Having now gone back to the butterfly can opener after years in the "wilderness" seeking the perfect combination of, fit for purpose, and aesthetic pleasure re. these gadgets, I am wondering why I put myself through the expense (many, many "designer" openers), and discomfort, even pain, attempting to get the objects to function, when the solution lay in the familiar,if very plain, butterfly version. In frustration at being unable to get my latest "fancy" opener to work, I decided to give the model from my childhood a chance.I wish I had done it ages ago! 10 out of 10. (Oh, apart from in the looks department, of course!)

I have tried so many can openers, but this one really is the best. Not a spec of plastic in sight, does exactly what it says on the, well, tin opener. Makes nice deep contact so that it doesn't keep slipping off the tin like other openers I've tried.Only issue is that the cogs do not seem to be stainless steel, so the might rust. However, I have had it for several months now, and no sign of this yet (touch-wood!). Given the price, if it does rust, I will just buy another one. Just hope they keep making these!

This rather elderly design puts most of the newer, more fashionable can openers to shame. It just works every time! Unlike its modern opposition, it does not chew up the can lids creating messy situations where you are left with half open cans so that you have great difficulty extracting their contents. Once again, this basic, timeless, and highly efficient item, has taken pride of place in our kitchen drawer with the newcomers confined to the trash!

I ordered these because I lost my other butterfly can opener. I can't use other can openers (except electric ones and not paying the money for those). This is a back to basics, simple can opener that does the job, low maintenance and I don't worry about the cutting blade going dull on me. Also the added benefit of it being light, easy to fit an find in a packed utensil draw with a bottle opener at the end - YAY!!Love this product, will recommend.

What can be said other than if it's not broke, don't fix it. Classic design that still performs flawlessly. Incredibly cheap but quality hasn't been compromised.I prefer it to many of the new design can openers because it cuts the lid on the inside (some can openers cut the whole top off), which means with things like tuna, that you can use the cutout lid to squeeze out the excess liquid, which you can't do if the whole top of the can is cut off.

I have always preferred this type of opener and have always used this kind from day one of opening cans. Unfortunately I do not appear to be able to buy these locally now from the shops I visit so hence this purchase. From all the negative comments posted I did wonder whether these were of sufficient quality. I bought two and I am still using the first one to open cans which seems fine. For the price paid I am certainly not complaining.

Needed a new can opener and decided to buy a butterfly style one after using my flatmate's.It works 100% of the time and feels sturdy and of good quality. I have used it for just under once every day for a month and it is still going strong. If you have never used one before then I will say that twisting the handle requires more force than if you bought a conventional can opener but this is not a problem for me.

Can't beat a sub £2 tin opener that will last for the next 20years... I kept buying fancy ones from John Lewis and the like and they have all failed after 6-12months. But not this baby ah ah! I had to replace it – hence this purchase – because some friends nabbed it on our camping holiday this summer. I didn't mind; I could understand the jealousy of such a quality item!

I like these types of tin openers as they're much more reliable than the newer designs. This is great. It's really easy to use. I have pain when using things like this, but this is manageable. And it's definitely value for money. I would definitely buy this product again if I needed another. And I would buy from this seller too. It arrived quickly & in mint condition.

It does what its meant to do. It cam in a plastic bag, so dented my laminate floor when posted - that's my only complaint - I bought this for opening tuna - so I can drain it as my other can opener takes the whole lid off so makes it difficult to put back in to drain the brine. This one works perfect so i'm very happy with the whole thing.

I hate the plastic style can openers. For some reason I always struggle with them, but they seem to be the only type most of the shops sell.I was really pleased to see the metal butterfly style can openers on Amazon. The price was great, and the device just does what it’s supposed to do without any faff. Please continue selling these.

No fuss or batteries here. Just a mechanical, stripped down tin opener that does the job. It actually takes a bit of muscle power in the hand region, so might not be the thing to buy Granny, but it's ideal as a backup to have if a more expensive can opener that lives in your kitchen fails. So, really, all good.

Excellent item. They always were the best. The new type tin openers that take the whole top of the can off are positively dangerous and i know of a few people who have had accidents with them. This is the conventional type and i bought a few and now my friends are happy and not in danger.

You can keep your fancy can openers. These old fashioned butterfly types stand the test of time. I bought this because my previous one broke after 25 years.Hopefully this one lasts as long.I’ve given it 4 stars for value for money as I’m sure they were cheaper prior to the pandemic

It's unparalleled ability to open all but the most hardy of tin cans has made this item a favourite of mine, I regularly sleep with it under my pillow in order to feel secure when enduring my usual nightmare in which a tin can attempts to devour my fingers and soul...
