I have a need to solder a lot of connectors on heavy gauge wire, and have been muddling along with an '80 watt' gas powered soldering iron. Having purchased this proper mains powered iron, I wish I'd done it years ago.Heats up quickly (to a cherry red on the element, be very, very careful), and gets heat into very heavy wire very quickly indeed. It has completely transformed my soldering of EC5 and XT90 connectors. So much easier with the right tools.Just be careful with connectors- this iron transfers heat so quickly, it's possible to melt the plastic housings (even then nylon XT90) in a matter of a few seconds. Work swiftly.Brilliant.

very satisfied ... needed around 8-10 minutes to warm up for decent temperature, simple -great design! no extra on/of button no extra potentiometer for temperature control, not need that! because you will put on max, 400 celsius to melt the soldier wire or the tin on electrical circuit (would be happy for 450-480 celsius, but its ok), 3 led lights are ok, the cable the handle are good materials, comfortable to use, tips are ok, easy to change, not need a plier or extra tool to tighten the tip, , just 25w but it's enough, amazon have the tips as well , easy to order a replacement: Weller MT1 Replacement Soldering Tip

High quality, you get what you pay for,no reason should not last a lifetime, toyed with getting one from obscure manufacure abroad but didnt want to risk it !Weller has had a good name all my life and i like this design and the LED's are a good idea, screw in irons are a good idea ,stand is a bit hopeless though IMHOThe strange tool is a bit pointless i think,i know why they did it but no one is ever going to say oh i need to find that funny tool just to scrape a bit of gunk off a PCB,by the time you find it you will have used anything else pretty muchNice bullet proof packaging as expected

I basically got what I have expected. It comes with 3 tips, they can be replaced with a small screwdriver. For the price it is a very good package, you might get a different one for a few bucks cheaper, but this one is suitable for most tasks due to the different tips and its a Weller. The iron takes 3-4 minutes to heat up. I personally did not like the built in LED-s, they do not help too much but the handle accomodating the LEDs is too wide at the base. But otherwise this is the perfect starter soldering iron. A stand needs to be bought separately.

80w Iron heats up very quickly, I used to tin 0.6mm copper sheet and solder it. Handeled very well as spent an afternoon with constant use. Tip was good and didn’t ware as some users experienced. Having said that if tip does ware just file back into shape, simples ?Added a week later..... so after a substantial amount of use now (everyday) for hours this iron has surpassed its self.... fantastic for very heavy duty soldering of copper sheet used to make copper artwork! Highly recommend (except don’t buy for use of fine soldering) ?

A good iron. Heats fairly quickly and has certainly done the job intended without a problem. The stand is not good though it is to bendy not so much of an issue for me as I have a much better older one. The flex is not very flexible not a problem when working at a bench but is annoying when working away from it. The LEDs do help but not greatly but any extra light is always a bonus. Overall its good value for the money in have used weller products for years and they have all been fine so I'm sure this will be as well.

I got this soldering iron as a spare one. This type of soldering iron is not designed to stay on all day long. It is bound to overheat. You need a soldering station with a temperature controller, or a soldering gun. I have both, but I do like this soldering iron, especially with the led lights. I have found several soldering irons where the tips have disintegrated. It's best to not let them get too hot! I unplug mine when I'm not using it, even for a couple of minutes.

I am not a expert when it comes to soldering, I previously used two soldering irons purchased from China both irons were faulty, so I decided to buy this 80W Weller Soldering Iron, have used it for making 18v and 24volt battery packs for cordless power tools, it comes with the large tip which was ok for soldering nickel tabs to batteries, I later purchased the smaller tip to use on soldering small wires together, it is quality soldering iron would definitely recommend.

I have used Weller soldering irons since before I went self-employed 46 years ago, so no reason to change. My irons are on for long periods while building small scale railway models. I use Weller 25 watt, 40 watt and occasionally the 80 watt, although the 40 watt does 90% of the work. The tips soon deteriorate but that is down to the liquid flux I mix. Fancy variable heat irons suit some people. I get on better with a 'constant' heat source.

Always buy quality tools... Weller make v good soldering kit, their price is higher than some, but it's real value because the things work well. Reaches temp quickly, is tractable. Could do with a longer lead. Has given me great results over the rubbish I've wasted time and money on previously. If you're gonna buy a solder iron, get a decent make and pay a little extra. It's def worth it.

Nice quality Weller 25W soldering iron kit. the bright LED's make precision soldering much easier. The handle is comfortable & ensures a secure hold on the iron & the flex is not so thick that it 'fights' you. Three different tips cover most jobs, a small metal stand & tool the purpose of which I've yet to ascertain! All in all I'm very pleased.

Bought this for small projects I am an electrician to trade and found this soldering iron worked well it heated up quickly comes with a few different tip sizes which is useful you can change by loosening a small grub screw with a flat screwdriver. Would recommend for anyone needing a soldering iron for projects around the house.

Bought this for my DIY guitar pedals. Heats up very quickly and does the job. The sharp bit is awesome when you're working on PCB's where components are very close together. The LEDs are ok, but I honestly wouldn't rely on them for lighting, they're not that strong but they're good for an extra bit of lighting.

an excellent soldering iron, maybe not the best thing for use ever day/ tradesmen but for me just doing some intricate wiring every now and then it is perfect, the LED lights on the end of the handle are a very nice touch, really help you see what you are doing :P

5* for the fact that it arrived today after ordering it 9am yesterday! Unfortunately, can't give it a full review yet as its a Christmas present for hubby, but from what I've seen of numerous reviews mainly working in dashboards of cars, this will be amazing!
