en)A can opener that doesn't look roadwork like a can opener? How could it be? For someone who is left handed, a manual can opener is something that can be difficult. Voila, here is the answer, and for bright handed folks, also. It is so easy to use.In fact when using this opener there are no rough edges left on can or lid. It is so easy to-turn, with a side-wind grip. I was not sure the can was open at first. I did not need the use of the lid pliers, but if you don't want yo touch the opener, it is there for your use. The handles are non slip, and the turning knob is very easy to turn. One of the nicest parts of this opener is that the cutting wheel does not touch the contents,so there is no chance of any type of contamination. This can be easily hand washed if you have the need. Left to dry and it is ready for use again. One f the easiest openers I have ever used.Recommended. prisrob 10-11-14

I used to have an old can opener - called the Topper - that, like this OXO, opened cans by slicing in where the side and the top join together, so that you get a smooth lip both on the lid and the can - no sharp edges. And, if you only use some of the contents, you can rest the lid back on the can and put it in the fridge - not sealed, but, at least, covered. The Topper died - it was rather old - and this OXO looked the best replacement: not only does it work in the same way, it also has built-in pincers to help remove the lid. And it's solidly made and chunkily comfortable in the hand. Hopefully, it will last the many years that its predecessor did.

Admittedly, only arrived today but it's clear that it works a darn site better than the cheaper ones I've bought in the past. There were no sharp edges at all and it was easy to turn the knob (which was big enough to get a good grip on).The little built in pliers that you use to grasp the lid worked fine.Delivery via Prime was as quick as predicted. Mine was a, cheaper, 'returned and re-sold' item so the packaging was a bit torn ... but I knew that and the item was in perfect condition.Very pleased. Recommended.EDIT. UPDATE 16/5/19It continues to be the best tin opener known to man. Faultless.

This is the best can opener I've ever used! I share a student flat with 5 others and we have 4 openers between us, but everyone is now using my OXO opener. Unlike some other openers i've used where the blades tend to slip from the edge of the can while turning, once this opener is fixed to the side of the can it stays there until you press the button to release it. The handle is very easy to turn and hardly requires any force at all (really important as I'm fairly petite and don't have that much upper body strength). In short: get this opener, it's a little pricey but you definitely won't regret it!

Hi. I received this can opener yesterday. It's expensive but in the long run it will be better than frequently replacing cheap ones. Unfortunately, I found it very hard to use as I am left handed. The crank was very hard to turn with my right hand and there is no way to flip it or turn the opener around - it must be used as a right handed device. I made it through and was able to open a can of soup through determination. I'm keeping it though because it seems to be of superior quality. I have to get my right handed husband to open the cans from now on, though.

Best can opener ever! My grandmother got one, bought another for my parents, and after her death they inherited hers. That is over 10 years ago and they are still going strong. I had to get myself one, too, of course! I always found using other can openers to be challenging, sometimes even painful from how much force I had to use. Not with this one!! So easy. Just grab the metal edge of the lid, close the handles and it clicks, then turn the knob and pretty soon your can is open with no jagged edges. I love this thing, I'm serious. It makes my life easier.

I purchased this because I have had elbow surgery, so I find can openers tricky. It works very simply by locking onto the can as you gently press down. Then no pressure is needed whilst you turn. You then push a button to release the pressure. Good for anyone who struggles with can openers, including my 9 year old who likes to cook, but wouldn't have the grip strength for a conventional can opener. Worth the extra money to me. My Mum has purchased one for a relative with Parkinson's on my recommendation, she is also very pleased with it.

I never thought I'd enthuse over a can opener but this is just brilliant! I've struggled with the safety type openers and just can't get on with them at all. I could never get them on the can first time and when opening cans of tuna I'd have to open the can in the sink as the brine would go everywhere. So frustrating! Then I stayed at the home of a friend who had one of these. I ordered one for us as soon as I got back home and our other openers were thrown in the bin. This is so easy and effortless - a fabulous product!

Having previously only ever used a classic, painful, metal can opener I don't have a great deal to compare this too. Though in comparison to what I've used before it is simply worlds apart.First it clamps on (Snap-Lock) to the can with one satisfying squeeze of the handles. Then simply turn the ergonomic winder with a lot less pressure than is required with the traditional openers I've used before.I would definitely recommend as a good quality upgrade to a traditional can opener.

This item may take a few attempts to master at first, as the concept is quite different to the tin openers that most off us have grown up using. Please don't be put off by that though as this a great idea. It enables you to reuse the lid to re-seal the can you've just opened and the mechanism is smooth and easy to turn unlike some openers which leave your hands and fingers sore and tired.

I've tried all sort of tin openers over the last few years some cheap some expensive, But non of them lasted more than a month or so before they stopped working for some reason or other, Whether is was bad design in the case of the expensive ones or just made of rubbish materials in the case of the cheap ones, But at last I chose this one and touch wood it's been perfect ever since.

Easy to turn , smooth action. Cuts the can's lid seam fold. Didn't think it had worked, it was so easy, 'til I pulled the top off with the built in pincer. The blurb is correct, no sharp edges. Even did a big Fray Bentos tin ! I'm opening cans for the sake of it and eating too much. It is designed to take the stress off of the mechanism so should last years. Nice piece of kit.

Brilliant can opener, I have arthritis in my hand and this is the best can opener I've ever had. At first you don't think it's working but you just flip the lid that has been made and you have a tin with smoothed edges and now a lid if you don't use all the contents. Very easy to use once you realise the can opener is cutting through. See the Oxo Good Grips video's on YouTube.

I'd had a "magican" type opener for a while which was getting worse and worse. Tried opening a tin one night and it broke...! So it was a case of a real old fashioned one or maybe this (not a fan of "automatic" ones). This is very sturdy, easy to use and to wash too. It "locks" onto the can which makes it simple. Much better than the previous one and pretty good value.

This is the easiest can opener to use that I have ever had. Over the last few years I have bought several different types including electric and one touch models as I have problems with my hands, but these were all useless for me.With this Oxo model I was just unpacked the product and was able to use straight away. In fact now I can't wait to open another can!!
