I bought this 64GB flash drive to store a music collection to be played on a Roberts 83i internet radio.Had several issues:First attempt: copied all data onto drive, disappointing write speed (around 12MB/s). After completion, tested in PC using VLC Media Player: all working well. Plugged into Roberts: card not recognised! Turns out these drives are supplied formatted in NTFS (Roberts needs FAT32).Using standard Windows 7 formatter successfully formatted to FAT but capacity now reduced to 32MB! After some web research found free software 'guiformat' that quicly reformatted card to FAT32 with full capacity of 64GB. NB the limitations of the Windows formatter has lead some users to believe that a FAT32 formatted drive can only store up to 32GB: this is not true, the storage limit is much bigger, the limitation is 32GB for a single file (because of an addressing limitation) - not a problem for most applications. The drive now works perfectly in the Roberts radio.I checked the SanDisk web site for the specifications of the drive: amazingly the spec page gives no information at all abpout read/write speeds (despite that fact that these are the specs of most interest to a typical user). I sent SanDisk a message complaining about the lack of info and got a quick and interesting reply: they say 'speed specifications are only published for our Ultra, Extreme and Extreme Pro lines' (much more expensive drives) but went on to say:'The Ultra USB 3.0 drives do not have advertised write speeds but the advertised read speed is up to 100MB/s when used with a USB 3.0 port. Write speed is lower and varies by capacity. *For 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB: Transfer to drive up to 10 times faster than standard USB 2.0 drives'.I measured read speed at around 80MB/s and write speed starting at 20MB/s but then declining to 8MB/s after a data transfer taking around 10 minutes to complete. I mention the total duration of the write because I think it is very likely that the gradual slow-down is related to the heating observed by many users. Silicon performance drops sharply with increasing temperature and the very small size of these drives means that there is very little exposed surface area to radiate the heat - my drive reached a temperatre of around 40-50C after the 10 min write and would probably have got hotter if the write time had been longer. Heating on playing music is much lower because data rates are slower and the reading process will use less power in any case. I think this is an inherent problem with these drives that limits their use if you want to do repeated lengthy write operations. If your application does require a lot of writing you are probably better off with a longer thumb drive product.

128GB version:I use a memory verification program that flashes a data file to each and every memory address on any storage device, it then verifies the integrity of the data written (I've caught and returned a few fakes in the past!)... and gives a read/write speed while it's doing it...It wrote the data at about 17 Mbytes pre sec.It read the data to verify at about 130 Mbytes per sec.Being very careful to 'quote' the data speeds I found as the program states it in MegaBYTES, not BITS. The information that came with this product is a bit confusing as it doesn't seem clear whether it refers to Megabits or Megabytes.. A little confusing if a little misleading regarding its data speeds. That aside,it does seem quick enough for most applications...It did FAIL the verification first time through, but I set it to Verify again and it reported no errors. Hopefully just a brief glitch when it read the data first time through (I hope!) but as it did verify there must be no issues with its data or capacity.Having said that, I then had to format it NTFS for my purposes, which took nearly 3 hours! It crashed out half way through the first attempt to format, so again I set it going a second time. Thankfully it worked.I'm using it to augment the storage on one of those small netbook things (the ones that typically come with 32GB of storage) and it seems good so far, though I am monitoring its behaviour given the couple of glitches I found while testing and setting it up.Will update if anything out of the ordinary happens.. but in the meantime it works well as extended system storage, which now includes containing the system's Onedrive too after some reconfiguring.I also like its low profile as it sticks out very small on the side of the device. You can in theory plug it in and leave it.

Having purchased a few smaller drives from Sandisk, I new they could be trusted to deliver a competant product. This small thumb like drive has matched up to expectations in that it packs a load of storage into a small space great for travelling on my holiday. Knowing you may want more information in a review that is normally given I have even tested it's read and write speed for you, although I must mention a caveat here, this was tested in my system which is 64bit, i5 at 3.1Ghz, 6GB ram, a 5.1 on the performance acore for my system based on lowest graphics card element. Understanding the former and that it has a third party USB 3 card fitted in which I tested the 64GB SanDisk drive you should remember your own system may be different, the figure I tested was for a Write speed of 44 MBSec and a Read speed of 125 MBSec and so is approaching the rated sales specification which I guess would be achieved if you have the correct hardware. All in all a great little performer, handy to travel with and you could even leave it in your USB slot if you liked with less chance of it being knocked than other longer type USB drives.Read full review...

This is a USB from a trusted brand that works as expected - once you manage to get it open and into your laptop, that is. As a diabetic, my skin tends to be rather dry and at times my fingertips aren't the most sensitive, so once the cover was on this item, which is about 0.5cm thick, 1cm wide and 1.5 cm long, I struggled to get it off. In fact, I couldn't manage it at all and had to get some help.Once in (it inserts easily), it's immediately recognised and performs as expected, and it is good that it doesn't stick out much and risk getting jolted/yanked/damaged, but once out, it's a different story. It fell out of my hands, off a desk and because it's slippery and smooth,it got flipped around on our laminate flooring before I was able to pick it up again. I can't see myself taking this out of the house, which kind of makes it a bit useless, but gadget-mad hubby liked this enough to swap me a regular USB for it. And, it would be highly dangerous if you have young kids in the house, as this could easily be swallowed.I'm all for progress and convenience, but this needs a bit of a re-think, methinks.

Tiny item which fits very discretely into front usb in my hi-fi.It was fast enough to load with MP3 files but I was using a USB2 socket, I'm not going to be doing much transferring, just storing and playing music so the speed really isn't an issue for me.One thing I picked up from other reviews is that some say it becomes very hot when transferring files. I found this not to be the case when transferring about 14GB of music files from my PC using a USB 3 socket.I didn't measure it but for a real world comparison I felt it was about as warm as you'd get touching a hot water bottle in a furry cover.Nice and cosy warm!I've tried it out in the car and in the hi-fi and as expected the minimal amount of work it's being asked to do doesn't warm it beyond ambient temperature.I hope such techno-babble won't be over the heads of youngsters but my message is that from my experience of it, the heat generated during file transfer and playing music is not an issue.

I ordered the metal USB3 variant with 32GB, but received the black plastic USB3.1 variant (also 32GB). I had heard the newer plastic ones overheat worse, and consequently have reliability problems. I ran CrystalDiskMark and noted that the sequential read & write speeds are as good as the metal version, as are the random reads. However the random writes for the black plastic 3.1 variant are significantly worse (1.45MB/s) compared to the metal 3.0 variant (3.0MB/s). So this is fine for file transfers but you would not want to run Linux off it, for example you would not want to use it as a USB boot device for a Raspberry Pi. As it happens, this time, I only needed it for occasional file transfers, but otherwise I may have been annoyed that I ordered one thing and received another. Also it did get quite hot, and with plastic instead of metal to act as a heatsink, I suspect that it won't last that long.

This 128Gb USB Flash Drive is ideal for transporting large files around. We have many computers in our house, so it was a worthwhile investment.++ A Tip on using this size Flash Drive ++It comes by default formatted in FAT32, this will cause problems if you try and save a file over 4Gb to it. However, in this day and age, files of 4Gb or more can easily created with just RAW video formats. There are two ways around this issue.1. Reformat it to exFAT (not always compatible with certain devices)2. Reformat it to NTFS (More compatible with most devices)I have frequently used this flash drive for transferring files over 12Gb+ with no problems. You will find this device does generate a lot of heat, this is normal for any USB 3.0 device of this size.If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Bought this as a thumb drive to hold music in the car's USB port. Works perfectly in the car and sits nice and snug in the USB slot. However, one proviso. The transfer speeds (when copying music from PC onto the SanDisk) can slow significantly as the flash drive gets quite hot. Transfer speeds slowed to less than 1Mb/s, and at one point the transfer actually stopped for a few seconds while the SanDisk cooled down and then the speed picked up again. If your are transferring small amounts of data, no problem. This only seems to happen if you transfer many GBs in one hit. Hint: if you are transferring music files, copy several smaller chunks and leave a few seconds gap between each transfer, rather than one very large transfer. That said, I'm still very pleased with the product and would buy again.

After many frustrating nights of trying to get 2 different pissing external hdd's to play films via t.v or xbox one failed as it's just harder to make work these days unfortunately.i bought one of these and it's so much easier!!!!! doesn't work with all t.v's but works with the one i need it to and also even better the xbox one, which is a god send! you can hold up to nearly 20 films on this thing and it's the size of my thumbnail. unbelievable!!! And being a flash drive, not having any moving parts there's no time delay or issues with it going out of sync like on hdd. plus it'd be very hard to break if you just dropped it. great piece of kit,but make sure you go for no higher than a 32gb as apparently the 64gb upwards are formatted to ntfs, making it harder to make work with as many devices.

The desire for smaller and smaller items is understandable. We all lead very cluttered lives and the less we have to carry, the better. Well yes - but only up to a point.A flash drive is part of modern life. The need to back-up and/or transfer files between devices is growing. Having 64GB capacity is great. The transfer times - even on my old PC - were more than acceptable. However being so small, the risk of losing it is enormous. It is described as the sort of thing that you can leave in place - which, of course, is very true. But if is not how many of us would use such a device. We will, at least on occasion, will want to use it between devices and being so small,it is easy to misplace. Not a reason to ignore this product, of course, but something to bear in mind as you use it.

I bought this for our Vauxhall Mokka as a storage device for the car audio system. For some reason, Vauxhall in their wisdom fitted the USB port in the Mokka on full show, meaning if an Ipod is connected it basically shouts "break a window and nick me!"... this is where the San Disk ultra fit comes in... I have copied tagged music from my Itunes library to it and have plugged it in- the low profile and black colour means that when installed it is unobtrusive and difficult to see. Access times are great and as a bonus, the rubber protective flap on the Mokka USB port can be placed over it to give the impression that nothing is fitted. A great little item that has close on the same capacity as an ipod, yet very discreet.

I bought the 32GB model, and immediately after unplugging it is very hot to the touch - hot enough to burn, so be careful. While it is a little worrying that this drive gets so hot, their disclaimers do say that it stays within acceptable ranges. As Sandisk is a reliable company, I'll continue using this in my new laptop. The plastic cap is incredibly difficult to remove without fingernails, but loosens up with use. Shame it can't clip onto the back of the USB.Total size after formatting was 28.6GB, which is disappointing. I expected a little more.Don't believe the pictures - they exaggerate its size. This thing is 19mm long and 16mm wide at the base; that's as long as and narrower than a 1p coin.

First of all I bought this to use in my car for music so I was not worried about other people comments saying it gets hot. But I did some tests and indeed it gets hot when writing files on it but nothing crazy I could still hold it in between my fingers no problem. Not getting hot when reading from it (played music for 1h and check after). It looks good in car as it is small so not sticking out of dashboard.Came formatted in FAT32 so I reformatted to NTFS, but tested speeds first they are same and now I can put big files on it if needed.Tested as well coping files up to 300MB and large files like 4GB and again speeds were similar. I have attached screenshot.

It was a good super small drive until it stopped working less than a year after using it in a single tv box as the device storage. The drive is compatible and all, and it worked flawlessly until now. Strangely, it gets extremely hot within seconds of being connected. Now it does not work, computers do not recognise it and refuse to show it as a device, so it cannot be reformatted. Submitting a return request with SanDisk does not work so now I have an expensive drive to throw away along everything that was saved in it. Not happy.EDITI’ve filled in a replacement form at SanDisk and they sent me a new one fairly quickly, no issues since.

Fantastic, It is what it is, a tiny 128GB USB 3 memory disk/stick/thumbdrive , which I have used as a start-up disk for Mac, where I put the latest macOS on it, without having to update my main internal drive on my macbook pro, which would cause issues with some of my existing software which I use for work, but able to use the latest macOS as well when needed and when necessary, and will do more often when and if I get a new iPad, which wont work on Mavericks or iTunes 11. USB 3 makes up starter disk boot up faster, and the 128GB is basically entry level storage for a Macbook, which has space for OS and some apps and work space.
