When we started leash-training our two-month old rough collie puppy he was naturally not very co-operative and pulled continuously at the leash attached to his collar-ring. We tried the waistcoat-like design of harness and he simply would not tolerate it, pushed his lower jaw down to try to bite through and was always very hostile to it.We discovered the thinner Ancol harness design and got him the smallest size from the local pet shop, which he accepted no problem. Under all the fur, a rough collie actually has a body morphology similar to a greyhound or whippet as they’re a lean and athletic breed (you notice this only when they’re soaking wet)so the small harness was ideal for him until at five months when he weighed 16 kilos we finally ran out of size-adjustment and had to graduate to the medium size. The medium size is like the small scaled-up, with each strap thicker and stronger plus buckle-adjustable under-strap connecting together the two body straps. It all meets at the top in a robust plastic clip which may be connected and disconnected with one quick squeeze between your finger and thumb. You put it on by simply getting the dog to stand his front paws in the two large spaces between the straps and then pull it up, closing the clasp on top; takes a couple of seconds. It’s so strong that you may lift the dog right off the ground – assuming you would ever need to do that – by gripping the harness: almost all the dog’s weight is supported by the strap beneath the waist, with the chest strap ahead of the front legs offering stability. The leash clips onto the paired metal D-rings either side of the clasp. This is a truly excellent product and makes handling the dog much easier in all circumstances, so you never need to hold onto the collar. Because the leash is connected to the D-rings behind the dog’s neck, he can’t reach it so easily and is mostly unaware of it so training is much easier. We wouldn’t be without it.The harness is made of nylon which is wipe-clean but also machine-washable. We got the blue one for our blue merle dog, but it also comes in black or red if you think one of those colours might suit your dog better.Five stars.

Firstly I would say that buying this on amazon is probably the fairest deal you will find. Secondly you have to know which one to order; a bit of a puzzle if you have a puppy rather than a known breed as detailed. It seems to me that it would be a likely purchase for a puppy, one being trained to walk safely and under control on the lead. So perhaps the sizing should go more by weight. I chose Small 3-4 as it most resembles the size (Beagle, Fox Terrier, Welsh Corgi) of my 12kg springer spaniel puppy; well, this week anyway! We quickly got it comfortably adjusted, and happily there is some room for growth, as he is fourteen weeks now, so I hope this might last a month or two.Naturally he tried to bite the front strap and worry at it but as as soon as we set off walking together I could feel it was the right choice, so much more relaxed than him, in his enthusiasm, choking at the end of a lead and collar. We went four miles this morning in companionable mood, never feeling that I was restraining him or damaging his throat. I felt fully in control; he is being taught to sit for every car (we live in a rural area) and it was easy to organise him to do that. Update after a week of using the harness we now walk together as if he isn't on a lead at all, I can hold the lead slack in my hand most of the way. Very pleasant.I like the reflective stitching idea as the nights are drawing in, also the ease with which you can release the dog when on the home run. Just press the clips and it drops down, the dog steps out. I think it looks smart too on the dog, I almost expect him to be pulling a tiny carriage!

This Ancol Padded Nylon Dog Harness gets my terrier's seal of approval. It is much better designed than the previous Ancol harnesses we have used over the past 5 years as the padding is much softer and not as plasticy as previous harnesses. These previous harnesses have cracked on the inside where the harness comes up against the dog's body and I suspect may nip as they expand and contract with the dog's movements. This new design has a sort of nylon almost velvet type of padding that is far more flexible than the previous design. My dog shows a preference to this red harness when offered his older blue or red ones so I think that says it all. However, as with the older harnesses, only time will tell how this functions and performs over time. Previous harnesses seem to last about 2 years plus with normal daily wear. All the other parts of the harness are well designed, too, and I think Ancol have provided yet another great product.

A friend recommended these and I'm glad! This harness is just as good as the more expensive ones I've been using for a few years now, I wish I'd tried this one sooner. I thought because it was cheap it wouldn't be as good quality but it definitely is.It's strong, as tested today when a rabbit jumped right in front of my dogs. They all lunged, the harness stayed perfectly secure. The reflective stitching is also very bright, again, I'm impressed. The padding is nice and spongy, my dogs have thin fur and none of them have been rubbed. It only loses a star because the sizing isn't easy to get right. Maybe it's just m dogs though, but my 32kg greyhound needs an XL, my 26kg greyhound needs a large, and my lurcher measures for a medium but it's having to be returned for a large because it's too tight under the front legs. The larger ones do fit very well though.Really recommend this harness to others.

Having used the harness for a week, I'm impressed. The build quality is good, the stitching reflects light, great for finding your dog in the dark. The fastener is strong and the overall feel of the harness is reassuring. I hope I don't experience the same as another reviewer who had the stitching fail. Up to now, I think the purchase was a good one. I've a one year old golden retriever and this size harness (7-8) was perfect for him. Plenty of adjustment (larger or smaller) to ensure a snug but comfortable fit. When you clip on a lead, the rings and webbing of the harness take all the strain, you don't have to rely on the plastic fastening clip. Fitting is easier than a pull-type harness and removal is even easier, just release the clip and let it fall to the floor, the dog simply walks out of the harness. A good buy.

I found that this was good value for money compared to lots of other harnesses. I chose this one as it was thinner at the front. Our dog likes to go in the water and this meant that it wasn't getting soaked and staying wet during the whole walk and car journey home. It's a little tricky to put on because of the style and the fastening being at the back, getting their legs in can be challenging, especially if they are excited to go on a walk. However, it also means that getting it off is very easy as your just unclip and they can step right out. I like the fact it has padded sections for across the chest and neck for comfort. Having the reflective stitching would also be a bonus if you could see the harness clearly through all our dogs fluff!:SI would purchase again

Perfect size for my 4 month old LabxCollie and he will be able to wear it for a while as it's adjustable and has plenty of space for growth. It is much easier to put on than his previous harness and he seems much more comfortable in it. He pulls much less now and I have greater control to stop him jumping up, without worrying that he'll be hurt when I pull him back. For anyone saying that the harness rubs your dogs skin - get it adjusted to fit their size and shape and it won't! You need to pick a front and a back (initially there is no difference) and adjust them separately to find the right fit for your dog. Once you've done this, they'll be comfortable all the time.

I bought this for a male Springer Spaniel who is very rough with harnesses. He tends to run through woods and bracken which results in the loss or damage of harnesses. This harness is thick and strong and the padding looks to be comfortable. The padding is soft and not plastic like some of the harnesses I have previously purchased.Although he has only worn it a couple of times, I am confident that it will suffer less damage that some of his previous ones.It looks attractive - the straps are wider than most of the harnesses on sale. The clip also seems strong. It was easy to alter the length of the straps - once on the dog - as the instructions are very clear.

I love it and my Belgian Shepherd Rescue is now getting used to wearing it when out doing walkies. She did not like it at first. It is very strong and supports her a lot better than her original Halty around her face. I find I have much more support using this than anything I have used in the past. The main problem we had at first was that she did not want to lift her second foot to put it in the hole. She was getting angry as she did not realize what she needed to do.What a pity they don't seem to make the harnesses any more where the dog does not need to lift its feet to get into the harness.

Very pleased with this purchase. My dog (about 10 Kg) is not a pedigree so it was quite difficult to understand which size I was supposed to buy but everything went well. This harness looks lovely and of a good quality, it looks a bit rigid at the beginning but just because the nylon needs to get shaped on the base of the dog body. You can easily make it bigger or smaller and the padded nylon is great if your dog has the bad habit to pull (especially if he/she does it unexpectedly, when she sees another dog for example). I'm extremely pleased with quality and price.Excellent!

bought 2 of these for my 10kg and 12kg westies, still with room to make slightly larger, this is the 2nd time ive bought these, strong, washable with 2 D rings to attatch lead to so if it accidently comes undone(which it shouldnt as the clip is quite strong) the dogs are still secured to the lead, would most certainly not hesitate to reccomend or buy again, they are fab harnesses,i also bought a seat belt strap which pushes into the seat belt buckle and the other end is like a dog lead clip that connects onto the D ring keeping them safe in the car,

This harness is really well made and is a good fit the reflective is a godsend as we live in a area were there are little or no street lights and his harness can be see for such a long way.the padding makes it very comfortable for him under his legs near is chest.I would really recommend the harness and the seller sent it to us well within the delivery time and was well packed.Would recommend this seller. I have see this harness at a much higher price.Don't know what i would without amazon,s web site save's you so much money.

Like that it is strong, well-made, widely adjustable and reflective. The clasp across the shoulders isn't adjustable so a dog with narrow shoulders will have the shoulder strap chafing its shoulders, but it works (L) for our Collie who is 62cm shoulders and 72cm chest. Better than a cheaper one we had. The central (breastbone) strap is looped over the chest strap padding so can chafe if tight so we leave it three fingers loose. Don't let your Collie chew it, they can get through nylon fast! All in all a good harness.

We have 2 cavalier king charles we buy the small size for both dogs and still have to adjust a lot smaller The recommendatiion was for medium which would have been much to big 1 dog is 8 kg and the other 9.7 kgHaving said that the product is just perfect no strain is put on the plastic clip from the lead as 2 crome "d" rings from either side clip on to the lead, we have had 3 of these in 8 years for our older Cav.Cavs having sticky palette means this harnes stops choking and stops pulling.highly recommendedrde

Great buy! If your looking for a harness for your healthy border collie adult this large sized one is best! Even though a little bit big, you can adjust it to fit their needs whereas if you get a medium size you cant make it bigger if its too small. Walks well on it and stopped her pulling and barking with other dogs and calmed her nerves when around other pets.Would buy it for future pets and definitely recommend it!!!
