By "typically" I mean not massively fast, but at the expected speed most of these 150MB/s flash drives are rated for.- Test setup (March 2018):Straight into a Thunderbolt 3, 2016 15" fully spec'd Apple MacBook Pro. Using this SanDisk 64GB drive in new/unused/pre-formatted (FAT32) condition, straight out the packaging.Tested using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, at Blackmagic's 1GB and 5GB sizes. Using the drive's USB-C plug or it's USB-A plug (with an Aukey USB-C-to-USB-A adapter) directly into the MBP:50-60 (write) / 160-170 (read).- Result:So read's on an empty drive are as expected, write's are a bit slow; but TBH they're well within what most of these flash drives'performances tend to be that advertise themselves at the "150MB/s" rated standard.- Summary:If you want to spend 2-4 times more on a flash drive that advertises newer "300MB/s" speeds, then of course you may get around a doubling of the read and writes shown here. But of course you're paying usually significantly more for the privilege, and those flash drives are typically much bulkier as well, this one is only 4x2x1cm in size. Also, there are currently NO others (or at least none from main brands) on the market that do both USB-A and USB-C on one stick. This does the expected speeds, connected using the expected types. As of March 2018... If you need both A+C connection types, this is the one you're gonna need to buy. If you want faster speeds, at a higher price (19 quid for 64GB model), whilst sacrificing having both A+C USB connections, then look elsewhere.-----------EDIT (one week later):Two quick points...1) Faster drive. Those looking for SanDisk's ~300MB/s speed drive, which is more expensive (~double the price/GB), bulkier, only has a USB-A port and no USB-C port. Then the "SanDisk Extreme PRO" the current one they do in 128GB & 256GB sizes:https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MU8TZRV2) Format.I should have said originally, Mac users will likely want to reformat the drive in Disk Utility app.The drive natively comes in FAT32, which only allows max file sizes of ~4GB. So I used "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and "GUID Partition Map" type. Likely only work on Macs though, but that's my work environment. Speeds quoted in main review above remain the same, BTW.ExFAT could also be used (not sure whether that's as "Master Boot Record" or "GUID Partition Map" type? – I think the latter is best for newer OS's like Sierra onwards or Win 7 onwards?), but that's got limitations (e.g. max 11 character drive partition names), see here:https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22240?locale=en_GBHope this helps any Mac (and Win) users who are unsure.

I purchased this USB to go with my new MacBook Pro 15" 2017 due to the fact the Mac only has USB C ports, and its come in extremely handy since. The tech world is moving towards USB C with many new devices offering USB C in the mix of ports, or in apples case, the only port. This little USB therefore comes in super handy as it allows you to plug in to any standard USB/USB C device and means you only need to cary one USB with you,The USB itself is pretty well built, it has a simple design with a plastic/metal housing, a small slider that you use to push either the regular USB or the USB C out and a small hole to attach a lanyard onto.A small, but welcomed feature is that when you retract the USB the slider sits in the centre and stays there, unlike another SanDisk dual USB drive I have used in the past where the slider won't lock into place and as a result the USB's are always sliding out and exposing themselves.Due to the metal body the USB can become extremely hot when transferring allot of data, however from what I can tell this does not seem to effect the performance, you may just want to be careful of this when in use.I can't remember what format the USB came in but I quickly re-formatted it to ExFAT so it would work well on both my Mac and PC, this is really easy to do on windows (Cant speak for Mac as I've never formatted a drive on my Mac, I assume it would be just as easy however) and once done means you can transfer the USB between Mac and PC without issue. The new MacBook Pro's have very limited storage unless your willing to pay a fortune for an upgrade, therefore this is a great way to cut down on costs with a new Mac as you can get a lower storage model and then one of these to store the things you'll use less often. I personally keep backups of my projects on the USB as well as some of my Steam games, the USB is fast enough to be able to download games to it and play them directly off the USB so you can really save some space by storing your games on here.Overall the USB is a must have for new MacBook owners and would do just fine if you intend to use it as a regular USB stick, a future proof investment as more things will begin to move to USB C over the years so this should last you a while!

So firstly at time of writing this drive is £46, when I purchased it, it cost me £25.99 on an amazon flash deal.I was looking for a drive that fills a very specific need and that is a drive that can be used both on my normal sized USB devices and my mobile USB type C devices and since this drive was built for that very specific purpose I was overjoyed to discover it.So....how much can you really say about an USB memory stick? Its quick enough when attached to an USB 3.0+ port either standard type A or type C.It works fine on my Desktop, laptops, and TVs and just as well attached to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 5 and Galaxy 10 plus phone.Any negatives? Not really, as others have mentioned it does get warm, not hot exactly, but then so do all USB 3 devices.I've had my desktop copying files to a couple of USB 3 devices at once and the motherboards southbridge chip temps skyrocket, as well as the devices themselves. But when you consider the speeds at which they can complete file copies, it's no big deal. Also they make great little hand warmers.Nice little device for a niche market.

I wanted a small in size but large in capacity drive for when i have to move different types of files around systems.Drive speeds are at least on my system Read 175 MB/s Write 75 MB/s. (Tested on USB 3.1/3.0)The reason i didn't give this 5 stars on value was, for similar money or not much more a similar size ssd and seperate enclosure offers far better speeds. Please note i do not mean the portable ssds that can be bought, i mean DIY, as thats always cheaper lol. But for a slip in your pocket and forget size this is, you expect to pay these sorts of prices so its still decent value. One note i would like to add, after testing with 10Gb folder with file sizes of all types inside, depending on what is being transfered at the time the speed will fluctuate, thats just the nature of the beast. Also when transferring alot, it does heat up, so please be aware of that, it soon cools down, but it may worry those that are not used to it.

For those reviewers that who said it is slow - they probably have never used other USB sticks or their computers have slow USB 2.0 ports. This USB has very fast write performance for its price (Blackmagic benchmark for 4G files is about 30MB/s longterm and real-life performance is also very good). I had those very small "dual" USB drives from top brand and some of their write speeds are about 5MB/s on average. You can find faster sticks but the size will be larger and be more expensive. This USB stick is good value. Apple store sell a custom made edition of this model but charges £75 for the same 64G capacity. The major issue is that the package doesn't come with a lanyard for connecting the USB with keychain and I have to buy those separately. The position of the connection for lanyard is at the middle of the body which is very odd. But given the price/performance and the reputation of Sandisk, I can live with that.

Write speed: I measured around 55 seconds to copy a 1GB file onto it, with windows reporting around 18MB/sRead speed: unplugging the drive (to ensure no caching) and reading it back took only 8 seconds, measuring around 140MB/s in windows! This is much faster than the cheaper sandisk drives. My pack of 16Gb ones for a tenner measured 1 minute 35 to write the same file (indicated 12MB/s) and 35 seconds to read the file back (indicated 30MB/s). Given this drive is over 5 times the capacity of that pack combined at 2.5 times the price, I'd say this is a pretty good sweet spot.Pros- Excellent read and write performance- supports usb-c and traditional USB ports- Huge 256GB storage capacityCons-NoneIn summary: If you want a high capacity flash drive with excellent write and read performance with the backing of a major brand, then this is probably as good as it gets right now.

This is a tremendously fast memory stick and it's great value for the amount of storage it has.By no means is this a replacement for an SSD, but it is definitely sufficient enough to carry a lot of small files inside. The points that I'd like to point out, under my usage, are that:- The slider of the USB sometimes isn't latching enough whilst inserting to a device, causing it to go back to the centre and retracting the USB. (Not a problem with the Type-C connector though)- When transferring many files, or large-sized files onto the stick, via USB 3.0, it heats up to ridiculous temperatures, it is very alarming to the person who will touch the stick. As some parts are metal, the heat that has transferred to it may be too hot for people with sensitive fingertips.Otherwise, it is still all alive and well. Would recommend!

I bought this because it was on offer at a tempting £9.99 for 64Gb. Encrypted with Bitlocker, it lets me carry all the vast number of my personal files about with me. Some of the reviews say it is rather flimsy. I don't find it so. Other reviews say it is slow with USB2. Well, USB2 is a slow system - the answer is to start transferring and go and make some coffee. My only gripe is that the smaller USB plug is the wrong one for my Android smartphone. That, however, is my fault for not having paid more attention to the product description. Since I have no need of a USB stick for my telephone, it's an irrelevant gripe. So, five stars. Perhaps I should have bought more than one when the price was low.You can never have too many memory sticks.

This dual connector USB stick is great. As someone who has multiple devices, having a USB stick that can be used on any of them is priceless (well obviously not as SanDisk put a price on it - a very reasonable one at that). I use a Desktop PC with only USB Type A ports, uni computers - again Type A only, a laptop with Type A and C, and then a phone and a tablet with Type C ports. I tend to work right up to the last minute in labs and workshops and often logging into onedrive is a pain I don't have time for. I can simply plug this in and in seconds be able to take it away and work on it somewhere else.Would recommend for anyone, but especially students or anyone with devices with Type A and Type C connector ports.

If you need to transfer files easily from/to your brand-new USB-C phone or tablet to a normal PC without going through the cloud or the transfer cable then get this.In an ideal world this kind of device would not be needed. Copying files from/to a phone/tablet would be quick and easy but sometimes this is not the case: copying from/to PC to such a device and then plugging this in to the phone/tablet works more reliably and many times is quicker - depending on the device in question. As with similar USB3 flash drives read speed (~130MB/s) is not an issue, write speed (~15MB/s) could be better but then again most phones/tablets are not able to write any faster as even though USB-C the link speedis USB2 class.

The reviews seemed to have concerns over the locking mechanisam and the heat generated.I have to say mine was absolutely fin.I mean.... yes it gets hot if you are bulk copying (it is 256GB and you got it for a reason) but it handled it well.I am sure we have all experienced flash drives where the sliding interface keeps shrinking back into the housing... but you don;t excpect that for this price.. and I didn;t need to worry. The sliding interface was solid and clicked into place.Response is good, read speeds sort of as promised.... actually hardly any of the advertised speeds on here are achievable in normal use anyway. That didn;t worry me.Would highly recommend

I cannot fault this product. When it comes down to USB drives there are not many differentiating factors as the manufacturer of the internal components are usually the same. The differentiating factors are speed, size and quality. This product is very small (as seen from the images), it has a nice metal feel to it aswell that really goes well with you ultrabooks. The fact that you have the USB C and USB 3 on the same device makes it really appealing. This is really good for Mac users as you no longer need a dongle or anything to transfer data.I recommend this to anyone who has a Macbook laptop, and I am surprised this is not a recommended accessories on Apple Store!

Bought as an experiment to see if my new phone was Type C charge turns out it's not but I found the little adapter that comes with most phones Micro USB to USB it can now be used as a memory card and still use 2 sims which I do. May not work with all phones but for mine it did. Gets a little worm Iv'e spotted so I would unplug it when not in use, the clip is a bit flimsy but it's OK. Transfers files quickly using a normal USB from the computer and smaller then I thought it would be which is a good thing for me. Would be nice to pay a little more for a metal one as this is plastic and may not last as long but good so far.

This 3.0 (1st gen) USB is fast reliable and good quality. It also has a life time warranty. On one side is a USB while on the other a C-Type to connect to your phone. It is made of mainly plastic with a metal cover. There's a key hole on the metal cover although I found it very difficult to put a key ring in it due to the hole being so small and narrow. The USB itself is very small and feels flimsy and of low quality. I haven't had it very long but always kept it in my pocket along with various other stuff and doesn't have a scratch on it yet.

I use USB flash drives every day to transfer important documents and various images. I needed a drive that could move files from one place to the other. The drive it self moves files in excess of 100 mbs!!The only thing that bugged me was the temperature of the device after long periods of use. With my device it was warm to the touch and in some cases I had to let the drive cool down so that I would not 'burn' myself.Other than the temperature this device is a must buy for anyone that needs dual connectivity
