I have a 27kg crossbreed with approx Labrador/Golden Retriever size feet. He is from Romania and due to the abuse he suffered there, he has 3 permanently dislocated toes on his back leg which cause his foot to be splayed and he walks a bit on the side of his footpad. He suffers no pain from it - he allows me to play with the foot and walks on it perfectly fine when the ground is soft. However, when he is moving faster than a walk on hard ground, the impact of his foot hitting the ground is uncomfortable for him and he recently stopped using the foot altogether on hard ground, thereby causing a bit of muscle wastage. In order to find a solution that was not medication related (he has been on Metacam for a while and I am desperate to get him off it),I thought about buying a boot for him. As I did not want to spend too much money what with it being a trial and error exercise, I opted for the cheapest one I could find and came across these.I bought the Large size for him and it fits perfectly! The stretchy fabric is good and they are easy to put on with straps that tighten effectively and do not loosen while walking (and we walk a lot!). He "scrats" a lot after he does his business and even this does not loosen the straps or cause the boot to slip. And best of all, HE IS USING HIS LEG AGAIN! He is now a much happier dog :)Given the cost of the boots and the frequency I will be using them, I do not expect them to last forever. However, if you want something for infrequent use, short term fix or for just trying out a boot for sizing/practicality reasons then these are the ones to buy! Delivery was fast too. As he only uses one at a time, I will wait till both have worn out before I buy a more substantial pair now I know they work and what size he is.I haven't used them in the rain yet but we went on some damp ground and they kept his foot dry. I would suspect the neoprene fabric will not keep out much water if being used for open wound protection but they are great as support/general foot protection.(For anyone who is having issues with slipping, etc...I make the straps really tight and make sure his foot is as far into the boot as it will go).

I bought these for my mum's dog, A 3 year old male Shi Tzu, who she has kindly re-homed after the previous owners could no longer look after due to the arrival of a new baby. The dog has an issue with his front paws, which result in him dragging his claws when he walks any distance, resulting in them being worn down to the quick and bleeding as a result. This is a chronic problem and will not improve, so hence the purchase of the boots.Initially, I bought the medium size, but these proved to be too big, so went to the small size, which proved to be a better fit. The fitting around the legs is still a bit too generous for smaller dogs, meaning that you have to get the Velcro strap really tight to hold the boots in place, especially if you have a dog that drags the front of his/her paws on the ground. These boots are really meant for indoor use or on grass and will wear out very quickly on paved areas. My mum has found a way round this , by putting a couple of layers of reinforced duck tape or similar, on the toe area and changing it as soon as it wears. This means that the boots last a few weeks rather than days and 'Gizzy' the dog is able to enjoy walks again without injuring his claws. The boots are light enough that they do not seem to hinder his progress at all when chasing around like a lunatic!! We did try the reinforced Trixie boots, but they just would not stay on for any length of time and did cause the dog to stumble occasionally, but would probably work better on bigger breeds. It is really going to depend on the individual dog if they tolerate these boots or not, but in our case he just does not seem to bother about them and is quite happy to let you put them on.I have added a link to the sizing guide on the comments page. It is a pdf page which you should print out on A4 paper.

I was very sceptical about these bootees, however, they are absolutely brilliant!! We have a 43kg Spanish Mastin (similar in size to a large GSD) so ordered the XL. She cut her large paw pad quite badly a few days ago so off to the vet - cleaned, antibiotics, etc, and also supplied with a neoprene bootee to prevent licking and further infection.I bought these in addition so we could swap them over when one got dirty and to keep her wound clean. They’re actually so good they’re better than the one supplied by the vet!I’m just back from a 2hr walk - she was off lead - and across muddy fields, grass, straw and then a dip in the river! The bootee STAYED ON the whole walk and didn’t need adjusted once!Couldn’t believe it as she loves to run, jump, play, etc - I fully expected to return home minus the bootee.I think if you’re walking on wet grass/pavements the plastic base would keep a paw dry - but not if your dog is partial to running full pelt through the river! The bootee is a mixture of plastic and neoprene with two large Velcro straps which secure it at the top. There are two in the box so perfect to keep one for walking and one for in the house. She has tried to nibble it off too - and has stayed put. This item is a massive help to stop her licking her cut paw and help heal the wound quicker. Very pleased and definitely worth every penny (btw the one supplied by the vet was £20 for ONE bootee, and these are far superior). It washes up fab and dries overnight. Highly recommend these bootees.

Our lab bitch had a bad cut to her rear pad, which failed to heal and had to be stitched. These boots worked really well once the vets bandages came off, and we were able to take her for walks again. We bought the large to begin with, and they were a bit too big, but the way the boot fastens around the leg meant it stayed in place,it just got a bit scuffed, but still worked okay, and so we found that the medium was a better fit. ( Our girl is a 33kg show type with sturdy legs and feet)The boot being a soft neoprene means they are really flexible and mould to the dogs foot shape, and in our case, she forgot very quickly that she was wearing anything at all. They are easily washed, (we turned them inside out as our walks are often wet and muddy) to make sure they were properly clean with no gritty bits loitering inside, and have survived some mixed walks. They don't keep the foot totally dry, but in our case protection from dirt and grit was more important, and her foot was still clean when the boot was taken off, and damp as opposed to wet through. We had 2 pairs, so we were able to wash one after each walk.I now keep them in the medicine box just in case.We first used this make of boot 20 years ago, and have tried other, more modern ( and expensive!) styles. If you want a serviceable and sensible protective shoe, with no silly nonsense, these work very well.

My 6 month old golden retriever got a very nasty and deep gash on the paw and it was stitched and kept bandaged for a couple of weeks. We all nearly went mad because he could not go for his walks and he went a bit stir crazy. Even letting him out to the garden for toilet breaks was a problem, trying to keep the bandaging dry. Initially I used plastic bags and elastics to keep the foot dry while he was outside but the bags did not last long. Then I used duct tape to wrap a strong plastic bag, making a pretty durable boot that each lasted a couple of days. Finally I got a pair of these and they worked a treat. Not waterproof, so I used a small plastic bag as a waterproof liner when walking in wet weather. Then gradually reduced their use and returned to more walking on hard instead of soft surfaces as his paw recovered.I got the size recommended for adult goldens, to allow for the bandaging. The boot was too big when the bandaging came off, but each boot has two long velcro straps that wrap around the paw to secure the boot, so they still stayed on pretty well. This "care" model is not very durable. But my main concern was to protect and not irritate the injured paw, so I didn't mind that. In fact there is still a bit of wear left in them. Touch wood that they will not be needed. My only regret with this purchase is that I did not spot and buy them sooner.

I bought these boots after my poor Westie injured his back paw pad. As any dog owner will know, healing a paw pad is extremely difficult and challenging. These boots are an absolute life saver!I bought the Small size for my 5 yr old Westie which over a light dressing gives a perfect fit.I do suggest these boots are used mainly for indoor wear and short trips outside as in my opinion they are not hard wearing enough for long walks on rough/hard surfaces and they are definitely not waterproof. They are extremely good value for money as you get two boots in the packet. They are made from a lightweight neoprene type material with slightly rubberised ends that allow for a bit of grip especially on wooden floors. These boots are very easy to put on, basically pull on like a pair of socks. They stay on the leg with a thin wrap around velcro strap to keep the boot securely in place (I did end up trimming the strap with a pair of scissors as I found it was a little bit too long once fastened). They are easy to wash by hand in warm soapy water and they dry very quickly on a radiator.I have been using these boots on my dog continuously now for a number of days and I am very happy with them.I will definitely be buying more of these boots and highly recommend them, especially if your dog is prone to licking or nibbling wounds or stitches.

I bought these for my black lab which had injured his paw. The vet put a bandage on but needless to say this did not stay on for long. I bought the boots to try and protect his paw from infection. I found that they worked quite well. The first time I used one of the boots, it came off. Luckily the dog was on the lead at the time, so I saw the boot coming off and didn't lose it. It came off because I didn't put it on tightly enough. After that I ensured that it was on properly and it did not come off again, even when the dog was charging around in the woods, off the lead. The dog soon got used to wearing a boot and it didn't seem to bother him so we will continue using it until his paw is completely healed. We don't intend to continue using the boots all the time, so I am not able to comment on how long they they will last. We will just use one of them if the dog has any further problems with his paw or perhaps if it snows. One minor problem was that although the boots didn't come off if they were properly fastened, they were inclined to twist around so that the sole of the boot ended up on the top of his paw and the upper part of the boot ended up under his paw. However, the dog didn't seem to mind this and he could still walk in them. All in all, a useful product.

Arrived quick and well made nice quality etc. You get two boots in a pack. I bought the large for a Westie/ Maltipoo, but on hindsight a medium would have been better fit. Once you have bandaged the paw if a wound then may take up the slack, so only choose a med if still going to be roomy etc. Straps fit top and middle of paw and stay on tight with velcro fastenings and unless you dog is a like Houdini and keeps pulling at it then stays on. Comfortable once on and although my dog did this pathetic flip flop flippers walk at first, it's funny how quick she walked naturally on it when waved a treat at her. lol Very pleased and stops the dog licking at the wound or getting paw wound dirty or sore made worse by walking on gravel or pavement. Can sponge wash clean or soak in mild liquid soap detergent. Pat dry with towel rather than wring out so keeps shape. Dry pegged up by velcro near rad not on rad or outside etc. Really stays on if you fit on right. Once dog gets used to them it wont take much notice and leave alone. I'd advise bit of a dressing on paw if sore or inside boot will rub on wound as walk or run, like carpet burn etc. Get those stretch self cling bandages over a bit of dressing pad. Much easier than tied knots in other bandages.

I think perhaps I expected too much from these boots. My large (plus 40 kilo's)German Shepherd has a degenerative condition and drags his feet, wearing down his claws until they bleed and I try to walk him as much and for as long as possible to try to avoid him losing muscle in his legs. I walk him in the Forestry Commission woods on rough, stoney paths and so he wears down his boots very quickly. Generally, a pair will last about 8 to 10 hours walking but I have little doubt that on easier terrain and/or worn by a lighter dog they would last much longer. I will keep buying them because they are very easy to put on and seem to be comfortable for him to wear. I put them on his front feet which drag less than the back ones.I use the other Walker boots (Walker Active) on his hind feet as they are much sturdier but, I suspect, less comfortable. To be absolutely fair to the boots under review, for a dog recovering from an injury and walking indoors, on smooth paving or on grass I would certainly recommend the Trixie boots, also for a lighter dog. As it is, I will continue to purchase the Trixie boots for my GSD's front feet and patch them when I can to try to get the best possible use from them.

I'd put 3.5 stars if I could. Definitely the best solution I've found but by no means perfect. My Reggie is a 2-yr old collie / boxer cross with boundless energy - he can keep up with a car at 30mph, so enforced inactivity is not his thing. Badly cut paw, he has pulled his stitches out; the vet's wonderful bandages and dressings last about an hour and I won't use that Buster collar thing, not least because he can't even drink with it on, hardly get through doors, the whole bit. After various attempts with elastoplast and gaffer tape I got a pair of these. The vet doesn't like them because the dog's feet sweat inside and if it's wet the wound won't heal, but that's better than unprotected in the mud and dust.He doesn't chew unless and until it starts to disintegrate, which it did after about four days. So two mediums for £6 is not a bad deal, less than £1 a day, and while they're still in one piece they work. Just don't expect them to last. I have it on him the whole time because anything else he'll just chew off. I haven't walked him but he does occasionally do bonkers running round the garden and they stand up to that - for a while.

I bought this for my ageing Cocker Spaniel as he spends most of his time indoors and has a really difficult time getting to his feet or even keeping his footing on the tile or laminate wooden flooring. I bought a ‘Large’ and I think they fit well though I couldn’t say if a size smaller would have been better or worse. Placing them on his feet takes a bit of effort to ensure his foot his fully in while I secure the straps tightly, as they will begin to slip loose otherwise. In the end I am quite happy with this product despite only light use so far, though he won’t wear these as outdoor shoes outside of instances where he wanders out the back door,so refer to other reviews for the quality and durability in those cases - though in my opinion, I can well imagine why these might fall apart after some use on rough terrain.I bought bought two pairs initially but settled in only needing a single pair for the front paws as I feel they did sufficient job for what I needed.

My dog has a skin condition on her front feet which means that I have to keep them clean and she cannot be walked without boots on.Until I started using boots my dog was always suffering with blisters and raw infected patches on her front feet. She was almost continually on antibiotics.Having tried a few different types of boots, these are much the best. They stay on well (provided you pick the right size for your dog's feet), they're not too heavy, they're easy to put on and my dog obviously finds them comfortable. They keep any dirt and grit out very effectively but aren't waterproof. My one criticism of these boots would be that they don't last very long.I walk my dog twice a day on grass for a maximum of one hour altogether. After about three weeks the boots begin to fall apart and the seams lift. If you walk your dog on paved or rough surfaces, you will find that the boots wear through pretty quickly too.

To be honest I wasn't expecting them to last 5 minutes when they arrived as my dog is very large, very destructive and very determined. I am really really pleased with the product though. Elvis must find the boots comfortable as he has taken no notice at all of it. The sizing is a bit confusing I bought xl but they are too small (we have an American bulldog) so xxl would probably have been better - maybe a clearer sizing guide on the Amazon description page would be useful? As it is though they are doing the job nicely so definitely worth the 5 stars. I was beginning to give up on finding a product to encourage my dog to leave his bandages alone on his injured foot he smashed off hard plastic cones and got round softer ones, these boots were a random panic buy that have definitely come up trumps so thank you!

My twelve-year old labrador, of ebullient character, had been severely handicapped by sterile granuloma for four years, despite the best veterinary treatment, and had latterly been almost crippled by arthritis, again, despite very expensive medication, which he still takes. At first, I was dubious about this pair of boots. Others by the same manufacturer had suede soles, a knitted cuff (which snagged on dewclaws) and one velcro strap. They inverted easily and the toes were soon scuffed through. This model, made of neoprene, with plastic soles, looks more flimsy, but does the job much better, because the two straps are more secure, and the dog has learnt to walk without scuffing the toes. They have transformed his life, and he bounds along again with his old assertive swagger. Excellent value.
