of one big portion he gets four Kong-fulls of kibble to play with (each Kong-full takes around 2 mins for him to empty). At the moment my dog is not interested in any toys, so I was a bit worried getting this, but, since there is food involved, my dog gets excited every time I pick the Kong up from the shelf. He had not problem working out what to do with the Kong and how to get the food out of it. It's easy for him to hold with one paw whilst getting the kibble out with his tongue. He also drops it on the floor from head height so that the kibble scatters out of it.Treats: I tried using peanut butter, Kong treats, regular dog biscuits - it all works. I suppose, Kong treats are the easiest and quickest. Emptying the Kong takes round 5 mins.PROs: It is very easy to clean, because the rubber is nice and smooth. It's a bit trickier to get the remnants of peanut butter and biscuits out of it, but I use a chopstick to push it out. It's durable. My dog is a chewer and the Extreme Kong has lived up to its title. All the chewing has not left a single mark on the Kong. Finally, there are so many videos on YouTube with suggestions, tutorials and recipes for delicious doggie snacks.

I have 2 Staffordshire Bull Terriers who are 9 and 6 years old. I wanted to find a product that would keep them entertained throughout the day when they were home alone and one that wasn't going to be easy for them to destroy. My 6 year old staffie is somewhat destructive and can destroy any toy in seconds, so I wanted to see if the Kongs would live up to there pretty much indestructible name..........which unfortunately they didn't! Both my dogs LOVED the Kong filled with peanut butter and other treats and it kept them very entertained for hours, but as soon as the filling was empty, my 6 year old staff got bored and decided he would tear it to pieces and this was a pretty easy task for him!It annoyed me that I had brought them these toys and on the first day of them having them, one was already in pieces! My older dog didn't destroy his one so I guess it depends on the nature of your dog. I have ordered another Kong as I want to try and freeze the filling before giving it to them again to prolong the treats coming out, in the hope that this time it will stay in one piece! My advice if your thinking about purchasing this product for a destructible dog is to remember that The Kong is NOT indestructible and if your dog has it for too long, it may be in more than one piece the next time you see it!!

I had to look long and hard for a Kong as I had read too many reviews where peoples' dogs had destroyed their Kong rather quickly and when I buy something, I expect it to last forever. My determined chewer 9 month Border Collie pup has destroyed most of his toys and cost us quite some pennies, so I didn't want a five minute wonder.I was ecstatic it lasted more than a day, and now a couple months down the line, it's perfectly in one piece and no signs of teeth marks.. I would ego so far as to say it's one of his favourite toys (it's a toss up between this and the Kong squeaking Tennis ball which again is a miracle it hasn't burst but I have to control this toy as its useful to distract him on walks etc when seeing other dogs etc).I cram the Kong with pate, peanut butter, cooked chicken etc which will entertain him for at least an hour or sometimes give it him empty which he loves playing with as it has plenty of bounce.Rightly so, it's not as big as it sounds being called a Large, but I think it's the perfect size - no jaws have got stuck in this house and nor does it look possible as some others have complained about. It also smells very strong of rubber, so when I hide it, my dog can sniff it out quickly.I cannot recommend this toy enough. 5/5!

Well, I cant complain, it mustva lasted getting on for two yrs but he was never allowed it to play with on his own. The reason being, last week I got some unexpected visitors and we were out in the yard playing FETCH, well, I was throwing it the dog was fetching it. Now I must point out that altho this is advertised as a massively STRONG dog toy, the dog in question who plays with it is merely a jack russel.Getting back to my story, as they were bringing a brand new baby to meet me I thought it might be good practice to put my dogs into another room until the baby was safely on top of my dinning table. Id say all of about 5 mins MAX and then I let the dogs through to greet my visitors and be introduced to the baby safely. All going well so far,or so I thought. This is the MEGA STRONG KONG TOY my jack russel brought to me, take a look at the foto. The moral of my story is, that although you are warned never to leave your dog alone with a toy, on occasion it does happen and the results of which can be expensive! We are playing with the smaller part, which is still on the rope for now but, it wont be long before it will have to be replaced. It has been a good strong toy as long as you are ALWAYS on your guard!

First saw a Kong in about maybe 1993. Now back then this is all "Kong" meant. It was a weird shaped dog toy that bounced in random directions. Kong wasnt a brand of numerous dog toys as it is today. I still have the said 1993 Kong. Like red cars it has faded with time but is exactly the same as they are today - as far as I can tell. So why have I bought more (3 as it happens), well when I leave Dylan at home I fill them with this and that (left overs, tuna, ham, peanut butter, cheese, etc) then freeze them. Each Kong (and Dylan is the Kong de-stuffing Queen (yes, I know, Dylan is generally a boys name)) takes her about 20 minutes. So when I go to work she has 3 frozen kongs stuffed with raw meat and veg (she is on the BARF diet).Upon my return all Kongs are empty and in the same condition they were when I left. Now the black "extreme" ones... I'm not sure i can tell the difference between those and the red ones. They feel a bit stiffer to squeeze - but I am comparing with one 20 years old!!!! They seem to have just as much space inside for food which was the main thing for me. Definitely worth the money, and I paid just over a fiver for mine, so don't pay high street hiked up prices have a look on here.

Having a German Shepard cross husky I decided to get one of these when we first got our dog. For the first few months she loved it, playing both indoors and outdoors with it, before one day it disappeared. After a few months of trying other toys I decided to buy a new one, nothing else could stand her chewing for more than a few days.Tonight I thought I had better cut the grass as it had gotten rather long. Half way through something got caught, banging and clattering before forcing the mower to cut out. Having seen toys (or what remained) go through before I knew I was going to be pulling what was left of another child's/dogs toy out of the underside. Moving the mower showed nothing but grass,so I removed the grass box to see a large piece of black rubber amongst the cuttings. I reached in to find it wasn't part of the Kong, but the entire thing in one piece. After cleaning it of grass cuttings I was amazed to find it in one piece with nothing but a few scuffs and scratches on it.So after not only testing it with a powerful chewer but also a high brand lawnmower I can not recommend this item enough, it will take punishment like no other dog toy on the market, and still ask for more.

Cannot believe that I have been searching for months trying to find a dog toy that is 'Border Terrier' proof!I have spent a fortune on so-called "STRONG DOG PLAY TOYS" - they seem to last but a few hours before my Borders would be leaving their customary deposits of cotton threads scattered from room to room. The 'KONG' dog toy is the answer to all of you out there, at their wits end trying to find something that those 'teeth' cannot split, break, chew. If you enjoy spending hours throwing the Kong up the garden, from room to room, then this is the toy for your beloved four legged friend! Ours have been playing with it ALL DAY, it can be found at all times either in their mouth - begging the owner, yet again, to throw it for them, OR very close to their face and feet - always waiting for the next 'human' to try and take it off them - hence starting the next 'game'. Believe me the game can go on for hours. Because of the shape of the Kong, it is unpredictable where it lands, therefore all the more fun. GREAT PRODUCT, A MUST TO BUY, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. WORTH EVERY PENNY. Item arrived very quickly - still not a toothmark on it after a month. Best toy I HAVE EVER BOUGHT FOR MY DOGS!!!

We have had one of these for nearly 2 yrs, its for my jack russel who destroys EVERYTHING - toys that is.We play fetch with it and he is never allowed it on his own - that is until we received some unexpected guests with a newborn baby and my jack russel has never seen anything so small. For the sake of safety I put my dogs in the other room until my guests got in the house and placed the baby, in her seat, up on the table away from harms way (potential harms way).I then let my dogs thru to greet my visitors probably no more than FIVE mins after they arrived. You can see by the foto what I was greeted with and I cant say I was happy about it.To be fair, all toys state that they should not be left alone with animals, however, I HAVE to say this KONG TOY has lasted us well. It is is THIRD KONG toy but I guess I just bought the wrong ones before this one.The moral is, DONT leave your dog alone with a toy that you know they will chew, albeit only five minutes.THIS IS A GOOD TOY, so anyone out there who is looking for something to throw for your dog, who is a chewer on his return journey, then this really would be a good buy just DONT LEAVE YOUR DOG UNATTENDED EVEN FOR 5 MINS.
