These are superb quality trousers whose waxed cotton material sheds water easily and saves all the bother of putting on sweaty overtrousers unless the rain becomes torrential. They are also pretty windproof and the legs are tight enough to help keep breezes too.Why only four stars? The dropped waist can be uncomfortable after wearing a long time, especially if you have a heavy duty belt. Silly - these are not a fashion item. A high waist would be great - as well as warmer. The axe pocket on the left leg has a bottom opening, which reduces its versatility. I'm not sure I'd trust it with anything else important but it's too narrow to be useful for much else - like a solid torch. The pockets are lacking in versatility generally and the axe pocket throws the left hand ones forward, as if the whole is designed for a right handed person. I normally wear 5.11s and have maybe become too used to them but their pocket arrangement is perfect as far as I'm concerned. These pockets are either too narrow or too deep - or the legs too tight - to swallow things in line with their potential capacity. I miss the 5.11 hip pockets that can take a map, water bottle or even a mini iPad when I'm flying. The top two side pockets are about the best but aren't deep enough to really feel secure and have no fastenings. The right handed leg pocket is big enough for a map and has a smaller pocket inside that could take a compass. But carrying a map there can be uncomfortable and the compass does not feel secure either. The left leg pocket is backed by another very large one but that compromises both. If you fill one, say with a hat and scarf, you reduce capacity in the other. I almost need a manual to know what the designers were thinking the pockets might be useful for, as they don't work for me yet. Maybe some more miles will see me find a way.I bought the branded knee pads and they are ridiculously wide - you feel like you're wearing clown trousers. The fact the opening is at the bottom for these means narrower ones will fall out - another odd design choice. So some definite room for improvement but still a great pair of pants that will be my winter go-tos for I suspect many years to come given the quality of material and workmanship. I'll just carry a belt pouch for the bits that don't fit nicely in any of the pockets. One last annoyance. The three leg pockets have solid poppers but the waist has a "normal" button and buttonhole. Why not a popper as well to be consistent? One day I suspect I'll try to pop it and just pull it off.

I purchased these trousers as they seemed to be what a great deal of the Bushcraft community appeared to be wearing and value as part of the uniform. This review is somewhat unfair on the item as I have a pair of Harkilla pro shooter trousers which are simply in my opinion the best field trousers I have ever owned. The Barents trousers however come a close second for in my estimation three season use. They are very lightweight and superbly equipped with practical and well designed pockets. You will love this feature as much as I did.Great well located reinforced knee area and seat. I have treated the trousers with two coats of Greenland wax which has made them shower proof, but definatly not rain proof. However they dry very quickly and keep you tolerably comfortable in short rain bursts. The wax gives them a heavier, more abrasion resistant, and pleasant tactile feel. Can't give the trousers five stars as this would be unfair to the competitively priced item above but that said I do like them for the purpose of hiking (spring, summer and autumn), for which they are perfect.

These pants came in a raw length (think 36-38" inseam) which is a major factor for me buying them. I hemmed them myself at approximately a 34" length. I am 6'0" and 160lbs and a 32' inseam rides up and over the tongue of my hiking boots when I am hiking. This allows dirt and rocks to get into the boots. A 30x34" pant with all the features these pants provide are impossible to find. All the pockets are in the right spots. They hold all of my EDC pocket litter and don't dig into my legs anywhere. I stopped using butt pockets about 3 years ago and never looked back. These fit perfectly even without a belt and, due to the articulation in the knees and butt, fit like a glove without any pulling at the crotch with high leg movement.I got these on a flash sale for $70 and will be keeping my eye out for more. $150 is too expensive for me, but I'll be watching to see how long they last. If I get more than a year or two out of them of hard use, then the price will be worth it.I have worn them in the high 70s for temps with no ill effects. They don't feel hot.

These are my favourite outdoor trouser. They look and fit great. They're very rugged. Perform well in the rain. They can be waxed or sprayed for better performance. They're also endorsed by Woodlore, the website run by the bushcraft expert Ray Mears.I would consider these to be genuine bushcraft kit, a level above your typical outdoor trouser in terms of style, longevity, comfort and ability to handle bad weather.Having said that, I was very displeased with my order. I was sent grey instead of grey/dark-grey. So the trousers did not have the knee pad affect shown in the photo. Also, I ordered '50' but was sent '50-long' which is miles too long for me. While I did not order 'long'and was surprised to receive it, just be aware that I'm 6-3 [34-34] and the 'long' wraps almost to the ball of my foot. Disappointed, always difficult buying Fjällräven kit due to the poor availability...

I purchased a pair of these (in a different colour) previously. The problem is that once you start wearing them it's very difficult to wear anything else! I wear them walking/hiking, working, lounging, shopping...basically all the time they're not being washed. They're extremely hard-wearing, comfortable, and they look great too IMO.Eventually I thought to myself "Crikey, I'd better get another pair or people will think I don't change my clothes!"These are my second pair, and I expect them to be exactly the same as the first, durability wise. The only downside is that unless you're a giant you're probably going to have to take 3-4 inches off the leg length,or if you can't maybe find someone helpful who can.Not a fault because they're purposely made so they fit all heights. Other than that they're perfect, and well worth the outlay.

I can safely say that after wearing these trousers for some time, they are the best most hard wearing and comfortable trousers I have ever owned. I've worn them in the rain and the wind and was neither cold nor wet. I've dragged them through thorn bushes and mud and there are no holes. They maintain their shape and fit perfectly, and adding the Greenland wax only makes them more durable (If that is possible). These trousers are as stylish as they are bombproof and I will certainly be saving up for another pair. They fit perfectly however I've had to take the leg up somewhat as they are very long. but this is not a problem as it allows you to find that perfect length. This is the first product I have purchased from Fjallraven but I am sure it wont be the last.

As one reviewer noted, Fjallraven trousers are made for tall men...vikings I'd imagine. Even after adjusting the length the knee reinforcements sit slightly below the knee. I had the trouser virtually reconstructed to fit my smallish frame and now...they are absolutely amazing!!!Fantastic quality and built to last. There are pockets for just about everything! The pants are light but really tough and they dry quick too. I consider myself lucky to have been able to buy a pair of these because they have been selling very fast especially in my size (it always seems that way, doesn't it?).These are not cheap pant but once you own a pair you'll understand why. They smack of quality.Hiking's got a brand new swag.

Firstly like other reviewers I expected these pants to be long in the leg. The pants are delivered unhemmed and they do have the cotton delivered with them to be used on the hemming. If they do fit you in the leg then you must be 6 feet six. I did know this before purchasing and having already seen the quality of these from friends I went ahead and bought a pair. These are excellent pants with quirky pockets and knee patches. They feel nice to wear they look smart but still have that rugged outdoor look too. I think also they will last as they have a tough feel about them. They are delivered from Germany but still arrive inside 2-3 days. I would recommend these.

I'm 6'4 and and need a minimum 34 inside leg for trousers, I swear by these trousers for the leg length. They always come with 'raw' length which means you can turn up them to suit if you don't need quite such a long leg. They're extremely well made, they've been comfortable to wear while hiking and also doing other activities like climbing, gardening, and DIY jobs.At full price they are quite expensive but well worth the money for the quality, do have a lookout for amazon's warehouse deals though, I have 3 pairs now and all have been between £70-80 rather than the 100+ they usually are.

Extremely well designed and fairly well constructed. All the pockets are in the right place. Very comfortable to walk and work in. However the knee pad pocket stitching has failed in two places, the adjusted hems have disintegrated aling the crease and one belt loop has been severed by friction from my rucksack. The pre-bent knees look daft but are functional at least. The waist sizing is highly unpredictable and impossible to adjust without a belt. A good product but room for improvement at this price.

G1000 advertised as very durable is a bit overrated. It worn through on the pocket where I carry my wallet (deep pocket on left thigh). This happened after a month of use (two trips)... i was expecting the trousers will last for years but at this pace I now hope I'll still have them next year. Following this, I can't really imagine putting the knee pads in and actually crawling in these trousers for any time as I'm pretty sure they will not take it for long.Apart from that, very comfy and practical.

Love these trousers i am an outdoor person, spend a lot of the time out shooting in the wintertime. These fit very well and are comfortable, more the enough pockets to put things in. And you know you're going to be dry when wearing these. Highly recommend these. I stick with just the regular, i am 6ft 2in tall and they fit me just fine. But please be careful of the waist size you must make sure you order the right ones. As that is the only problem with these is very easy to order the wrong size.

26.9.2017

Overall fit is "as expected". However, as other reviews also noted, the location of the knee bend sewn into the pant leg is just a little too low, even when kneeling. Pants do not come hemmed, which is okay, as long as you know that ahead of time, which I did. They are VERY nice. I have worn them in the field a few times now, have washed them in the washing machine, and they look and feel very great. That is a relief considering how expensive they are! These are my new favorites.

15.11.2015

I've heard a lot of talk about these pants and ordered just to see them in person and intended on returning them. But...I just couldn't, I'm 6'5" @205 lbs. Finding pants that work, fit & give where you want them to, are too hard to find. The great thing is they come extra long so you can hem them to fit. And after all that fit, form & function, they look good...and who needs a back wallet pocket in the woods any way. God bless our Veterans!!!!

6.6.2015

Amazing trousers light weight very warm and tough deserves the 5 star rating with an A+.They are expensive but will last years, very good quality. 56 is a 38 -39" I needed to have them tailored to my leg lengh as the raw length is very long. They have very good quality poppers on the pockets YKK zippers a mesh pocket in one of the cargo pockets that fits an iphone perfectly. They will also take knee pads under the cordura knees.
