This one is high on my list for the price point, and I don't think you can do better for less.If you don't know anything about it, this is pretty popular in it's home country of Puerto Rico and has a rich history having been operating for about 150 years or so and being on their 6th generation familial distillary operator if I remeber what I read correctly, although I might be a little out of date there. If you're interested, just google Don Q and take a look at their history yourself on their website.Anyway...This particular rum is aged in American Oak barrels, usually for something like 2 - 5 years - not usually considered a "sipper rum" at that age.Did you know they bottle a "151 proof" aka "75% by volume" version of this? It's amazing, key for recipies that require a bit of flame in the pan - just dont singe your eyebrows, be careful if you're flambe-ing things - tasty isn't worth the kitchen, or your eyebrows : ) That's all I have to say about it that.Back to this bottle... Depends on your tastes, obviously, but this makes a good mixer or base for rum cocktails in my opinion. I wouldn't personally drink it purely neat, more likely with just a splash of water or on the rocks with a little melt in the glass as it's a "young rum".This & the Crystal are the "entry level" rums from Don Q, so if you're looking for something a little more fancy, with a deeper flavour profile - I would suggest hitting up the Don Q Anejo which has a longer minimum time for the aging process. With this in mind, I would ignore the reviews asserting that this rum isn't up to their standard as none have mentioned the fact they are buying the cheapest rum that Don Q offer and they are either oblivious to this fact or are pretentious and probably don't know as much about rum as they think they do.I guess I'll finish it with a TL:DR...Ignoring the half-baked reviews lacking information. To summarise:If you intend mixing this into a cocktail, I don't think you will be disappointed. If you're going to be drinking it on the rocks with a little ice-melt, or with water... I also don't think you will be disappointed considering this is the cheapest Don Q option you have.If you want something that's more of a "sipper" - spend a bit more and get the Anejo. It's worth it if that's your preferred way to drink your rum.If you want to flambe something tasty, get the Don Q 151 - It's a winner. You're welcome.Enjoy your drink.
