I ordered two of these for field work in the middle east. The trip was six weeks long and weather conditions ranged from arid desert to humid forest. The durability of the shirts was more than good enough to handle these conditions-- they were thick enough to be both comfortable and to stave off most brush, some of which included gnarly thorns. The venting technology kept me cool in direct sunlight, as if I was standing in the shade (rather, as close to that as I could get, all things considered). Light colored long sleeves are the best defense against the sun and this shirt delivered on all counts.SIZING: I'm a large medium, approaching large, and the medium fit was perfect-- a little loose and breathable.Keep in mind that these shirts are not slim fit. They're going hang a bit. These are shirts with a practical focus, not necessarily style.CONS: Obviously, these shirts are optimal in open-air, sunny conditions. When in enclosed spaces (e.g. hot vans, humid caves) the shirt can become an oven. Additionally, I felt the collars could be stiffer. I would often pop the collar to maximize sun protection but they would fall within ten to 20 minutes of hiking. In the future I may hold the collars up with some kind of string or necklace.I'd recommend these shirts for most field work. In conjunction with a large-brimmed hat and field pants, this shirt completes a very good uniform against the sun. The shirt allows complete freedom of movement, can take a lot of punishment, and will keep you cool. A good buy.

LOOK BELOW FOR UPDATE:The shirt itself looks good and fits well, but the button holes are done appallingly. There are loose threads running longitudinally to the holes that the button gets caught in (see photo). This makes undoing the shirt take AGES! And worst of all, it's not just one hole. It's nearly all of them!Does anyone know if there is a quick fix to this? Are all Columbia shirts affected or was I just unlucky? I really like this shirt, but the buttons make it really impractical.UPDATE: The faulty shirt was swiftly replaced, and the new one is amazing. I've been using two of these shirts for long days of outdoor work in a hot country, and they're doing their job. They keep you cool, protect you from the sun (The collars fold up for even more sun cover) and they're pretty hard to permanently stain. My 2/5 review jumps to 5/5.

I'm pleased with the look, feel, fit and quality of this shirt. It's a nice deep grey colour and looks good with the sleeves either down or rolled half way up. The feel of the fabric is very silky and smooth due to it being made of nylon, and in wear it is light and breathable which makes it great for low to medium activity such as walking. It is a fairly roomy fit for a medium size, and it's well made with good stitching and useful tabs to keep the sleeves in position when rolled. Overall this is a great way to look smart even when you're being active, and also doubles as a going-out shirt.

Using the sizing chart, I ordered the large. My size is normally XL, so I didn't know what to expect. I was thinking I'd probably find it tight in the gut.Turns out it was tight across the chest right under the arms. Everything else fit me just fine. If there was another inch or so in the chest, this would have been absolutely perfect! The problem is that the XL size is significantly larger everywhere else. That said, I love the material. The white is thin, but not transparent. The synthetic material feels good.

Until now, we used a fixed rotation type pole, but it took time to extend and it was inconvenient, so we bought a new one here. It can be extended immediately when you want to use it with Black Diamond's patented flick lock system, and it is very convenient because it folds instantly. The fixing screw of the flick lock seems to be loosely tightened at the time of shipment from the factory (from Black Diamond HP). It is recommended that you re-tighten the fixed adjustment screw before using it

Well made and well priced. These is an ideal shirt for walking in humid climates. The material is breathable with wicking properties and has vents across the upper back between the shoulders to allow for flow of air as well. The pockets at the front are also a good practical size.My only gripe is I did find the buttons a bit tricky, the holes felt a little on the small size and it was a little struggle to get the shirt buttoned up.

Order a size down from what you normally wear - and even then you may desire it to be more trim fitting. That said, I'm in love with this style of shirt. It looks a million times better than their other models, yet still lets you take advantage of their hot-weather shirt. I wish it could be worn with a suit jacket, that's how cool their fabric is in the hot and humid south. I wear it kayaking, or just while I'm out and about.

Overall this is a good shirt. I have a bit of a barrel chest and find the Columbia shirts (Bahama, Tamiami, Bonehead) to fit a bit tight in the chest. This shirt has a bit more room in the chest and has a nicer profile then the above shirts I have. The only issue I found was after the 1st wash and wear the stitching in one of the arms unraveled, costing another $10 to have my tailor fix. Hopefully it was a one-off

My wife and I hike often. At least once a month we try a new trail (7-10 miles) around the LA area. Believe it or not, we have some amazing trails in LA - not just workout trails to be "seen" on. I have 3 sets of these shirts as well as Columbia pants. Fit is great. Look is great. Fits true to size. If you are a large, get a large. These are durable, light weight, dry easily. Love.

Shirt is good quality, feels well made. I can tell this has been made for purpose. Should keep you cool in warm climates and absorb any sweating. Two top pockets with velcro fastening, fold up sun protector collar at the back. Button fastening on the arms to hold the rolled up sleeves in place. This is a great summer shirt for activities or adventures. Comfortable to wear.

This is a great looking shirt, with "normal" looking front pockets. I have tried a number of other non-cotton shirts made for outdoor use and / or traveling, and they have had awfully large, cumbersome (read ugly) pockets that distract from the appearance of the shirts. Also, I find these shirts ( I have 5 or 6 of them in various colors) have a very soft feel to them.

It made it through about 2500 miles of backpacking and over 150 day and then a button fell off. There are a few frays where a single thread is hanging out. I also got stuck on some cacti or briers and ripped a hole about the side of a screw head. Other than those issues it has held up great I might have went with a darker color that didn't show dirt as well.

These are good shirts, having already owning one I knew what to expect when I bought this, they are extremely light to wear, meant for warm conditions, but smart enough to wear anywhere. The long sleeve version has buttons and a loop that you roll around the sleeve if you roll it up on hot days. The material has a sun protection factor of +40 - C or F??!

Phenomenal shirts at phenomenal price. Many reviews kept saying to buy a size smaller than you normally would so I got a medium instead of a large. ( 5'11/200bl) But I have a larger build than most, and the shirts were fairly snug on my arms. I tried the large and it looks much better. Still has an athletic appearance without being too snug in the arms.

As a 100% polyester product I was a little apprehensive about the quality of this, and those fears weren't allayed upon opening; first impressions? Cheap. However, it's a surprisingly comfortable, breathable, and far more fitted (in a standard fit way) shirt than expected. It's actually a pretty good looking and flattering shirt to wear.Recommended
