I repair cameras and many years ago I had a rechargeable soldering iron from RS Components that was fast, lightweight and powerful. I decided to get another one but since rechargeable ones seem to be a bit thin on the ground, I opted for one of these made by the reputable Weller. I wish I didn't waste my money. The construction is cheap toy type plastic and while the tip does get hot, it just hasn't sufficient power to solder anything but the smallest connections. All I want to do is de-solder and re-solder thin wires from the camera flash contacts but it just can't generate enough power. So for me this product is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

I am an aeromodeller and electricity is now a hugely popular way of powering the models. Soldering is not my strongest skill, much prefer wood, but with the electric models there is often a fair bit of soldering to do. I bought this to use on the very lightweight components but I have to say I am disappointed. It doesn't seem to work like a normal iron and I have had little, if any, success. It might be me, but I don't get on with it, I don't have problems with other irons.

Very disappointed! I wasn't expecting a gold plated battery powered soldering iron for £20 but I did expect it to actual melt solder!!Heated up and managed about 2 solder joints before the dying. Replaced batteries and made no difference. Light stays on but tip stays cold.Definitely not fit for purpose and will be sending back asap.

Works fine now, batteries supplied were no good despite being a good brand. New batteries sorted problem. Original ones did not light led although it heated up briefly

Doesn't get anywhere near hot enough. Even struggles to melt the solder supplier. Ordered a gas iron instead.
