I've had the analog bargraph display version of this now for 20 years. it's the same iron but under the "Eagle" brand. It has been ill treated and abused. Thrown around the back of a van on a daily basis for half of it's life, then often left switched on for several days (dare I say on occasion a few weeks) at a time on a workbench for the rest. It's had pretty much daily use for the past 6 years, doing many of the things one is not supposed to do with a soldering iron like melting holes in plastic, re-working hot glue, it's had several new tips and it's second heater element has just failed (the PSU is still OK). The iron holder fell off and got lost in the back of the van years ago and now has a generic 'spring'holder wedged into the slot that held the original one.Things I like about it:It has a very flexible and heat resistant cable between the iron and the base.It holds heat well and doesn't struggle with large terminals It will just solder a 8mm lug on 16mm cable, but not in a breeze. The base is fairly heavy so it doesn't move about the bench when removing and replacing the iron, but not heavy enough to operate the power switch one-fingered without it sliding away.It is capable of SMD re-work and spider mounting QFN chips. It heats up quickly. It has only let me down twice in 20 years despite the abusive treatment it has suffered at my hands and those of several apprentices.Things I don't like:The yellow silicone finger grip has worked loose and keeps sliding down the iron. Perhaps a squeeze of silicone sealant will fix thisIt gets hot around the neck of the finger grip. The iron cable is too short and the base too heavy for working off a ladder so it's not that good for field work, but it performs much better than a generic 40W mains iron if the base can be balanced on something within reach of the job - like the aforesaid apprentice for instance .The base is not in any way heat resistant, and after a few misses with the iron holder and the occasional solder splatter it quickly loses its looks. The sponge or tray won't stay in the well. I lost mine after a few months. I use a copper wire sponge cleaner as it is much better anyway. It has served me well, but It's time for a new one. I'm going to treat it to a new element anyhow and keep it as a back-up. After all - 2 irons are great for removing SMDs

Excellent - very pleased with this soldering iron. I had been concerned that it would be like so many other soldering irons and not sense the temperature at the tip. Some soldering irons do not have a sensor at the tip and just use PID algorithm to get the temperature about right. When I wipe it on the wet sponge to clean the tip the heat light switches on, not sure whether this is indicative that it has a tip sensor but to me it indicates that the slight cooling from the wet sponge means that the iron is sensing that it needs to supply more heat to the tip.

This is the best soldering iron ill probably ever use and its defo the best quality, its very heavy with a 24volt iron, and it digitally locks the temperature to whatever you set it at, Heats up to working temp in 25 seconds and you can buy various tips for this from screwdriver type tips right down to 1 mm ultra fine smt tips. Bought mine for my model railway as was sick and tired of cheap irons burning out all the time. Its a very good iron, buy one!

Great soldering station, in a different league to the cheap and cheerful stand-alone irons you can get for £10 or £20. Temp control seems precise enough.I use it mainly to build guitar effects pedals and instrument cables, and the results are brilliant. I also bought an additional set of tips that included an extra-fine pin sharp one for work on cramped pcb’s. The included tip would be ok at a push, though.

Excellent item. Accurate temperature control and the build is sturdy and of good quality. The seller was very good and the delivery was quick. Form my experience I could recommend both seller and item.

Coming from a cheap handheld iron to this has been a revelation, I've honestly become a good solderer and I never thought I would be. Wish it had a range of tips in the package but otherwise great

A hot item with a 'melt in your mouth effect. I do like the price and the iron is nice to use, but do not ring me while I am using it or I may poke my ear with it

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit. Using it for jewellery making and love it. Variable temperature control is a real boost. Great value for money.

I do a lot of small printed circuit board and with temperature control I don't burn the boards and the tips are easy to get.

This is a low cost soldering station that actually works and maintains good temperature control.
