I have not purchased this Weller solder iron but I just wanted to let people know about this one, as I have used it within the electronics industry for a number of years to do soldering work on electronic circuit boards (computer motherboards, satellite receiver boards and mobile phone circuit boards). This solder iron is the industry-choice and I can 'highly' recommend it, as I am a former solderer who utilised this iron for over 9 years within the electronics industry. The iron is very reliable. It keeps its heat, but ensure that you also purchase the correct type of solder wire and the correct size of solder tip for the particular job that you intend to carry out.Fine work requires a fine pointed solder iron tip to be placed on the iron but heavier work will require a thicker solder tip.You also need to purchase liquid flux. - Some rolls of solder wire state that they have flux built-in, but you are as well to buy a tub of flux just in-case the solder wire roll doesn't flow that great. A sponge (to clean your iron) and a solder iron holder would be beneficial. You can also purchase 'solder braid' (also known as solder wick) which looks a bit like untreated flattened braided copper wire. - You place this on any excess solder joints that you have made and then you place your solder iron on to the braid and when the braid is heated by the iron, the braid lifts the excess solder away from your joint, which in essence allows you to redo your joint to a better standard.Definitely go for this iron. - It is the best out of the lot of them that I have researched on Amazon.Hope this helps.Former Proud Solderer / PCB Repairer.

I've been using one of these professionally for about 8 years. lovely iron does the job as it regulates its own heat so no overheating. For the someone who is truly full time leading then the 200W model would be better but this is fine for light professional. If you are only doing it as a hobby I would suggest the much cheaper 80W weller model as that is fine for that use. Incidently the one thing I don't like a bout this iron is the chistle tip. It means you have to hold the iron very flat to get a good joint. The rounded bullnose on the cheaper 80W iron is MUCH better. However the tips on these are thermostatic and non interchangeable with the non thermostatic.I spent years trying to find a thermostatic bullnose and was repeatedly told that they don't exist. Then last year I went to Holland and guess what, all these stained glass spec irons there are sold with a thermostatic bullnose, AS STANDARD. I bought two spares to use in my iron back here!!!!

I have been using this soldering iron in adult ed class for 2 terms and decided to splash out. It is a thought at this price but was guided by the fact that 12 people more than twice a week use this iron......and it still works well. Out of the box this morning.....read instructions as soon as delivered and switched on. It is working perfectly. Still practicing cutting and soldering on scrap glass as will be obvious from images attached. Would recommend a heavier duty stand. The one that is included arrives flat as needs to be bent into shape.........it works but is prone to shifting and the cable gets in the way so too lightweight. There are others stands that are heavier duty.Would recommend this Weller model for stained glass work as it is thermostatically controlled and replacement parts can be bought online..

The Weller W101d Temperature Controlled Iron 100w is perfect for me in my Stained Glass Copper Foil soldering. The W101 maintained good temperature of the molten solder that was able to quickly solidify, any hotter and the solder would have been too molten. Good product.

I was recommended this soldering iron for stain glass projects. My initial thought was that it was too expensive but several other makers recommended it so took the plunge and purchased it. Must say it is brilliant, so much better than my original iron.

This is the correct soldering iron for stained glass as used by everyone, everywhere. At the time of buying this was much cheaper on amazon than stained glass suppliers. The stand it comes with is total rubbish, that’s why it gets 4* not 5*.

I'm a beginner at copper foil stained glass art. Have found this to be a fantastic iron for using with K grade solder. Only have the tip it came with but am managing to do detailed work with it all the same.
