One thing to be said about these approach shoes is they are very durable. I've had less durable approach shoes that I have considered 5-stars. These are great quality. The midsole is stiffer than I am used to, but they are still new - they may loosen over time. The outsole is quite sticky as you would expect from an approach shoe. What I like about the outsole is how the lugs are quite beefy, but the areas were wear is usually a concern (ball of forefoot and heel) it is built up around the lugs so as to appear flat. This is to slow wear in these areas. The ballistic mesh is nice and really contributes to the comfort. The exoskeleton adds stability and my foot stays put, which is also nice.I'm just concerned about catching one of them on some rocks and breaking them. The heel counters are quite pronounced which I'm not particularly fond of, but some will like this. I think I can get used to it though. The laces are crazy durable to a level I haven't seen before. The shoes seem narrow in appearance which I thought was going to be a problem with my wider feet, but they are comfortable in width none-the-less. I think the pointy toe-box makes them appear narrower than they really are. The lacing system is different too. No matter how I laced them, I always ended up with one side longer than the other - it takes some finagling to get them equal. The Ortholite insoles are comfortable without adding additional weight.All-in-all, I'd say these are going to be a great choice for the trail. Whether backpacking, rock scrambling or traipsing around the woods - these provide a comfortable and durable experience. 5 stars!UPDATE: The inside of the heel counters have started wearing through and ripping prematurely after not even a year. Deducted one star.

I have the fire orange ones (no longer being sold) and the olive ones. I bought the olive ones only because I like these shoes so much I don't want to put too much time on one pair. I may buy a third.Fit is perfect, I'm a 9 to 9.5 and the 9's feel custom made for my feet. Mid width foot.I use them for trail running, hiking, and long treks in the chaparral in So California. Perfect for warmer and dryer climates. Never a single blister. Super durable sole as well. Last month I wore them every day for a, 24 day straight "marathon" (2+ mile a day hike/run). I've had them since Oct. 2019 and the soles have hardly worn down. I can't even count how many miles I have on them.Traction is fantastic, feet stay cool comfortable even in big heat. Soles flex enough for comfort but are stiff enough to keep pressure points in feet cushioned from random sharp stones etc. I've yet to have cactus spines penetrate through them as well (not that I'm testing that part on purpose!).Right out of the box they are sublimely comfortable, and I've even done some basic bouldering/skree with them (as they are intended really). They are the perfect warm and dry weather shoe. They shed moisture quickly and dry out fast. Can't say enough about them, and the second pair fit exactly like the first.Totally recommended. Great product.-C

After receiving my shoes I discovered that while they were indeed new they may have been shipped previously or at least looked at by the seller. I could tell the packaging with the shoe had been open at some point. The only problem was that part of the fit system insole was missing. I contacted Salewa support and they were able to find and send me replacements free of charge. I could not be happier with their service. As for the shoes themselves, they are really nice. The quality is very good. While these resemble tennis shoes, make no mistake they are not. The soles are stiffer and more supportive for trail use. I like the narrow profile and unique appearance. The fit was spot on for my normal mens 10 sizing.I will likely buy more shoes from this brand.

Because of my weird feet (feet are weird. Everyone's feet are weird.) I prefer to wear shoes that have laces to the toe...that way I can make them comfortable. These have one of the roomiest toe boxes I have found, but cannot be laced very tight at the toe. They are a tad loose on my foot, especially at the heel, but even with the not-perfect fit, they are more comfortable than the last 3 pairs of shoes I've had (Scarpa, Evolv, and Haglofs) after a long day on my feet. The sole makes my walk a bit exaggerated, but don't seem to be causing any pain or strange wear on the sole. My second-favorite pair of shoes in the past 12 years. Well worth it.

In reading other reviews I decided to but up a 1/2 size. I usually wear a 9 1/2, and sometimes I'm better in a 9. Rarely I wear size 10. For these I ordered a 10, and they fit just right. If I'd have got my normal 9 1/2 I would have had too little space for the toes. My feet are a little wide, but these fit perfectly. They come with a second insole if you have thinner feet - I won't use it but it's smart they provide it. I plan to use these as my lightweight hikers on an upcoming week long backcountry backpacking trip. Still months away, but I'm confident these will work great!

Have a very narrow foot---usually have to buy high end ($250 -350/pair) dress shoes to get proper fit. With athletic shoes, buy extra inserts and heavy socks to achieve an OK fit. Bought another pair made by this company while on vacation because they were very narrow . Was so pleased purchased this pair--different model--because wanted black shoe. So far very satisfied. purchased 1/2 size bigger than normal because others said shoe runs a liitle small. I think this is the correct. While this model is not as narrow as 1st pair, still more narrow than most athletic shoes.

Very stable for a low top, much more so than the 'mountain trainer'. Have worked great for me, carried heavy loads well and summited the Grand Teton in these. They fit on the snugg side but you certainly don't want any slop when you are rock climbing fifth class terrain with these, and they gave me no trouble at all going down hill both on technical descents and on the trail out with a heavy pack. Hiked around plenty in them too and they don't roll your ankles like some other shoes can. I recommend these; they've been great for me..

I have a foot injury and am very sensitive to the types of shoes and level of comfort they provide. I went for a 4 hour hike in them on pretty steep terrain and I did not get a single blister and did not suffer too bad. These are good tough shoes, I was very impressed with how substantial and tough they were. I should say I am not a professional hiker but I have done lots of hiking during hunting seasons and in different types of foot wear. No blisters or aches.

My son is hiking the Appalachian Trail. He started with this shoe. After hundreds of miles he needed new shoes so he purchased a different brand. After only 200 miles, his feet were covered in sores. He went back to this shoe and has been using them for the past 300 miles without a problem. I purchased these to have for him when I meet him as the trail passes through our home state of Massachusetts. Stay with a trusted friend. Hike the good hike. ;)

These shoes are great--I just made the mistake of ordering up a half size. I normally wear a US 8 (D or E width) or EU 41. This was definitely too big.I then exchanged these for a half size down (US 8)--it was too big to use as an approach shoe as I had a good 1/2" in front of my toes. Would likely be fine for hiking or everyday. Loved the locked-in heel fit. I have pretty wide feet and appreciated that these still were wide enough.

2 years, 5 countries and countless miles later I replaced mine with the exact same pair. They are comfortable enough for pavement and grippy enough for some truly sketchy climbing. They do run small I would buy a half size up from what you normally wear. I shouldn’t have replaced them long before I did but they lasted and held up amazingly well I still wear the old ones for running around town when traction is far less of an issue.

I love Salewa brand so much, but this particular pair are so far from 5 stars. There plastic inside of them. Just after your heel there bunch of it.Just dont like it, because they can't fit perfect.upd. I bought them for something like 96USD. Now its almost 128. Why? This is really crazy price.By the way, those pair of salewa died soon my first review. They wont last long.Used them as my main pair of shoes during each day.

I love these shoes - they are exactly as pictured in terms of color. The fit perfectly, true to size. I couldn't find them anywhere but Amazon and they were a great surprise for my first shoe purchase from Amazon. They are super comfortable and I wear them almost every day. Shipped fast and well. My first and definitely not last pair of Salewas - I love them because I never see anyone with the same shoes on!

it is narrower on the toes then other hiking shoes I have owned, then again, these are approach shoes. I find that lacing them up tight actually makes the shoe more comfortable. The sole has great grip and when I climbed a few boulders on my hikes these shoes really came alive. I love these shoes. I guess they have to be narrower at the toes to function properly when scrambling up boulders.
