Overall, I do like our new Good Grips can opener, but an unexpected consequence of its design is the fiddly procedure to open a can:1. First 'unlock' the opener by pulling the grey button towards you (assuming you pressed it closed last time you used it);2. Clamp the opener onto the tin; as you press the cutting disk will bite into the tin, and the handle will lock closed (via the aforementioned grey button). This action feels very positive, and has the benefit that you no longer have to grip the handle closed to keep the device on the can! (its not something I care about greatly, but my partner has a weaker grip and I think she likes this);3. Hold the main handle with your left hand, and rotate the cutter-handle with your right hand...4. The design of the system intends that you will cut the lid clean off, at which point you can unlock the device from the tin (pull grey button towards you);5. As you remove the opener from the can, the lid should stick to the magnet, which has its own release mechanism. If your lid has any food stuck to it, you are going to have to handle it with your fingers to get it into your pan, and / or clean it for recyclingMy biggest gripe with this procedure is that you now have a dirty tin lid with somewhat sharp edges that needs to be handled very carefully before recycling. I therefore tend not to cut the lid clean off, and leave it attached to the main tin so I have to touch the lid less... but then the magnetic lid retention device risks issues.Overall there are things to like about this design, and we won't rush to replace this, but the magnetic lid retention part of this design fails to be useful for me in practice.

We have five can openers, ranging in price from £1.50 to £20, and not one of them has lasted more than a matter of months (sometimes less) without either developing quirks (like only opening some tins but not others, or only working if you manage to attach it at precisely the right angle). So we bought this as recommended by The Sweet Home (http://thesweethome.com/reviews/best-can-opener/), and are extremely pleased (and relieved) to report that it has worked faultlessly since purchase, and has put all of its competitors to shame. It is occasionally slightly fiddly to align correctly (only on certain can designs) but generally speaking it's been a joy to use - it's comfortable to hold, opens effortlessly, and even holds the removed lid magnetically once you've finished.Highly recommended.

After having spent tens of pounds on other cheaper can openers that only lasted a few months I decided to invest in a proper one. What a difference. Worth every penny. Easy to attach to the can and very easy to turn the handle. The only slight confusion I have is where the magnetic bit comes in. The lid does not attach to the can opener as you would expect (which is a small consideration) so why magnetic? However does not detract from overall performance which is excellent.

Honestly if they were to be a TV add for this product it would be a person trying to find as many tins as possible in their house . Then zoom in u see the kitchen top filled with can and tins and here we go .get the OXO tin opener and start enjoying opening cans . with no leak no struggle , sturdy handle grip. This is what I call an idea being pushed into a well though off product. I which there is more good quality and well though off stuff out there.

At last I have a no nonsense can opener that really works. My previous can opener was the type that took the complete top off, thus exposing a very sharp edge which was very dangerous. Prior to that I had an electric can opener which was tricky to use. It's nice to find a simple straight forward device. I have been using it for the last 2 weeks with no problems. In fact it is a joy to open cans instead of a chore.

I had a Magican can opener for ages. It was good, it did the job but it was a devil to clean properly. In the end it just got too manky and I had to get a replacement. After lost of searching online, I chose this OXO good grips opener and I'm very happy with it. It works well, it holds onto the cut lid and because the workings are on the side, it can be cleaned effectively. Recommended.

We've had a lot of trouble trying to find a decent can opener. (A lot of the problems seem to be because there is no standard to the can construction.) This opener worked well on the tins we've used so far. I like the way the opener clamps to the can when you squeeze the handles shut, no more can slipping as you start cutting. Has a press-button release on the top of the handles.

The best can opener I've ever used! I was so sick of using can openers that would get stuck, leave sharp bits on the cans or simply not open the can! This one has been amazing! The large handle makes it easy to grip which is something I've never had luck with before, and the little magnet means that it will lift up the lid once it's opened - so handy! I love it!

I would like this review to help those apprehensive buyers, who would think that buying this item could be an unpleasant experience, please do not think so, and go for it, I always respected good brands and this is one of them. 4 stars because this is my first one and have nothing to compare to.

For many years I have had a can opener of unknown manufacture which has opened all the tins I have put under it ! All except one - the Fray Bentos 425g pies.I purchased this opener to attempt to open this can, and it works !It is a top quality product which is well worth the purchase price.

Really excellent delivery came on the day it was expected. A really nice comfortable grip. Have used already and my wife is over the moon with it. Alright it might a bit pricey to the cheaper ones but well worth it. I have bought OXO items before and I have not been disappointed at.

I was given one of these can openers by my cousin, it is the best can opener I have ever used, once you get used to putting on the can its great so easy. I have just ordered 4 more 1 more for my cousin, one for a friend who has bad hands, one for my Mum and a spare one for me.

This is a Quality built item and is made to last. A bit pricey but that's not unusual from oxo but it is well worth it in the long term. I got this at a great price from the supplier and would use them again based on there very quick delivery.ThanksDerryck

Thin can opener is the very best one I have ever used! I must have tried most of them out there including the electric ones and this one is so easy to use even if you are old and a weak grip it is a very light can opener to use, would recommend to all

I got fed up buying cheap can openers that failed to open some cans, so I decided to purchase this product which was mor expensive but so far it shows signs of being a far robust and quality product and certainly worth the product price
