It comes in a nice well laid out box that should please the environmental movement as it’s sparse but adequate and so it should be on a positive note as all too much these days is spent with many layers of packing material before you even get the item itself. Once out the box and checked to make sure everything is present and correct according to the small but just about adequate instructions, it’s then assembly time. It took about four to five minutes to do the minimal amount of screwing together to get it to look like the image on the box it came in. You get assorted attachments that should cover just about all of anybody’s household cleaning needs plus the hose has a good reach with it plus a small bottle of the company shampoo to get you going. The cable length is generous although a bind at having to keep winding it back on the usual holders or bracket arrangement on the machine but a minor point. As a challenge, despite we have vacced the area many, many times over the past five years we have owned it, our family caravan was in need of a good clean both carpet and upholstery-wise and so what better than to set this onto it. Once we manoeuvred the device into the main living area and working backwards towards the entrance door in the rear section, we filled the water tank up and played everything by the simple but basic instructions and away we went. The first ‘sweep’ seemed to make an impact straight away and we managed to do the complete carpet area in about twenty or so earth minutes and left it to ‘dry a while’ before going over it again, Being slightly damp in appearance it was not quite clear how good it was as bearing in mind, there was over five years worth of dirt and debris either lying or had been trodden in during this time, true only a seasonal sort of thing but in use its amazing how much can be trodden in as we found by looking at the dirty water afterwards. In the interim we went shopping before starting on Round Two. We came back, made and drunk a cuppa and started again and then you could see the difference straight away - we could see the original pattern of the carpet coming through! - amazing to think what we assumed was one colour turned out to be completely different from when we first brought it - a minor point but worth mentioning and oh yes, we found two stains we can’t work out what had caused them but perhaps with another going over, we may well ‘lose them’ - time will tell!. To be fair, not sure as it was a ‘caravan carpet’ but it left a few marks or lines where the washer had been but once dry, a good going over with a vacuum cleaner brought all back to pristine condition as in a nice and ‘fluffy’ type pile you can see. Using the accessory brush on the covers and cushions was quiet enlightening as just one s-l-o-w pass was enough to bring them back to life. Overall, while the machine is slightly heavy, its manageable and does the job it’s made for and has brought back life into our caravan that perhaps we may well have had to pay a small fortune out to a professional to come along and do exactly the same job and perhaps cost as much for so doing, but having this machine means you can use the machine whenever you like. Right then - South coast, here we come then, now we are all ‘spick and span’ as they say.

We had a vax a few years ago, absolute rubbish.. We even got in a professional team to clean the living room carpet, yet even they couldn't get it anywhere near as clean as this amazing machine has done.Couple of notes, for anyone that is having trouble or has the hose keep falling out of the holders. You get two hose brackets, one screws to the back of the machine and one fits on the handle (before you mount it to the machine.. I saw a guy on a video demonstrating it and he tried all sorts of things to keep it from falling out,. He worked out that the spot cleaning accessory head, fitted in a clip in the centre of the lower hose bracket, which is true, however, it should really be fitted to the hose, then pushed into the clip, on the side of the upper bracket, then the swivel clip turned to prevent it coming out (see first image). Also , just in case, you have the machine running over the cable , pass it through the small clip at the back of the handle, that way it exits from the back of the machine , rather than lower down of the side.As for using the machine.. This cannot be stated enough.. You have to go VERY slow, it is not like a vacuum cleaner, where yo blast over the carpet and job done.. You need to position the head of the machine at the beginning of a run, power it on, push on the small level in the handle, make one slow pass forward, then one pass back, holding that trigger, this is the wet pass. Now you release the trigger, going slowly forward over the same strip and then slowly backwards, until the machine is back where it started.. I found you can do approximately 2 strips, approx 8 ft in length, before you have to empty the tank and refill. Our carpet was last cleaned, by so called professionals, back in 2009. So as you can imagine, despite daily vacuuming, it contains a heap of ground in dirt and pet hair, plus the countless stains that accumulate over time.. We even tried that Vanish power, which had ZERO effect. So a couple of days ago, I decided enough was enough, so I bought this and I am so impressed by the results. Having seen so many photos showing a carpet before and after, I realise most are taken from the wrong angle, so the difference is barely noticeable, so I've not include a photo yet, as I am doing it in stages, as we only have a small house, and finding somewhere to put the furniture is impossible, but I can assure you, even after almost 10 years of boots , shoes, dog cat, dust and ground in hair, this Bissel Stain Pro 4 is an absolute marvel. In the first image, you can see the carpet, just after I'd completed the central section, so it's still damp, but when my mother saw the black water, that came out of the tank, she was stunned. I told her I would probably do it twice, as I am sure, even though it looks very much brighter and feels so much softer, there is probably still more ingrained dirt, that this machine could remove.Anyway, question is, would I recommend this machine and the answer is an unreserved YES. Top quality, excellent performance and I still can't believe it has done such a fantastic job, even after the first run.

Oh, how eagerly I awaited for this item! After a lot of research, and a very bad vax rapide carpet cleaner experience, I settled on this carpet cleaner mostly based on the name, the reviews and the price. The fact that it would allow me to clean my stairs, made it the winner. So, after being informed that it would be arriving today, I shifted some furniture and hoovered the room in preparation. Anyone who lives in an old, rented house can probably understand my excitement. It arrived with no excessive packaging, boxed as you would see it in a shop with some added cellophane (So if you're ordering it for a surprise, it won't be).I unpacked all of the bits, all present and correct, though it did take a lot longer to put together than it probably should have. Either I was being particularly special or it was the instructions. Though, it is possible for two things to be true. Anyway, the written instructions are kinda vague (attach a to 4 as shown in picture type of deal) and the illustrations are very small, very grainy and I still didn't care because I finally had my carpet cleaner.I finally got it all put together and filled with water (Very easy lift out tank) and used the detergent provided to go over some stained areas on a browny gray carpet that I had used the vax rapide carpet cleaner on just 5 days ago.Firstly, the noise was less of that screaming mechanical undertone that a lot of carpet cleaners have and more like a standard vacuum cleaner level.Secondly, it was blatantly obvious from the first pass with the cleaner that it was hugely more effective than the last. After a slow and steady session, the area cleaned felt almost dry to the touch and some stains had already been removed, with just a couple extremely stubborn ones remain though not as obvious. As the carpet is not quite dry yet, I'm yet to be able to see if there's much of a colour difference between the cleaned area and the next to be cleaned one. If the colour of the dirty water is anything to go by, it'll be a good couple of shades. The detergent provided a nice, fresh smell to the room. The true test will be a thick, once-cream rug. If it brings that up, then it's a bargain.Quick update, the gray (but once-cream) rug has now had 2 goings over with this cleaner (using the same detergent as was supplied) and we couldn't believe the difference. One added bonus was how the cleaner spits out any hair that is removed from deep inside the fibres. Even after a very thorough vacuuming, this bad boy was still coughing out hairballs quicker than my Persian cat! The rug is now cream in all but one or two stubborn spots and is definitely a lot cleaner, not just cleaner looking. I can't recommend this product enough.

This arrived well packaged and secure. Easy to remove and a minimal amount of self assembly required. Do read the instructions as some of the assembly is not self evident. It's easy and only took me a few minutes. The machine seems robust and its simple to use. Clever tank design makes it easy to fill and empty as well as adding the correct amount of shampoo. We've only used it once so far and it's very impressive. As with all carpet cleaners the amount of dirt extracted is embarrassing but, unlike some, this machine leaves the carpet reasonably dry. It also looks clean and feels good.I am a bit concerned that the membrane in the water/waste container is flimsy and if this fails the machine is useless. There is a guarantee so early failure shouldn't be a problem. It's probably just me, but this seems the only weak point that I can see. I wonder how much a replacement tank is? I'll come back to this review and update if it does fail. I'm sure that Bissell have tested this and it will be fine. All told a good and easy to use machine that does the job very well. After I wrote this, I thought I'd see if I could find a replacement "bladder tank". Well I found a genuine "Bissell" one in about two minutes and - wait for it - it's priced at under £6.00. Brilliant. Even if it has to be replaced every few years, which I doubt, the cost is minimal. In fairness to Bissell, all their parts seem reasonably priced. That, to me, is a good selling point.Oct 2018 update - since first getting this machine we've had an "accident" problem with our ageing cat. So we've put this to use a few dozen times and it works perfectly, leaving carpets clean and fresh. I really am impressed and the tank is still fine so my original fear that this would fall apart quickly, was clearly unfounded. I've used other cleaners but this one beats them all!September update - still going strong and the tank remains perfect. I just can't fault this machine and, from experience to date, it should last for years. It's been put through its paces recently as our dog has decided to wet the kitchen carpet every other night! Wonderful! Half a tank of cleaner and ten minutes with Mr Bissell, and all is well again. Will it shampoo dogs? I've had lots of questions from Amazon Customers and, so far, all queries and concerns have been answered positively. This seems to me like the leading machine out there and is a lifetime away from my last one. Brilliant. Increased to 5*s which is very rare for me.

I was lucky enough to be able to test this product free of charge. This was fortunate as my light coloured carpet although only a couple of years old needed cleaning. It arrives in a surprisingly compact box - that's because you have to do a bit of assembly before you can use it (nothing too complex just a bit of pushing together & doing up some screws). Once it's assembled it's actually quite basic & easy to use. It has one tank combing the water with cleaning solution & the dirty water. The soapy water is held in a 'bladder'. You simply depress the red button with your foot to start the cleaner, do the same with the grey button to lower the brush & unlock the upright part of the vacuum & then press the button on the handle to spray the water. The instructions suggest a forward & backward pass with the spray triggered & then another without to suck up the water. There is also a hand held tool for upholstery or difficult to reach areas. This is made available by turning a dial on the front of the base. You continue in this way until the soapy water is gone or the job finished. A small sample bottle of Bissell carpet cleaner is included in the box.So what did I discover? Well it's undoubtedly easy to operate albeit a bit heavy. I found I had to do several passes to pick up the water but this is what I would have expected from previous carpet cleaner experience. It's not excessively noisy. However, whilst the concept of combining the clean & dirty water tanks to save effort is admirable in theory, in practice I found that the soapy water tank was too small. I live in a 1 bedroom flat & haven't got a huge carpet in the lounge but I had to refill the tank twice. I also found that the dirty water tank was difficult to fully clean as its shape means it has lots of awkward corners & nooks & crannies for dirt/fluff to stick (even though there is a small easily removable fluff filter to capture it). The brush seemed to pick up huge amounts of fluff & hair (no idea where it comes from - hopefully not bits of carpet!) which got deposited on the carpet whilst I was doing my passes to suck up the water. This was despite running my Dyson over the carpet before cleaning. The long hairs (not mine) got firmly wrapped around the brush & were very difficult to remove. However, despite that I thought the Bissell did a good job & is competitively priced. So 4 stars not 5 due to the tank capacity, tank cleaning issue & weight.

We just got this machine because our ten-year old VAX machine began emitting smoke and sparks. So far I have cleaned the landing and the bedroom with it. It is better than the VAX machine was at the actual cleaning, I think, though it's hard to judge for sure. One full tank of water did both rooms, whereas the VAX would have taken 3 tanks in my estimation. This machine releases water only when you press the trigger and then sucks it up very efficiently. The water is heated by the machine. I did find that towards the end it was leaving twists of purple "carpet detritus" as they had accumulated during cleaning from the brushing process, and then were coming off occasionally as little lumps on the floor. However, these were easy enough to pick up. I also tried cleaning carpeted steps with the attachment tool and that worked well also. The machine is cleverly designed. For example, there is a single water tank with a flexible membrane in it. You put the cleaning solution in the top and the membrane swells out into the tank to accommodate it. Then as the machine cleans, dirty water squirts into the bottom under the membrane; hence one tank is used for both clean and dirty water. Neat!Cleaning the machine afterwards turned out to be straightforward also. The tank is carried like a bucket to the sink, tipped out, and then you rinse it thoroughly. The front brushes have a couple of twist locks that you rotate and then lift off the brush cover. You can then easily clean the cover (which was quite hairy) and the brushes. In summary, so far I am very satisfied. I did also take out Amazon's insurance because I was fearful of a few "1" reviews where people had experienced that something or other broke or did not work. We'll see how it goes as time passes. We are using it a lot right now as we have new puppies! Last note about the assembly: you do need to be competent with a screwdriver but nothing more - it was easy and the photos, though small, helped. One tip: when attaching the top hose bracket, you put it into the indentations and *then slide it up* before locking it in place with the screw. They don't mention about sliding it up a little and to begin with I was baffled by the misaligned screw hole. This wasn't too hard to figure out though.

I tried this out on my 16-year-old cream bedroom carpet, which had never been steam cleaned. The process has definitely changed the colour and it's now much closer to the original colour. Sadly it does also make stubborn stains more noticeable as the carpet is now considerably paler ... although the appearance of the stubborn stains (mainly makeup and a slight burn mark from tongs) was greatly improved.I was delighted that the washer managed to completely remove the indentation in the carpet left by a heavy piece of furniture. It didn’t mange to shift ash from near the fireplace - the steam mixed with the ash to spread it further - but I will go over the area again. For a deep clean,I think the pre-clean product that they suggest would be beneficial.I went over the carpet twice over the course of two days and on both occasions the colour of the water when emptied was alarmingly dirty!Cons• The hose drips a bit• I found it hard to manage the extra long cable and the hose as I moved the machine around.• It's very heavy• It's slightly tricky securing the lid of the water container and it can easily spill when picking it up by the handle.• The first bundle of wet fibres (the machine churns them out) is rather alarming, but that’s the nature of the process, and it does show how much doesn’t get hoovered up.• It leaves slight groove marks on the carpet, but these are easily removed by vacuuming when dry• Leaves the carpet damp, but so do all carpet cleanersPros• Cable is extra long so it can reach round an entire room.• The water container is large enough to do a whole room without refilling.• The machine is easy to assemble but a Phillips screwdriver is required• Very logical and easy to use.• Great articulated handle controlled by a foot pedal enables easy movement• Cable wraps round machine easily as does the hose.• Attachments for the hose help with areas by skirting boards and stubborn areas - these are also good for upholstery apparently• The branded cleaner seams very good, unperfumed and efficient

This is a pretty intimidating package, looking like something that might have chased Buck Rogers down a corridor, but once you have it out of the package and read the surprisingly sparse, yet complete, instructions, it's simplicity itself to use. I was genuinely shocked how simple it all was.First clear as much of the floor space as possible - you may as well get at as much of the carpet as you can. Vacuum using your standard cleaner first of all to get rid of the dust and detritus that might be there. This'll make your life easier when you get to using the carpet washer.Add hot water to the tank of the washer along with a measured dose of shampoo, close it up and you're good to go.Cleaning is a one button operation. It is not the most easily steered things and it's quite heavy. Plan your route before you start as you want to vacuum with a goal to leaving the room without having to walk across the wet carpet. The carpet, in my experience, takes about an hour before you can walk on it, but I'd leave it for longer to be sure. There's also an upholstery tool accessible on the back of the washer. The tube for this is always installed and can be a little annoying to secure. The extension lead, which you should fully unwind before use, is a good length, but there's no reel or self-winding mechanism, so if you're using the upholstery tool it turns into a bit of a faff winding and securing everything back onto the washer once you're done.A few usability niggles aside, it does a good job. It won't lift really old ground in stains. The dirty water that comes off it, particularly if you have pets or children (poTAYto/poTATo) is shocking. You'll be wondering how you trod the Axminster without getting your socks muddy. Possibly overkill for the average sized home, and not something you'll want to use more than a couple of times a year, or if you have a fresh spot stain to deal with, it's a terrific bit of gear. 4.5 out of 5.

Firstly I have to admit that I have never, ever, used a carpet shampoo-er/cleaner/washer in my life. Many and various vacuum cleaners yes, but never anything that required water, so I was a little apprehensive about using this. However, as there are loads of carpets in my parents house that desperately needed attention, I got to grips with it.Everything you need to clean carpets and upholstery is in the very large box; some assembly is needed but it's quite straightforward and easy. The fully assembled beast is big, and it is heavy, but having said that it's not difficult to use. Read the instructions which, thankfully, are not translated from Chinese, so are easy to understand. The design is very good, with a fully removable water tank which is easy to fill with hand hot water, and the chosen detergent. Once the tank is replaced and the machine is plugged in you're ready to go.It really is just a simple matter of squeezing then releasing the trigger (in the handle) as per instructions and in a matter of seconds the dirty water can be seen moving from floor to holding tank. It's used in a forward/backward motion, and moves quite easily over the floor despite it being heavy. I cleaned a fitted carpet in a smallish room this morning and was really impressed with the result. From start to finish – filling the tank, emptying and cleaning up, took me not quite half an hour. Cleaning up, by the way, is also quick and easy; I actually put the two pieces of the water tank into the shower, washed them and left them to drain and dry.It has a very long power cable which I haven't yet measured, but will do so; the water tank is large enough at just over 4.5 litre to cope with large areas. It is really powerful and, obviously a bit noisy.Although expensive, it would pay for itself if there are enough family members to make the cost worthwhile.

Arriving in a big box which was quite difficult to handle and very heavy I had high hopes for this carpet cleaner the weight suggesting a substantial bit of kit. While the box was large its disassembled contents were packed quite neatly inside so that with the packing there was not a lot of wasted space.A quick read of the manual and assembly instructions and then assembly, (a one-time deal really) this too about 15 minutes. The cleaner itself is quite substantial in feel and while it’s a little cumbersome its not too difficult to use though when full it is heavy remember a litre of water weighs approximately 1 KG.Anyway using the product when set up which is what you want to know: easy fillbladder as others have noted this is possibly the flimsiest part of the product and with the carpet cleaner in we fired up the beast. I was expecting more noise its relatively quiet in use not 100% so. And our, what we thought was clean living room floor was our test bed. (A pale carpet we have always hoovered regularly and discourage outdoor shoes), to our surprise the carpet was not very clean at all with a noticeable stripe as I ran across the carpet, forcing me to do the whole room much to my wife’s delight. One point here is that the lead is suitable long enough to clean an average 1970’s built semi-detached house. The colour of the water was I have to say disappointing as we really did not have a clean carpet at all the cleaner also picked up a lot of bits, which again as other have noted were quite difficult to clean out of the bladder afterwards. The carpet however was nice and clean and while it was damp as you would expect it was not soaking we and was completely dry in few hours.Overall though I am very happy with the product and can recommend it over another household name beginning with V which are also available on Amazon.

I have had one of these for years - this is the new and updated model....It is amazing for cleaning rugs - instructions are really easy to follow and the operation is super easy. You fill one tank with water, another with cleaning water and cleaning liquid ( I recommend you use bissells own - its more expensive but gives much better results!) and then it is just like vacuuming. It is a one switch operation you first select wash to dispense the cleaning liquid over the whole carpet and rug - then switch it to the water tank -going forward dispenses water and when you pull the machine back towards you it sucks everything up into a separate compartment. The amount of dirt it brings up is amazing and the carpets are only very slightly damp immediately after.Just a few things I will point out ( which is why I haven't given it 5 stars) before you buy!it is quite heavy - both to lift and to operate. it is like vacuuming with the heaviest hoover you can imagine! I find it a struggle as I have a back problem and it is quite a strain.it works great on rugs and dark carpets for general dirt but any inground spills are best removed first as it doesn't really do well once they are dried in.( I have used on red wine split on a carpet straight away and it brought everything up straight away but a sticky fizzy drink mark that was done before I bought the machine it had little effect on )the other thing I found - after use was that it had slightly stretched a 80% wool carpet.....and finally! make sure you reapply scotchgaurd to the carpet after use to protect it or it will get dirtier quicker as the operation will have taken off all the protection that was on.Even with these points - I love it - the results are great and the carpets/rugs look and smell so much better after use!

This is a nice carpet washer. It requires some assembly but comes with all screws needed. All that my husband need was a screw driver and he had it up and running in under 19 minutes. it also comes with instruction leaflet and sample shampoo. It is very easy to se. The measuring cup for shampoo is inbuilt in lid of shampooer. Simply put shampoo into reservoir and fill with warm water. There are really only 2 controls, one for the floor and one for tools. It is quite heavy but I found that the wheels were easy to manoeuvre. I did my kitchen carpet section by section by drawing slowly towards me with finger on trigger and I them repeated move without finger on trigger to draw fluid. Both the cleaning and the extraction of water from the carpet worked well and while carpet was not dry when I finished it was well on its way to dryness. i then turned dial to tools and used hose and tool to do stair carpet. Unfortunately you cannot do all stairs at once. You have to do half from bottom and half from top. It was a bit heavy to carry upstairs and in future will start at top of stairs as carrying it down is easier.. I did find that using the recommended amount of shampoo did cause a problem of too much frothy suds and machine did not work properly. i now use less shampoo and find it effective. Another issue I did have was that it is easy enough to rinse out water tank but it is very difficult to remove all of the the little grains dirt. We have looked and think that the top part under the lid may pull off but so far have been unable to do it. these are the 2 issues that made me downgrade to 4 star.

Really impressed with this heavy duty carpet cleaner from Bissell. It comes well packaged, easy to put together and everything feels well made abs built to last.Bissell offer a number of different carpet cleaner machines and this is one of the best. The extra price you pay for the water heater function is well worth it. It makes cleaning carpets much easier and more effective. The models without the water heater function are still very good, but I found this model much better. It constantly heats the water tank to ensure only hot water gets used on the carpet and it makes getting rid of more stubborn stains a doddle. I have quite hardwearing carpets and recently found a stain. Not exactly sure what it was but was pet related. I tried this machine on the affected area and it was completely gone after just one sweep. This works by spreading hot water mixed with the included (sample size) cleaning solutions, then sucking it all up. The result was brilliant. Carpets look much fresher and cleaner. I don't plan to use this too often, maybe once a month but it works out good value when compared to the cost and hassle of hiring more industrial cleaners. It's quite noisy but this is to be expected, but it's still quite easy to move around. I found the edge cleaning brushes got right up to carpet edges and the hand-held tool was great at getting into those small nooks and crannies. It's a simple to use, good quality cleaner which is more than a match for those from more expensive brands and I'd definitely recommend it. The extra power and heating facility is well worth paying extra for

The first thing you notice about this carpet cleaner is that it's huge, bigger than others we've had before. It needs a big space to store the cleaner as it doesn't really come apart easily, but the big question is: how well does it do the job?In the box you get 2 detergents, enough for a few washes so you'll need more after a short time, the cleaner itself, attachments for edges and a smaller head on a more flexible hose. You also get a short instruction booklet which takes you through the basics but doesn't really explain what the attachments are for in any detail.Simply remove the clear tank, fill the bladder inside with warm water from a tap (not boiling water though)and add the detergent shampoo to mix with the water, then place it back on the cleaner. It's that simple to get started, which is probably why the instruction booklet is so thin.So we have the big cleaner set up and the size seems to be compatible to the functionality as the Bissell Stainpro does wonders with carpet stains. Yes, it takes a little effort to push the main cleaner around but the results are worth it. You just squeeze the trigger and move the cleaner back and forth, watching the liquid bubble away and the dirt come back in to the machine. Even the smaller head is useful, though actually takes more effort to scrub with it, its meant for smaller patches and the long hose has enough length to cover further away areas. So, if you need a great cleaner and are not worried by the size and weight of this Bissell device then it comes heartily recommend.

Our bungalow has a lot of rooms with carpets, including a 10 meter long corridor. No matter how many times we vacuum I was always wondering how much more dust there would be hiding... Well this carpet washer certainly collected so much I almost felt ashamed. I am now going to give at least the corridor a monthly wash. The carpet washer comes in a box in 2 pieces you have to screw and a few holding things to be screwed as well. It took no more than 5 minutes to understand how to do it and do it.The instruction manual is very clear and I could straight away use the machine as it also came with a little bottle. With hot water from the tap in the reservoir and a dose of cleaner, I was off washing the carpet. It does not make more noise than a vacuum cleaner, is not too heavy to manoeuvre - all very easy really. The results are quite stunning. Not as stunning as the usual advertising, but the produce left a faint 'clean' door, not heavily perfumed, and as mentioned earlier, the resulting water was an eye opener. The carpet dried in a few hours. It is February, so I left the windows open to create a draft through the house. I did think it would take days and I would need to use a dehumidifier, but no. 2 hours later it was fine. And clean. The only thing is storage. It is one more machine to store. Thankfully it is light enough to be lifted in the loft via the small opening, and as I will be used only once a month and not daily, it can live there happily.
