My Pops went to Jamaica to visit family back in the day (90s) and brought 3 bottles of this back, he had to put red syrup in to get past customs because this stuff is lethal and them days you wasn't allowed to bring this into the country. Anyhow our white next door neighbour came round for a drink he was a big drinker and bragged he did 40 pints a night he was same age as me at the time 19 whatever, any how after doing probably less than 1 quarter of a bottle he couldn't find his way home, he lived next door this is not an exaggeration this is a true story the following day we gave it him he had been wrayed LOL. Seriously my pops pored some on a varnish table top and lit it and said that is how you tell if its the real deal the table top never got scorched.....

You've probably heard the saying " This stuff is dynamite " or "this stuff will blow your head off!" Applied to many strong drinks. Once you have experienced a session of what the Jamaican's call "the loopy juice", that is, this rum, that you will truly understand the reality of these sayings. I awoke with total amnesia after under a quarter of a bottle, and a confused smile on my face! It took me an hour or so of happy delerium to figure out how I got there! This Rum is by no exaggeration amazing and must be experienced by anyone who wishes to call themselves a connoisseur of rum. I look forward to my next session with a new found respect for a drink that truly "takes no prisoners".

You see Wray and Nephew overproof rum everywhere in Jamaica.; giant bottles are hand painted on the side of buildings and the brand name is entrenched in Jamaican culture. I usually bring a bottle home when I go because it is not well known and difficult to find in the UK other than in specialist Caribbean stores. Until now that is as it is now possible to buy Wray and Nephew on Amazon. This is 63% alcohol which makes it 126-proof white rum and will not be to everyone's taste. It certainly packs a kick even when mixed. If you are looking for the authentic taste of Jamaica, this is it.

If you want to melt the hub caps off your car, douse them in this and wait 10 minutes.Kidding.I have been using this in double extraction of medicinal mushrooms such a lions mane and reishi because a food grade, high proof alcohol is hard to find in the UK (Everclear being the American counterpart) and this seems to be the highest proof/best value. There is also a spirit called Spirytus by Bartex which is about 95% but it's about £35 for 500ml.Once I've made a tincture using this, I rarely ever get the flavour (however it smells spicy) but it makes a fine extraction either way.

For everyone that says it’s harsh, horrible, LIKE NAVGAS ETC, you obviously do not drink rum. I found this smooth, and exceptionally well warm. I ordered a 1 litre bottle, and considering this is the first time I have tried this rum, I shall DEFINITELY buy again. Received today, and already have had a good few nips. I feel that those that give negative reviews, have either had bootleg bottles ,or just can’t handle their drink . Niall honesty I can say , this is CRACKING RUM, but just like a lot better f people say , if ur not used to your spirits “TAKE IT EASY” ENJOY

I first drank this on a Jamaican tourist boat where the crew mixed it in a bucket with Tang orange drink. One bottle of Tang to one of Rum. It was then dolled out to the tourists in disposable plastic cups, who were told it was a simple rum punch . More like a right hook than a punch. Two glasses of this and you didn't care that the sea was a bit rough.Wickedly good rum. Don't expect it to be smooth or well aged, as it's a simple, honest rum and will knock you back for six if not treated with respect, just like Jamaica.

This is a staple in outhouse and has been for generations. Many people that are use to dark rums or perhaps compare this Bacardi are very misled...there is NO comparison!The Wray & Nephew white rum is not for the fair hearted and has a distinct flavour that some will never comprehend.A little goes a very looooooong way!Truly an authentic white rum.If you know, you know and will certainly enjoy!Also great for cooking and baking with alongside mixing with a whole raft of cocktails of course.Enjoy and go steady! ?

Could not taste the flavour notes here due to the strength of the alcohol. Neat this ain't good but for cocktails it does provide a good base. Probably won't buy it again as I like spirits that can be drunk on their own or mixed. I've changed my review over time. All the above stands but the addition to say it is smooth actually. Due to strength, not for the faint hearted. A decent drink to use for cocktails. Some will say it's wasted in a cocktail. However, we're all entitled to an opinion.

If you're after a rum that you can swig straight, this is not the rum for you. As it can be harsh.I've grown up having this rum in my household and to enjoy it properly it needs to be paired with something. Traditionally this would be rum punch or Sorrel punch.My aunt uses it to make the most amazing fruit cake.Growing up it was also used as a household cure for colds, bruises and headaches, by rubbing some of this rum on my forehead and chest.All in all, I really love this rum.

This is the national drink of Jamaica, to start a fire, add to a cake or drink in the cold to remind you of the old country... once at a concert I lost my cousin, smelt him faaaaar away before I even saw him coming bringing a bottle (half finished) of this beautiful overproof legend. No other rum compares, good friend to drink neat through the hard times or mixed with coke for the ladies. The only drink worth having at a Jamaican funeral, that should tell you all you need to know. x

The West Indian favourite. I can understand how some folks don’t appreciate the taste due to the potency of this mighty fine liquor ? , but if mixed well it’s the best rum out there, nice with ginger beer, pineapple juice or whatever fruit juice you like, it’s great meat also with ice. I prefer it neat with ice. Takes me back home while mi nyam some good island food. Over proof it may be, but it’s the only rum I can over drink and wake up without a hangover. QUALITY STUFF

Keep seeing lots of reviews saying its terrible and harsh and tastes weird but I thought it was surprisingly pleasant!I must admit I was expecting it to be quite harsh and paint thinnery but it really is not, I even tried it neat and if anything it was smooth and creamy!I enjoyed it with coke actually and once you mix it together it weirdly starts to taste like a nice Cognac.Fantastic and very enjoyable.

The sales hype on flavour is not an exaggeration. It reminds me of some of the finest German Schapps that are available. For those that fear it is a taste and tongue incinerator, don't worry, it's very refined in my opinion. It brings a smile to your face and hits you between the eyes and blows your mind first and foremost. Sampling in moderation will be the most difficult discipline.

If you know about Wray and Nephew rum you know it is the strongest of strong with an exquisite and unique flavour. It is not to be played with and is certainly not for sissy's! Lol. Perfect to add to cocktails and all things fruity. If you're into your more softer and sweet rums, purchase if you dare! This is definitely a staple for all strong rum drinkers who can handle the burn!

I can drink many large G&Ts and feel fine but all it takes is one shot of this rum and I'm well on my way! Even though the percentage sounds dangerously high - I find I drink much less units overall when on this stuff because you only need a shot or two to be well on your way! So then I go on to the water which is probably way healthier than a full night of spirit/mixers.
