Firstly I have used soldering irons for over 50 years in various guises, and have also taught electronics, but now my old Maplin gas soldering iron tip is useless, (not bad considering it has had lots of use for over 15 years !) so I needed a replacement. You have to remember that ANY soldering iron gets hot and this applies more so to portable soldering irons because they use gas, and the heat will escape in more areas that say an mains powered iron does, so you have to be much more vigilant when using a gas iron or you will burn yourself or components around where you are trying to solder, but this is just the 'nature of the beast' I'm afraid,if you use a mains soldering iron the same dangers are there of course - saying it is 'easy to burn yourself', just means you aren't taking enough care and nothing more than that.I looked at least 30+ different makes and models before deciding on this one, to me price really didn't matter whether it was £20 or £100, but the one thing I DID want was the ability to get a replacement tip and when you look into that my favourite brand of all time was totally eliminated... and so a lot of other brands were eliminated too.Needless to say when I purchased this, I purchased 2 spare tips as well. When I purchased my Maplins gas iron I bought 2 spare tips, had I not done that I would have only has around 4-5 years of uses and not 15, and tips do wear out, especially if you are using an acid flux.I spent 4 weeks thoroughly researching all theses irons, reviews and the availability of spare tips and this is the ONLY one that meets these requirement, please feel free to do the same exercise if you wish !The iron itself is well built, slightly more bulky then my previous iron but that is OK by me.You need to fill the iron with lighter gas, and I found that if you buy really cheap gas it tends to smell a lot more than the more expensive ones, you will of course get a little smell anyway... because it is gas. When it is full of gas you will get a slight liquid spill fron the filling area, so just stop then.It comes with a selection of tips (as did the Maplins one) but for me personally I will only use the standard soldering tip (as fitted on the iron when you receive it) and the 'heat shrink' attachment. You ignite the iron with the button and you can then lock it on to, so it doesn't go out when you release the button. You can then regulate the flame/temperature with the lever. The first week I had this, I joined about 150 wires which where then covered with heat shrink, and the second week I did about 100 more so it got plenty of use, you do need to clean the tip on the sponge provided, after soaking it water then squeezing it out, so it is just damp but don't get obsessed doing this, only do it when needed, when the end of the tip is black, with the excessive flux from the solder.I do have a top of the range mains powered soldering station which I love but this is and excellent iron for use where mains isn't available, although I can understand people using it as there only soldering iron.As fat as price goes it is in in the lower price bracket and to be honest if I get 5 years out of it I will be very happy, but I suspect it will last a lot longer. To sum up it is a well made and well presented soldering iron in a good tin case with room for everything, including my extra tips (even much more expensive ones just come in a plastic case, if you are lucky). It is a joy to use (no burnt fingers here !) and heats up very fast.Nothing to dislike about it really, the only thing on my wish list would be a little window to see how much fuel is in it, but my other iron didn't have it so I won't miss it !I hope this review helps someone.

First impressions this is a great product of high quality as always from Dremel whichHeats up very quickPlenty of different uses with all the different tips that it comes withVery simple and easy to use fill it up with some lighter refill gas (which is very cheap) and then ignite using the button and adjust the flames heat and size with the adjustment slide if using to solder then you can lock it to keep the flow of gas without holding the buttonVery portable as no electricity is needed and everything you need (except flux) is in a nice durable metal case keeping it all in one place and also allowing some slight growth with an empty compartment for extra tips you may buyOnly problem i can seeso far is it does smell quite a bit when you use the tips so id use in a well ventilated areaBut other than that id recommend it

The minute you open the box metal box and look down at this slightly bigger gas soldering iron, you realise that this is a professional piece of kit, for about £10 more than much inferior alternatives. Firstly, it is much more versatile, with a range of tips and the option for using it like a mini blowtorch. Secondly, there is a safety toggle to make sure that when you turn it off to put it away, it cannot possibly leak gas, like others can. I finished the soldering job to join two wires together, and used the rising exhaust gas to shrink the sleeving into place, in a fraction of the time it normally takes. It is much more powerful than the draper unit it replaces, and I feel confident that I could use it even in windy outside conditions with confidence.

Superb soldering iron....have been buying these for years and have outlasted my weller pyropen that hit the bin years ago......with soldering irons of this ilk you are better not spending any more than £35 ...because when they start to fail...the parts usually outweigh the initial purchase price.... for example parts for the weller pyropen are ridiculous...These Dremel iron usually last a couple of years when looked after....when they fail....throw them away and purchase another....possibly the best gas iron out there...I use them a lot and have been using gas irons for years on sites with no 240 and these perform very well....nothing performs as well as this

Well surprised when it came as I didn't know what I expected , but very surprised the quality of the dremel as it covers all the points and things you can do from soldering to craft projects , I've tried many soldering irons for various projects but after using this dremel versatip I won't be using any thing else , I would highly recommend anyone to buy this tool , I have bought soldering irons for £10 and above and some would say that's enough it will do the job bla bla bla , in my estimation your better of spending £35 for the dremel versatip it's quality at its best , as the saying go's you get what you pay for..... High quality highly recommended

The item arrived promptly and well packaged. Upon opening the package the item is contained in a metal box. Everything is held in purpose made cut outs. All tools necessary to interchange the heated tips are included, as is a somewhat extensive user manual. The only area of lacking, and it is only a very small area, is that there is no "window" to view how much fuel there is left in the item. Having used it only a few days after receiving it. I found it to be very easy to use and very good at it's job. I would highly recommend this item. It is a very good product at an equally good price.

This is the best gas blow torch/soldering iron ever, it heats up in less that 30 seconds depending on the bit used, cools down in 10 min and can be used on the smallest jobs like circuit boards jewlery repair or the bigger job's like solderin 10 gauge wire thanks to the extremaly variable gas jet, comfortable handle and easy to use, and the best thing is it last for over an hour used on the smaller flame but it still is very hot, and it fills up easily unlike others, I would recommend this dremel multi tip to anyone and would be the best investment of £30 ever

Having used a variation of different soldering irons, this one is high up on the list.Gets up to temp very quickly, I'm able to solder after around 20 seconds of lighting it up.The interchangeable tips that come with it enable a myriad of different applications, it's a good weight and feels substantial. The only downside I had was there doesn't seem to be a correct tip to use on the gas can when re-filling it with gas, as whichever tip was used, gas leaked out of the sides.Otherwise, a brilliant little tool I would highly recommend.

I've been through many cheep soldering irons for the past 2 years and always had the same issue of burning them down after couple hours of soldering. I like to do different projects with SBC and that's a lot of fine soldering, which since I bought the Dremel soldering iron is actually fun again. Really easy to use, fast to heat and the portability.... Just can't explain how much easier it is to not have to use extension lead every time you want to add extra sensor to existing contraption in the field. Really happy with it!

The Dremel Multi tip is a fantastic soldering iron it heats up very quickly and solders like no other soldering iron you can buy,it is the very best product on the market, how many times have you tried to solder with an electric iron only to find out that its not hot enough to melt the old solder or will not resolder an item back on a circuit board this produced i use all the time because we are musicians and need to fix equipment on the move and the Dremel Multi Tip meets our requirements we give this product 10 out of 10.

I bought this as a gift for my partner. I was looking for a pyrography tool so bought the additional heads. Added bonus that it has the other functions which have already come in very handy. He is very happy with it. It does need refilling with gas frequently but this is very easy to do and a can lasts ages. Just be careful of the hot air that comes out near the tip, we ended up with burn marks where it was pointing downwards when in use. Portability is great, very useful not being attached to a lead. Recommended.

I've had one of these for about 2 years now and found it indespensible. I'm a musician and often find myself having to repair gear on the road, so the portability of this thing is wonderful. It heats very quickly, the vent is great for heat shrink, the whole thing is very light and easy to use.The only thing stopping me giving it a full 5 stars is the number of times I've accidentally burned small wires and the difficulty I've had refilling the canister. Although both problems may well be down to user error.

The soldering tip works like a charm, Although it uses up slightly more butane than the other models. The paint scraper and heat gun are also really really good. A suggestion for the paint scraper; length of scraper should be a bit longer. heat gun also has a small issue where point heating is required. The wood graving tool is quite handy when marking wood for cutting as the marks cannot be rubbed off.The welding tip could be provided with more instructions.OVERALL: Amazing set for an affordable price

Once I figured out the safety locking system and filled it with gas it made me jump when it whistled into life.I was absolutely amazed at the almost immediate heat up time, having been used to my old electric soldering iron which took about 5 minutes to reach working temperature, I was soldering in way under one minute.Have since used the hot knife and the heat deflector for heat shrinking and found them to be just as awesome.Looks great, works really well and is so much easier to use than electric.

This is a good soldering iron if you don't have access to electricity, either on a job or just if you work in an old shed as I do.It fires up pretty quickly and performs well. The metal case it comes with is really rather smart, and it holds all the parts you need, plus a little solder and a damp sponge, to work effectively. You can buy accessory tips to turn this into a Pyrography iron but, to honest, you would be pushing your luck to do anything but the most basic work using this method.
