I am pleasantly surprised at just how good this tool is, I was a bit concerned with a few reviews here but took a gamble and I am glad I did.Mostly I use a blowtorch for shrinking adhesive lined heat shrink tubing, and I have tried a few catalytic hot air guns without much in the way of great success so finally settled on a chefs blowtorch. Of course with a naked flame it is easy to overdo the heat and burn the tubing but the increased speed was of greater benefit than the safety of lesser catalytic guns.My intention was to just use this with naked flame in the same way or maybe with the flame extender, both of which work very well for my application. However on trying the catalytic heating accessory I found this to be even better! While the heat is not nearly as fierce as the naked flame it is quite sufficient to shrink the tubing and heat the glue liner reasonably fast and safe, but the heat stream is much more accurate so I cause less damage to the objects the tubing is being shrunk onto (feathers mostly)Another wonderful surprise was the ignition and safety latch. The description regarding this is not entirely accurate, while it can be operated using two hands you do NOT HAVE to use two hands as it it also designed for single handed operation. With the chefs blowtorch I wedged bits of card in the safety mechanism to render it ineffective - I want to be able to pick up the torch and operate it single handed as I have the work piece in the other hand. Well this tool provides the best of both worlds, the safety latch can be swung right over to the left with the thumb and it latches in place, you can now press the ignition button and ignite the burner all with a single handed operation. Once the ignition button is pressed the safety latch disengages and returns to the safe position so when you let go of the ignition button the unit returns to safe state. This may seem a minor point but I think it shows that a good deal of thought has gone into the design and for me at least is an absolutely fantastic feature. As for reviews saying that igniting the burner is troublesome, maybe they need to RTFM.. Operate the safety latch as detailed above and SLOWLY press the ignition button - I have started the thing over 50 times and it has failed to light ONCEOther reviews that concerned me said that the flame is not controllable enough, again this is not true in my experience. The flame length can be adjusted with the control on the right hand side, this adjusted the blue cone flame between about 3/4 inches and about 2 inches roughly which is more than enough for anything I need, you also have an easy to use air mixture control just behind the burner which you can easily change the air mix from non (yellow flame) to max which gives a pin sharp blue cone. The storage tin is a work of art in its own right with moulded compartments for all the accessories (wait till they have cooled down before packing away)This unit cost me roughly twice the price of the chefs blowtorch, but the difference in quality and control is worth much, much more than the difference in price. This tool just stinks of quality, as soon as you pick it up you can just tell right away it is a pukka tool. Dremel do have a reputation for making good quality gear and I can assure you this tool does nothing but re-enforce that reputation, it is a great bit of kit which I can thoroughly recommend.

It’s early days yet... but I’m really happy with this tool. Used for a few different jobs, still a few functions I haven’t tested it on... but so far it’s doing a good job.It feels solid and good quality. It comes in a nice tin container which keeps everything neat and tidy. Some reviews have complained about the fussy on/off/lock mechanism, I don’t see it as a problem but a benefit - devices/tools that have potential to be dangerous SHOULD be fiddly to power up... having said that it is straight forward to fire up once you read the instructions!Flame adjustment is simple: you have a small collar to adjust the oxygen and a slider to change the propellant flow.Finding a compatible propellant on Amazon wasn’t straight forward - I found better luck on eBay.This is a compatible Butane:- Ronson Universal Butane Gas Lighter Refill FluidI wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. I can’t comment on its longevity but I see no reason why it can’t serve its purpose for many years.Update: May 2021I’ve finally got around to using this for plumbing... so a quick update. For a DIYer with patience and time this is a reasonably useful tool for soldering copper pipe, with a few caveats:1. You really do need to use the heat reflector. Without it you can’t get the pipe and fitting hot enough to melt the solder. You may have some success on smaller sections of pipe when prepping in a vice etc... but in situ you’ll probably end up burning off the flux before it gets hot enough.2. Because you need to use the reflector this restricts where and how you can use it: for example, I struggled to use it on an elbow and tee fitting without knocking them out of position.3. The gas runs out quickly, so you may find that just as you get the fitting hot enough you run out... this was mildly annoying. Top up every time you start a new fitting...I did end up buying a proper propane fuelled torch to finish my job... but as an occasional tool it may just do the job.For a pro plumber... forget about it.I still think it deserves 4 stars, it’s clearly not meant for pro use but for occasional DIY jobs it is pretty good.

I had already bought and liked the Dremel gas soldering iron, so this was the obvious choice for a more powerful blowtorch. It comes on a nice tin to keep everything together and it is also easy to see if anything is missing from the tin.You do need to buy a 'gas for lighters refill' and I suggest that you don't buy a cheap make but something like Ronson, as cheaper gas ones do tend to smell unpleasant when burning. Some reviewers complain about the on/off/lock mechanism, but I consider this more of a safety feature than anything else and as it is the same on the soldering iron I have no problem with it at all,as it is second nature one you have used it once or twice and it is better than accidentally leaving the gas on until it is empty or children coming along and trying to light it.When lit, there are two adjustments : a small collar to adjust the air flow and a slider to adjust the the gas flow thus allowing really good control over the flame itself - from a nice blue to a cooler yellow. As I will mainly use this for silver soldering, some of the attachments I probably won't use, but you never know, better to have then all really.I have used this 4 times since I bought it, 3 times for solver soldering and once for soldering a 15 mm copper pipe joint, and have been really impressed with it.I put the base on it as soon as I get it out of the tin, this allows you to work with 2 hands instead of one, not to mention it won't fall over on the bench.I am sure I will be using it a lot more soon though as it has so many possible uses.It does feel well made and I think it will last a long time, but the fact that the cost is fairly low anyway, you don't get much like this for around £40 these days, I personally think it is a bargain.Another winner for Dremel.

There doesn't seem to be anything between this, at £35, and the several, very cheap,~ £10 versions, about which there are so many bad/horror reports. My first impression was that it was smaller/neater than I expected it to be, (14cm high), but it works perfectly for me, doing the occasional small jobs I got it for.It comes in a brushed-silver "biscuit" tin, with "DREMEL" embossed on the rather loose lid, (push-on, not hinged). It contains the flame-torch and nozzle accessories plus solder, all neatly held in a formed, plastic insert, though the plastic foot of the torch has to be removed for it to fit in its "cut-out", the foot going in another cut-out.It filled easily, just like a large cigarette lighter. The only bad point I've found, is that there is no indicator or window for seeing how full it is.I can't comment on how long one fill lasts on constant burn, or on how well it holds the fill when not in use, as I haven't had it long enough to tell. So, so far, so good!

This is similar to my wife's little kitchen blow lamp and although it cost a little more it is a vastly better product. It seems reasonably well made, it lights easily (my wife's doesn't), it is easy to adjust the flame (my wife's isn't) and it can my locked on (my wife's can't). So far it has only been used for some soldering and I am impressed. Much quicker to heat up than an electric iron and no cord to get in the way. It heats so fast and is so easy to light that it makes sense to turn it off between joints.I like the small stand which coupled with being able to lock the blow lamp on means it can be used on the bench with both hands being available to bring the required joint to it.Much easier than trying to position small components on a bench. If I had a criticism it would be that care is needed to avoid getting burnt from the flame vent in the side of the soldering head. It would have been a nice touch if head could be revolved to get the hole in the best position.

I bought this for soldering connectors onto 4 AWG cables for car stereo power. These are big, 10mm thick cables (think heavy duty jump leads type of thing). I've only really used it on the naked flame (no attachment), and the catalyst. Being able to pick up fuel at any time of day from any corner shop is handy (uses standard cans of butane lighter fuel, not included).Using the naked flame generates easily enough heat for soldering connectors onto 4 gauge cables (I dare say this depends on exactly what type of connector and solder you're using though). Put it this way, you'll completely fry the copper strands if you hit them directly for long (so, obviously, don't do it that way!).The catalyst attachment is handy for subsequently applying heat shrink to the join, as it applies enough heat, but with no flame.I gave 4 stars, as I find it a bit fiddly flicking the safety switch and locking the flame on, once lit, but it's not a huge issue.

I needed a blow torch to torch my second hand bee hives and kill any remnants of possible diseases. I found this one after searching on the Internet and reading lots of reviews. It is very easy to use, light and comfortable. Easy to fill with gas, the handle becomes cold from top to bottom when filled and you know when to stop. I used the flame at its most powerful and it is very focused and safe to handle. I even torched the frames and the combs and I could handle the frames very close to the flame without feeling the heat. The flame never went out, there is a button to press to keep the flame going for long periods of time and the base is handy to rest the torch while still lit if needed. It is easy to figure out when more gas is needed because the flame becomes less hot. I would recommend this product.

There are much cheaper versions of this, but I wanted something that was well made and would perform longer than 5 minutes, which I have had in the past, so that's why I decided to buy this model. I understand that Dremel is made by Bosch, so I was assured that it would be of good construction. I can say that this product worked as expected, it is very simple to light with an inbuilt piezo ignite button. I haven't used it for too long so I can't confirm how long the gas will last, but it feels as if there is still plenty of fuel. With an adjustable flame you can get the type of heat you want and it is quite stable on it's removable foot. It comes in a metal carry case and has useful accessories.I use it for brazing and am pleased with it's performance so far. Highly recommended.

So far, and I'll grant that it's early days, I'm impressed. It's a Dremel, which is always a good start. The packaging is excellent, managing to be both highly practical and attractive. The accessories are surprisingly good quality. And the torch itself is brilliant. Now some reviewers suggest the safety lock is pointlessly fiddly and flimsy. I disagree. It's easy enough to use and seems to be quite robust, though time will, of course, be the judge. It's easy to lock the flame on for soldering and it absolutely, certainly, does get hot enough.Leave the accessories off and you can cut holes in coke cans with the flame, should you be so inclined. The instructions could probably be clearer, but in all honesty it's so intuitive to use that there's no problem there.

I bought this to replace my old dremel gas soldering iron which was an absolute trooper. This one is much better and seems to be very robust/ well made. I particularly like the air flow control going from a clean blue jet to a yellow flame. It would be nice to have a few more accessories chucked in but what it comes with is all of a good quality. Such a great product for doing those awkward soldering jobs out and about with no mains power available. Would defo recommend it to anyone for either small scale plumbing or more suitable for electrical wiring soldering/heat shrinking, melting things...Requires a lot of butane gas to fill it but it lasts for at least an hour continuous use on the lowest flame before needing refill.

Bought this for my wife as a Christmas present (no, she didn't kill me or stop talking to me). She had wanted a chef's torch for a while to use when caramelizing desert toppings and I had looked at quite a few in the kitchen stores but they all looked to be of poor quality or design. Then I saw this and thought I would try it. Really happy with it, or to be correct, my wife was really happy with it when she opened it. Works well although the flame is maybe a little small so it takes a while to caramelize the toppings. The added bonus is I could also use it for my DIY/hobby needs if I can sneak it out of the kitchen without her seeing me...

This is a much better torch than my last one and has a good, strong, variable flame. It solders silver jewellery well.My only issue with it is how hard I find it to light the flame and push the locking switch across at the same time. I do not have enough strength in my fingers to keep the flame Button depressed whilst soldering, so this is the only way I can use it. I find it is a two handed job to get it lit, so need to arrange the jewellery I intend to solder really well as I can't hold it and light the torch at the same time. My old torch was not such good quality but was easier to use.

Absolutely fantastic addition to the garage toolkit. So quick and easy to grab this for soldering and shrink wrapping, rather than haul out the soldering iron, find the extension leads, plug in and wait to heat up.Also, the flame is so precise, used it yesterday on 3 siezed TORX screws on a car door latch without affecting surrounding paintwork. Soldering, heating, drying, so useful.Only down side, it comes in a lovely tin presentation box and I feel obliged to put it all back in the cardboard box after use to keep keep it safe.Really, really pleased.

The Single best tool I have ever bought bar none ! robust ,easy to fill ,stores easily in its tin and solders incredibly well with the dedicated soldering tip and also for open flame soldering. I'm a professional modeller and I have soldered parts open flame with this torch as small as 0.5mm across and 0.10 in thickness , its amazingly controlled and provides just enough heat to bond the brass parts without melting the previously soldered parts in very confined spaces ,after getting to know it you wont go back to electric irons... Simply Awesome !
