Bought this item from Tesco Direct as sourced the least expensive option with free delivery in store. This was after a disappointing transaction for the same item from Amazon Warehouse.I have the start of Osteoarthritis and once I found myself waiting for my husband to come home to open a tin as I could not due to the pain in my right thumb, I was converted to trying an electric tin opener!I researched the product and found that for value for money, there are not that many on the market.I had read other reviews on this product which stated it is fiddly to use - and yes, you do have to get the hang of placing the lip of the tin in the right position.May recommendation to this is to pay attention when you first get it right!I have just received this and it did take me a few minutes to open the first tin = but perseverance (and possible pain if I didn't get it right!) gave me a great result. My summary is as follows:Item looks classy and would enhance any kitchen - traditional or minimalisticEasy wipe clean.Fits well on the kitchen counter taking up little floor space.Easy to use once you get the knack!Once the lip comes off, I have found edges are not sharp enough to cause great injuries - some openers cut razor sharp.Obviously, don't forget to lightly hold the base of the tin whilst opening!I think I will get used to using this little gadget with great love and affection!!As mentioned previously: A point I would like to add is that after a disappointing transaction with Amazon (I have had many good transactions but this involved Amazon Warehouse which is a subsidary which I will avoid if possible in future), I bought my Kenwood can opener from Tesco direct for under £15 with free delivery to the Tesco store. The reason I have given it 4 stars is that you do have to take care where you place the tin for it to successfully open the lid.I hope this review helps someone out there as I have always found the reviews helpful to me.

I've never thought about an electric can opener before developing a very stiff and painful hand which made opening cans with a regular can opener impossible . Living alone I had no one to help me.Not that I live out of cans I hasten to add, but yes, I would say I open quite a few in a week particularly medium sized cans of fruitSo the opener arrived several dasys ago now and armed with a good few reviews of it in here under my belt on " how to " , that is , "find the knack", I proceeded with confidence. Hmmm ....not quite such a success as I'd imagined.A friend looking over my shoulder didn't help either ! Best be on your own is my advice when attempting to find the knack ...and I did ...eventually !I've found that taking the paper off the can first is a good help.If at first you don't succeed ..do just this .Then place the can on your left palm and raise it up to the drive wheel. Try not to look exactly what you're doing! Be confident! Then bring down the lever with your right hand , making sure the cutting point is on the edge of the can, and press. The magnet will grab the can and hold it, so take your hands away now. Brrrr. ...... and the opener springs into action and the lid is cleanly cut off. Marvellous !Having said that I'm still having difficulty with small tuna and salmon cans . But I'll persist !Buy it with confidence!Edited.23rd Nov.Take some of the label off around top of tin if you have difficulty.Cracking on marvellously now with it ! You just need the knack and ....thats it !

My 30 year old Kenwood can opener had finally given up the ghost and as I had a £10 voucher for Robert Dyas headed there, they only had a Russel Hobbs with £2 off the RRP so I purchased one and went home happy. Lucky for me the first can I tried to open was a corn beef can, the can opener promptly spun the can off on the first corner just missing my foot, I then tried holding the can round the corner and it jammed solid & had to move fast to swith off at the socket, next day returned not fit for purpose. I came home went on the internet asking for a Kenwood can opener & up came Amazon at £8.50(50% off)with free 4/5 day delivery so promptly ordered one & it was delivered 48hrs later.First thing I noticed on the box was that it said it opened cans of all shapes & sizes as my old one had done for all those years, so I got another corn beef can out it being the most awkward shape & it whizzed round it with no bother at all & very quiet compared with the RH one. The shape is the same as my old model but with the addition of a knife sharpener, bottle opener, rubber feet & the chrome finish makes it look really smart too. So I am very happy with Kenwood as it does what it it supposed to do & if it lasts as long as the old one it'll see me out, I'm also very happy with Amazons delivery service, 5* to both of them.

I have seen reviews sometimes stating this can be difficult to use but I have never had a problem with it. This is my second in fact as I used the other for many years and eventually wore it out although it still works but with a bit of noise. This machine even opens Frey Bentos pie tins with a little support of the tin. Most cans it opens without human intervention bar offering it up to the cutter. Once latched the tin is opened and safely attached to the machine until you choose to remove it. The magnetic lid holder will work most of the time and pull away the lid. The secret of this however is to keep the machine clean and leave the magnet free to move. The bottle opener works well but for small bottles even you often have to move the device to the edge of the surface to get the bottle under. The knife sharpener does just that but I prefer to use the old fashioned method for this task. It's an extra that is useful if you are not good at manual sharpening. My first was bought by my kids for a Christmas present and they couldn't even tell when I replaced it as the old one looked as good as new! Great bit of kit this especially for those having difficulty with traditional openers. Practice makes perfect so give it a fair try. Cheap as chips and well designed to boot.

I got this to help out with the tin opening as I must be getting old as things don't open so easily with hand tools... I also wanted to use the knife sharpener to sharpen up my knives, though this feature is a bit naff. The unit is white plastic, it was simple to figure out, plug and go. It does exactly what I needed it to, though that knife sharpener is probably going to take some getting used to.I am sure this tool will be used frequently, though that knife sharpener is so iffy - but it seems to work ok. Will do some more reviewing after getting used to it.I also got this from Warehouse Deals so I paid a bit less for this - if I paid much more I think I would go with 'three star' impression. However I got it for a bit more what I would have got a manual tin opener for - so in this light I give it 4 stars.I read in reviews that the magnet bit didn't work too well - I have not had this problem. I do see that there is a screw that that part attaches to and if that is loose, maybe that would cause the fault. also this item is a bit bigger than I expected - so it does take a little bit of space up. If you need a cheap electric tin opener with a 'knife sharpener' then have a look at this one. Not the best, certainly not the worst...

I only had to buy this new one because I pulled the old one apart to clean it and couldn't get it back together again - hardly the can openers fault. This is a sturdy little device which takes a bit of getting used to but once you've got it, you'll never be let down. You just have to offer the can up to the teeth until the machine takes them and starts to go. As I say, you'll get used to it. Then the lid will just spin off in no time. You'll then go for different techniques. Will you be a complete lid off person? Here's why I only give 4 stars instead 5 - the magnet doesn't always grab the lid and it ends up in the can itself (so always wash the lid). Or perhaps you're a lid nearly off person? Here you leave a little lip off metal on the tin and use some implement to lever the lid up - watch your fingers though.Don't forget - which I didn't realise for years with my older model there is an inbuilt bottle opener. The other thing I didnt realise was that there is a rotating knife sharpening - superberb!! Nice bit of kit and well worth the money. The chrome finish looks good in a kitchen too.Oh - and don't don't take it apart - unless you know what your doing.

Incredibly Great item - now I can stop moaning about the manual can opener which was awkward, gunged up, took paper off the can, and hurt my hand to use.Thank you Kenwood. Having read other reviews may I suggest a few things:-1. Turn the opener side on as I found this the easier way to see the guide bar and align the cans under the magnet.2. For those who complain about the chrome being plastic (so is the white version). The "chrome" with black background still looks great!!!3. Easy to use and clean - no more gunging!!!!4. My hands are happy now that the struggle is taken out of opening cans. A small thing to some but when you are older and your grip goes it is a real blessing to have thiseasy to use can opener.Primarily I bought this for the can opener part so not sure about the bottle opener - never used it (and it could have been placed away from the can opener part - which may be why there is sometimes trouble aligning the cans).I tried the knife sharpener - made knife a bit sharper but think I would have it done professionally if needed. Finally, I am really happy with this and show it off to all my friends!!!!

Bought this one as my old kenwood seen better days. I had my old for over 14yrs and never failed me so decided to get a new one from the same company, I chose this one mainly cause it featured also a knife sharpener. The product arrived on time but that's no surprise as amazon mostly gets it right. On arrival package was good everything seemed right although I could hear that a small plastic droke off and was moving about inside but it didn't hinder the devices functions in away. Overall it did everything OK it was easy to open can and the extra magnet to hold the lid in place is very handy. Only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is cause the knife sharpener does not work tried sharpening my knife for 10mins and nothing, also looking into the part that supposed to sharpen it seems like plastic no metal parts or stone part just plastic hence why it does not sharpen. Either they forgot to slot in or its just a gimmick. So if you want a knife sharpener look else where if you want bottle opener and can opener than this product is the one to get and considering the price you can go wrong really.

I've had the equivalent white CO600 model at home for many years and it's a great opener - just remember that you can't open an upside down can with it (a "trick" I've tried a few times when not paying attention!). Despite work buying all sorts of kitchen electrical gadgets (coffee machines, microwave, fridge, toaster, sandwich griller - all of which are more expensive), they have never had an electric can opener. Enough staff get put off by the manual can opener that they don't bring in cans unless they've got ring pulls or avoid cans altogether.I wanted to bring in Tesco's own-brand Beef Ravioli (not the Everyday Value - the normal mid-range one), which at 50p a can (but no ring pul!)and a sauce to die for is one of the all-time greatest canned foods, IMHO. Sadly, I've been denied this pleasure at work because this is the 21st century and I refuse to immensely struggle with manual can openers when there's a fast, cheap, reliable and efficient electric can opener like this one. Insist one this product at your workplace so you too can enjoy Tesco Ravioli without imense effort and frustration.

I purchased this for my mother who has arthritis and finds it hard to open cans with a hand can opener. It is very well built and looks very nice in the kitchen! You just pop the can in place, and hold the black handle down and it turns the can for you until it's open. You can then use the magnet to pull out the cut out in case it fell inside. My only downside is that it is hard to find where to align the can with the blade and my mother struggles finding this too. What I do is just make sure the blade is in the correct position, then hold the button down and it tends to lock the can into place whilst it spins it around. It has no problem opening the hard-to-open corned beef cans too!Cheaper electric can openers really couldn't do this, so I am confident that if this can opener can open these type of cans, they can open any can! This runs on the mains only. Whilst this is a upside and a downside, it saves you from having to change batteries every now and then.Definitely a must have in the kitchen so you don't need to struggle with opening cans anymore.

I wish I had bought one sooner! I have struggled for years with traditional manual can openers, opening fray bentos cans was a nightmare, but this machine makes life so much easier. No more aching hands or wrist. I suggest reading the instructions before using it and try and understand how it works. I have seen a negative review when using it to open a Fray Bentos can so I opened one. This may sound obvious, but here are my tips: make sure the opener is on a flat surface, hold the can in position with your left hand supporting the base of the can, press the lever with your right hand to open. I didnt have any problems with the fray bentos can and opening anything smaller is simple.Opening bottles is not a problem, but I was still tempted to hold the unit down, even though it seems quite heavy. The knife sharpener probably works quite well on a quality knife, but the knife I tried was not one of the best. I'll stick to diamond sharpenening tools for now! I would highly recommend the kenwood, great value for money and an excellent kitchen tool

Chic, sturdy and easy to operate and clean. This can opener is a must have for arthritis sufferers!!Unlike some other reviewers,I found it simplicity itself to use - hold can in position, lower arm and its away, not stopping till the lid is removed.(must admit I haven't tried it on any irregular shaped tins yet,so can't comment on that) The can is quite safely held until the arm is raised(whew!!!),and the only reason I might possibly deduct 1/2 a star is because the magnet doesn't always catch the lid. But as I'm used to having to fish around retrieving lids out of soup etc,I think that would be a tad pedantic...The arm containing the blade & magnet is completely removable, making it as easy toclean as to use.And as far as I'm concerned, the knife sharpener and bottle opener were just a bonus, but my knives are probably sharper now than they've ever been and I don't lose the bottle opener any more - result!A blessing for arthritics, but a worthy and stylish addition to any kitchen.

It seems virtually impossible to buy a simple but durable hand operated tin opener in the shops. Our neighbours had a Kenwood of this type but it was only the husband who used it as his wife found it awkward. I tried the tin opener and found it was a bit tricky to get the tin properly positioned but once working it did an effective job. I ordered the CO606 from Amazon the same day and as expected it was received within a couple of days. It has opened a variety of tin shapes very effectively but it is not always easy to locate the tin at first. I have found it easier if the magnetic lid remover is taken off and used separately as this also gives a better view of the location bar and blade. It seems well made and it does the job. The bottle opener and knife sharpener have not been used so far and are probably a bit superfluous. My wife prefers me to do the tin opening using this machine but I'm sure she could cope if she had to.

Whilstt I would never deter anyone from buying this (as I had my previous one for years and years) I decided to get a new one as I had some money to spend on a gift and gave my old one away. I order ed one from Amazon and was so excited to receive my new one. However the plug would not fit in the socket so I had to return it.I tried another big retailer for one but when I got it home this too would not plug in the socket. I have been unable to contact Kenwood but I do hope they get it right as I really really want another one of theirs - I gave my old one away before I knew the fault and now have to make do with another cheap brand which is not very good at all.Do hope Amazon manage to get this sorted with Kenwood as I cannot wait to get my Kenwood back in its original form.Having said that, Amazon were most helpful when I had this prioblem and were going to check their warehouse to see if they were all faulty.

I was amazed the first time I used it of how easy it is. I have RA and my hands mostly the right one is in really bad shape, with a young family to feed I thought it was time to get something to help me opening can as I cannot always wait for someone to be around to help me. I saw all the other can openers that run with batteries but I wasn't convinced as if the batteries run out you end up with a half open can connected to it so it means I will need help also they don't look great.I used the Kenwood can opener two days ago to open two chickpeas cans, wow it was incredible!, so easy no effort from me and because it is connected to the mains no problems with batteries running out. Also it looks quite nice in my kitchen. Now I am just disappointed that I did not buy it sooner it probably would have help my hand. Hopefully it will last, let's see. I really recommend it.UPDATE: 4 years later and still going strong.
