Best trekking, bush crafting, camping, outdoor wilderness pants. Okay, I don't want to get too excited, but these are by far the best outdoors pants I've purchased. I primarily use these for camping, backpacking, and wilderness adventures. Let's start with the fit. This fit is great, but got a bit confusing with the sizing for US. You will need to go to their website to get the equivalent US size. They're incredibly comfortable due to the way the cut the pants. It avoids binding and stretching in uncomfortable places when you're in need to bend, kneel, or extend yourself on your adventure. Specifically, you can pull your knee up to your chest to help you get up large rocks or hill without riding up your seat or private bits. The cut also allows plenty of mobility without making the pants bulky or with extra materials that tend parachute out or catch on things in the brush. You can fill the pockets without losing flexibility and comfort, even when the pockets are packed with your tools. The no-pocket seat is a nice touch since playing in the outdoors like I do, I can spend a lot of time sitting or sliding over various terrain. The seat is extra durable as well as the knees. A cool feature is that you can slide pads into the double-knee design and avoid bringing knee pads when bush crafting or doing camping chores that require you to be on your knees for an extended amount of time. The pants are not waterproof, but you can buy their wax and essentially waterproof them. I wanted to note that these are not waterproof, but they are definitely water resistant. I took these out on a camping trip to test them. This including camping in the rain and a lot of fishing that required me to spend a lot of time traversing huge rocks to get to a decent fishing spot. I was very comfortable doing my camp chores, such as acquiring wood, processing wood, and starting a fire. The pants took quite the beating, being scraped and scratched from going through thick brushes and sliding around on my seat and knees traversing the terrain. I spent some time out in the pouring rain from a Sierra Nevada thunderstorm dumping buckets on to us. The water never made it through. I had to get into the water just below my hiking boot and had to dunk the cuffs for some time while I had to free a fish I caught and tangled itself in the shoreline bushes. The pants shed the water quickly and kept my feet dry. I the warm months, I didn't need to wear anything under them, but I would imagine you would definitely need a base layer in the colder months. They breath well when hiking and under strenuous work. I swear while I was on this trip I notices some scratch and nicks on the pants and I assumed the pant seat would look worse. When I got home, after running it through a dirty, dusty, damp, wet, muddy, chore-filled camping trip, they still looked brand new. I imagine my non-leather seats must have given them a buffing, but nothing simply stuck to these pants. When I say they looked brand new, they didn't eve look dirty or worn. I own tactical pants that claim they could do all this, but I always found these statements were never true. If Fjallraven claimed this, it would be true. The only reason you could tell they were used was the smell of the campfire on them. The only thing I can't confirm is the longevity of these pants. They are expensive, but Amazon seems to keep them well below the retail price. That being said, my experience alongside the other reviews I've read on Amazon and other websites seem to match in regards to the comfort, features, and durability. If you're on the fence, I would recommend you take the leap. I simply love these pants.

The title pretty much sums it up but I plan to go into an in-depth review & overview of these pants. I hope that Fjallraven becomes better known in the United States so we can see more of their products available here.SIZINGI am 5'7" 140 lbs. and my true waist measurement is around 29". I received the Size 44 which is advertised as a US 28. That is inaccurate. The size 44 is really a 30x32. The inseam measures 32" exactly. I wish there were more sizing options particularly for the inseam length but this is the shortest Fjallraven makes them available it seems. I shortened the inseam with a Euro Hem (aka Tricky Hem) so I could keep the original hems & their adjustable ankle straps.Note: According to Fjallraven's sizing guide the regular inseam length of a size 44 is 32". The long version has a 34" inseam. To get a shorter inseam length you would have to order a size 42. Size 42 has a 31" inseam length for regular but, of course, it would have a smaller waist as well.MATERIALThe G-1000 material is similar to tactical pants fabric, light yet very sturdy though the G-1000 is a bit stiffer & more rugged than my Tru-Spec tac pants. They are relatively quiet pants with a slight swish sound if your legs rub. Water beads up & rolls off them nicely. I haven't gotten them soaked but I spot cleaned them & it dried very quickly. I prefer this material over the delicate nylon or thin polyester that typical hiking pants are made of.FITThese pants are a slim fit but give good room for movement. The knee areas are slightly pre-curved and allow easier movement. I can lunge, high-step & kneel wearing 2 base layers underneath: 1 light merino wool & 1 thick fleece. Each of my upper legs is 20" around & with the base layers there is still comfort room in the thigh area.CONSTRUCTIONThere are no back pockets but instead there are several clever cargo pockets of varying size around the upper legs. However, because of the slim fit of these pants the options of what you can store in them are limited. They are not baggy so you cannot stuff the pockets with anything bulky. The hems have adjustable ankle straps built in with snap enclosures so you can tighten the bottoms around your boots to keep bugs/debris out. The hand-warmer pockets are a bit tight. In order to keep the fit of the pants slim & practical they went with a snug fit for the slashed hand pockets. There is extra fabric reinforcement on the knees/shins and on the rear-end of the pants. Stitching is well done and sturdy but I haven't slid down any hills yet to test it out. The pants are made in Vietnam, not Sweden, but Fjallraven has a legendary reputation so I have faith in their quality control.COLORI chose the Tarmac/Dark Olive color selection. The color 'Tarmac' is a light olive drab with a slight hint of gray. Very earthy. I tend to favor khaki-colored pants to spot ticks easier but the tarmac color is light enough. The Dark Olive reinforcement areas give a nice, brownish contrast.ORDERINGI'm glad Backcountry.com carries the Fjallraven brand. Hopefully they can expand on the Fjallraven products they carry. They arrived quickly with no issues.Overall a fantastic pair of trekking pants. They are very rugged & durable. I can go trailblazing without fear of my pants tearing on a snag. And as a slim guy these are the first hiking pants that actually fit well. Plus, they have a really cool look!

Right out the gate let me say I love these pants. I wear roughly (depending on the brand) 36W 32/33L . I bought the 52 regular pants. They fit great. just enough space that my outdoor belt tightens them up but not so loose as to feel like they will sag. They are a little long for me, but I would rather have them a bit on the longer side than short. They have a great ankle cinch so you can just tighten them up around your boots and allow the material to gather a small amount at the bottom. Now, to my question: What are you looking for? You really need to ask yourself this question. In all my reading and outdoor research as well as gear selection I have decide there are really two different sections of gear planning. One way to approach this is as a hiker. My best friend always thinks this way. He always wants the lightest gear he can get and considers some of my selections unwise due to weight. Which is a reasonable approach because you do have to live with the pack you load. The other angle is what I would call "bushcraft" or just plain out camping. In a camping situation you are primarily setting up "home" in the back country; in hiking you are primarily traveling through the back country. Now I know there will be a bit of both on most any trip. But you need to know what your main goal is. I am currently gearing up for a January camping trip here in lower Michigan. Definitely going to be cold. For this trip we won't be hiking super far (4 miles) but we will be camping in and hanging out most of the next day before loading up and heading back home. Just a simple overnight trip; but our focus is really camping. I have been building out this gear list knowing that I am carrying some heavy stuff that I wouldn't take on a hiking trip such as larger pots/pans, extra sleep mat for raised R-value, and possibly hatchet (which I wouldn't bother with on a hiking trip where you mostly just cook over a micro hiking stove). This is not the same packing list I will have for a hiking trip we are doing in late spring. For that I will have basic camp gear but I also have to outfit for day hikes we will do from our campsite.I feel like too many people think you have to choose one perspective or the other. I simply have some gear that will only come out in winter and some gear that will only come out in summer. I try to pick things that can do both as much as possible but I have accepted that if I want to have camping and hiking as a hobby i need to invest a little into gear that may only be good for one and not the other. You can certainly merge the two and just have one single setup but for my own sanity and comfort I am willing to drop a few extra dollars and curate my load out to the type of trip it is.In my opinion these pants are great for Bushcraft/camping. They are tight weave and a little stiff for the ease of hiking gear. I won't wear these on a summer hike. But for camping out or outdoor chores these are tough pants to keep me protected. The pocket designs are great too. Some pants have front of thigh pockets that ride goofy; these are perfectly situated as more of a side carry. They don't have butt pockets so if that is something you really want watch for that. The pockets are deep and I love the side handle carry through pouch (drop a hatchet handle through). So, know that these are awesome pants, but not for every task.

I don't normally write product reviews, but the Vidda Pro trousers are just plain awesome.Short story...I was in the market for some sort of cool cargo pant. I checked out Ralph Lauren and they had some cool waxed canvas cargo thing. G-Star has all kinds of cool cargos as well. As you can tell I'm not a hiker or outdoorsman. I'm a Brooklynite in NYC. I like cool clothes. 6ft2 I look good in my clothes. Anyway, so I'm not satisfied with G-Star, Ralph Lauren, or any of the big brands that I normally buy. Why? Cos as expensive and cool looking as they are, they wear somewhat quick, especially around the crotch. I'm tired of buying clothes all the time.So after a small search low and behold I run across this fine company Fjällräven and decided to get the Greenland Jeans.Yeah I studied them online, checked out the fit, reviews, etc. But I'm a different kind of guy then most people who buy them... my first thought is style. Second durability. Last cost.I got the Greenland Jeans and wow! They''re like Ralph Lauren, G-Star and anyone else, but just tough. I love the fit. And I actually wear them in more business casual situations, with a blazer and stuff. Then I thought, what about these Vidda Pro trousers I was eyeing?Got 'em and haven't looked back. These things are like a cross between cargo/chino, moto trousers, and outdoor toughguy trousers. The fit is just perfect. It's slightly baggier than the Greenland Jeans, but very proportional with all the pockets helping out. The bonus is the adjustable bottom ankle cuff. I where them a lot with cool loafers, slightly tapered in. Then I can wear them with danner boots and the cuff all the way open. And guys... the ladies LOVE THEM!! Seriously the girls check 'em out and the guys are always wondering where these cool pants come from.So in a nutshell... just get the pants. Very light weight and stylish to the height of being stylish. I can tell that I'll have these and the Greenland Jeans for a super duper long time. Boom!

I am a 32x31.5 and I purchased an EU48 long that translates to a US 32x32. The fit is nearly perfect. I purchased these for doing trail maintenance and backpacking in Fall, Winter, & spring. I think they will be to hot for summer, but I'll find out during trail maintenance weekends. I'm a sawyer, & brushcutter with some sidehill digging, so I need durable pants that can shed light rain occasionally. I have been using a pair of 100% nylon pants for the past 4 years and they are about wore out. I specifically needed cargo pockets and those types of pants that are light, durable, and water resistant are getting hard to find. The built in gaiters is a strap sewed into the cuff that you pull out and snap to the various snaps to tighten to desired fitment around your boots. I have a hard time finding pants that fit me well, and upon first trying them on, they seem to fit great. I have larger than usual legs from the thousands of miles I have backpacked over the past 6 years, that most pants that fit the waist properly are too tight in the legs or too loose. These seem to be just right.Edit:After wearing on their first trail maintenance weekend building steps and carrying muddy logs for water bars, they performed great. I could bend and move around without binding. They got wet and the water beaded up nicely. The temp was 90 and they were pretty comfortable for a synthetic blend. I wore them for the 6 hour round trip travel and was quite comfortable driving.

These pants are exceptional in every way, I feel that I've really found the ultimate outdoor pants. They're waterproof enough to use as casual snow pants. I've used them while snowshoeing and kneeled in the snow for extended periods with no issues (do wear a base layer though, they're not especially warm on their own). The pockets are good, I actually used the deep map pocket for a map while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. It's odd to me that there are no back pockets, which is a little bit annoying, but I understand why; the seat is double layered for added toughness, and pockets could catch and tear if being used in tough conditions. The right cargo pocket has a stretchy fabric slot inside which perfectly fits my iPhone 6 and wallet and keeps them from banging around against my leg. These pants fit as expected IF you follow their sizing chart. DO NOT order your normal pants size (Europeans, amirite?). I wear a 32" or 33" waist in all my other pants, but for these I ordered the US 34 / EU 50 size and they fit absolutely perfectly. Overall, I can't say enough good things about these pants and this brand. Fjallraven is now my go-to for outdoor pants, no question. I also bought a pair of Barents Pro Jeans for casual / everyday use (I'm a photographer and I want something I can beat up on a bit) and they have the toughness of the Vidda Pros without the cargo pockets, and have more of a casual, everyday look, while still being super tough.

Ok, here's the deal with these pants. First off I researched them a lot and knew I wanted them but was hesitant on #1 cost and #2 sizing. I ended up getting them for just over $100 (thanks Zappos!) so that solved the cost issue. When I got them and tried them on they were spot on with size!So here's the rundown, I run about 5' 10"ish, 185 lbs, slim to athletic build with a waist size in jeans about 33-34". This equaled a size 50 for me according to Fjallraven's sizing chart. They are a perfect fit!! The 32" inseam is not too long and the waist is true to size (I'm probably close to a 34 right now and they "just" fit) if I gain weight me and these pants are going to have issues.A 52" would've definitely gave me a tad more room but the goal is to not have an excuse to be a fat ass lol. Now, I would say the fit in these is similar to a slim jean. If you are carrying extra mass in your thighs or butt, you are going to have issues with fit. I've found that European sizing tends to run slim. These pants will fit as described in a person with a slim to athletic build. Also, I would classify the material as a thin canvas type feel. Yes, they are extremely well made and feel very durable. These are 3 season pants. They are not going to offer much warmth in winter.Overall, I LOVE them! I'm already thinking of getting another pair once I get the chance to test these a bit more. Great pants and great fit.

I purchased the Vidda Pro trousers in anticipation of a future trip to the Faroe Islands/Iceland/Greenland. I was looking for hard-wearing, windproof, waterproof pants. I am 5-11' 185 pounds with a 34" inseam. The 52 EUR Regular fit perfectly. I have tried them out in wet weather. As described in the ad, the pants are water repellent but not waterproof. Water will bead up on the surface but it will sink through when kneeling in wet foliage. I have not yet tried to add wax as these pants are old-school wax cloths. The wax should help make them more water repellent. I have not yet had an opportunity to hike in them. They seem stiff out of the box. They loosened up a bit after I wore them to work a couple of times.I think they could bind on the knees and lower legs in warm or hot weather, but that is just my guess at this point. The pants do not have rear pockets. I miss that feature, but the front pockets are large and can hold a lot of stuff. There is also an option to purchase knee pads that can be inserted in between the double layer of fabric over the knees. At least that is my understanding. I am in interested in this feature as I intend to be spending a lot of time on my trip photographing wildlife. Overall, I am very pleased with these pants. I look forward to putting them to the real test on my future trip.

Excellent trousers. Reasonably lightweight yet not thin. Really robust material and breathable with waterproof bottom and knee panelling. Material is also slightly stretchy which makes for a lot more comfort over competitors who trade ruggedness for lack of stretch.Pockets positioned perfectly around any phage and harnesses I wear and very cleverly shifted forward around the thigh. A little touch which makes SUCH a big difference for ease of accessibility. There are plenty of pockets of varying sizes without any being too large that they’re cumbersome. Length is perfect - regular comes with extra length to come well over your boot and lace hooks are brass so won’t rust. Further, there is still diffident length to accommodate squatting without any pull.I am personally not a fan of waterproof trousers, I haven’t needed them and just get too hot in them. These trousers are Greenland Wax compatible so it’s nice to have the option of making them waterproof if needed, at the sacrifice of breathability. Rub it on, wash it off in a normal 40 degree wash. But in my experience thus far, they are sufficiently breathable to quickly dry off and don’t hold much water making them comfortable for very wet walks.Sizing runs small - I went for a 52 (36”) when I’m usually a 50 (34”)

I have only one dislike - the metal "button" that closes the waist. When it is snug, the button is twisted to the side and that makes one side of the portion of the button that attaches to the pants angle into my waist. Better with a sewn on button. That said, yes the pants are super tough. More pockets than I can use, but having no back pockets takes getting used to. They have fixed the previously reported problem of the lace hook at the bottom of each trouser leg grabbing the occasional toenail when pulling the trousers on by reversing the hook AND recessing it into a little hidden pouch. The material does pick up some cat hair, but it wipes off easily. I have never waxed pants. As these pants come out of the package, most water beads up and runs off.I am 6 foot tall, weigh 208 with a moderate belly. I wear 36x32 Levi jeans (which are a bit tight). The Vidda Pro 54mm Regular fits me very nicely. I was surprised that the pant legs may be an inch longer than needed, since one youtu.be reviewer about my height/weight said he preferred the Long length. I also have a pair of Barents 52mm which are TOO SMALL in the waist for me to comfortably wear without unbuttoning the metal waist button and relying on the belt. When I test while riding my bicycle, I will update.

5 Star product, but differing leg sizes sent. The trousers are nice, feel very good quality (as I've always found with Fjallraven) they fit well around the wast. I'm a 30" and ordered the EU 46, they are not too tight or too slack, and I didn't need a belt. Also they are a modern fit, being not super skinny or 80's baggy, a happy medium that allows plenty of movement while walking. I'm a 30" regular and I found those fitted me perfectly on the trousers labeled 46EU Regular US 30-31" MI did however order 5 pairs of Fjallraven trousers at the same time, all sold and supplied by Amazon EU themselves. Some just in different colours and some different styles.I got a mixed bag of regular and long leg lengths despite A: not being able to choose a length and B: the actual leg length isn't stated in the description. So i don't know if I ordered these again would I just get a random leg length from a box or if they only have regular in this style. So lucky these are the ones i liked and decided to keep.I am a 30" regular and I found these fitted me perfectly on the trousers that were labeled 46EU Regular US 30-31" M

Great trousers, very hard wearing. I wear them for hunting and shooting in the UK. Personally I don’t think they are great for hillwalking or mountaineering - for that get some montane, rab, or even craghopper trousers. However for day to day stuff you’ll struggle to find a traditional hardwearing pair of trousers for ‘everything else’.My teo bug bears with them is that the waist and has no elasticity which is fine if you are exactly the right size, but for most people who are between waist sizes you have to use a belt and deal with a slack waistband. In this day and age they could improve this design. Also there is a great deal of bagginess in the leg from mid thigh all the way down to mid calf. It’s because they are designed for movement and I’ve had other Nordic style trousers designed in this way (long legs, baggy knees), but for the average UK hill walker / stalker they are not ideal. However we have a local seamstress where I live who alters fjallraven trousers for the military so fortunate to can have mine altered. That’s another benefit of traditional cotton design.

The pants are very comfortable and has useful features I like. My legs are a tad shorter than regular size but utilizing the built in hook and the three position tightening system helps out for that little bit of extra length that is present. One thing I did notice right away was wearing these pants without shoes is not very comfortable because I tend to step on the buttons at the bottom of the pants. It is an easy fix with a quick 1 inch roll but I think that is noteworthy because I go barefoot often and I have to take that extra step with these pants to roll them unlike other pants I usually wear.Over all they are great pants and I really enjoy wearing them every chance I get.Yes they are expensive but if I can wear them 150 times they paid themselves off. I consider that justification for the price. I am sure these pants will last longer then that and that is all the better. So that being said if you like rugged, pratical, breathable, and sharp looking outdoor/everyday pants go for it. I think you will be happy with your purchase.

Due to the Euro sizing I knew to go up a size as in I'm a 36 so I got the 37.5 which corresponds to the size 54 and they fit like my Carhartt 36's. The inseam is long for me so had to be taken up which was no problem just be aware.I have been wearing Carhartt Flex Steel cargos and they are slightly more fitted than the Vidda Pro. The Vidda Pros are comfortable but the legs are a looser fit than I normally wear. I did not realize there were no hip pockets which is unusual. The other pockets will suffice I suppose. Recently the weather has been freezing at night and 40's in the daytime and maybe this model is meant to be lighter weight because I sure can feel the difference from the Carhartts. Will probably be fine for hiking or canoeing though. We will see. I couldn't give it 5 stars though I'm not seeing the value of the cost of these yet.

Now I know what all the hype is about these pants! The material is high quality and all stitching is first rate with no loose threads. I’ve been using them for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and winter camping. The material sheds snow and is very breathable. The adjustable ankle closure is perfect for sealing out the snow and has a hook on the front of the leg opening to hook onto boots like a gator. The pockets are perfectly placed and large enough to hold a multitude of items. I have not waxed them as they come with a light coating of wax already, however, if you wanted more weather protection you can add a thicker coating. I’ve been wearing mine in temps between -5 and 30F with long underwear and it’s perfect. They are worth the high price for a quality piece of gear.
