There is an older model of this garlic crusher with quite a number of negative reviews, particularly in reference to the handle snapping. This (version of the?) garlic crusher has no such issue. You wouldn't think that selecting something as simple as a garlic crusher would have so many variables but, crumbs, there really is.One of the major disadvantages with some garlic crushers is that the "head" part where the crushed garlic comes out is not a flat surface. That's a big negative as you can't run a knife over it effectively and get all of the garlic that you can.One of the major advantages with a crusher like this one is that it has the teeth on the other side so that you can push the remainsof the garlic that is caught in the holes back out and re-crush it (or just put it in with the crushed). Cleaning the holes in a garlic crusher that doesn't have these is a real chore. One thing to watch out for though with the cleaning head is that water might get trapped behind the plastic part. I haven't personally found that with this garlic crusher (yet?) but there is a possibility. I might be completely wrong about that, however and find that the plastic part has nowhere behind it for the water to get trapped. I haven't tried breaking off the plastic to look.Leverage is a thing with garlic crushers, as is the ability to get a firm grip. I would say that it's a big thing but, realistically, it's down to the individual; some people would be able to hold on to a stainless steel grip just fine and if your hand has sufficient crushing power then pretty much any garlic crusher would work for you. Anyway, this has enough leverage to easily crush multiple cloves of garlic with reasonable ease. There's little else I can say. It's worked really well, cleans fine in the dishwasher and, with the above benefits, works really well for me.

This is the best Garlic Press I have ever owned. Some years back I threw out a plastic garlic press that was really difficult to get any pressed garlic through it and it was even more difficult to clean. I resorted back to chopping it up with a knife. However the OXO Good Grips Garlic Press is very easy to use and none of the garlic gets stuck inside because of built in cleaner that pushes the garlic back out. It has a very deep chamber that is deeper than I probably need but it still does the job perfectly even when filled with a few cloves of Garlic. I press the Garlic once and then scoop any bits that haven't gone through the holes back into the corner of the garlic press and after one more press, job done! So quick and efficient that I wished I had discovered this product sooner. When it comes to cleaning it all it takes is a quick rinse under the tap, no scrubbing and no garlic stuck in the little holes. I also like the appearance of this garlic press, it has a somewhat fashionable look to it with the smart black comfort grip handles and the silver metal. It is very robust and I expect it will last me many years.I highly recommend this garlic press.

Are garlic press makers in league with growers? I only ask because every press I've ever owned has the same problem. The two metal faces that meet to crush the garlic don't quite connect. With the case of this particular press, the external edges that you bring together when closing the press are ever-so-slightly closer together than the internal faces. The result is a small gap inside which means that you can never completely crush the garlic. There will always be a small amount of uncrushed garlic left in the press. When preparing large quantities this doesn't matter so much, but if you only wanted to crush one clove your choices are to lose a quarter of it,put the remaining quarter in your cooking in anyway partially crushed (to be fair this is often OK), or to fiddle about with what is left of your clove trying to crush it more completely. This might seem trivial but in a supposedly top-quality product it is quite a niggle.Apart from that this is a robustly-constructed and easy-to-use press that generally does the job, hence four stars despite the niggle.

I had the original version of this which broke after about 5 years use. I believe this new version is stronger to stop it breaking. The red plastic part and the holes have been redesigned and are larger than before. The handles do not hold water unlike the previous model.Yes you can put cloves in with skin attached if you like but you will end up wasting a bit of garlic that way. I find, chopping the hard end off a clove then giving it a bit of a twist with your fingers and the skin comes off easily and cleanly. Crush the cloves clean and you end up with no waste. You end up with nicely crushed garlic.Garlic presses are one of those tools that some will love and some will hate - I spent a longtime checking out conflicting reviews for all manner of presses before deciding on buying the new version of my old press and I'm glad I did.Highly recommended.I hope you found this review useful.

I was somewhat put off purchasing this product by all the negative reviews that have been posted. I was also surprised as having bought a number of Oxo Good Grips products before I held them in very high regard. Seeing that a lot of the reviews were eight years old I took a risk and bought the garlic press and I am glad to report I am very pleased with it so far. The press is large and can contain two large garlic cloves easily without any leakage around the sides (I haven't attempted to overfill it, a possible problem for others). Reversing the press to use the rubber cleaning prongs helps to clean out the press of the remaining garlic very easily. As always the oversized handles make using the press easy and comfortable.I have used this a number of times now and have no hesitation in recommending it alongside all the other Oxo Good Grips products.

I hate, hate, hate cleaning garlic presses so I did a bit of research before settling on this OXO product. No need for this to be a complicated review. It just works! Easy to put garlic in, crushes completely with no need to peel the garlic, opens fully to make it easy to scrape out the skin without any digging in a cavity and then flips to clear the holes 100%. After that all it needs is a quick run under the tap. I really can't think how it could be easier and cleaner. The only thing that could be better would be if OXO supplied someone to do the cleaning for you. I forgot to mention the quality. It is heavy duty and has a high-quality chrome finish to the metal parts making it lovely and smooth (and easy to rinse)and resistant to pitting. Again, hard to imagine how it could be any better at any price.

Nicely built, nicely put together. Has a rather handy cleaner piece on the back to make life easier. Will easily hold 1-4 garlic cloves. Easy to grip and use. They do however, seem to be made from dwarf star alloy as they weigh a metric ton. They're fine for me and my husband but I think if I gave them to my mum to use who has osteoarthritis her arm might snap off at the elbow. I suppose there is the argument that the weight ensures it doesn't take much effort to then crush the garlic but when lifting them from the counter becomes part of your weekly free weights training it might be worth revisiting the weight. If these things fall on your foot at the very least you're going to break a bone at the worst you'll be pinned to the spot until you're rescued or eaten by your pets.

Didn't know that a garlic press could be good looking but, like most OXO products, this one is: nicely designed angles which also, importantly, make the device comfortable to hold.Having just crushed eight whole garlic bulbs - clove by clove - for a mass batch of curry sauce I have to say, at risk of sounding sad, that it was an almost enjoyable experience. The red plastic/hard rubber block is genuinely useful and far from being a gimmick actually works. Pushing the red block into the crusher holes does clear the garlic skin from the crusher, ready for the next clove. Something so simple yet so well implemented and, having used it, I would say it's an essential feature. This would make a great present for a home chef and, especially perhaps, a curry freak ;-)

I have to say upfront I didn't purchase this from Amazon.Best garlic press I have used so far (and I've tried a few). It's solid, has a good grip and, to use a well worn phrase would crush a (hard) grape. Does some of the garlic creep up the side? Yep, a little. Not enough for me to care about.Washing - like all knives etc. I just clean it. I don't submerge it (mainly) as it's got hinges etc. that would take forever to dry. Just dip it and wash! Works a treat.Rubber grip handles - haven't had it long enough to confirm if the 'drip' or 'seep' as has been suggested.Best thing about it is the cleaner. Saves me scraping garlic skin off of it. Just turn the handle around, push the cleaner into the press and voila,it just pulls off. Perfect.

this is the best garlic press I have ever had. It's heavy and built to last. It's made from a solid (not hollow) aluminium casting chrome plated. One squeeze and the clove is through with little left behind. To eject the thin bits left, just open up the press and operate it the other way to eject the bits. It opens right up to clean in the sink, and theres no crevices for water or residue to get trapped. The rubber handles are comfortable. Most presses Ive used have been quite thin metal that bends out of shape if you get a hard clove or ends up crushing the clove and leaving it in the press. This can't bend as its cast metal and almost every bit of the clove is squeezed out first time. Its so good I find myself getting it out to show guests!

By far the best garlic press I have ever used by a long way. I've had a few in the last two years, but they have usually broken just from squeezing garlic normally. I certainly don't get the impression that will happen with this one. Neither does garlic seep up the sides, and there is very little residue left, even after just one press. They are also very easy to clean. I nearly didn't buy them as I have an inherent hatred of plastic, especially when combined with the sunlight and caustic products found in the average kitchen - plastic tends to degrade fairly quickly. There's no doubt that the handles are more comfortable to grip than metal ones, but it remains to be seen whether Oxo have got it wrong here in terms of longevity.

It is a sleek and easy to use kitchen tool. It presses the garlic quickly and easily. You do often end up with a flattened portion of garlic but we use a knife edge to flip it and then press more of it out. Is it better than mincing by hand - yes i think so. It is super quick and simple and easy to wash up (into the dishwasher). We have not hand minced garlic since we got this. One note of caution - it is a press so if you have arthritis pain, it might be a bit hard to manage as the handles are fat and you will need two hands to press it. But these fat handles are rubberised and make it alot easier than the metal handled ones which I have sent flying across the kitchen before when i tried toclose it with wet hands.

Always wanted a garlic crusher that 1) crushed the garlic, 2) didn't leave half the garlic inside in a mush, 3 easy to clean 4) can close the press. Never really found one.Purchased this and -- whilst not perfect it certainly is the best I have found so far.Place garlic in ( can take a few at a time, depends on size)Crush - easy enough the soft grips make it comfortable and easy to apply the pressure. Compared to some old crushers where you have to really squeeze, this oxo one is easier to use.More garlic comes out the crusher than is left inside though you do get leakage at the top.Easy to scrape the garlic off the crusher on the underside.Easy to clean inside.

I have arthritis and this makes things easier for me without looking like an occupational therapy disaster in the kitchen.Dishwasher friendly, crushes up to 3 garlic cloves at one time with ease....peel or don't peel the cloves, it doesn't matter. Also has been used to bash a load of chicken in clingfilm as I couldn't find the rolling pin - Husband might have thrown it as its too heavy for my wrists. Needless to say, this did the job. Its sturdy enough, and heavy weight without being over the top.I would say I would buy again, but these tools don't die, so unless it gets stolen, this garlic press is for life, not just for Christmas. (Its late November, sorry!)

Need to crush your garlic? You need these garlic crushers. I have had a few garlic presses over the years, and this set has to be the best so far. Here is why I think they are good:- Really big chunky grips.- Takes a good amount of garlic cloves.- Good leverage, easy to crush the garlic.- Garlic comes out as a good crushed paste- Cleaning function works really well and it stops you from having bits of garlic in the crusher after you take it out of the dishwasher.- No little bits to lose.- Great price. What I don't like:-The way that I smell after eating garlic crushed by these monsters.Save your time searching for a garlic press and order these.
