So, after having these for a few months, I feel I can give a reasonable review. I would also be willing to answer any questions!I'm a college professor and my dog, Gary, is a working dog, so I really wanted to be able to protect his feet on campus during the summer because Texas is dangerous for dogs. I also was planning on a hiking trip in Indiana and thought that these shoes could be helpful for that.First, Gary is a 16 lb corgi/terrier mix with the tiniest feet you've ever seen. (Seriously--when I'm hormonal I actually start crying because his feet are so tiny. That's not a weird dog mom thing, right?) I bought the wrong size at first (I think I measured his feet wrong),but returned those and bought the smallest they have. Even so, they're still a little roomy for his tiny, tiny paws. So, although the shoes do come off sometimes while we're walking, I think that has more to do with my dog than the shoes.Gary DID NOT like these shoes at first. Like, at all. But the great thing is that if you visit the company website, they even have instructions for how to get your pup used to wearing shoes. And when they say not to laugh, they mean it. It took a while to convince Gary to even try after the first time I put them on him because I laughed so hard. It was too cute and I couldn't resist, but try to resist. I started him out with just getting used to putting them on and keeping them on for a couple minutes. He got lots of treats for walking like three feet in them. Then we started going down the stairs, then down and back up, then down the stairs and jumping into the car, etc. Finally, we started going to campus and walking to my office in them. He can now do that pretty well.I will admit that Gary will often stop walking and lay down and try to take his shoes off. This is happening less and less and he's getting much more used to wearing them. I finally decided to invest in a pair of the liners that Ruffwear makes and that has MADE SUCH A DIFFERENCE! I know it seems ridiculous to basically buy $14 socks for your dog after buying $70 shoes, but believe me, it's necessary. The first time I put the shoes on Gary with the liners, he was so excited he did a little prancing thing. It was seriously adorable and also made me feel less guilty about putting something on his feet that he hated wearing. I think you have to consider that just like we don't want to wear tennis shoes or boots without socks, so your dog won't either.I haven't had any problems with these falling apart or anything like that. They seem very well made (and should be for the price) and the soles give good traction. I feel like Gary's paws do get a little sweaty with the combination of the shoes and socks, but the mesh on top makes the situation more breathable. I'm super careful to not leave him in his shoes outside for too long when the temp is above 90 because it's just too hot (but it would be even worse without the shoes!), we just walk to my office and take them off, then put them back on again if we leave the office. I'm so glad I found a good way to protect Gary's feet and allow us to go to work everyday even during the summer.(By the way, the pic is from when we first got the shoes--he's definitely not that miserable anymore when wearing them. I need a new photo for this review, but the shoes sure are cute, right?)

I bought these shoes for the sole purpose of not getting my dogs paws burned while walking in our trip. The material doesn't feel flimsy or cheap they never ripped or got a hole from walking in our trip. The shoes felt pretty sturdy and breathable. When we put them on it fit his paws perfectly. The problem was that his legs are too skinny from where you tighten it so they slipped off easily unless we tightened it as much as we could without hurting him. The picture I put was his first day wearing them he wasn't too happy. He didn't know how to stand up with them, tried taking them off and walked like a newborn baby deer. He walked funny at first but on the 2nd day he got used to it as we walked all around Las Vegas (it was 109F)and Laughlin by the Colorado River (it was 115 F when we went). I provided a video of him walking in the shoes. I was skeptical about the ground still being able to burn his paws but when I would check to feel his paws they were not hot at all!!! We also let him swim with the shoes on in the river, so it wouldn't hurt when he would walk on top of the rocks where the shallow area was and he had no problems with it on.Next, I took him to the Grand Canyon and Williams in Arizona (it was 100 F the two days we went) to explore and I noticed his feet were moist from the sweat so I would take it off and carry him but then put them back on once they've dried and he was able to keep walking on them. I would check to see if his paws would get blisters while having it on from walking to the view points but there was no blistering. His paws did not get burned or hurt thanks to these dog booties. I got a lot of compliments on him wearing them he looks so cute and happy in them. Another thing was they did keep slipping off while at the grand canyon but it was because I did not tighten them enough because I thought it would hurt him. I did end up tightening up to wear it shows the shoe size but it didn't hurt him as he was still willing to walk in them and didn't bark or try to take them off. I think it helped that I also used the Mushers secret on his paws before I put the shoes on him just incase the heat from the pavement would go through the shoes but I didn't see any problems. Overall, I do recommend getting these for hot weather. My dog survived walking through the heat without blisters or getting his paws burned. Must get!

I love love love these booties for my dog. The pair I just bought from Amazon was a pair I got for my brother in law's dog. She's a standard poodle living in Boise Idaho and hates the cold winters there as the snow and ice are murder on her feet. These'll take care of that problem for the most part.I've had mine for a few years now. Bought them for my Bouvier Des Flanders and we use them anytime we do any trail running or hiking. It's added protection for her paws that keep them from getting cut up and keep those blasted foxtail weed stickers from getting in her paws and wedging their way into her bloodstream. They're nasty little weeds and they grow all over the place here sun California. One time we pulled 15 of them out of her paw after a hike (some had already penetrated pretty far into her the poor thing.) and that was that. I bought these boots and never had a problem with that again. They're also excellent in the summer time when we walk on asphalt and its super hot on her feet too.A trick I learned from a. blog or someone's comment that I found helpful was to put these on and then let her walk around in them for a few minutes and then stop to tighten them up. This keeps them from popping off on the walk (something you really want to be careful with when walking through the snow or you'll never see them again. I haven't lost one yet. Also the first few times you put them on your dog will probably walk around funny trying to shake them off her feet. Just get the leash on them quick and get walking. She'll get used to it and on the walk not notice them on anymore after awhile. Now my dog doesn't mind them at all even at the start but she's pretty used to me putting them on her.Mine are red and I wish I'd bought the black ones because my dog's black and the red ones really jump out and are kind of obvious. You get a lot of "What the heck are on your dog's feet? Are those shoes?" To which you reply in your head, "No they're tomatoes. We just ran through a tomato garden back there. No they're dog booties!" The black ones on my dog would have been a little less conspicuous but they match her red backpack so it works.Love these. Bought them for my family and would recommend them to anyone. Worth every penny.

They do what they claim, however you have to test and test and adjust to get it right. Wall of text on my view, sorry if I ramble!I took on a 8 mile trip to test them out. Found out the rear feet on my 55lb Kelpie can't use the socks, the boots just slip off. Np though, front works with the socks. I roll the socks down over the boot to keep the socks from slipping off and bunching up. Seemed good. Got to truck and found her dewclaws were rubbed pretty raw even with the socks.Fast forward, next time we used them was on a 75 mile trek, skipped first 2 days and went barefoot b/c it was rainy and ground was soft. Third day, I needed the boots due to some wear on a pad. I bandaid under the dewclaw, then one over the dewclaw, then athletic tape over all that. I felt good, socks on front, not back. About 10 miles in, I noticed her rear leg kinda hopping, upon checking her rear feet, I saw the collar where you cinch it down, (tight to stay on securely) had worn down to skin. I removed the boots. At camp that night, i pulled her front boots off, and the tape job slid down some and the collar again rubbed her dewclaw down badly. I let it air dry the night and put some bandaids and tape for the next day and we went bootless the rest of the week to heal up the dewclaws. So bottom line, test, test, test before a long trip. Get your dogs feet/ankles figured out first. I think if I had a slightly stickier tape to not slide down her hair on her legs, it would have been much better. I'll try again. The rear will be the same, just need to tape up around the collar area of the boot.4 stars b/c they are solid boots and I know my dogs pads are very protected. 1 star off b/c I think they need to be taller for declaw dogs, and with dogs with little to no ankles, maybe some other way to help secure. NOt sure tbh, but if you need rugged boots, just take your time to get the adjustment right.

These booties are worth the price & time it takes to get the right paw measurements. When snuggly closed, they stay on, they bend in the right places, they keep debris out, they work! They aren’t waterproof. They would be good for dry trails on dry days. The only con to these shoes is that they seem like they are not very soft inside. There are rough spots, especially near the Velcro closures which seem like they’d smart, especially after walking for more than 10 mins. Might need lots of breaking in & I’d not recommend wearing these on a long hike straight out of the box. That’s why I highly recommend the matching Ruffwear socks. Another reason is that the socks keep my dog’s dew claw snugly protected.Last, the socks also help with winter wear. They keep the snow out that otherwise gets in. We tested them here in Wisconsin during a blizzard this week. They work. After he got the hang of the concept of shoes (which was quickly), my 6-month old Collie puppy went from stopping every few feet in the cold, to bouncing around in the snow banks. It was a great relief to see. Unfortunately these do not protect from salt & other chemicals. So buyer beware. I went with these shoes instead of the winter shoes because of the reviews that snow tends to get stuck in the neoprene gaiters on those. Considering spending the money on those now, given that my dog’s feet are wet now that the snow is melting & chemicals are mixing with the slush. So, again- I highly recommend these booties with the limitations regarding conditions in mind. Worth your money, paw measurements, and the socks are a must. PS: My dog is a 50-pound smooth Collie with narrow ankles. We ordered a size 3.0 for his front paws and a 2.5 for his back paws. The same for the socks.

Our use:We often camp on a mountain lake with rocky terrain. We have 2 yellow labs that run and play in and out of the water and the rocks are very hard on their pads. I have boots for both dogs. We hike and kayak. Sometimes the dogs are in the kayaks, sometimes they run along the rocky shore next to us.You have to have the socks(boot liners). I first got boots without the socks, and the boot seams rubbed on the sides of my dog's feet causing sore spots. I would not recommend boots without socks and feel they should be sold together. I'm sure the pricing is more attractive separately, but you definitely need them both.Pros:I love these boots! They protect the pads well, and it's actually amusing for me to watch my dogs try to walk in them- or refuse to walk (at first). They boots are easy to get on and they seem comfortable for the dog. They do a great job protecting my dog's paws on the rocky terrain of the mountains in and out of the water. They have a rubber bittom and mesh top. The water drains out nicely and they dry quickly in the sun.Cons:They do fall off. They also sink in water. We got the bright color this time so we could find it easier when/if it came off. I feel like I'm constantly staring at my dog's paws making sure they both have all of their boots. It's a buzz kill for sure as I'd rather be taking in the scenery, not worried about losing a boot. The socks (boot liners) aren't the easiest to put on and they slide down. I've even tried pulling the socks up and folding them over the top of the boot, but they slide down and bunch up in the boot. I feel I need to adjust often. All things considered, they offer good protection, but I wish I could get things to stay in place!

Would you believe I’ve bought 6 pairs of these shoes? 3 pairs each for 2 of my dogs, and finally found both the right fit; paw against the front of the boot and just below the carpal pads. Needless to say, it was a lot of exchanging, but this company had the easiest return-as in-person free returns at Kohl’s was easy (I’d purchased the initial sets from another Amazon seller but had to print out the shipping label and find a UPS store. Wasn’t too hard to exchange either, but just took an extra step). My larger dog measured for size 3 which was way too large and the shoes kept falling off. Subsequently,my smaller dog measured for size 2 and was also too large and kept falling off.-1.75 ended up being the perfect size for my 25 pound Jack Russell terrier/Cattle dog mix after trying sizes 2 and 1.5.-2.25 ended up being the perfect size for my 46 pound Cattle dog mix after trying sizes 3 and 2.5.If you have the patience, I would recommend purchasing at least 2 pairs in different sizes to try around the home.Socks are a must to avoid unnecessary abrasions as both my pups have their dewclaws. I purchased the Ruffwear socks for my little dog, but ended up getting baby socks for my bigger dog (cheaper and cute!). Overall I stuck with the brand because Ruffwear is unbeatable. The quality and durability of these boots are undeniably good, and I also own a float coat made by them.

I purchased these shoes because we do a bit of city and neighborhood walking and unfortunately it's not uncommon to find broken glass on the sidewalk followed up by hypodermic syringes in bushes where he likes to sniff although let's face it, he likes to sniff EVERYTHING. Anyway, I was tired of getting anxious about the glass, etc. on what was once an enjoyable walk so I splurged and bought these (and because they also match my Vibrams which is hysterical to me).The first day in his first pair of shoes ever went well. It only took a few minutes and a few minor adjustments before he was playing fetch in them. The next day however I had to take the front ones off after a block. Third day, same thing. When I got him home I noticed his dew claw was swollen and infected. I don't know if the chaffing from the shoe exacerbated what was already a problem that I was unaware of or if the shoe fits too tightly because his front paws are bigger then the back (I sized up to the front paw which was 2.5" exactly so that's what I ordered). I'm going to get his dew claws cleared up and try again in a few weeks.Since these shoes are expensive I would suggest people concerned about a good fit/dew claw irritation to purchase them in pairs. If one pair doesn't fit you can always exchange them while your dog gets accustomed to wearing the pair that does fit.

German Shepard is 4 yo. Had good cooperation from my dog putting them on and wearing them which made all the difference. I think some of the complaints about this product is not the fault of the booties but a matter of the right size and dog's acceptance of wearing them. The first booties I ordered were one size down from his size on the advice of the manufacturer and they were too small for his paw to go in. I returned them for the size I originally fitted him for and they are perfect. These booties are of high quality. Even if they hadn't fit or not been accepted by dog, it would not be the fault of the booties.I also purchased the liners which are a great help in getting the booties on.The only problem is they do have a tendency to slide down but see tip below.Fitting for dogs' paw can be challenging. I was lucky in getting it right the second time. He wears them now without any problem but for the liners sliding down. I have walked him in the neighborhood so far. I haven't gone on a hike yet. The booties of his hind feet slide off with the liners so I am watching to see how they are without the liners in the back paws and hope they don't slide off anymore.Tip: I've found after some time that folding the liner tops over the booties help keep them from sliding down into the booties.

They stay in place fairly well. (Granted, in the picture, she's missing one bootie, but we were about off the trail so I didn't bother putting them back on.) It was a bit of a challenge keeping them on, so for the price point, if it would really bother you to lose one (or two, or three) then maybe reconsider. These aren't cheap and odds are pretty good they'll come off. On this particular hike, we covered 10+ miles about 8 hours on the trail, so I guess it's understandable they'd come off a few times. When I'd notice she was missing one, I'd just backtrack 50 yards and there was on the trail. No big deal.I noticed too that the paw that had the bootie on start-to-finish protected her pads perfectly and the paw that only had the bootie on it for about half the trail did have some very small hot-spots on her pads. Good cut length - on my full-size GSD they ended just before her dew claws. But do pay attention to whether these start to rub spots in the dew claw. I took off her boots it one had dug into her dew claw and chewed it up pretty good. I may have over-tightened it, and she had it on all day too. Careful that in an effort to keep them on her you don't crank it too tight. I'd limit how much time they have these on, too, like if the trail is just dirt, I'd take them off.

My boxer has degenerative myelopathy and we've had the best luck with these shoes in assisting with her challenges in walking caused by the disease. The grippy traction on the bottom helped in her early stages of the disease, when she started struggling to keep her feet under her on hard surfaces. The grippy bottoms and toe cover help her feet from slipping and assisted with her strides as she pushed off to take a step. I noticed with other shoes, the toe cover is material and thus slippery (causing falling) when trying to take a step off her toes. As the disease progressed, they have protected the tops of her feet from dragging (getting scuffed up)and do not fall off/get pulled off from her dragging her back feet (every other brand we have tried come off during her feet dragging). It is important to make sure the dog's paw is all the way into the shoe, toes touching the top and then fastening the velcro tight enough. If not, then of course the shoe will come off. Also, easy to throw in the washing machine when they need cleaned. They are very durable and quality made. Not to mentioned stylish! They are a little pricey, but in my opinion, the quality and longevity are completely worth it.

Tried several other brands before buying these. I was worried that they would not stay on but they actually stay on better than other brands that we tried. I would highly recommend that you buy the socks to go with these to avoid abrasion. Sizing is tricky. You want them to be snug. If you round up on the sizing chart they won't stay on. I found that measuring my dog's foot without weight on it worked better than having them put weight on it like they suggest. While hiking I found two negatives - on granite (common where we hike) the dogs actually seem to slip more than without these on. Two, while they stay on crossing small streams and creeks, I worry about how much dirt and grit adheres to them afterwards, including getting inside of the boots increasing the chance of abrasion issues (buy the socks). Overall, I am happy with them. I have two dogs that walk on their toes, wearing their nails down badly and causing other problems. These help tremendously with that and are great for hiking in the desert where lots of thorns and stickers are present. These also help in hot climates, keeping your dogs feet from burning on hot surfaces.

Great booties! The dogs find them comfortable enough to run away from home in the Las Vegas 111°F heat! Needless to say, they are quite heat resistant and have a subtle pattern on the sole for grip. The velcro closes decently securely and it has reflective patches on top which is helpful for night walks over gravel pathways. They are breathable and are even good for swimming. My dogs have dew claws and we put the boots over their dew claws and it gives them no trouble at all. I would give these shoes 5 stars but there are 2 issues I have that are unrelated to the quality. First of all, these booties are EXPENSIVE! RuffWear needs to humble themselves with that pricing. And lastly, the sizing chart for these is WAAY off. It seems to run big so maybe size down if you aren't sure or are in between sizes. Aside from that, I feel like they are great quality and are comfortable from what I can tell. Personally tho, at this price, I would look for a similar cheaper option. But if you have the money to burn, aside from sizing, I don't think you will be disappointed. If this was helpful, please indicate it below. It helps me out. Thanks!

Shoes are great. Abby, my geriatric Weimaraner, has a spinal cord disease and slowly becoming paralyzed. Used primarily indoors. Her back feet kept slipping out from under her when on hardwood floors, vinyl and carpeted stairs. The boots have made a drastic difference!! For correct sizing, I followed instructions- tracing paws on paper. Abby has long nails and these fit her perfectly. No rubbing or sores. If video is available, this was right after putting them on her for the first time. Adapted to them quickly and wasn’t long before she realized having boots on is like being in four wheel drive. She has never tried to pull them off. Easy to put on except for me having to hold her back end up while applying due to her condition.Definitely recommend for dogs with backend problems. Only thing I don’t like is the price. Not saying they aren’t worth the money because they are high quality. But if they were a little more affordable, I’d buy several more pairs for front legs, inside and outdoor use, backups while one pair is being laundered.

I was worried at first when I unpacked these shoes because they seemed awfully flat and I had to bend them a bit so they angled better with my pups paws. I have a blue heeler with dew claws on the front. I also purchased the socks to try to help with the rubbing. The shoes are easy to get on, easy to remove. They were a necessity for my pooch, as she keeps breaking her nails from sprinting so hard to play fetch, and play with the other dogs. This was my last resort, and I'm still only concerned about her dew claws. So far, I can say that these stay on very well and don't flip over even with her super fast sprint, and tight turns. It has protected her paws from dirt, and she didn't break a new nail.It does rub on her dew claw, though, and causes her to occasionally stop and bite at the shoes on her front paws. I still recommend these shoes for anyone else in my situation. She wears them for short amounts of time, less than 30 minutes, and it does what I needed them to do. I just wish there was a better design for dew claws.
