My spirit of choice has always been rum, generally with coke, ice and lemon/lime/orange. I do also drink neat with ice. To put my taste into perspective, my everyday go to would be Morgan’s Spiced. For something a bit more special, Mount Gay, Appleton’s or Matusalem. I bore you with these details in order to put my review comments into perspective.I tied this neat with a bit of ice and it had a hint of harshness but once down the throat mellowed out somewhat with a more than pleasant afterglow! Then I reverted to my normal position, a healthy slug in a glass with coke, ice and some lemon and lime. Quite a few times! And it w3mtvdown very well. I would have to say that this suits being drunk without a mixer,it’s not overly mild which suits a mixer, but has enough punch to carry that neat approach. Would I replace this as my “go to” drink with Coke? No, it doesn’t quite hit the right level of blend for me, but would I drink it neat? Absolutely, a proper crafted rum this, but more for serious drinking rather that a frivolous rum and coke.

This tastes far better than any rum I have imbibed before. Reminiscent more of a very good whiskey due to the flavour notes that a high-street rum normally doesn't have. Superb for an after dinner drink, it slips down very smoothly, with some complex yet subtle flavours. A silky, honey-like smoothness to it, with just the right amount of heat. The provenance of this spirit is quite impressive. Great value for the money in comparison to others on the market. If buying for any discerning guests, they won't be disappointed. Unusually for drinking a basic rum perhaps, this needs to be taken on its own with no mixer to appreciate its depth.

A most pleasant rum all the way from Guadeloupe. Enjoyed it cold with ice, it had something of a bite to it initially and I was prepared for a harsh aftertaste, but no - it was smooth and enjoyable. Also drank it with a dash of cola, which seemed almost wasteful, but was most pleasant indeed.Hint of spices reminds me somewhat of Morgan's Spiced, but I'd say I preferred this.Arrived very safely packaged in a magnum-sized bottle safe box, with extra packaging too - no way it was going to get broken in transit, although a lot of cardboard to dispose for just a 700ml bottle.

The 70cl bottle of Bologne Gold Rum is a beautiful amber colour with an enticing aroma. It is a smooth, fairly sweet rum with fruit and honey tones and is pleasantly warm on the palate. Reminding me slightly of a Ron Zacapa my preference for this rum would be to drink it at room temperature without ice and just savour the flavour. Highly recommended for an after dinner drink and quiet contemplation and certainly a gift I would be delighted to give or receive. 5*.

A very pleasant tasting rum from Guadeloupe, amber in colour, had a beautiful aroma and drinks well.I tend to sip my spirits neat and this Bologne Gold reminds me of a decent brandy or blended whisky.I can’t see any info about aging, but I guess it will have spent some time in a barrel.I get citrus and warming spices as taste notes, and found I preferred it slightly warmed in the glass. One note tho ... the packaging was ridiculously over the top.

I have had spiced rum before but this is so different.I tasted a little bitterness of orange, cinnamon and some other type of spice. However saying that it was very warming and tasty. It is a full 70% rum.Totally different from English rum.Forget the taste of rums you have tried this is one on its own.A rum that I could get very close to.The colour of honey maybe that is what I can taste as well. All in all a very good warming friendly drink

I use rum for cocktails, cooking and sipping, but I buy it only sporadically. This does have an orangey taste, but is a little thin in flavour. I woukdn’t class it as a sipping rum myself. It isn’t too harsh though despite the 40% volume, apart from a little afterburn on the upper palate after 20 seconds. More of an ingredient drink.

Light gold in colour in the glass, the first sip of this rum may not be the smoothest, but its subtle flavour and lack of sweetness makes each successive sip more and more alluring. Definitely a rum that I would come back to, and at this price it compares favourably with many more expensive offerings.

This one tastes like an Agricole Rum to me, i.e. made with Sugar Cane and not molasses. Very pleasant flavours indeed, I like it a lot, but a little bit too much of an alcohol burn and aftertaste to make it a 5 Star. I am sure their more expensive Rums will be much smoother.

A delicious rum to drink over ice - it's golden, with caramel tones and a smooth sweetness. There's no harshness to it at all. It mixes well, as the flavours aren't overpowering, but it seems like a waste to dilute it.
