Good tool for indoor use, not powerful enough to use outside even in good weather, looses heat too quickly. Large conical / pointed tip makes for slower heat recovery and more difficult heat transfer. Might try flattening the tip with a file. Having said that, the tool works well enough soldering spade connectors in the cabin. At 15w was always going to struggle with larger conductors, but is fine with the 5amp tinned cable I'm using, and copes with the 10amp stuff.Cigar connectors are not the most reliable and I have spent a good deal of time waiting for the iron to warm up only to find that the plug wasn't making contact.Problem cured by removing the plug and replacing with a terminal block and a couple of alternative electrical connectors more suited to my use.Now considering one of those small gas torches for the work I need to do in the open and for soldering thicker conductors!Dispatch and delivery service was excellent.

This Draper soldering iron has reasonable build quality - certainly easily good enough for occasional or hobby use. For the first few minutes on first use, the iron produced some smoke from the heating element area. Presumably this is normal for a brand new iron. It hasn't done this on subsequent uses. The iron was bought specifically to solder electrical connectors to heavy guage cables (cables capable of carrying over 60Amps). It heats up quickly from plugging in and heats the work to be soldered within a couple of seconds. The handle stays cool, although I haven't used it for prolonged periods. All-in-all a good product, especially considering the price.

The iron is as described and works well,it does seem to get a bit hot compared to my other irons. Perhaps it is designed for use with leadless solder which I do not use. This shows as a burning of the tinned point after prolonged use.I will probably getused to it, but I only use lead solder of which I have adequate stocks using recoved solder from old PCBs. May be contrary to current views but the relatively small amount won't upset the world. The size of current components largely excludes much use.Overall it is a good product.R J Barber

The iron was well packaged and arrived safely. On unpacking and switching on for a test it did not disappointing. It heated up quickly and was easy to tin and then use to make a joint with tinplate. The problem with soldering tinplate is that the heat is quickly dissipated away from the solder area unless the iron has (a) a flat bit and (b) sufficient power to deliver heat to the metals to be joined. This iron is fine for this kind of work. I look forward to creating lots of things with my Draper!

I have recently purchased this Draper 71418 230-Volt 60-Watt Soldering Iron... it is a great piece of kit and works well in every way but the tip it comes with is shaped as a phillips screwdriver tip, so basicly if you want a soldering iron for small and fiddly stuff change the tip. Overall i rate this product 5/5 stars and i congratulate Draper for making such a great soldering iron. Definately the best soldering iron on amazon. A great buy!

I've soldered electronic components in the past but I bought this to splice in towbar wiring. Even with a chill wind blowing this heated up quickly and delivered a powerful heat source at the tip. Sadly I created a bit of a mess with the plastic sheathing because I was too slow. Nothing that a bit of electrical tape didn't sort out.

I needed a soldering iron, this one was the cheapest of the 25 watt ones offered, came with a little pressed steel stand, which to be used carefully as it is on the light side, and the elasticity of the irons cable can flip it off. That aside it does exactly what it says on the box, and I am very pleased with it.

Bought as a 'stocking filler' gift for my brother because this is what he asked for.Perfect general purpose soldering iron, which has mostly been used on vehicle wiring loom repairs.Too big for electronics really, but would do in a pinch if needed?Heats up quickly and is nice to use. Good value.

It was a long time since I have done any soldering. I bought this for a reasonably priced item for a brand i recognize. Works well, heats up quickly, stand that comes with it is simple but works well. Handle doesnt get hot, even when used for a long period of time.Would recommend.

I wanted a fairly cheap soldering iron to start working on some simple electrical circuits. This one is perfectly good for my needs, although it definitely would be worth investing in a decent stand for it - the little metal thing it comes with is really terrible to use.

I love my new soldering iron, I use it for most off all my soldering needs. However the tip seems to have oxidised away very quickly leaving me with small concave hole where I used to proudly own a chisel tip. The tips seem quite expensive given the cost of a new iron?

Another great quality product from Draper. I`ve bought and used Draper products for many years and I like the good robust quality of their range of products. This high power soldering iron is very good for larger repair jobs when used with the correct size solder.

This soldering Iron comes with one tip but this can be changed to differing types if necessary, this means that I can solder items when model making or doing general repairs around the house. Comes with it's own stand. Good value, useful tool.

This is a very nice soldering iron and heats up very fast but it can get too hot if you want it for soldering on circuit boards. Vey well made, the metal stand is crap and there's no hook to hang it anywhere, had to fit one myself.
