The pants have a relaxed waist, stretchable. I've hiked with them on 40 degree scouting trips through the Appalachia's and also in 120 degree heat in the desert in Qatar. They are made of polyester, which naturally absorbs zero moisture vs cotton which absorbs 27 times its weight in water. That means they will dry very quickly. A couple hours out on a line will dry them effectively, or being worn after a rainstorm. Because they don't absorb much moisture, they are surprisingly warm, and they do a decent job of blocking the wind. That wind resistance is what makes them OK to hike in fall/spring weather when the temperatures are in the upper 40s, lower 50s.You'll want a thicker material if hiking in anything colder than that.In extreme heat, they do wick the moisture away. In Qatar I found that after travelling 200 ft from an air conditioned bunker across the desert (and it's a wet moisture due to the Persian Gulf), you were completely drenched in sweat. That heat is just a few degrees away from being the maximum that people can endure due to the moisture in the air. The paints would dry quickly once inside again, and protect you from the sun. They are a very light cloth that doesn't feel uncomfortable in extreme heat.I would say the durability is pretty good, I've had one of the forward pocket in one of my paints fail due to the stitching, and some of the material is now starting to look thread bear. For those doing things on the water, I've found these shorts travelling in a rigid inflatable boat in salt water will again dry pretty quickly after being dosed by a bow wave, cotton underwear will be your down fall! Salt absorbs water, and in and of itself can quickly lead to rashes, this fabric absorbs no saltwater per say, so will dry especially if you splash down with a bit of fresh water shortly after you've landed. In sum, they are very effective pants to wear while boating. They pack very light, and do not show wrinkles. You can pack them down in a backpack and they weight almost nothing and take up very little room. The bottoms are compact enough you can remove them and put them in the front pockets. The belt isn't very fancy, but I haven't had any fail, and I've found they are the ideal size for emergency tourniquets (tie it, don't use the buckle), which I've had to do. It's probably not everyone's list of reasons to buy a belt, but unlike leather and dress belts, this can be used to synch something down. I've also used it to synch down loads backpacking when I couldn't find anything else and SUV roof racks. The color works well, and unlike everything else I have, has never born out a stain. Again, that's a nice feature of polyester, the dye is permanent, everything else washes away like engine grease, blood, mustard, dirt. When wet they don't look obviously wet with the color unlike the lighter versions. They don't fade, or pile, but will eventually start to wear, like everything else.In appearance, they aren't formal wear, but from casual dining in Doha to Annapolis, they fit the bill. Of course, they don't look out of place on a military base or a camping trip. They aren't so GI that they scream "search me for hidden weapons and cans of chewing tobacco".Overall I say they deserve around 4.5 stars, with the sole objection being a bit better stitching for the pants pockets, though I have carried probably fairly heavy things in them, so they were under a bit of load.Since I can't choose 4.5 stars, I choose 5.

Standard for all my reviews: When reviewing products, I always remain objective and honest about the product or service. I always review with information that I feel others would like to know about the product as I always assume what I'm writing will influence for or against the purchase. I always try to go above and beyond surface characteristics and input into quality, value and application. Most importantly, I will always end the review with an answer as to whether I'd purchase the product again which I believe is the most critical question pertaining to the item. To manufacturers: Want me to review your items, just let me know! Was looking for hiking pants to take with us on our three week adventure in New Zealand with temps in the mid to high 50s and some rain..After trying multiple other brands in hopes of finding hiking pants that didn't look ridiculous on me, had the right weight, pockets and feel, I ended up with two pairs of the Silver Ridge from Columbia, 34x34.I'm 6'1"/190 and a true 34x34 fit in most pants. Many other hiking pants were very tight through the thighs and crotch or didn't hang well in the length. In most cases, I haven't found hiking pants to be fashionable so it's about looking as non-ridiculous as possible while still having pants that are functional.Once these pants arrived, the material seemed light enough and the colors were true to their on-screen appearance. Trying them on I was immediately hopeful. They were light but hung well, didn't crowd my legs in the thigh and the crotch areas wasn't overly tight as I've found in other pants of this style. I decided to keep both pairs based on fit alone. In service, these pants worked great. While I never unzipped the legs to convert them to shorts, I did use them quite often in both low 60s temps all the way down to the high 40s and low 50s in rain. The pants aren't waterproof but they do seem to shed water well enough for my taste. They were easily warm enough in lower temps and considered converting them to shorts in the upper 50s/low 60s. These pants would function well in the upper 30s in my opinion. The pockets are well laid out and function well, not overly saggy or too tight. The fabric belt isn't fancy but does the job. As mentioned previously, the fit is true at a 34/34 size which I needed and immediately won me over. Returning from our trip, I'm really glad I have these two pairs of pants in my drawer for the light hiking we do here in the PacNW. I'd recommend these pants to anyone looking for an all-around light weight hiking pant.

First of all, the shipping was extremely fast. I placed the order on Friday night around 11 PM, and the pants were at my door steps on Sunday before 11 AM. I was expecting a 2-workday delivery but Amazon did it over the weekend! Now about the pants. I normally buy 32W/32L pants and in most cases they hang on my hips, not at my waist. I like it that way because it gives me a little more room around my hips even though the legs are about 1" too long. These pants, however seem to be a small 32W. They actually sit at my waist. There is a little bit of elastic in the waistband, and for me this elastic is already somewhat stretched out- I feel maybe a 1/2" give when I pull on the waistband.Another thing is that recently I lost about 3 lbs, so let's hope that i'll keep it off, or else I may find these pants to be on the tight side. The legs are also narrow, but my thighs are not overly muscular so this will not be a problem. I prefer the slim look rather than bagginess in my pants anyway, and there is no restriction of leg movements. However, if you are on the other (plus) side of 32W you may find these pants a little too tightly fitting.Overall the workmanship seems to be good, no missing or unraveling stitches as reported by other reviewers, but I've only worn them for a few hours so far. I bought these pants for traveling and I think they will fit the bill very well. They are light-weight (much thinner than jeans) and will not take much room in a suitcase. The color should be good to hide some unavoidable dinginess accumulated in airplanes, airports, buses and taxis.UPDATE: After wearing these pants around the house (mostly sitting and watching TV) for two days I realized that they actually felt a little too tight around the waist when sitting. While they might've been fine for just walking around, this made them a poor choice for long air travels (flights, layovers, etc). I ordered another pair, this time 34W32L, and these look as good but feel much better; i hardly notice that i'm wearing them. I think that if Columbia made 33W size it would be perfect for me. I've returned the smaller pair. The benefit of having Amazon Prime is that the whole process was very fast and simple

Bought these for a 14 mile day hiking trip (36x30) but when I got them in they were just too small. The trip was the next day after i got them so i ran to sports authority and spent about 15$ more for the same pair in a bigger size (38x30). This inconvenience doesnt warrant four stars and heres why. These were awesome! We started out in pouring rain, and although i had a poncho and a pack cover, these were the only bottoms i brought. It rained for an hour maybe and we were soaked. Finally it stopped and only ten minutes later it seemed my pants were dry already. Yesssss!Score one for pants. As we got about 7 miles in, i noted that by now I would usually have some sort of chafing going on around the belt area or the seams by the thigh area. There was none. These were comfortable the entire time. The seams are very small and flat and although i thought the belt was odd, the belt area touching my skin did not rub raw even when wet.Score two for pantsFrom about mile 10 to the end it was blistering hot. The sun was beating down but my legs were fine. Not hot at all which is a huge improvement over other pants I've tried. I didnt even need to unzip the legs on this trip. I do believe these have uv protection anyways but that was not the reason i bought them.Score three for pants! These did so well on my trip that i exchanged the small ones on amazon for a bigger size instead of just getting a refund. Now I have two pairs of great hiking pants.Pros:*15-20$ less expensive on amazon than our sports authority.*lightweight and cool*moisture wicking/fast drying*legs zip off!*no chafingCons:*very thin. (dries fast but I can see these getting torn in the future)*the bottoms of the legs dont zip. (if i were wearing boots, i would have to take my boots off to get the legs off)*sizes on amazon run small. (All of my other pants are 36x30. The length is spot on but the waist is a size small.)Overall I would definitely buy these again.

First all of, for some context I stand 5'9 and weigh 145lbs meaning I'm "lean" but certainly not "rail thin, etc."I ordered these pants in a size 30/32 and they fit almost like they were custom made for my frame.I've read some reviews claiming these pants fit like "skinny jeans..". No, they will only fit like "skinny jeans" if you do not have a lean physique and or you're just over-weight.These pants were obviously designed for people who are active and physically fit for the most part. So when you read these reviews claiming they fit like "skinny jeans" just remember what I said.Others have claimed that these jeans don't leave enough room in the thigh area..Okay so I certainly don't have a large frame (I'm a distance runner with a distance runner build basically) but I don't have "chicken legs".My thighs measure 22.5 inch circumference and calves are 14 inches. Keeping in mind I'm 5'9 and 145lbs. My legs are a bit on the longer end as most people my height wear a 30 inch inseam compared to my 32.No I wouldn't exactly recommend these pants for doing squats but that's not what they were designed for. These pants allow for plenty of range of motion and are overall very comfortable and extremely light weight and breathable. So overall, these pants are of excellent quality and pretty much anybody with a lean physique should be more than happy with them. Please if you are on the bigger side of the spectrum don't waste your time. You'll just end up bitter and writing bad reviews on a product that doesn't actually warrant a bad review. You have to remember that pants or any other item of clothing isn't going to be necessarily "custom made" for your particular body type / state of physical condition. This doesn't mean the product is "bad" only that you need to continue on shopping for something that fits "you".

I work outdoors a lot as a construction manager and have been researching lightweight, moisture-wicking, reasonably priced cargo pants. After reading the reviews, I ordered a pair of these Columbia Silver Ridge pants. Long-term durability remains to be seen, but so far these are the most comfortable pants I think I have ever owned. It's like wearing very utilitarian pajama bottoms. I stay very comfortable, even in the 95+ degree, 90+ % humidity weather here in the deep South. They fit great, are very lightweight, take up very little space in a bag and are extremely functional. I have since ordered 2 more pair of the Silver Ridge (and a pair of prAna Stretch Zions to evaluate, have not received them yet).I wash them with other clothes and hang to dry, they are wearable in about an hour.A caution about the fit. I have an athletic build, 6', 175 lbs and usually wear 33 waist/32 inseam pants. The Silver Ridge have elastic on the sides so I ordered 34 waist/32 inseam. These were good in the waist but about 2" too long, so returned and exchanged for 34w/30i and was rewarded with an outstanding fit. Not to crazy about the cheesy little belt that comes with them, wish Columbia would keep the belt and lower the price a few bucks, but that's a minor quibble. These pants appear to be great for any outdoor activity like working, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc... Will try to update in 6 months regarding the durability. I own products from all the big names TNF, OR, Arcteryx, Patagonia and they usually have outstanding performance. The Columbia products generally perform as well for less $, making them outstanding values.Lot's 'o bang for the buck, I'll buy more and recommend them to my friends

One word for the Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible Pants.....A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!I'm 26 years old. I was afraid I'd be judged and ridiculed by my peers for purchasing and overusing pants that turn into shorts. To be honest, I stopped listening to my friends after the first criticism because I was in paradise wearing these glorious pants. When I'm in these bad boys, I feel like I might as well just never take them off. Here's why:-The fabric feels like it was developed in the future and sent back to Columbia via time machine. There's no way you can make something SO comfortable with modern day textile factories. All kidding aside, I traveled 24 hours in planes in these pants and I can't think of anything better to wear.-Length and width were as advertised. The scary part of ordering clothes online are always the dimensions. You ask yourself "will I be getting another set of clown clothes?" Not in this case. Don't order too small in the waste, as the belt allows you tighten things up nicely.-Did I mention these turn into SHORTS?! I don't care if 40 year old men rock these all day, I'm right there with them. My friends were making fun of me until they started sweating their asses off in jeans. I simply zipped and ripped...bam I was wearing shorts!!! The zippers are very high quality, no snags and easy to reassemble (even though you look ridiculous if you put the shins back on while your wearing the shorts). All in all, these are great pants for walking long distances, traveling, and making everyone else look like an amateur. "Transform" your life and buy these bad boys. You won't give a crap what people say when your legs feel like they are resting in between sheets of pure joy.

I will just start saying that I have a terrible time finding comfortable, well fitting pants, there always seems to be some kind of problem with them, especially jeans. So much so,that I don't even look for other pants since I've discovered these! These are the most comfortable pants I've ever worn, they are very light weight,do not get hot like other pants, dry very fast if wet, roll up very small for trips, packing etc....I've worn them hiking and walking 8 miles plus, and nothing bothered me about these pants, also a plus that they can be unzipped and converted to shorts if need be,but so far I haven't had to do that.I actually wear these pants almost everywherethey look good enough to wear out onthe town,or for work if you can wear them.I didn't really buy them for one specific thing, but I do often do outdoor type activities where wearing comfortable fast drying pants is definitely an advantage.Being from Texas means mostly heat to deal with, although they are fine down to maybe low 50's or so,maybe even 40"s depending on your cold tolerance. They are very thin nylon material, not really suitable for extreme cold,or freezing weather but for the heat these pants are awesome! I'm 5ft.10 and around 167 pounds and got size 34X30,they fit great, not too big,not too small...I will note that it seems to me that the darker colors seem to be ever so slightly smaller than the lighter colors, but not so much as to cause a problem. The only complaint I have is the mesh pockets, not sure how they will hold up over time? But so far so good, thats only reason I didn't give them five stars.Go ahead and purchase these pants, you will like them!weat

I'm a long distance thru- hiker. My weight fluctuates as I lose 20 pounds during the months on the trail and slowly gain it back before starting in these pants again. Sewn on buttons did not cut it for me. Even though mine pop when I gain weight during my off months, I prefer knowing that I have a waist button that is reliable. These deliver. Overall these pants are better constructed than the others that I have tried, and they are equally light.. Another key feature is that there is a zippered pocket on the left leg. I need to know that there is one zippered pocket. If you have extremely muscled thighs, these could be tight, but for me they work and I have average to big thighs- 5'10'200lb as I set out. I. order the 34 waist The belt is cheap but it is fine for me and light weight. But the waist does seem to have a little give of it's own but not much. What tends to happen for me is that they are on tight side at the waist and even the thighs starting out, but after a few weeks on the trail the fit is perfect and by the second or third month, the belt is actually being used as an aide to keep them tight Bottom line they are true to size in my case..The possible drawback in construction for some, may be that there is no velcro around the ankle. In other words, you will need to take off your hiking boots while converting them into shorts or vice-versa. This is minor for me. Breaks are usually welcomed. I also like to wear them a lot when I'm not hiking. These pants are good for everyday use as well. They look good too esp. the dark colors. Highly recommended.

Based on other reviews, I purchased one waist size larger than I normally wear. This was a mistake. My guess is that Columbia heard the initial feedback and redesigned the pants to fit more true-to-size. So I ended up with a good pair of pants, but they are too large now.I normally wear a 34" waist, but I ordered these pants in a 36" waist based on other reviews. When I first tried on the pants, they seemed OK. However, after wearing them constantly over a 10-day hiking trip, the waist loosened up so that the pants are now too baggy. About 2 inches too baggy, in fact. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered the 34" waist size and then "broken them in" before my trip. To be honest, pants shouldn't have to be "broken in", but I recommend that if you buy these pants, buy the size you normally get and then wear them around the house for a few days before you go on trip.I also ordered a Columbia shirt for the trip, and it ran large (I normally wear a Large but the Medium fit me perfectly). Columbia makes good stuff, but it's hard to know what size to order. They really need to get a handle on the fit of their clothes. This is a key problem that the company needs to address.Aside from the fit issue, these pants were very good. Cool, comfortable, sturdy, good sun protection, well made. I also bought a pair of NorthFace pants for my trip, and after wearing both pants during my trip, I have a slight preference for the NorthFace pants. I rate the NorthFace pants 5 star, and these Columbia pants 4 star.

These pants are extremely comfortable, almost like wearing pajama bottoms but with more substance to them. There is a little area of elastic around the waist-band that snugs them up perfectly on me in the waist. I normally wear a 31 inseam, but like so many other pants on the market, these were listed only in even inseam lengths so I selected a 32. Perhaps they are a little short to be a true 32, but they fit fairly well on me for the inseam. There are enough pockets on them to work well as travel pants and most of them have velcro closures to keep things secure and one pocket has a zipper. My two complains are that the material is a little thin and the belt buckle seems flimsy. The material is rip-stop nylon with spandex so it is going to strong enough for hiking, etc. but you can feel air passing through them. These pants are perfect for Spring, Summer and most of Fall. They should keep you cool on a summer hike. However, I can tell by wearing them that they will be too cool for me during the winter, particularly if the wind is blowing and the temperature is below 45 degrees. However, they are excellent for summer weather as full pants or as shorts and for most of the Spring-Fall seasons. Very comfortable when the temperature is in the upper 80s. They are not wind-proof or water-proof. They are quick drying so you could wash them in a sink in the evening and they will be dry in the morning. They can be tightly folded to save space when packing your suitcase.

The pants naturally feel “sturdy” and not paper thin like some generic Light Weight brands. The waist band will take up any looseness and the incorporated belt will insure your pants stay where they are supposed to. It is difficult to find a good pair in my size because quite honestly out of shape guys like me that are in their senior years are the exception to the norm when it comes to hiking. To say it bluntly, I hate the thought of all that exercise but realize the benefit I could get from it, so..... I need the gear. Columbia Silver Ridge has pants in my size that fit in the waist, butt and length. These are convertible pants with zipper on/off legs. The Zippers are smooth and so far have not hung up or caused a problem. The pockets are not all that large but I personally will not be carrying anything in them out side of a couple of energy bars. I’d say for the money, you get a good bang for the buck. These are 3 season pants that require base layering early spring late fall. Would not use for winter. Quality is good enough to keep year to year and to fix the occasional rip or snag. If you are reading this and disagree with my review please remember I am in my 70’s and breaking new ground here. Old dog New trick sort of thing. These are mid priced and mid quality. Buy em, you just might be surprised. Disclaimer: Columbia Silver Ridge has a few different pants fro stretch to husky and slim fit. These are the REGULAR FIT pants.

First, many thanks to the reviewer who suggested buying these a size up if you'll be wearing these for active pursuits. I did just that and the extra roominess was exactly perfect for hiking a portion of the AT.These pants are very light, and as such very comfortable. I didn't have any issues with durability, although I will say the belt that comes with the pants is rubbish. Do yourself a favor and replace the belt with the 5.11 TDU 1.5-Inch Belt. The combination is superb. My only real nit with these pants is the zipper design, on both the pant legs and the fly. They are fine-toothed zippers, meaning they will likely not hold up under serious outdoor activity. So if you're looking to wear these on anything but casual hikes (even intermediate I'd be careful), know that the zippers may cause you trouble down the line.I will say that I had to go across a stream and took a wrong step which resulted in a very wet leg. Within 30 minutes the pant leg was quite dry. So when people are saying these are fast-drying pants, they are not exaggerating.Quick note - I ordered the gravel color. The color is hard to make out on the photo. It's not as olive drab as it looks, but rather olive with a healthy amount of gray cast to it. Think very dark olive khaki, darker than, say, Boy Scout uniform pants. It is a very outdoorsy color.I'm very happy with these pants. They are versatile and work well!

These pants are light-weight and seem to breathe pretty well. I've only gone hiking in them a couple of times and so far no quality issues have been observed. I'm not sure if most of these "convertible" pants have this feature, but one nice thing is that on the detachable portion the zipper has a left/right tag on the zipper, so you don't accidentally try putting the wrong leg on shorts.I have two complaints (well, one is really just more of a personal preference):- The first is I would prefer a longer shorts section.- The second that, especially on longer hikes (or hikes in Hawaii anyway) conditions can change and you figure that's why you'd want convertible pants...Maybe you need long pants for a bit and then shorts. I went on a hike the other week that when I started it was early and tad chilly so I wore the long pants. By the time I got to the top it was hot, humid and there was no wind and I wanted to take off the bottom parts of the pants. There wasn't really a great spot to sit down and the pant legs were too narrow to take off without removing my hiking shoes (Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid). A couple other pairs of convertible pants I have have zippers that run up the side part way that allow you to remove them without removing your shoes.Maybe that's a dumb complaint, but it bugged me. If that won't bother you then hey, great pants!

I bought these and two other brands for a fishing trip two June's ago. Fly-in trip so I knew weight was an issue and thought 3 pair of zip off pants would be the way to go. I was right. Unfortunately the other two brands had comfort and fit issues, but these were very comfortable and fit really well. So, in the hopes that covid won't stop this year's trip I bought two more pair.In addition to the comfort, the zippers all held up well. Getting the legs back can be time consuming, but that's not unique to this brand. However, the ability to take off the legs and put them back on based on the weather conditions make them a great choice. 3 pair of these for a week and you can leave the shorts or long pants at home.Recommended for not only fishing, but also for golf. I took a pair to Florida this January, wore the long legs to start the day and made them shorts as the day warmed up. They are stylish enough regardless of legs on or off.The only negative is what do you do with the legs once they are zipped off. These are small enough to put in a pocket so you don't loose them. Just don't put them in the bottom of the boat and hope the wind doesn't blow them in to the lake - LOL! Yes, that's personal experience talking.
