Mantuano is the replacement for Diplomatico's Reserva rum. 'Mantuano', meaning 'nobleman', reflects Don Juancho's status and his passion for travel and the discovery of new spirits, mainly rums. Don Juancho is present on each of Diplomatico's rums.Aged for up to eight years, Mantuano is a blend of Column, Batch Kettle and Pot Still rums and made from molasses and sugar cane honeys. It is fantastic when mixed in cocktails, or sipped neat.TASTING NOTESNOSEThick, heavy and sweet – like wading through molasses. With some time, black treacle, cherries and Millionaire’s Shortbread come through, wrapped in sweet liquorice and milk chocolate.PALATESpicier than expected from the nose, but rich and oily in texture.

Amazon kindly sent me a broken bottle that had leaked all over the presentation box it came in so lost out on a couple of shots of rum.Once I cleaned the bits of the glass out of the bottle it's a great starter rum for sipping neat, or with some lime, cola or ginger beer.I think it's worth sipping with a single or two cubes of ice first time to really get a feel for the flavours.It goes down easy due to the sweetness, but I think it helps the other flavours come out some more.Rums like Mount Gay Appleton aren't allowed sugar as they're British style Jamaican rums and are usually the next step after Diplomatico.Havana Club 7 is slightly harsher, but still very nice for cocktails and mixing.

I am more of a whisky drinker, and was advised to give this a try by a friend who is a barman. I followed his advice and didn't mix it with anything. He said it's best to sip it neat with 2-3 cubes of ice. It's very sweet and the ice helps water that part down perfectly. The alcohol percentage is still there though, and it's felt as you drink it but it's also very smooth as it goes down.We like to start our night with this (whilst sober enough to appreciate it) and then we put it away. However, if you want to start and end your night with this then you're also in for a unique experience.The feeling of being drunk on this stuff is happy and euphorically unbalancing.

I recently moved form the US to UK, wanted to experiment a new brand in Rum. US is a big fan of Captain Morgan. I had enough of it, so was looking for something different. Diplomatico caught my eyes, ordered on Amazon, got it the next day. Tried neat with my Rum dedicated glass, the smell notes were out of this world, no words to explain, simply amazing. My first ever spirit was a Rum, back in 2003, so I always respect great tasting rums. This one exceeded the expectations, huge respect to the makers and the founder. I started sharing news about this rum to all my friends in the US and other places. Planning to get them a bottle as a gift when I visit them.

This is the sweetest rum that I have ever had but it has a wonderful taste and is incredibly smooth.After trying a bunch of more traditional rums like Mount Gay and Appleton Estate, I received this as a gift for mothers day after requesting something a bit different.My son told me that it will be a bit sweeter than my usual rums and he was spot on. I was pleasantly surprised with just how easy this was to drink. Absolutely delicious and will certainly be purchasing again as well as looking at more rums that are similar in profile to this.As for tasting notes, it has notes of vanilla, toffee, cinnamon and perhaps some orange.Wonderful rum,

There is no doubt that this is an incomparably smooth and suave rum which works magnificently as an after-dinner liqueur. It is definitely though not for those who favour a dryer and more assertive rum, such as Dictador. I have only so far found one other rum to match this, the El Dorado 12 year old, which is slightly dryer and possibly more overtly complex but the Diplomatico is well-named, it's handsome, suave, smooth, cultured, impeccably dressed, and after a glass or two you'll be gliding serenely over the dance floor, too. The only problem really is that bottles just seem to .... evaporate around here. Just too irresistible with a slice of fruit cake or some chocolate...

This was a present I ordered for myself for a special occasion, given in reality by someone else. I don’t know if I would have bought it as a routine purchase, but now I perhaps just might!I’m a whisky lover, and never add mixers or even water. I occasionally drink rum, but always add something to that. Some rums can taste almost medicinal. I did find a nice spiced rum in a shop locally, but that cost about the same as this at the time.Diplomatico is worlds apart and I’m sure I’m only going to sip it neat. It has a deep colour and complex flavours. It’s whisky-like in that sense, but has a wonderful character all of its own.You won’t be disappointed!

Very nice rum that is really worth trying for anyone interested in good rum. Great packaging as befits a premium product so excellent choice if you are buying as a gift. Certainly extremely smooth with no afterurn, but also very sweet with possiby a hint of added flavours (which is quite acceptable in rum production). For my personal preference Zacapa 23 is a better drop but this is certainly up there with the best. I drink it neat and add a squeeze of lime to balance the sweetness.If you are just becoming interested in rums, look out for Zacapa 23, Flor de Cana, Mount Gay XO and Angostura 1919, then make your own comparisons.

I have to say that I have always drunk Lambs Navy or Captain Morgan. I had read the reviews and was unsure if if would be that much better.Well I can confirm this is a different class. It's like Blu Ray compared to VHS. Not that "everyday" rums are good, I have tried many dark & golden rums including some spiced (not every sure about spiced rum) but this is more.I would say watch where you buy it from. Try the UK sellers to avoid delays. Mine came well packed & from SpainUpdate 25.07.18Reordered and the bottle came poorly packed & not in the bottle case. However same quality contents.

Oh my word, this is truly delicious if you enjoy a good rum, its best on its own sipped and savoured, it is rich both in colour and texture, with the sweetness of raisins. The aroma is amazing, jsut having a sniff is enough to send you into heaven! This is my third bottle ! I have never had Venezuelan rum before, and although its a blend of three its so much better than the single. I love it. The after taste leaves me smacking my lips and wanting more , my usual tipple is Cuban 7 yr as the 12-15 is way too expensive , but this has replaced it , divine . Try it you will not be dissappointed

Bought this based on the reviews here as I'm looking to get in to my sipping rums having been drinking the likes of Kraken, Morgan Spiced, Sailor Jerrys etc for the past decade. I've tried Atlantico Reserva which I found a little too flat in taste. The Diplomatico I found to be a little too on the sweet side for me. As the ice melts the taste definitely improves but I'm still on the lookout for something a little less sweet.Update: Having tried the Plantation XO which is a perfect for my taste, I would say to go for that if you find this Diplomatico too sweet.

The Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is an easy sipping rum that is made from molasses and aged for 12 years. It has a rich, sweet flavour with hints of Christmas cake, caramel and a touch of oak smoke.I enjoy good quality spirits but I have never been a rum drinker until I discovered this one. I tried the Ron Zacapa XO, Kraken and Angostura rums and quite a few others before a bartender at one of my favourite bars enthusiastically recommended this one and I am so glad that he did. This has been one of the centrepieces of my liquor collection ever since.

This is a wonderful rum for the money. Sit back, take your time and enjoy - neat, or on-the-rocks. Always have a bottle nearby if you can afford it, for special occasions if you can't. Seriously though, a glass or two of this sipping rum is a lovely way to see out the end of a special, or even a hard day - either on your own or with those you care about. I shared a bottle with my daughter and friends after her graduation ceremony, and gave a bottle to my brother, along with a crystal decanter for his 50th birthday. That's how highly I rate it.

Rum is great and I like everything about it, its one of my favorites. But beware, I ordered for £36 and it came in a basic prime pack with just a bottle in it, without that deluxe bottle case. In my option its okay cause I ordered it for myself. But if you want to get it for Christmas or present, consider other options, maybe elsewhere is a bit more expensive but at least you'd get it with the bottle case and that would look deluxe for present or table with friends.
