So after owning about 50 bazillion flash drives I've finally found one that actually transfers faster than a hard disk. The Basics:This flash drive is a bit bigger than your average flash drive but the build quality is superb.Even though it's made of plastic it feels reassuringly solid so I should expect this thing will not fall apart like so many others I've owned. The USB retract mechanism is very smooth and locks in pretty good. One nifty little thing I always look for in a flash drive is a small hole that I can use to attach to my keychain which this one has. There is also a small blue LED that flashes when in use.The Tech stuff:This flash drive is more expensive due to the USB 3.0 speed it operates at.I ran some speed tests and found this reads at around 195MBps which is about 6 times faster than my previous flash drive. I tested the write speed and the transfer was running at about 135MBps which is consistent with USB 3. A single 1.5GB movie file transfered from my PC to the flash drive in 11 seconds!(just ensure that your computer has USB 3.0 ports to operate at full speed before buying)The only negative thing I can say about this flash drive is the fact it's slightly larger than average and can be a bit fiddly when using a USB hub with the ports placed close together. That aside it's the best flash drive I've ever owned. If you are after a solid and very fast performing USB flash drive then this one will deliver the goods.***UPDATE****Ok so after a few days of testing this new flash drive I have found that the USB 2.0 performance is faster than any native USB 2.0 flash drive I've used before.I can transfer files to this thing at about 23MBps-28MBps. That might not sound like a lot compared to USB 3.0 speeds but every other USB 2 flash drive I've tested will transfer at about 5MBps-7MBps max!I would say based on this it is definitely worth buying even if you only have a computer with USB 2.1 as it will still perform very well and will give you some level of future proofing with USB 3 speeds.

So much less frustration than my old USB2 stick !Wanted to share just how much faster this is than buying a cheap 64GB USB2 stick. This stick:SanDisk SDCZ80-064G-G46 64GB Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drivehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DZPUOUI"up to 190 MB/s read, write speed lower and varies by capacity"On Amazon from Jan 2013, 16 reviews 4 stars, Current price £50My old stick:iBoutique IB64GUSB2 USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Elite Flash Drive (64GB, Jet Black)http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0058MTWT0"20 MB/s write, 30 MB/s read"On Amazon from Jun 2011, 1800 reviews 4 stars, Current price £16, cheap, so still being bought frequentlyMost noteable real world differences for me are:A.SanDisk read is 7x faster in USB3 port than iBoutique in USB2 portB. These SanDisk Extreme 32GB Drives have the USB3.0 interface and the chip inside is a good match and compares well with my other fast USB3 sticks and is a lot faster than any of my class 10 SDHC chips. These are ideal for quick backups etc where time might be a significant factor, and much faster than the similar looking Ultra series..There was some clutter on the sticks taking up some valuable space when first examined, but I always reformat new media to remove any possible Trojans etc and NTFS is a more robust file system than FAT32. I also always test them to check for speed or if counterfeit. At first sight the retractable plug is handy, but the contacts are still just as exposed to dust dirt and static. So in reality this feature is simply a gimmick and a waste of space, and these sticks end up being about 2cms longer than normal sticks which makes them more vulnerable to accidental knocks while plugged into, say, a laptop. They become quite warm by the end of the brief five minutes of activity required for a full Write, but not excessively so.The performance I measured with H2TestW was much the same on each chip on each of the possible formats (FAT32, ExFAT, NTFS) and with 4K and 16K sectors, for 29,859MB tested out of the the full capacity of 29,951MB. There are 31.406,927,872 bytes in the chip which when formatted with 4K NTFS allow a usable 31,310,032,896 bytes.. Write speed was consistently between 95MB/s and 103MB/s, taking less than 5 minutes to fill each chip. More recent chips have been at the higher speed end of this spread.. Read speed was between 165MB/s and 168MB/s taking less then 3 minutes to read and verify each chip. The most recent chips have been the fastest. There were no faulty bytes.I now have several of these bought across the last year or so, and their performance remains consistent and has not dropped off with time.

I love this USB drive. I bought it for backing up important pictures, I wanted a drive that had fast transfer speeds, had a reasonable capacity, and that I could trust not to break after 5 minutes.I can confirm it's lasted longer than 5 minutes. Don't get me wrong it won't survive a trip through a washing machine, or a smash with a hammer, but for your everyday use, it feels pretty rugged compared to your cheap drives. The slider is impressive, I know it's just a slider, but it feels premium, it clicks into place and doesn't push back in too easily. The speed is the best thing about this, I transferred 45Gb of data in about 8 minutes. Compared to other drives I've used, this is incredible. Some have said that the transfer rates drop with the lower capacities, I haven't looked at that, but maybe something to watch out for, I have the 64GB which I believe is the highest capacity model. Also, don't forget that for these speeds you'll need a USB 3.0 port which older computers might not have.Personally I like the look of it, it clearly isn't a cheap item. I briefly used the encryption software that comes with it, which seems to work well enough, but I just don't really need it for what I'm backing up so just left it.If you just want a drive for carrying around to transfer random bits and bobs that don't meant that much to you, then you're definitely better off going to an event and picking up a freebie, or getting a cheap one off of Amazon. But if you want something that will last, and will transfer things ridiculously quickly, and you aren't too bothered with spending a bit of extra cash, then this is the USB drive for you.

I do not like its appearance: very long (7cm), fat, not the greatest design, also expensive, bought it just because of its speed. Almost returned it (I forgot to install usb3 drivers) this flash drive had just 26mb/s write speed. With drivers installed it is working as advertised. I feel like I’ve been missing out for years now with the flash drives I’ve had in the past…this is just so much faster! In the past I’ve always sacrificed speed for something else. In the case of my Corsair Flash Voyager I thought the rugged design and water resistance would be useful. I also have a SanDisk Cruzer Fit because I thought I wanted something super small, but in reality I now realise both those flash drives are ridiculously slow compared to this SanDisk Extreme drive.Every time you use SanDisk Extreme you see the benefit of the additional speed, so unless you’re taking your flash drive extreme downhill mountain biking each weekend it’s probably difficult to justify the speed sacrifice to go for something like the Flash Voyager.Similarly unless you're planning on permanently leaving it in your computer or carrying it on your keyring then there’s probably no reason to choose the ultra small flash drives like the Cruzer Fit.So to summarise, it’s not the most robust flash drive I’ve ever had, nor the smallest, but it’s certainly the fastest by some way and will be the one I carry around with me each day from now on.

I scoured the search engine results, read reviews, ratings and customer experiences before deciding on this one. The faster ones were far larger physically, but this is fast enough, and genuinely about ten times faster in use than the 5 year old pen/flash drive I had been using. I downloaded speedtest software and the speeds were confirmed that way too. I am happy - it is the right physical size, it is large in capacity, extremely fast and great for running programs/apps directly from it. I didn't bother with the secure folder stuff, but it comes with it. However, if you - like me - need to transfer very large files, then you will need to reformat for exFAT (it is FAT format, which is no good for massive files, and NTFS is not an option). exFAT is good too if you need to pop it into MACs as well as PCs. So why not all five stars? Well it's down to the build quality - I am not a fan of cheap plastic slide covers and the flashing operating light can only be seen from specific angles. I know, I am being picky, but hey it's my review.I highly recommend it - superb item for the money, just don't physically abuse it as it may break!

The first one I received did not work properly. Amazon picked it up the next day and the day after a replacement arrived which worked fine. Not often a product does not work - and the replacement service was excellent. 4 stars instead of 5 for not working first time.Speed of the flash drive is remarkable. I bought a Transcend flash drive also - 32GB USB 3 @ £8 - very cheap - but it achieved only 22MB/s when writing to it. The Sandisk achieved 115MB/s write speed from another fairly fast flash drive but may well have been willing to go faster except I have nothing else that can go that fast! My hard drive can only deliver 80MB/s. If writing a lot of data or big files then the speed is just great. The cost was £22 for 64GB. So 3 times the Transcend rate but double the size and at least 5 times as fast - maybe more if paired with a faster device to read from. Note the Transcend Jetflash 700 Super Speed USB 3 drive is not their fastest - they do an Extreme Speed 64GB @ £34 currently on Amazon or this slower one in 64GB @ £15. Seems to me the Sandisk is great value. The bigger the flashdrive the more significant the speed becomes.

I've had a USB 3.0 capable desktop and laptop computer for a while now, but didn't actually purchase a USB device capable of using these "super fast" ports before until around 3 months ago (not this one). It sucked, I had a different SanDisk model that had disappointingly low write speeds and felt like a waste of money. This put me off 3.0 flash drives for a while, until I got this one about 3 weeks ago.I have never experienced speeds this fast, I am able to copy an entire 50GB library of content to the device in mere minutes. I didn't even know I wanted write speeds this fast so badly until I got this model. I use it for both media storage and for fast booting live operating system distros (window, linux and mac). For all of these purposes it is absolutely excellent, I can create a live, bootable Ubuntu USB drive in less than 10 seconds. It does come with software that can be used for encrypting the drive but I personally formatted it the second I got it as I didn't need to use it (and the drive goes through a lot of formats anyway). Would highly recommend to anyone!

Bought this drive AGES ago from Curry's PC World and at the time I forked out a hefty 80 quid on it... It's much cheaper now, it seems, as is all tech, but do I regret my decision? NO.This drive is super speedy and easily reaches the rates 250MB/s, especially when paired with a computer/tablet that features an SSD drive (mine do). Have had no formatting errors, no data loss, have used it to reinstall Windows, have used it to watch movies on the phone when on-the-go, have used it to shift tons of data between PCs - this drive never let me down.Sure, it's a bit bigger than what you'd normally find now, but it's reliable and FAST - either of which other brands lack (I've personally had a Kingston drive fail on me,but never EVER a SanDisk product). And it looks slick too, I like the design. I wish it was anodized metal, but plastic works fine. I look after my tech, but even regardless of that - my drive still looks like new after years of usage. And I therefore give this product a solid 5* score... :)

Transferring large file and photo albums was taken a bit too long on my Cruzer Fit so I decided to get one of these even though I don't own a USB3.0 device yet but will no doubt have one in the near future. My computer is fairly old tech now but this memory stick is still impressive. Here are a couple of my personal benchmarks. This is from a fresh boot up, A/C powered laptop, Intel Core Duo 1.66ghz with 2gb RAM and 250gb Western Digital Hard drive.Cruzer Fit 16gb vs Cruzer Extreme 16gb984mb MP4 file copied to Cruzer Extreme = 50 seconds! (3 minutes 30 seconds with Cruzer Fit)Photo album containing 114 photos copied to Cruzer Extreme = 15 seconds (1 minute with Cruzer Fit)You should achieve faster speeds than this with the higher capacity Extreme. The pay off is the size of the stick itself. It isn't small, especially compared to the Cruzer Fit which is incredibly tiny but this is not meant to replace my Cruzer Fit, just get the files I want copied quicker and this certainly does that!

You should really look for differences between manufacturers when buying a USB 3.0 stick - they are not all the same, far from it! Actually, the differences are HUGE. I made a comparative test with this and a Transcend USB3.0 stick. Both sticks were tested right after unpacking, after similar formatting, in the same USB 3.0 slot. You can view the results here: [...]The test results show that the Transcend is a lousy product reaching only about 1-10 % of the writing speed of the SanDisk Extreme. Remember, the writing speed is the 'bottleneck' in USB flash sticks! If you want to achieve true USB 3.0 speeds,I strongly recommend investing a little bit more and buying a quality product like Sandisk Extreme. The only possibly negative thing with this stick I can think of is that the USB plug head is unsealed, so dust and dirt may accumulate to it in the long term if you carry it on the bottom of your pocket. I don't know if this is a real problem, time will tell.

Upon purchasing a new USB flash drive, I scoured the internet for reviews and wound up with this product. As expected, it is a great flash drive, It's solid, the sliding mechanism feels solid as well and it looks nice, not at all gimmicky, although it is entirely plastic. As for performances, I have not had a chance to put it to much use yet, but 3.0 speed for me (on an MBA) are ~150 MBps for read and 70-80 MBps for write, maybe 90 MBps for burst.USB 2.0 speeds are aprox. 25 MBps read/write.These results are on my configurations of PCs, of course and you may experience something slightly different. As of time of writing,I have yet to encounter any issues with the Sandisk Cruzer Extreme and fully recommend it as the best option for any Flash Drive need (maybe except if you need one of those survival flash drives, it doesn't seem that resilient). Best speeds (it gest better with higher storage) and good price.
