I visited the Bushmill's distillery in County Antrim 10 years ago on family holiday so thought it would be fitting to taste this 10 year old malt. Bushmill's is the oldest distillery in Ireland and although it is currently owned by global corporate drinks group Jose Cuervo and was part of the Diageo group before that, it does seem to have retained at least a modicum of authenticity unlike some of the other "brands" that have had their live and soul stripped out of them completely after being acquired by the giant corporate machines. This 10 year malt is aged in American bourbon or Oloroso sherry casks and it does have a slightly "bourbony" (if that's a word)flavour to it which makes it distinct from Scottish whiskies for example. It has won awards for the winner of Best Irish Single Malt Whiskey which, if you think about it, isn't actually that much of an accolade as Ireland is not nearly as prolific at producing whiskies as their Celtic cousins in Scotland. Comparison with Scotch is inevitable and whilst this Bushmills does not have the intricacies of flavour of, say, a Speyside or an Islay, it does have a distinctive character that, according to the sales bumf is due to it being "triple distilled" unlike Scotch which is typically "double distilled". Whether that makes a difference or not I have no idea. What I do know is that I like this and it brings back great memories of my visit to Ireland.

Speyside single malts are my usual preference but I do also enjoy Bushmills original from time to time. This is the first time I have tried Bushmills 10 year old and to say I am pleasantly surprised is an understatement. It has the smooth, honey taste of the Bushmills I know so well blended with a very slight smoky, and slightly peppery taste associated with many Scotch whiskies. The combination works brilliantly.I do find that the 10 year old packs a bit of a punch. Original is genteel and subtle in its delivery of the effects of alcohol, whereas the 10 year old wastes no time in getting down to business. Original I may sometimes drink with a little water, lemonade or ginger ale and serve myself a generous measure.10 year old is for undiluted consumption and a small glass is sufficient for optimum pleasure. Very satisfying. This is one to add to my A list. Now I can't wait to try the Black Bush.

Of all the Irish Whiskey I have tried, Bushmills is my favourite. This 10 year single malt is very similar to the blended black bush but a little more crisp and far less Sherry in the finish. It’s got an incredible taste. Very smooth with a nice amount of oak spice. Easy to drink and very clean finish. Has a sweet honey taste mixed with vanilla and oak spice. It’s a bargain whisky because there’s not much difference in taste between this and Glenlivet 12. And glenlivet 12 is at least £10 more expensive.Scotch Speyside Whisky is my preferred region for go to favourites. But this 10 year Bushmills and the black bush is also up there in my top go to Drams (especially as the price is really affordable). If you like whiskys like Glenfarclas 10,12,15 or any Aberlour, Glenlivet 15 & 12, Glenmorangie 10. I’m sure this will be a whisky you will love to.

If you are looking for a St. Patrick's Day treat then look no further than Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey! I usually drink Black Bush when drinking a Bushmills brand whiskey, and it is one of my favourite tipples, but this 10 year old single malt just has the edge for taste and smoothness and makes a delightful alternative. I spotted this bottle as an Amazon Deal recently so I snapped up a bottle in anticipation of sharing a glass with St. Pat on the 17th! Bushmills has a saying - 'oldest because it's the best, not best because it's the oldest' and, although some may disagree, I can thoroughly recommend any Bushmills whiskey and this 10 year old single malt is well worth trying.Check near St. Patrick's Day - Amazon may have a good deal!

Good scotch is wasted on me - I guess I just don't have the sophisticated palate for it, and to emphasise the point, I love bourbon, and have done for more than 20 years. However, I wanted to get some malt whisky for guests, many of whom refuse to even try a good bourbon. Rather than waste my time with scotch, I thought I'd try this Bushmills when it came up on a lightning deal. Last weekend, I cracked it open for a friend and... well, we settled in and really enjoyed it, neat over ice. It's an incredibly smooth whiskey, and unlike many Scotchs I have tried, has none of that peaty taste. So, perhaps I don't know Scotch from my elbow, but I'm happy to stand up for, and sit down with,Bushmills Irish whiskey.

I have tried many many wiskeys so much so it has left me with bad spelling and liver issues. Having tired Scotish, American, well bourbons, Kiwi, Indian whiskies, Japanese and other variants. I have gone tried £650 offerings, to £5 offerings. I have to say bang for buck this offering os one of the best. completley balanced, slight honey tinge beutiful colour, hasnt quite the smoothness of 18 y.o Malts or blended variants. But a beautiful drink. I think for the price its one of the best and right up there. It is hard to source in the area I live as are bacon flovered crisps. But you cant go wrong at this offering.

Bought for me as present (lucky me) and completely bowled me over. The loveliest whisky I've ever tasted. So easy to drink due to the utter smoothness. It was so delicious I didn't want to drink it too often, but somehow it is quite easy to drink a good old glug of it as it is so wonderful and round. A hefty price but for a special occasion well worth the money. Completely different from the Bushmills non aged whiskey.

This was a good price for this product and I've enjoyed drinking it. It has a nice clean refined taste which I enjoy and no smokiness. My partner who drinks cognac normally won't touch my regular J&B but I've caught her sniffing at this which might of course be a negative. Finally, there is something rather nice about buying these bottles from Amazon and having them arrive on your doorstep at a bargain price.

For those that like a nice refined, sweet and smooth malt you will love this.. so easy-drinking and a good any-time-of-day malt, so much smoother than, for example, the other common Irish Whiskey, Jameson's. Not imperative but a wee drop of water with it will, as with all good malts, release its 'flavours', including mango, honey and milk chocolate. Great price too at £27.50, keep it up Amazon!

This is one of the best Irish whiskey’s there is. Anyone who scores this less than four stars knows nothing about Irish whiskeys. It’s all in the peat people ! Living in Northern Ireland we know a bit about Irish whiskey considering it’s made here ! I take it Ricardo Lopez who scored it one star doesn’t understand the right complexities of our great whiskey. Stick to the tequila gut rot !

I just ordered a second bottle now that it's on offer again. There aren't many whisk(e)ys that I buy twice just because there are so many out there that need me to try them. Similar flavour to normal Bushmills, but sweeter and 'rounder,' obviously there is no grain harshness. When they knock this down to £23 or so it's a must-buy for any malt head, not just Irish whiskey fans.

Got to like Bushmills after visiting the distillery in Bushmills Northern Ireland. Tasted the various Whiskeys on offer and bought some miniatures to take home. Have only bought one bottle of this 10 year old malt and have to say it is very good. Out of all of the whiskey on offer I actually prefer the Black Bush but this is a great malt and highly recommend it.

Well worth picking up if you get this for in around the £25 mark, it's a great Irish whiskey, smooth and well balanced, a great everyday drinker and a step up from black bush and bushmills original. But at £35 the RRP you can do better for your cash, powers 3 swallows, Redbreast or Green spot all better value in that price range, but rarely on offer!

17.6.2013

A very sweet, vanilla-tasting whisky which would be ideal as a very tasty, drinkable introduction to single malt whisky. That said, it is also complex enough to satisfy more serious whisky fans. This has a refined quality and depth of flavour that the Bushmills standard Irish whiskey just does not have.
