I think it is a good bargain and works well on short pile carpet. I would recommend it for sure w any short pile carpeting,Berber,Matt's,area rugs,Oriental carpets, etc. It is easy to manage and sturdy, and a very reasonable price for good quality. Also,Bissell has a pet foundation, where they award grants to pet rescues across the country, small rescues and larger ones alike. So, if I didn't have to watch every penny, due to the fact that I am responsible for providing care for my many rescued pets,I would not have returned this product for the reason that, this is a useful product for most households,AND, this company really is charitable towards small groups who are helping to save lives of pets who are on death row at animal controls across the country.I had to return mine because it was not designed for what I need it for: i.e., large amounts of cat litter and fur galore AND in corners on linoleum/vinyl plank flooring. I'm sure it picks up a good amt of fur and litter from floors, and probably all litter and fur from any carpet. However,I have accepted that I cannot avoid the necessity for using a broom and dustpan for my household, because my household is basically a kennel. I have a lot of rescued cats and dogs, plus live in Georgia, where there's always so much clay dust, and mud being brought in from the dogs when they come back in from playing in the yard. The point is;that if I have to get out the broom everyday to get the litter and fur out from all the corners, before mopping; then I might as well just sweep the entire room w the broom as well.If you need a carpet/floor sweeper for scattered litter in the middle of the floor, from a few cats, then this product will be a great help to you. This ends my review of the Bissell sweeper.Below,I'm giving a helpful tip for anyone who finds them self in a similar situation to my own...w everyday mopping,sweeping,vacuuming...looking for a simpler way....theHoover floor cleaner is also not a solution because they still haven't corrected the problem, where it immediately loses suction when the machine vacuums up fur, while washing the floor. So ,even if you sweep prior to using it;the second it vacuums up a piece of fur you missed w the broom;it loses suction. They you have to open the dirt tank, rinse the rim,and close it again to continue. It becomes time consuming when you have to attend to suction canister 5 or 6 times when cleaning a large room. I don't want to try the Bissell similar product, because ai would hate to waste their money if I return it. I guess I will go on the Bissell floor cleaner listing and ask that question.

Some may find it odd that I rated each cleaning aspect with only 3 stars but gave the item a 4 star review. Ultimately, while I thought it didn't do a good job deep cleaning either wood floors or low carpet- I understand the limits of the design and thought it did a decent job for what it is and the price point. So now onto the review detail...This worked fine for sweeping up light debris (cat litter, tiny cardboard fragments from cat scratch pad, etc) on both wood floor and short carpet. While it gets the loose fragments, you will notice that it leaves behind whatever a gentle brushing wouldn't be able to bring up such as fine dust on a wood floor or cat hair that is laying flat and embeddedon carpet. It did pick up the loosest cat hair but you should be patient and be prepared to go over affected areas multiple times. Even so, it won't do the job of a power vacuum. But it does a good enough job on the short carpet where we have 3 rescue cats that we are trying not to spook with loud power vacuum noises- and this was reasonably quiet in operation.Given the simplicity of the design the results are about what I would expect. There are two brushes- one more concentrated and stiff than the other. One works going forward and the other works when pulling back. If the debris isn't loose enough they may not be aggressive enough to dislodge the particles to collect them. Also- since they are simple roller brushes you do occasionally see where they don't release the particles into the collection tray since some particles can break free during the exit portion of the rotation causing the particles to wind up on your floor again. But it's easy enough to just go over them again to get them up for good.Overall I think it is a decent manual sweeper for $25 which made my cat room much more presentable without stressing out my rescue cats. If you're expecting the same kind of sterile cleaning you get from motorized vacuum cleaners that tug all of the cat hair out of the carpet by brute force then you will be disappointed. But for my purposes it is doing what I need until my cats are settled in.Emptying was as easy as described...flip the little door open and then a brief shaking. One note on the assembly- in my opinion Bissell went with too fine a thread on the handle sections. I had to be very careful not to cross thread when I put it together. I can imagine some folks trying to quickly throw this together and destroying the threads and then not being able to complete the assembly.

I purchased this a few months ago and I have really come to like this product and depend on it. I have even donated my downstairs electric vacuum cleaner which I no longer need. I have hardwood floors with area rugs downstairs now so some may have a different experience if they have thick carpet.-Does a great job of picking up my cat's hair and my 2 daughter's and my wife's very long hair. I never even noticed how much hair my wife and kids seem to lose until I started using this. Must be from when they are brushing their hair downstairs.-It does a great job picking up dust and debris on the floor and on my area rugs as well, you do have to go back and forth sometimes to get some items but it will pick it up.(if it seems as if it is not picking up very well, it is probably full and needs to be emptied).-I did notice that after using it more than a few times that you do have to tighten the handle back on a little, it does tend to come loose. It is an easy fix but the company should address this. I am still not taking a star away, I really love this item..-I also like the fact that the product is partially made from recycled material.-I like the idea that it does not throw dust into the air like an electric vacuum does which could bother some people with allergies or that may have asthma like my wife.CONCLUSION: Inexpensive product that performs very well. This is the first manual sweeper I have ever used and I am very impressed. I like the fact that it is using no electricity to complete the job. No more cords to worry about being long enough and being able to find an electrical outlet. I am not saying this performs as good as an electrical vacuum cleaner but it sure does a good job picking up surface material. If a person is concerned about getting all of the debris that settles at the bottom of the carpet over time then having a professional steam and shampoo every so often may not be a bad idea.I just use mine pretty much everyday now and the dust and debris does not build up.Thanks for reading and I hope my review helped you.EDIT:My oldest daughter and my grandchildren came to visit and she liked this product so much that I ordered one and had it shipped to where she lives 8/2014. My daughter has thanked me several times, told me how much she loves it, and how great it is to have around the house. My daughters entire house is tile floor with rugs so this works out just perfect.

It arrived in the mail last week, and I've used it twice! I have rheumatoid arthritis, so it's a great way to sweep the hardwood & linoleum floors, and to pick up lint, hair from cutting my husband's hair for his National Guard drill weekends, and dry spills off the rugs and carpets without bending over with a handbroom & dustpan or lint remover.I'm not sure why people expect a sweeper to pick up everything on 1 sweep. Lint is so difficult to pick up because of static (and its fibrousness - but I deal with static more, so I'm only addressing static), so how effectively the Bissell sweeper works depends on how staticky (is this a real word?) the brushes' bristles are and the weather and the climate you live in.I live in New England, and in the past, I've found that brushing is the only way to really remove lint out of my lint-loving rugs without investing in a $300+ vacuum. So I decided to get a Bissell dual brush sweeper, because I felt too much like a Victorian housemaid, hand brushing my carpets & rugs. My back is getting older. I have a lot more respect for Victorian housemaids now, but I'm ready to clean in the 21st century. Most brushes' bristles are staticky to begin with, because the plastic they're made of are designed to be staticky, and some are treated with a substance to make them more staticky (but this wears off after a while, in my experience). If your carpets/rugs are more staticky because of cold and/or dry weather, the dirt may be just as attracted to your carpet as the Bissell's brush. So the lint'll transfer from brush to carpet and back again whenever it feels like it. Make sure you clean the lint off your bristles, or it'll probably appear on your carpet again. And frankly, some lint is just so clingy, you have to use a sticky-paper lint remover (I did this when I was in a carpeted dorm room! Works wonders on hair.). If the weather's really dry/cold and causing your carpet to be staticky, you could try misting a little water on the rug/carpet to reduce static. i would only try this when its really really dry, so the carpet dries quickly. A damp carpet just seems unhygienic.Regarding the handle issue, I haven't pounded it in yet per other reviews' recommendations (and no, there were no instructions either in or on the box), but being short (5'1"), I don't mind that it falls off.All in all, I'm a big fan. My husband laughs at how delighted I am with this purchase. :)

I’ve been looking for something lightweight to clean up small messes on the rug and the floor under the kitchen table between deep cleaning days. I went with this Bissell sweeper because I liked how it doesn’t use electricity, and therefore is wire-free. And I’m very happy with my Bissell vacuum. I’ve also seen these types of sweepers used in restaurants and I’ve been impressed with how well they work. I’ve been through several cheap stick vacuums now because they never last - they work well when they’re new, but eventually they just die on me. I wanted something different from a stick vacuum but at the same time I needed something that would work. And I wanted something lightweight for between cleaning sessions. So,I am happy with this purchase. This sweeper was easy to set-up, all I had to do was screw the poles together and put the handle on the sweeper. Right out of the box it gathered all dog hair and made the carpet look like I’d just vacuumed. It easily brushes up crumbs on hardwood floors under the kitchen table. I appreciate how easy this is to empty the dirt cup, and how easy it is to get hair out of the roller brushes. So simple, even the kids can take turns pushing it around.Overall I am happy with my purchase. This sweeper is so easy to use and it works very well, even better than what I expected on both my floor and carpet. I was torn between considering this or yet another small stick-vacuum, and I’m really happy I went with this. I was concerned without power suction this would not sweep up at all, but my worries were unfounded. I love not having to worry about wires, and this sweeper is silent. I can sweep up easily and effortlessly in my sleep at 3 AM if I wanted to - no dust pan, electricity, or effort required.UPDATE: June 26, 2020 - So far so good. The little poles you screw together and put the handle on became stripped and kept coming apart, maybe because I was too rough and tightened too much when putting it together. It’s nothing a little super glue can’t handle, and this thing is so compact I know I won’t want to take it apart again so I don’t mind gluing it permanently together. For the price, I don’t mind. If my review helped you, please let me know by hitting the helpful button. Thank you!

I started out buying the Fuller brush sweeper and loved it so much (read: no technology) I thought I’d get another. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. That may sound lazy but it’s all about convenience sometimes. I decided to go with a cheaper model the second time around so I opted for the Bissell floor sweeper. The Bissell has a much larger head and slightly longer handle. You can see the diff in the pics and mesmerizing video, which is a side by side comparison. I have no idea why I took it this far but I was genuinely curious if there was a diff between the $60 sweeper (Smaller overall. Kitschy colors) and the $20-30 brand ( Larger. Not quite as tight brushes)and the whole process highly entertained my husband. I think him watching me spill rice, oatmeal and flower onto my rug was well worth the effort. They weigh the same - between 2&3 lbs. I find the Fuller brush model to be a little bit more resistant when sweeping but I also think it picks up smaller particles faster as can be seen in the video. The Bissell model is easier to push and rolls better but it takes a few more sweeps to achieve the same level of cleanliness. None of these sweepers are meant to replace a traditional electric vacuum. For me it’s all about picking up the crumbs and the dog hair in between the regular vacuuming. Because they both can lie almost completely flat, it’s great for getting under furniture too. Just don’t ask too much of either model. They aren’t going to pick up huge pieces of debris or be equal to an electric vacuum cleaner. I truly like both models. I use the Fuller sweeper on really small stuff like powder. Both models have TWO reservoirs for dirt but the Bissell has springs so don’t stay open on their own. It can be a tad tricky to clean them. The Fuller brush reservoirs stay open so I can clean them easier. I wish it was larger with a longer handle like the Bissell. I do feel like the Fuller model picks up more overall but dollar for dollar, the Bissell works just fine. Any questions I can answer? I’ll do my best. Thanks for reading my review. Cheers!

The handle came in separate pieces that screw together. This seems to be something new compared to other reviewers talking about tapered pieces of metal.I guess I was expecting a bit more out of this item.I thought I would just have to go over a spot once or twice, like I do with my vacuum. However you have go over a spot multiple times to pick up everything. So even though you don't have a cord like a vacuum, it takes longer to use. And you have to empty it much more frequently than the vacuum too.The whole construction feels lighter and a bit flimsier than I was expecting too. But then again my only previous experience with a brush sweeper was with a huge antique brush sweeper. So I guess things have changed since then. The handle is about two feet too short for comfortable using on carpet. On carpet you seem to have to press down in order to get the bristles to pick up the dirt. But the handle is shorter than a broom or mop handle. So in order to press down and move it around you have to bend over into an uncomfortable position. On a hard floor you don't really have to push down so then the handle is okay. I guess it's about the height of a regular vacuum handle. But it really is a bit too short. The corner brushes are kind of a joke. They don't seem very effective, or to have any affect at all.Emptying the dirt catches is easy, but you do have to press right on the bottom of the sweeper. There isn't a way to do so and keep your hands away from the dirt and dust without wearing gloves. Since I use this to sweep up cat litter I find this a bit gross.I also thought it would be very quiet. And while it is much, much more quiet than a vacuum, it is much louder than I expected it to be. It makes rolling and some squeaking sounds. My cats aren't frightened by it though, and I can use it during late hour of the night when vacuuming would be rude. And since that is the main reason I bought it, and it does the job okay, I gave it four stars.

I live in a small, carpeted, single bedroom house with 3 cats. I also work nights. When I had a day job I would just vacuum daily everyone was awake, no problem. But now when I get home everyone is asleep. Turning the vacuum on would just wake everyone up and I don’t have the heart to do that. I got tired of stepping on litter tracked out by the cats and cat food crumbs piling up around their bowls. I still vacuum on my day off when I won’t disturb anyone. I bought this sweeper to let me keep up with the cat food and cat litter messes on days I can’t vacuum. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the product. Cat food crumbs are rather small so I was worried it wouldn’t pick them up.Even the most difficult tiny pieces of food can still be picked up by this sweeper, along with cat hair and cat litter! I wasn’t expecting this product to be so good since I didn’t spend much money on it. I got curious to see if it would work on the tile floor in my kitchen. It does not work well on flat floors, but I’m okay with that because I specifically bought this product for my carpeted areas anyway. Be sure to dump after each cleaning because the compartment it holds the debris in is very small. But that’s okay for me cause my house is very small. If you have a larger carpeted house with pets or messy kids I’d recommend keeping one of these at the front door and one at the back door, or maybe buy one of these for the carpet and buy another for your kitchen meant for flat floors. I still use my broom for the kitchen, my kitchen is small so I don’t mind. It also folds-up when you’re done so you can either hang it on a wall or tuck it in a corner and it’s out of the way til you need it again. This product is really helpful and works well. I’m so glad I can continue keeping my house clean without waking my husband. I even caught him using it the other day to pick up some thumb tacks he spilled on the carpet when he opened the package. Lol

Please note the other "helpful" reviews were written in 2009, this one on the last day of 2015. I liked those reviews and they helped me to decide to purchase this sweeper. That said, I called attention to the time difference because they must have changed the design; each tube of the handle screws (gently) onto the next; so, there is no "striking against a hard surface" to ensure they are tightly connected before screwing the entire handle onto the sweeper. In fact , to do so would likely strip the threads.Screw the tubes together slowly and with a careful eye: you will feel like a dust bunny assassin assembling a silencer to attach to your sweeper weapon!Once assembled, this baby is a very fine sweeper. We have a small office with three carpeted rooms and a tiled entry. The sweeper cleared the carpet very well and I was surprised that it picked up the bits and pieces that accumulate on the tile floor also: So it is good for light clean up of hard surfaced floors as well.I was getting tired of lugging around the vacuum at the end of some days where there was stuff (small pieces of paper etc.) that could be swept up with the proper equipment..I gave 4 stars only because it says "easy empty pans" and I haven't had to do that yet; also,it says "no-slip handle." That's stretching the truth a bit--the handle is a hard plastic; and while I didn't have any problem with it, it could have benefited from a corrugated rubberized handle. Truth be told though, if they hadn't called attention to the handle I may not have noticed. All in all, I am very satisfied with the Bissell Sweeper and would recommend it for light touch up work. Just remember: This version's handle is threaded (screwed) together and not forced. It's a real good sweeper considering how badly some stuff is made today. I'm gonna mosy off into the other room now and "silence" somedust.

Received the sweeper today and put it to the test.In fact I purposely didn't use my vacuum cleaner letting the normal sweepable debris collect because I really wanted to see how good this sweeper was. Also to test how it could replace lugging the vacuum out and just use the sweeper for quick cleaning. The handle extensions all just screw together and screw to the unit, simple, secure and fast...perfect!Well I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with it's ability to do almost as good a job as the vacuum. 98-99% of debris is picked up on the first or second sweep & 99.99% of the dirt stayed in the cup as it was getting more filled. All types of flooring were swept, low carpeting, berber, laminate flooring, throw rugs, basement flooring etc. The only thing this thing can't do is nooks and crannies that you actually need a vacuum for. Edge cleaner was quite good considering it has 1 little stationary in each corner. Unit is light but just heavy enough for the 2 sweeping brushes do their job. The 2 spring loaded catch trays just flip down to empty, no parts to take off or lose. I was also surprised by what I didn't see on the floors come out of the catch trays, it looked like the stuff that I empty from my vacuum. As with any brush or beater bar just pull off any debris that sticks to or wraps around the brushes like hair or threads etc to keep it clean and effective. It makes quick cleaning a pleasure instead of a chore. No cords, no noise. Handle folds flat against the unit and can be hung up on the wall out of the way. Overall this was a great investment making house work a bit easier and convenient. The build quality seems sturdy enough to last a long time. I would never be without one of these on hand because it works so well.

We use this to pick up small debris such as crumbs, chips of wood, and dead insects. It works extremely well on hard floors of any kind. The two brushes are very effective working in both push and pull directions. The machine picks up almost everything on a single pass.It is amazingly light and easy to use. Physically it's about 1/10th the effort of using a vacuum cleaner, although unlike a vac, you cannot suck out corners, cracks, and fines with it. It fits under most furniture. There are two spring loaded trays that empty easily by pushing open the trays. This is a lot easier and faster than having to use removable trays. It stands up by itself when not in use, unlike a broom or a canister vac.The unit I received had screw on handles. The sections of the handle screw together and then screw into the base unit. Assembly to working time was less than 3 minutes and I did not need to read any instructions. Anyone who cannot assemble this unit on mere inspection probably should not operate a motor vehicle or ride a bicycle. There is no banging with hammers or other problems as mentioned by other reviewers. The product appears to have been revised, quite possibly as a result of customer feedback.I am considering getting two more of these units, one for each floor, but the thing is so light and convenient to use, taking it from one floor to another is as easy as picking up a broom or a mop.I did not test the unit on carpet, I don't expect it to sweep up fine dust or perform that well on hair or fuzz, nor do I expect it to replace a vacuum or even a broom or mop. This is a different and specialized tool that can save you a lot of work and time if used properly and in conjunction with the other tools available.

I live in a town home that has hardwood downstairs and all carpet upstairs. I have a very high shedding dog, I have long hair, and downstairs I have a cowhide rug. My roommate is also allergic to pet dander. So I have to constantly try to keep up.I bought this because vacuuming every other day as well as hauling the vacuum cleaner upstairs or downstairs constantly was annoying. I also own a regular Swiffer, but buying the Jumbo generic replacement clothes was adding up, and that cannot always get the big stuff. For me, I would have to use 5-6 Swiffer pads to get all of the dog hair. It does not help that my dog is scared of both the Swiffer and the vacuum.I did not read the instructions for assembly.I didn't need to, it's that easy. A test run downstairs on the hardwood picked up a lot of fur, leaves, and dirt. It also worked just fine on the cow skin rug. The vacuum cleaner would try to suck the rug up which had me worry about damaging it...so this is Perfect. I took it upstairs to try on the carpet, being very skeptical. It did manage to perform on the carpet, picking up hair and larger debris. That being said, this will not replace a vacuum cleaner or omopping. It is more for a quick fix not a deep clean it also, the bristles get tangled and clogged with my long hair so when I notice that it's not performing like how I want it to, there's probably too much of my hair on the bristles. But, you can pop the bristles out in order to clean them pretty easily, so it's not a total deal breaker for me.The only other issue that I had, was both my boyfriend and my roommate calling me grandma because apparently only their grandparents owned these. Well, I guess I am one clean grandma so they can bite me.

This is the perfect sweeper for my small cabin. I have unfinished wood, carpets, and stick down tiles. I know, the stick downs have to go, but hey, it's a cabin! Anyway, we track in all kinds of dirt, mud, sticks and leaves. We have a wood stove, so there are always bits of wood around the stove, and ashes fall on the floor when I clean out the stove. This small sweeper gets it all, on all surfaces. Sure, a big vac would do better on the carpets, but that would mean starting up the generator, and who wants to do that, when this dear thing will do the job well enough, at least for those in-between times. It works really well on my bare floors. The small size makes it easy to get under the table and around the many tight spaces in my small bit of home in heaven. It filled fairly quickly with stuff, but is very easy to empty. There are two small doors that are spring loaded and they are simple to open with one hand, while you hold the sweeper over the trashcan. (Why didn't I just dump that stuff off the porch? Hmmm, well, next time!)It is so easy to store, light, and easier than a broom to use. No need for a dustpan. No digging for the dustpan that always seems to be somewhere on the floor in the corner. A broom is simple to use...this is easier, and actually is kind of fun. One minute..stuff. Next, gone.It looks as if it is a good quality and was very simple to assemble.I have only one small complaint. It is kind of noisy as it rolls over the bare floor. My husband even commented about that. Not anywhere near as loud as a vacuum, but it is easy to hear when you are using it. Not in an objectionable way, but I was a little bit surprised.I would purchase this again.

We have a puppy and it never fails that the moment the house is vacuumed she tears up a stick, pulls the stuffing out of her toy, brings in a nice crunchy leaf to shred, etc. Needless ot say I got tired of breaking out the vacuum right quick. I've not owned a Bissell product in some time, but back in the day they produced good stuff so I went with the Bissell. I don't have a single complaint about this item. It works beautifully on the indoor/outdoor 8x10 rug, medium pile carpet, and ceramic floor. To be honest, I didn't expect it to work on the tile, but found it does a great job if I slow the push/pull motion (else the debris kind of bounces around). So far I've used it successfully on food crumbs, pet and human hair, shredded tp roll, toy stuffing, unseen lint, twig particles, dried grass, crumbled leafs, and so on. It's so light and easy to use that I'll start out cleaning up a puppy mess, and end up going down the hall and into the kitchen as well. I changes surfaces with ease, going from the tile floor to floor mat no problem. I'm always surprised at the amount of debris that comes out when I empty it. An unexpected boon is how easy it is to clean. I have long hair that loves to wrap itself around rollers, be it the carpet sweeper or the vacuum. With our vacuum I have to break out scissors and tweezers to get my hair out of the rollers; a tedious time consuming and somewhat difficult job. I'm able to clean the roller brushes on the sweeper in seconds thanks in part to the brush design and the best part is that I'm able to pull my hair out of the rollers using nothing but my fingers. I am ever so glad I purchased this Bissell sweeper.

I bought this sweeper for my kindergarten classroom, which has 80% carpeted floors. My students and I love to use this sweeper to clean up little scraps of paper, playdough, mulch/mud tracked in from the playground, pencil sharpener shavings that spilled, etc. We often spot clean during the break between AM & PM sessions. It is effective on the low-pile carpet and tiled floor. I removed one section of the handle so that it's a better height for the kids to use.I love it so much that I bought one for my house as well. Keeping up with forty-five kindergarten students tends to wear me out, so I get a little lazy about cleaning the house when I get home. Zipping this sweeper around is SO much quicker and easier than dragging out the noisy, heavier vacuum and maneuvering around the cord just to clean up leaves/grass/mud etc tracked in by my dog and other family members. So far it has effectively cleaned up everything on various floor surfaces at my house.Plus it makes me think of my grandma and the sweeper I used during visits to her house. I like to think of her smiling down on me from heaven each time I use it.UPDATE: My school sweeper is holding up well despite heavy use by young children. I have to twist the handle every once in a while to tighten the screws, but it only takes a second. The rubber bumper sometimes pops off when kids bump into a few too many chair/table legs. It is quick and easy to reattach. My students consider using the sweeper a privilege and are quick to call "dibs" on using it during indoor recess or while waiting for their bus to be called at dismissal. I still highly recommend it!
