Muddy Paws Stormguard & Fleece Dog Coat LARGE in RedThis dog coat is very well made, is light weight yet warm, and is shower proof (although to date not tested that, but will update when I have). The design of the coat provides better protection than other designs that are on the market. This is especially important for the shorter legged dogs, as when they trot along, the wet splashes up more on to their underside. It is easy to put on, just slip the front over the dog's head, smooth the back of the jacket over the dog, then the under tummy part fixes with velcro up over the back of the coat to keep it in place. There are also elastic leg straps each side at the back which are popper fixed. They are a little tight on my small Border Collie however, as we all know, in use, elastic loosens up. If you didn't want to wait for it to ease a little with use, you could always gently stretch it whilst running the iron over it at very low temperature. My other dog has a coat that does not have these rear leg straps and without this addition, the coats just do not fit as well. So, persevere with the elastic straps so that the coat does the best job in keeping your friend warm and protected. This dog jacket has a fold back collar which could be left unfolded to protect more of the neck and lower head if the weather is really bad. There is a useful slit for the lead to go through, but remember this is only to attach a lead to a collar and not to a harness. Having said that, "Maisy", my little Collie who I have purchased this jacket for, has a harness and I found that it was still just about ok to use this slit.In respect of using a harness for your doggy friend, I often just alter the harness adjustment and then put the harness on over the doggy coat (see photos below). The Red is a nice warm colour and not quite as pillar box bright as it appears in the photo. It is still a very nice cheery colour though, as you will see from my photos.I have seen the Blue in a shop and it is most certainly not a true Blue, it is more of a bluish Gun Metal Grey and very dull. It would look ok on a dog that has a very light coat (white, blonde or even golden). In respect of the Doggy Coat, if you get the one you see here on "Maisy", I would get the biggest size as they do come up quite small. "Maisy" measures 20" from collar to base of tail and her coat that you see her wearing is a LARGE. Her collar size is 13" approx. She weigh approx. 14 kilos.I liked it so much that I got one for my other dog. "Amber's" one is size Extra Large and she measures just under 27" from collar to the base of her tail. Her collar size is 16" approx. "Amber" weighs approx. 22 kilos. Photo added of her to give idea of her shape etc.Excellent price on Amazon and would thoroughly recommend this for your best friend.UPDATE - "Maisy" has worn this a few times now and has not worried about the elastic that goes round the legs so obviously it is not too tight, or knowing her, she would be walking 'odd' or biting at it. The coat is a huge success at keeping her warm, the last 2 days have been sooooooooo cold, but when we get home after our walk and take the jacket off, her back is really, really warm.UPDATE 04.04.13.Have since laundered this jacket and it came up as good as new. Also, it is not tear proof. Maisy must have been rooting about in the undergrowth, because I notice there are 2 little tears on the outer fabric. Definitely shower proof, in fact pretty well waterproof.UPDATE 03.01.16.I am pleased to say that the little tears have not enlarged, so that is good. ALSO, in respect of the elastic leg straps, I notice that the elastic is sewn in, there are no poppers now. So, you will have to lift the dogs leg in order to use the leg retainers. I was looking at the coats in a shop just this week. The rest of the styling is the same though. This Winter has been particularly wet and even in heavy rain I have not found the coat to get completely wet. The dogs have still been dry on their backs when the coats have been removed.

This coat is superb. Better than any other I’ve owned before. So my little chaps old coat had fallen apart and the Velcro was no longer sticking so I went looking for a replacement. I came across this and based on the excellent reviews I ordered it. I’m so thrilled. It’s an excellent fit , I ordered medium for my Shih Tzu . I wanted one that was a little long to cover his tail and this is perfect. The measurements are exactly as advertised. The coat goes over his head and then the chest cover slips between the front legs and Velcro’s over the top. Then there are little Velcro straps that fit round the back legs. In fairness you wouldn’t necessarily have to use these but it does keep the coat central. If these did come off they would be easy to sew on some more. I found it really easy to put on him. There is a hole under the collar for a neck lead and a zipped hole lower down for use if your pooch wears a harness. It’s in exactly the right place for a harness as that’s what we use. I absolutely love the fact that the Velcro waist strap is on top of the dog. Much easier to secure and it doesn’t get all muddy and full of grass and twigs. I also love the chest cover as it keeps most of the tummy clean. This only arrived today and as luck would have it it was throwing it down with rain when we went for his afternoon walk. My little lad stayed dry and much cleaner than he would have done so no bath needed when we got home ( one very happy dog) .I just gave him a wipe down on his legs. I gave the coat a wipe down too and that’s all it needed . It can be washed on a cool wash if required. The coat is fleece lined so will be fab in the winter. I’ve inspected the stitching and the way it’s been put together and it’s very well made and I can’t see any potential weaknesses. The highlight edging will be great in the winter too for making him more visible in the dark. I really cant find fault with this coat and I’m so pleased I ordered it. I will be telling all my friends so they can kit out their pooches too.

I ordered the large size for my small Springer based on other people's reviews but worried that it would be too big. Happily, it is a perfect fit - I would recommend the large size for similar sized dogs.Having never worn a coat before, I wasn't sure how my dog would react to it, but she loves it, and now eagerly thrusts her head through the opening when I hold it out to her. The front panel feeds easily between her legs and the wide velco fastening around the body keeps it nicely in place while out and about. The coat allows free, easy movement. The only vaguely inconvenient feature is the elasticated straps on the rear legs. Although they help keep the coat in the right position, there's no popper to undo them so you do need to physically lift your dog's feet up and through them. This isn't a big deal on the way out, but taking the coat off after a walk can leave your hands pretty wet and mucky!Having been clipped pretty short recently, the coat keeps my dog lovely and warm on colder winter days, and the section under her body between the front legs helps keep her tummy a bit cleaner, too.The reflective piping helps me keep track of her when she's off the lead on dark mornings - shines up a treat in torchlight.I like the idea of the neck flap, but in practice the dog's movement tends to make it stand up rather than lie flat in the forward position, so I'm not sure that it actually adds anything to the coat's performance. The coat air-dries quickly between walks. Surface grime wipes off easily, but I've stuck it in the washing machine (just on a quick rinse and spin cycle) a couple of times just to do a more thorough job. Over time, I think mud stains will probably not wash off completely, but that's to be expected. The inside fleece lining hasn't started to pill yet, and still feels soft, smooth and warm. This is my first experience of any kind of dog coat, but I would recommend it.

I have bought 2 of these costs recently for my boxer girls. They are well made but I have yet to see if they survive the boxer test which is pretty tough. A different Ancol jacket only lasted 4 months!! Usually if anything "goes" the stud fastening used to hold the elastic come off but that's not too bad as most dogs don't like the elastic anyway. The reflective tape around the coat shows up really well in the dark and is a nice trim during the day.The waterproof outer is great and if a little mud should get on it a quick wipe with a damp cloth works well. The fleece inside is lovely and warm on those chilly days so the combo is really good. The jacket is very easy to put on,over the head and the chest strap goes between the front legs and then Velcro over the back.My one issue is with the sizing of these jackets. I measured both of my girls and they were both size XL. Now one jacket fitted perfectly, on my more muscular girl, she's bigger around the shoulders. However on my other girl I would have been better getting a size smaller probably but then the coat would have been too short. The issue is in the sizing around the shoulders, if the dog is big enough the jacket is fine. If however your dog is long enough in the back but finer in the shoulders the head hole slides down the back and the coat is too long. My solution was to just catch the neck hole with a couple of stitches to make the hole smaller and stop the coat sliding down but not everyone wants to do that. This would not be the jacket for a long backed, broad chested, narrow waisted dogs, as the jackets get bigger so do the waist bands( no measurements given).

i think this is an excellent product, well worth the money looks fab on,has full chest protection, which means ur dog will be dry underneath which is brilliant for me,the coat is very warm on,and material looks very wate5rproof,excellent keeps on without sliding off ur dog ,also has the wider velcro that keeps it on ur dog along with the added elastic to keep it in place at the legs, the customer service ive had has been really helpful to myself,as ive had to sent 3 coats back, and i read the comments thats others had wrote to which size to get.... i phoned them and they helped me ,and went out their way to find me the proper sizes...i think dogs of the same breed can be bigger or wider thanothers,so my oldest is lab but is 23kilos...so the xxlarge was massive on her,it was away down by her knees,so i think maybe puttin dogs width n weight as well on reviews might be helpful to others thanx so much for all ur help ..ive just received my new coats yesterday after having help from muddypaws..the xlarge fitted my oldest dog,but leg straps were bit tight, but i think might slack in time, the large fitted my puppy,i took them out in pourin rain n wind, they looked soaked, but when i got them in the house underneath the coat bone dry and really warm,so theve past the test of keepin them dry, also the reflective strips are really good as well, now im washin them as they were rollin about the field playin running and their coats stayed on no matter what they were doin..lets see if the waterproof on them stays after being washed now .

My dog’s old coat had become quite worn out so was looking for a reasonably priced replacement when I came across this. The good things about this coat are: it’s waterproof (have taken the dog out in heavy rain and has kept him dry), it has a small hole at the top and also a zipped opening which accommodates different types of harnesses (the lead attachment on our harness is quite high up so we are using the top hole), it’s lightweight but seemingly warm as it has a fleecy inner lining. The coat fits quite well. I initially ordered the XXL size on the basis that it recommends this size for Labs and German Shepherds (our dog is s Collie x Lab and is quite long and tall) but this was too big and loose.Requested a refund and ordered the one size down which fits great. The only small downside is that for the coat to stay on properly, you need to use the leg straps (elastic) which my dog is not a huge fan of (he finds it weird but it does not seem to impair his walking or running in anyway and once out on the walk he seems to forget about it) and if the dog gets wet and muddy then getting the coat off becomes a bit of an icky process - apart from this, very satisfied. Also, it’s worth noting that the blue is more of a grey/midnight blue (see my photo), rather than the bright blue shown in the picture - however I think the actual colour is better that the advertised colour as I was a bit worried that mud would show very easily on the light coloured material.

I love this little coat. More importantly so does my Staffy. They're not the furriest furries around, so when it got really cold this winter I decided to get her a coat. She loves it, and it keeps her body nice and warm when we're out which means the rest of her warms up much faster when we get home. She'd never had a coat before, but when I got it out of the packet, she popped her head straight through the hole (not sure how she knew to do that), so I did it all up and she was ready to rock. She was even OK with the elastic that goes around the back legs to hold it in place. My only criticism, and it's fairly minor,is that it sits a bit further down the back of her neck than I would like as it means all the back of her neck is exposed when that bit could be warm too - and the 'collar' bit at the back really doesn't help in that regard. The fact that it sits low there, means that it seems to sit too far down her body at the bum end too. However those are small criticisms really, because in general it fits her well, is pretty waterproof, and keeps the trunk of her body warm even when it's snowing. So all in all, result. The only other thing to say is, if your dog is a big chunky around the middle...this might make them feel a bit self conscious about their figure hahaha. But that's OK...the weather is getting better (apparently) - we will shed the extra winter pounds when we can start putting the mileage in again.

I bought this coat in size small for my pug and it has just arrived. The fleece lining is nice and cosy but it is a lot thinner than the picture on the website makes it look. The blue is a dark navy and nothing like the royal blue in the picture, and the reflective edging is darkish grey, so the overall look is a lot duller than I was expecting. The head-hole is also quite tight to get over my dog's head!I measured my dog and all his other coats before deciding which size to order. All measurements suggested that size Small should be fine. The dimensions are listed in the description as "38.8 x 25.2 x 6.8 cm" therefore I assumed that the back length would be 38.8cm. The back length is actually only 31cm,as the measurement given includes the padded collar (which is heavily padded for some reason & can be turned up to give some neck warmth). The coat is therefore a little short on my dog, but I think the next size up would be too baggy elsewhere.Pugs are quite round-chested so the belly strap only just fits (there are 2 strips of velcro, so the maximum circumference would be about 58cm but it may be at danger of popping open at this length as not much overlap). It looks smart and practical (not like you've dressed your dog up in human clothes) and should add warmth so I'm pleased with my purchase, but the sizing needs to be better explained as it is misleading.

We have a Weimaraner who is very active, likes rolling frequently and is small for her breed. We have tried dog coats which either fall apart because the velcro pads aren't double stitched, way too complicated to put on (especially first thing in the morning), have zips which stick and frustrate me when madam steps out of the leg holes, have elastic straps for legs that come too close together on her privates to be comfortable plus they break OR they rub against the fur leaving a potential skin infection risk (long haired dogs may be fine). They all hit the wallet for very little benefit to us or our dog. This coat is excellent. A must buy. Simple to put on, robust enough for energetic dogs and no rubbing in odd places. It keeps her coat mud-free and even protects her chest mostly which is a bonus!. The price is excellent. The elastic straps are well situated. The design means that it is suitable for the breed with their long, lean, large barrelled bodies and extra large is a perfect fit for a small weimaraner approaching 2 years old. The only possible quibble I have is that the colour does not look true to the screen. A happy quibble as I was put off by the bright blue but actually it is more of a navy grey which looks stunning on her. I'll buy this in red and just cannot praise it enough.

This is a lovely coat, beautifully soft and light but waterproof. I chose it especially because it has the chest and part tummy protection. I chose XL as it stated on the site size chart that XL is the recommended size for a setter, which Ailsa is and when I measured her from collar to tail the size seemed okay - however when it arrived (quicker than stated) it is a little bit shorter along her back than I would have liked - however I think if I had ordered the XXL it would have been too big and baggy around the chest area as she is quite narrow shouldered, but rather long in the body - I luckily am handy with a sewing machine and so I am going to add a bit to the length by using a bit ofwaterproof material I have. But do be careful about measuring carefully and if your dog seems to be in-between sizes I would suggest going for the bigger size, to be sure the length is correct. I think it would be really good if there was a choice of length (with the same chest size), so it would be easy to get the right length without having to have a broader chest size - but hey ! for the price and quality of the coat, this really is great value, I'm really pleased with it and Ailsa seems quite comfortable in it, she can run around and it stays perfectly in place.

First of all as I ordered this with another product I could avail of standard free delivery to Ireland. The estimated date was the 4th of February (which I thought was fairly long anyway) but a day after I ordered it my estimated delivery date changed to 27th of February (tomorrow) and it actually arrived this morning absolutely delighted!!I was reading everyone's comments on this coat but was unsure of the size to get because people were saying one thing and the measurements said another and my dog has as I'd imagine quite a small back for a golden retriever(nearly 23inches).The size guide says XL size up to 24 inches so I went with that. When I took it out of the packaging its a lovely warm coat and I thought it looked like it cost way more than it did! Quality!! I automatically assumed it was way too small but when I tried it on him it was just right. It's very easy to put on and my dog is crazyyy and doesn't listen so trust me haha you put his head in through the hole, bring the chest piece under him and strap it around his back, very simple. There are also leg straps on the back of a jacket which go around the back legs which makes the jacket look fitted. Great coat great price

great warm coats for winter- easy to slip on over the head. I note there are elastic parts which can be used to hold the back firmly in place over back legs but I do not use them. My dog hates messing around and therefor the simple over head and fasten around the middle is great. Could wish my dog was just a fraction slimmer or the band just a wee bit more generous on velcro fit. I bought small for two small dogs, one fits beautifully the skinnier dog, the bigger sister could take the next size up possibly but having seen it on a friend's do I suspect we bought the right size because it would have been too long over her back,This coat is warm rainproof and lovely on and the price is very good.Like the collar space for the lead and the zip back for a harness tethering. Excellent coat- excellent valueMany months later-Sadly bought the medium size for my growing dog and the darned thing just does not fit properly- I my have to change the shoulder fitting or cut an inch off the length because it does not stay in place or interferes with the tail - I wish there were an inbetween size for awkward dogs!!

This is a great product! Easy to get dog in and out of, seems to be effective in wet drizzle conditions, easy to machine wash, I’d recommend this product for an ave Cockspoo sized dog, please be aware , out of personal choice only I don’t use the adjustable elasticated band round the rear legs as she gets so excited so it’s was difficult to get her to stand quietly while I put them on. so I created an extra, simple two inch wide band which is adjustable, with Velcro ( I know this sounds awkward, but it’s not, ) just to secure the rear of the jacket in very high winds and particularly when the winds are behind us when walking ! this little design addition makes it far easier to get her in and out of the jacket !If she goes through dense foliage I take it off as I’ve lost two already?? This band is much easier to put on and remove than the adjustable bands for the rear legs anyway! I intend buying another as she loves her cozy red jacket!! Please don’t be put off by the rear straps thing it’s just my solution to my jumpy dog ?? I’m sure you will be able to get the straps on your dog no problem .

This is a good coat for rainy or quite chilly days, but it is lightweight, so if you don't use the elastic leg straps (which we don't as Dalmatian hates them), then it will slip to one side and the back will fly up if windy.I've bought a cashmere snood on sale and lined this coat with that so it is more weighted down and much warmer. Some dogs don't have undercoats, or oil in their coats like Dalmatians, so they do need winter protection if it's freezing cold. Our other 5 dogs, Labs, collies, Goldens etc, don't need coats (although working dogs, who have to endure long hours in pouring rain, should have protection). This coat would not be adequate for that.It is quick and easy to put on,the velcro chest strap stays done up very securely and it offer some chest protection although the sides don't come down quite low enough on the chest sides for a deep chested dog like a Dalmatian or a Greyhound. It does allow excellent front leg movement though. It looks extremely smart and washes well. Good value for what it is. My full-grown female Dalmatian wears a 22 inch coat which is a good fit.

Lovely coat, nicely made, lovely style with the chest piece going underneath and protecting the dogs chest and belly - ideal for a short legged dog like my Westie, or bare chested dog like a whippet. I had one of these already for my lurcher, except his has a silky lining. It has worn, washed and lasted very well, so I'm sure this one will too. Very easy to put on; just slip over the dog's head, bring the chest piece through the front legs, and fasten around the waist with the adjustable velcro.Bought for my elderly Westie who has just had a short clip. I would have given it 4 stars, but the sizing is bizarre - the smaller sizes have 5cm/2" difference between them, but from small to medium and above, there is a 10cm/4" difference in the sizes, which is way too much - that is how horse rugs are sized, so not proportional for dogs. I got my Westie a medium, but it is a bit too big, but the small is so different it would be way too small. If the sizing was consistent with a 5cm/2" difference between the small and medium, it would have been the perfect fit.
