I like Craghoppers gear as a brand and these are good, functional trousers if you're out hiking and I have several pairs as my go to outdoor trousersThe material is thin and lightweight.Despite this, they are remarkably tough. I’ve taken them wild camping in Wales and Scotland, scrambling and sliding down rocks and I’ve never had a tearIn the great British summer (wind and rain), they’re remarkably warm and windproof. They also dry quickly and easily. Having got soaked up on a wet Snowden, they dried out fast once out of the rain thanks to the body heat generate by walkingTaking the bottoms off (or putting them back on) is easy and takes seconds by a simple zipper motion.I tend to wear them as shorts and on hikes I roll up the bottoms (they roll up about the size of a pair of work socks) and have them in my jacket pocket or backpack, just in case the weather at higher levels isn’t so pleasant. There are several pockets. The most useful for me is the one on the side of the leg which can just fit a waterproof OS map for ease of access (but it is a pretty tight squeeze). There are also four “hand” pockets, two with zips that are great for things you don’t want to drop on the hike (eg. car keys or phone). To be picky, having these as waterproof zip up pockets would be perfect, but I simply put the item(s) into a plastic bag or waterproof pouch. The belt they come with is comfy enough and doesn’t have to removed when you put it in the washing machine so less likely to misplace and lose it. Again being picky, having a slimmer clip would be nice if you want to attach anything to the belt (eg. Leatherman or small torch) and having the strap a little wider would make it more comfortable. My only gripe is that these are working/hiking trousers. They are baggy…very baggy. Unless you have legs like tree trunks the legs can billow around you and they really don’t look very stylish out and about. Despite this you would still need to take off your walking boots to put on/remove the lower legs. If the legs were slimmer I’d wear them much more oftenIn summary, if you need a good value, versatile pair of hiking (or outdoor) trousers, these are great

I have tried a number of different designs of walking trousers over the years but always keep coming back to the Kiwi Classic because they are soooooo comfortable and practical. That said, its not a 5-star review because there are pro’s and con’s.On the down side - I have two gripes:They claim to be water repellent but that is questionable. Maybe if you get lightly splashed you can quickly shake the water off and it won’t soak in, but take a walk through some long wet grass or walk in the rain and they absorb like a standard cotton trouser. So if you are looking to stay dry on a hillside, you will need an over trouser.Don’t mistake water repellent for showerproof – they aren’t.Unless I am the unluckiest shopper ever - Craghoppers seem to have a quality control issue. There is a wild variation in sizing that probably relates to which factory or which machine operator made each pair. I always order the same size and there seems to be no consistency in hip width, crutch length and the abdominal cut. Some come up really baggy and others fit like they are tailored for me. The only consistent feature appears to be leg length. So you may need to try on several pairs before you get a pair that suits you.On the plus side: Whilst I may be unimpressed with the water repellent claims, the claimed Stain Resistance does seem fair, because they wash up like new every single time. Really durable trousers that hold their colour well, with little in the way of fading or bleached seams/hems. Loads of pockets with good quality zips, nice iPhone 6 sized elasticated pocket inside the main thigh pocket. Good comfortable waist /belt line and really good reliable one-touch release belts included. They just feel really well made.

I'm a fan of these trousers and am now on at least my second pair. I use them when visiting hot climates as they are very light and breathable, and being so light, they are quick to wash and dry. I would not recommend them in cold weather, as they give no protection from cold winds. They have lots of pockets, making them useful for travellers who need to carry lots of gear - passport, wallet, camera, pen, notebook, keys. I can carry all of that and more, and the zips mean that I'm not afraid of losing my passport. After owning them for a year I even discovered another pocket that I didn't know existed - on the outside of the map pocket there's a smaller one with a concealed zip.The all-plastic belt is a nice touch, as you don't need to take it off when passing through airport metal detectors. One tip: don't bother with the zip-off version of these trousers. The zips rub against your legs and soon become annoying. If you need shorts, buy a cheap pair or just roll up the legs of your Craghoppers. One drawback: the large pocket on the right thigh, although very useful with its huge capacity, does tend to sag when you sit down and can end up underneath your leg. I don't know how they could redesign it to stop this happening - maybe move it a bit towards the front? Another weakness is that the velcro on the flap of the large pocket doesn't last very long - mine is now turning into useless fluff - but at least it's easy to sew a new piece on.I shall definitely be buying another pair when these wear out.

Lightweight and water resistant (drips run down them as if on the surface of an apple), toughened but not rough, and forever keeping my legs at the correct temperature regardless of the weather or how much exercise I perform, this product ticks the comfort and practicality boxes with ease. The double thigh pockets are well designed with a zipped pocked half an inch below an open pocket on either side for convenience purposes, and with a sizable Velcro leg pocket on the lower right thigh and a quick-release belt, the trousers are all-round practical outdoor attire. If bought to wear with a pair of walking boots,I personally cannot stress enough that buying a longer pair is definitely worth it for those regular occasions when you stretch out or crouch down and don't wish to expose your lower legs. The relatively narrow bottoms of the trousers will never slide past the base of the boots making them a perfect combination.Quick drying, resistant to picking up smells due to the waxed surface and quite a challenge to permanently get dirty, assuming you don't burn a hole through them with a camp fire or slice them with a sharp knife (a blunt blade would likely slide off the surface), these trousers should last months unwashed in the rough. One of the best walking trousers on the market, and very reasonably priced, buy a pair which fit and match your colour preference and you simply can't go wrong.

Just received my new pair of Craghoppers Classic Kiwi Mens Walking Trousers. My initial reaction is - yeah good trousers! The fit is comfortable - certainly not relaxed fit but also not tight. I wouldn't want them any tighter, either on the waist or round the legs. The leg length (Short) is what I expected. The colour (Bark) is quite dark but I like it. Seems practical for hiking over damp hills!I can't report on the solar or water resistant properties - have only worn them around the house!I guess my main niggle is the pockets. I don't find back pockets much use - so strike two of the zippered pockets. The front pockets are barely adequate - just too shallow. However the zippered front pockets will keep my wallet and keys safe - if I remember to zip them up.That leaves the cargo pocket. The mobile holder will fit either my old candy bar phone or my smart phone (HTC Desire)- so that's good. However the main cargo pocket is claimed to hold an OS map - and this is true, just, so long as it is an OS Landranger (1:50,000) size or smaller. There is no way that you can fit the OS Explorer (1:25,000) sized map and still close the pocket flap. This is a real irritation. If the flap won't close then the map is going to get soggy. Stupid! The 1:25,000 Explorer is my clear favorite hiking map.Summary: nice trousers shame about the pockets. I want to give them 3.5 stars!

Great fit for me, light and should be good for walking without any obvious seams or shaping that would get in the way or rub while walking. The hand pockets are perhaps a little shallow but the map pocket is large enough. Great for the price and looking forward to wearing them out!EDIT - They came back from an expedition. I was really pleased with them. I had not realised the back pockets were zipped and there are two sets of hand pockets - there are zipped pockets behind the open ones which was a pleasant surprise as I felt confident I wouldn't lose my wallet or keys. I am usually a 32 reg but I think I may have preferred a long size.I found that sometimes the trousers wouldnt sit exactly where I wanted them to and on one day my thighs did get chafed by the crotch seam somewhat. I will have to investigate why that was but would definitely recommend these trousers for the price, quality and general comfort, and I am thinking about buying another pair already. One last thing I almost forgot - They come with a belt that I thought was a bit cheap at first but in fact I realised as the clasp is plastic it would have prevented me having to remove my belt when going through customs as I have to do with all my other belts, so I recommend keeping it if you are tired of doing that when traveling too.

Had quite a few Craghopper Kiwi trousers over the years, both normal and zipped, as I like them as well as any.Compared with the older ones, the current trousers are perhaps subject to a few cost-cutting measures, such as smaller pockets, and different belt fastener (but at least its now easier to get the belt through the belt retention tabs for removal without taking the buckle off the belt).Perhaps it would be useful for a map pocket on the left leg, as well as the right leg, but none of the previous Kiwi's have had this either, so nothing lost here from older versions - would prefer the bigger pockets from the older Kiwi's though, as things can fall out whilst seated or crouched down (but both sides still have the zipped pocket behind the open one,so you can mitigate this).I like the Bark colour, the fit is good for me, and (a bit early to say for these newer ones) the older Kiwi's that I've had are hard-wearing and durable and I expect the newer ones to be similar in their longevity (probably a bit more robust than they first appear) - activities include walking and scrambling in the Lake District and whilst out doing photography.Overall, I'd recommend these - I think they represent very good value for money, and I've already ordered another pair, so they do it for me.

Got the dark moss 29inch length version of these. They are about 3 inches longer than 29 inches so I ended up tucking them up inside some elastic round my ankles, army style.Pockets are quite small, so I felt more comfortable putting my wallet in the zip side pocket for safety. Not sure what other reviewers who say the zips pop open are putting in their pockets, the zips were fine!Trousers a little bit on the baggy side, which is a good thing for walking though if I was buying again I would get a waist size smaller to see if that was less baggy (and with the elastic waist I think it wold be fine)Also, on the walk were some deep puddles with snow, and the trousers soaked through on the first dipping,so definitely not waterproof, although disclaimer I did give them a short 30 minute 40 degree wash (using Fairy tabs, not biological) and so that might have had an impact. They handled wind okay though, and although there was snow at the top of the mountain and my upperhalf was a bit cold, my legs were fine.Overall I am happy with these as they did not cost much, look smart, are comfy. A little disappointed on the leg length and lack of waterproofing but that may have been my fault for giving them a (short 40 degree using non bio tabs) wash.

A classic men's 'activity trouser'. They last well and when new, may be acceptable on the smarter end of 'casual'.Good points:-The sizing L/long is at least a 34" inside leg, possibly a little more. They don't look silly on a tall chap with long legs;Windproof;Mobile telephone pocket internal to the the thigh pocket on the right leg;Zipped pockets available;Vaguely shower proof when new;Reinforced leg cuff to protect against wear; When the 'legs' are unzipped, the resulting shorts are a sensible (suitably modest) length. Not so good points:-The belt is a bit naff; There is an outer pocket on the right thigh cargo pocket. I owned a couple of pairs of these trousers for many years before realising that this pocket existed (I thought it was a bizarre pleat.)The zip for this pocket is at the back, so when one is sitting down with the pocket fastened, the contents can fall out. A small detail not fully thought out...Velcro closure on the thigh pocket is 'adequate', but when the thigh is raised above the horizontal, smaller items *may* fall out.Excellent trousers for gentle outdoor activities; may be considered a little lacking for technical applications.

read many reviews about these being one size too big etc. Luckily I ignored them and ordered my own size. Perfect fit! Very happy with fit, quality, packaging and overall product. However; as others have said 2 major gripes here - the belt is absolute rubbish and drags down the quality of the trouser big time and more importantly why why why why are the pockets so shallow that you can hardly fit your hand into them? Were the producers saving on 2 inches of cloth? It's a joke that you can't even keep a key in the side pockets without it dropping out. Having said that though the mid pocket on the right leg is superb and comfortably holds a mobile plus more.I used my pair 24 hours after they arrived on a 50km marathon where it rained all day.The trousers kept me as dry as ducks feathers and protected me from wind and chills. Yet they were airy and did not overheat me or steam up on runs and climbs and the fit was perfect with no chaffing or rubbing anywhere.I give them the 4 stars only because of the mean pocket sizes. If they increase the pocket size by 100% I would rate these a 6 star buy and the price I got them even better.

I have been wearing Craghopper Kiwi trousers for many years now, and my original pair are still smart enough for everyday wear. These trousers keep up that excellent tradition of good quality materials and manufacture. There is the addition of an elasticated mobile phone pocket inside the cargo leg pocket, a handy feature. As before these trousers have many pockets, some with zips. These are handy for carrying credit cards, wallet, and all the other items required in summer when you don't have a jacket on ! The trousers also come with a webbing belt. I find that the sizing of these trousers has always been on the large side, so order a waist size below normal.A good confidence booster !I have seen some reviews criticizing these trousers, but as far as I can see there is no drop in quality, Craghoppers also sell 'Basecamp' trousers, which although looking similar, are lower in quality, thinner,& do not have the same amount of pockets and features, perhaps some reviewers have bought these trousers instead of the Kiwi version ?I have a few pairs of these trousers and will continue to buy them, although they never seem to wear out !

16th of July 2016.My new black Kiwi Zip-offs arrived today.First impressions are pretty good soI've order another pair.Craghopperes seemed to have responded to negative feedback about their re-designs of these trousers. The pockets all have similar internal dimensions to my old pairs of Kiwi from almost a decade ago.The elasticated pocket inside the leg pocket is actually bigger that before and it now accommodates my iPhone6s Plus! This new buckle is a return to the type where you have to squeeze from both the top and bottom, and the belt fabric itself is now much longer than before. The plastic buckle parts now slide out of the waist loops much easier than before,so that's all good if you want to hang things on your belt. The removable legs no longer have the left and right labels. The zip seemed a little less well made than my old pairs and I had trouble getting the zip started.I only wish that the point where you have to start zipping up the trousers wasn't so far round to the side of the leg, 30-45 degrees further round to the front would be great and shouldn't compromise the look too much?

I bought my first pair of Kiwis about 5 years ago and now Kiwis are the only trousers I wear. This is the fifth pair I've bought, and I've just invested in the fleece lined version for winter. That first pair is still in regular use as my 'round the house' trousers. The only problem I've had with them is that the zips on a couple of pairs failed after a year or so. The stitching on one pocket zip also started to undo after a year or so. The material on current trousers is not quite as thick as on that first pair, but I still think they are really comfy to wear.I really like the zipped inner hip pockets that allow me to 'seal in' my keys and wallet. I love that I don't have to worry about losing them or having them lifted. The cargo pocket is big enough for an Ordnance Survey map. Cargo pant pockets are generally too small these days, but this one is big enough. I just wish they had one on each leg. The opening on the back pockets is a bit tight to get my hand in, but I can manage to extract loose change, so it's ok.If comfort, especially outdoors, is important, then these are worth a try.

Buying clothes on the Internet? What ever next?Actually, I had been looking for a pair of these trousers, in this colour for quite a long time. I already know my size and would gladly have purchased the first pair I could find in the shops. Could I find them in this colour and size? Bit of a leading question.I like the fact that Craghoppers have made this a classic design that they don't mess with. Other branded outdoor clothing manufacturers change materials and change designs on a yearly basis. One year you might find the perfect pair of trousers but the next year they don't exist and the new design isn't quite right and doesn't quite fit. Frustrating. When I found them on Amazon I took a chance that all would be well, and it was. Exactly as described. These Kiwis are a quality product, both in material and cut. Just for your information if you are considering these, the regular leg size is quite generous, only buy the Long if you have really really long legs. The other bonus is that even with offers and discount cards the best prices are still here on Amazon.

I have purchased these, to replace 3 pairs that I've had for many years, after using them many times in the lake district, a number of country walks around the Midlands, & now, with constant trips to my local nature reserve & canal. Contrary to some recent reviews, I still think that the quality of the current version is as good as ever, with plenty of room around the waist & thighs. The numerous pockets (many sturdy zips ) are certainly deep enough for me. I have always found them to dry out quickly, after walking in showery weather. I also have 3 pairs of the 'lined' version, for using on very cold days (again, no issue with quality). I purchased a 34" short, & contrary to some reviews,I find the belt is the right length - the tension tended to slip on my previous versions, but after using a pair for the first time today, it stayed put, so an improvement there, I feel. So, all in all, my initial reservations, after reading some of the reviews, have been laid to rest, & these are still fantastic value for money.
