These worked really well for me on my Pennine Way 268 mile thru-hike, completed recently. I guess this qualifies me to give an opinion.I walk in shoes, not boots. Gravel, small stones, bits of vegetation, etc, easily get into the top of the shoe and if you wear short ankle socks (as I do), bits get in your socks too. These gaiters stopped all of that completely. BUT you need to get the right size.I take a size 11 in a shoe and you'd think I would need a large size gaiter - but no. I read the reviews and got the MEDIUM.I have normal-to-thin ankles and I have found that the MEDIUM gaiter fitted perfectly, enabling a good comfy fit around the ankle to keep debris out, whilst allowing the full velcro (hook and loop)overlap to function at keeping the gaiter firmly in place after wrapping it around your ankle. There is also a rubberised strap that goes under the shoe to keep the gaiter positioned correctly as you walk and prevent it riding up.I covered usually 20 miles a day on the PW and max'd at 28 miles on one day. I did not have to stop even ONCE to re-adjust these gaiters. They kept in place and functioned really well. I was really impressed. They wash easily and dry quickly. They don't snag or otherwise get in the way when walking. I walked sometime with and sometimes without waterproof over-trousers and the gaiters didn't get in the way or cause any problems. This was one of the "surprise" pieces of kit on the walk. I wasn't going to bother with gaiters at all, but these were really useful and I'm glad I had them. Not a day went by when I didn't actually use them. In fact, when I set off, I left them at home, but quickly ran into problems with grit and debris getting into my shoes and socks. When my "Trail Angel" met me half-way, I asked her to bring the gaiters from home. After that I used them for the rest of the 150 miles or so of remaining PW and can't remember one episode of getting any debris in my shoes or socks when they were used.Well worth the money and also light enough to take on long-distance walks. A good bit of kit.

Great item, I love the Salomon brand. All my Salomon trainers fit perfect and I actually needed these to go with my Inov8's which I had bought before discovering Salomon Speedcross. Inov8s have a much lower back than the Salomons and that just didn't fit me, and I needed something to stop my foot slipping out of the shoe. I didn't like the look of the Inov8 gaiters, didn't look sturdy enough, so I opted for these. I had decided because of my love for my Speedcross that for obstacle races I would use the Inov8s, because if I was destined to lose a shoe, I would rather it be one of them and not a Salomons. I tried them out, combined with my Inov8s on a hour trail run, and they worked perfect.Shoe stayed put and no debris got in. Then for the big test, I took a leap of faith and went straight on to do a 13k obstacle race (Major Series North). I couldn't have been more happier, shoes stayed on, even through knee deep mud which would have easily sucked off a shoe or two (which did actually happen to those poor gaiterless souls). They stayed fastened and in place, No chaffing and I had no trouble with debris entering the shoes and felt confident the whole race. I would definitely recommend them.

I got the size large..there wasnt any other sizes available..i wear a 11mens u.s hiking boot its a little bit of a sloppy fit on the top..the flap ect..will it keep dirt and rocks out..yes..the strap on the bottom is made out of a thick rubber/plastic..ill get to my point..i bought mine to go ontop of my work boots to keep debris out..so i just cut thev straps off and they work like that too..i did try them on my running shoes and the strap did not trip me up like i thought..although i cant say i would have much the same when running threw stuff they could snag on and trip you up as with any graiter ..but the strap fit pretty flush to the bottom..as far as how durable the strap is..i had to use wire cutters to cut them off..I use them for lawn maintenance and the fabric has lasted 2 years before ripping and they still work. I'm buying a new pair now Solomon is the best company for all your needs..it is the highest quality and fit I have ever used with boots as well. SOLOMON IS THE BEST COMPANY IN THE WORLD ..PERIOD

I purchased these for a Tough Mudder event. So far that has been the only time I have used them. They did what I hoped they would - kept rocks and other large debris out of my shoes. The only negative I could give them wouldn't really be fair since under normal use they should work just fine (which is why I didn't doc the score for this), but for anyone getting them for mud runs - the velcro started to come undone a few miles in due to all the mud, water, hay etc., though they did stay on for the full event. Ran the last 6 miles with them half peeled off and couldn't get the velcro to stay down due to the mud/hay. All in all, I am very glad I had them.Oh,and as I read somewhere else before purchasing - check your shoes to make sure there is a channel between the heel and front portion of the tread for the strap to fit in, otherwise you will likely damage the strap or have it slip off while running.

Got these to keep grit and sand from getting into my running shoes. They work like a dream. I run on dry mountain trails and was forever getting annoying bits of rock and stuff in my shoes. Absolutely fixed this problem. They don't sag down, and remained in place perfectly. I can even feel the change in the added insulation around my foot, which feels good. Another small thing is that they are snug enough to give a bit more of a feel to my ankle and foot which seems to be reassuring in terms of running on uneven terrain. My shoe is a Salomon Speedcross 4 size 12.5. I got the large gaiter, and the fit overall very well. I am not sure about the hard rubber strap that goes under the shoe yet.I am concerned it will be the first thing to wear out, but the first 6 miles shows no wear yet.

I wear these almost year ‘round with low top work boots for farming. Whether I’m walking through crop stubble, tall grass pasture, cow lots or gravel driveways, these gaiters keep small debris out of my boots. The only debris they won’t keep out is corn or soybeans when I’m walking around in piles of grain, a minor issue given their overall performance and reliability. I wore my first pair for two years before replacing them. I agree that these run big, a large was almost too big for size 13 work boots, which I had to remedy by pulling the gaiters over the front of my boots instead of the rear. I’ve not had any problems with them slipping off, though my soles have a good heal on them, which provides a decent notch for the bottom band to grab on to.

These are outstanding gaiters, and very simple to put on/take off. I use these with Salomon Speedcross CS shoes for snowshoe running. They grip just above the ankle, but below the tops of my mini crew socks. Ranging from puddles to deep wet or dry snow, these gaiters have always kept me dry and kept the snow out of my shoes. I typically wear sporthill XC pants, which grip a bit at the ankles and overlap with the gaiters, so snow seldom cakes up above the gaiters onto my leg. They stretch around the heel, sides, and top of the foot to create an excellent seal with the shoe without messing with drawcords and shoelaces and whatnot. The top seal around the ankle is effective without being too tight or rubbing.I highly recommend these gaiters.

I was looking for something g to wear for a large mulching project to help keep all of thst crap out of my shoes. I wanted something just large enough to cover the opening in my shoes and something light weight/breathable since I'll already be sweating enough. This product is exactly what I was looking for with only one drawback - I used the sizing guide and ordered accordingly, I had read the reviews of others saying that they run large and to order a size smaller - I should have followed those recommendations. Even though I'm wearing them on larger shoes (almost a work boot) they are still a little loose on the top.I'll parrot the recommendations - it's a good product, just get a size smaller than suggested.

I just wore these for a four day backpacking trip which lasted about 50 miles. They held up fine and no dirt or rocks in my trail runners despite being on loose dirt and even sand. I like to hike with my trailrunners tied loose and these definitely helped keep debris out and I didn’t experience blisters on the ankles even though I wore low socks. I was worried the band under the shoe would wear out but it hasn’t done so yet. In addition the Velcro didn’t lose its property of adherence. I wear size 9.5 women’s and I got a medium. Small didn’t fit my shoe. I’ll probably get an extra bc I’ve been putting lots of miles in w these even before the backpacking trip and i don’t want to be stuck withoutthem.

I entered the Mid Atlantic Tough Mudder and was worried about rock, sticks and other debris getting in my shoes during the run. Well I'm pleased to say after 12 miles of pure cross country hell not one twig or pebble made it in to my shoes. I seen many people stopping along the trail to empty rocks out of shoes. I even saw a few mangled bloody toes do to debris getting in the shoes. I'm pleased to report these gators work better than expected the were perfect in every way. I would def recommend these gaiters for Tough Mudder or any cross country run. I have a size 11.5 shoe and could only get the med sized gaiters, the chart said I would need a large gaiter but the mediums worked great.

So far so good, did a trail marathon race in them on my Lab Sense 3 and the bottom strap does not stay put but then again I was running at a fast pace over technical trail and really didn't expect it to hold. Bottom strap moved slightly down toward my heel, did not break or rip, did not affect my stride. Does what it's supposed to do and that is it kept out any debris into my sock/shoes. Seems like it's going to last as i've done about 40 trail miles on them prior to race. I like because I feel these help keep my ankles slightly warmer in the cold. I got these on sale ($30) or I would not have bought.

These were purchased for a Tough Mudder race and performed as expected. My shoes stayed on my feet and I didn't get any rocks in my shoes. There was smaller sediment in my socks and shoes at the end of my race but nothing that caused skin irritation. I strongly recommend these.Pros:- Easy to put on and remove- Helps to keep shoes on your feet when walking through water and muddy areas- Keeps pebbles and larger sediment out of shoes and socksCons:- can rub on the ankles if not positioned properly beforehand. Finding the proper position before walking through muddy areas is a good idea.

The gaiters work well and stay snug. The size is listed as fitting up to size 12, but they fit my size 14s well. Keep in mind that these will not work on shoes with flat bottoms. You need to have a space between the mid foot and the heel that is raised to prevent wear and tear on the gaiter's under-shoe strap.I bought a pair of waterproof Saloman trail running shoes just for the gaiters (I know, like the tail wagging the dog), but the entire setup is worth it, and my feet stay nice and dry without all the sand dumped by trucks onto the snow all winter getting inside.

Can you go out and get taller, bulkier, gaiters that will protect you better when out in taller, thicker scrub? Sure - but can you purchase better gaiters than these to use to participate in mud obstacle races? No Way!!! these things are great. Once you figure out how to get these things on, and get them properly fastened, you won't have to think about them again until your event is over and you are ready to take your shoes off. They move with you, they stay snug, and they keep everything out - perfect.

Bought these for a Spartan race and feel they did a good job at keeping mud and other debris out of my shoes. In fact, they did such a good job, that when I took them off at the end of the race, the upper part of my shoes (Salomon Speedcross) looked exactly like they did before the race started. I found they were a little finicky to get seated properly on the shoes, but once there I hardly noticed them. If I do another one of these races, I would defiantly use them again.
