I have purchased this over the weekend and had an initial go on an orange which was not too terrible after I applied a lot of strength. However, when I tried zesting a lemon nothing happened. I have tried moving up/down one way around and another and am just feeling stupid and not sure if it's me or the zester that's at fault. I cannot remove any skin whatsoever from a lemon no matter how hard I push the zester into the lemon. I will take a lemon with me and go back to the store and have someone to teach me how to zest (I am hoping the zester is faulty, otherwise I will be very embarrassed!). As for all other OXO products I would give them 5 stars as they are faultless.-----Edit:Reading otherpeople's reviews and having another few goes I have finally got the hang of it so it wasn't the product that was faulty but the user. It is probably the same thing as learning to use peeler for the first time, it doesn't seem to be working and the peel is too thick when you start but then you learn to curve it correctly and voila!I have changed it back to a 5 star rating because it definitely does what it is supposed to do. Thanks for the comments, guys.Matt

At first I thought the teeth on the zester were a little on the small side, but once you get the hang of it you'll be producing zest like nobodies business. None of the pith has ever been gouged out.I've not yet seen anyone mention the "peel" part of the zester, used to create long strips of citrus peel that have great decorative effect - I use long strips in various cocktails and on cakes, and with a bit of practice you can skin a whole lemon in one big long strip. Unlike the zester, on the lemons I use the peeler will remove some of the pith - not an issue for me since I never eat decorative peel but some might not like this. Not sure that the peel function would work well for left-handers though,it definitely seems to be a hold-in-the-right-hand-and-pull-towards-you kind of deal. Lefties should have no issues with the zester part of this tool though. The grip is large and comfortable, either in my large hands or the small ones of my SO, and still grips well when wet, also easily wiped clean of any errant sticky citrus juice.I settled on buying this one after using a few similar zesters at friends houses, and so far it's superior to all.

Would not be without this gadget now. Easy to hold and does exactly what it says. Fantasically quick and if used in short scrapes better than a grater as non is wasted. Works even better for fine grating on slightly dried up citrus fruits. Longer, heavier scrapes produce ideal 'peels' for marmalade making without much pith but I have to get my husband to do these due to my arthritic lack of enough strength to do 12 or more oranges at a time and even he is so impressed with the gadget he has got into the habit of scraping the peel off all his oranges for juicing with it so I have a supply in the freezer for baking and his favourite tomato soup!

The best lemon zester I've ever had. It cuts off the zest in small or tiny pieces or use the middle part to make a more longer chunkier length for decoration. I use mine on carrots more often than lemons, when making a stir fry I cut carrots up to put in then shred some carrot on top too. It is also good shredding carrot on salads or in sandwiches. The grandchildren like to add some to their sandwiches, it's a good way to get them eating carrot. It just goes in the dishwasher with the cutlery, so no problem washing.I've had this a couple of years now and it's still going strong, definitely worth the money.

As a keen baker a good zester is essential kit and I have had several over the years but this is by far the best. Once you get the knack of it (yes it does take a bit of practice), it's very easy to use and produces nice pith free strips. The large grip makes it easy to use even if you have difficulty with your grip. In fact I had to buy a second for my mum because she keeps "borrowing" mine and she has real difficulty with her grip. The only issue I have is I can't use the channel knife but that's only because I'm left handed.

This is a terrific little gadget!I wanted to make home made limoncello last year & needed the zest of 15 lemons - hence this purchase. This zester was super easy to use, the grip being comfortable and fitting the hand really well. It quickly & easily removed the zest, but without taking out great chunks of pith with it too. It really worked very well, particularly as I was zesting so many lemons at once, no aching hands, or it sliding out of my grip.Went through the dishwasher no problem. Well made, and highly recommended.

Takes the slog out of zesting. Wish I'd had it BEFORE embarking on baking my first ever christmas cake(s) last year as it was a real pain zesting the citrus without one. Then saw one of these at both my son's girlfriend's and my niece's homes. So decided to buy one (which was handy when baking the second Christmas cake) - only to have one bought for me for Christmas by same niece! I was able to say, "I bought one after seeing yours!"

It is a little weird to have to pull the zester towards you rather than away from you - almost as though this is for left-handed folks - but it otherwise works fine. This makes it quite easy to do long, uniform lemon peels. I will note that the depth of the peeler means that you end up with a tiny bit of pith but it isn't really noticeable.

So far all Good Grips products I've purchased have been exceptionally good quality & perform as advertised & this is no exception. Thumbs up for Good Grips which are also of particular benefit to me because I have arthritis in my hands & find it difficult to hold most tools but theirs are always very good.

I find it's really quick and easy to remove all the zest without the pith. I make lemon curd in large batches and it's slashed the preparation time. I give the 'zest's a quick chop with a large knife for lemon curd, otherwise they are a little long and stringy. Dishwashes fine.

I have been very impressed with the Oxo Good Grips products and their excellent after-sales service, to the extent that if I want kichen things I first look to see if they do one. I am quite clumsy, but even I can use this successfully.

This handy little kitchen tool is a must have. It is easy to use and quickly zests whatever fruit you use it on. The materials used in its construction are top quality and the design of the handle means it's comfortable to use.

Takes a little practise. I mainly wanted it for lemon zesting in cake making and the results were too chunky for me, so I'm back to using my grater. I think I am more likely to use it for carrots and salad ingredients.

This gadget does exactly what it is supposed to do, it zests lemons. As I have arthritis in my hands, I find the large rubberised handle easy to grip and to use. An inexpensive tool worth every penny.

Wish I had bought this years ago instead of struggling with a grater! Will now purchase more for family members. So much easier and quicker to use than grater and really comfortable for the hands too.
