Miele's first hoover without a bag. It is quite heavy (over 8kgs) as it is a full size cylinder cleaner - it feels slightly heavier than my Automatic TT500 Miele which it is replacing and a lot heavier than an AEG full size cylinder that I keep upstairs. I found the machine a bit heavy to lug up and down stairs and the hose does not reach the whole way up my flight of 13 stairs (Victorian house) the lead isn't that long. It just about reached the end of my through lounge (standard Victorian terrace) so it needed plugging in in every room.It comes well packaged and is very intuitive to put together straight out of the box. You only need to attach the hose and floor brush. The main head has two modes - brushes down for hard floors and up for carpet. It does not have a turbo brush (with a roller head) so if you have a cat or dog with short hair you may want to purchase this seperately. I have four daughters with long hair and find the turbo roller head just gets stuck with hair coiled round it that has to be laboriously cut off so this head is much better for us. There is a round upholstery/cornicing brush in a seperate bag that does not attach anywhere which surprised me as Miele usually have a space for everything. Two attachments are stored on board at the back - a long, thin nozzle and a small head .There is a dial at the front of the machine with four settings - from maximum to minimum - floor rugs to hard floors. The maximum suck is very strong. The carpet lifts from the floor. It is quite a noisy machine but it cleans carpets quickly and well. It also picks up the long hairs with one or two glances over. After crumbs in the kitchen and my hall carpet there was much more dust and fibres/hair in the transparent plastic box at the rear of the machine than there would usually be in my old MIele bag ( although I do find machines lose some of their power and suction over time). The dust collector bob comes away easily. You just pull up the black plastic handle at the back and it detaches from the machine. My problem was emptying the box. There is a seperate bit that comes away with another handle that is attached tot he box. It fell off as I lifted the main box away and clattered on my stone floor- so next time I need to be careful. The main box empties from the bottom - there is an orange plastic and spring button that you press and the flap falls down and everything falls out. The aperture is wide and some dust went over my floor rather than in the bin. So like the Dyson it would be better to empty it outside the back door or you may end up like me having to suck some of the dirt back up. The flap also collects dust on its surface so when I pushed it back up into place some of that dust also plumed out.I have longevity concerns about and the plastic catch for the box and the main plastic handle for the dust box. There are instructions for using the vacuum and its care but I'm still a bit unclear about cleaning out the fine dirt filter. The transparent box is made of clear plastic that seems quite brittle and as someone who has cracked a Dyson cylinder and many food processor bowls on my hard kitchen floor I do wonder how long the part will last for me. There is also a small plastic button that the main steel pole clicks into place with that seems a bit precarious. All the attachments from my old TT500 fit with this cleaner so that is a bonus as i have a radiator cleaner attachment and the small and large turbo brushes. I have had the old Miele for 8 years but the catch for extending the poles broke a few years back and this year the metal wire along the back of the handle came loose and pierced my skin and the plastic around the handle where it fits into the hose also crumbled away. I don't feel Miele are quite as robust and long lasting as the marketing would have you believe (in my case at least).I like this cleaner but I don't love it. It is large and a bit unwieldy. I'm not totally au fait with the best techniwue for emptying it without getting covered in dust myself but I guess with practice I might learn to love it (will update). It also has a strange slot for holding the main poles - rather than a striaght slot to hold the pole upright at the side the slot is sideways so the poles stick out which would be okay if you want the machine to lie low in a very long cupboard but I would prefer it to be held upright to keep storage narrow and tall as i keep it in my boiler cupboard which is tall and thin.I have included some photos of the machine, the dust container, the flap that also gets dusty, the orange release switch for the dust container, the handle on the extra container at the side of the main dust container and a photo with the pole in the slot holder.

Being total Dyson converts, we were initially unsure about the design and power of this vacuum cleaner, expecting it to have a challenge to match up to the design and power of dyson units we’ve previously owned. On unboxing, Initial impressions were good, we are familiar with Miele as a well recognised, quality brand. The Miele Blizzard CX1 was very well packaged, the accessories came in a separate box within the larger package, all protected within plastic. Unpacking the vacuum cleaner unit revealed the unit to be substantial and sturdy, attractive design in red, black and clear plastic. The crevice and fabric attachment tools are securely stored at the back of the unit and the large, clear bin looks to hold plenty of debris. When assembling the hose and telescopic handle and heads, it was clear each component is robust and feels well made, the hose is large, long and flexible, the handle is designed well with an ergonomic grip. We’re tall people and the handle adjusted to a very long length at full extension, meaning it will be suitable for all heights or to reach well into inaccessible areas or high nooks and crannies. The unit comes with two different heads, Turbo Tech and Eco Tech Plus with a stiff brush head for brushing your carpet at the same time. After extended use, we realised the Turbo Tech brush was best for carpets, and the Eco Tech head for hard floors. One criticism at this point would be that the unit comes with minimal instructions, it wasn’t clear what the difference between the two heads was immediately, nor what the best use of the settings dials on top of the vacuum unit or on the front of the Turbo Tech head itself was. It wasn’t explained at any length what the Comfort Clean was either, though I’m sure a quick Google would have provided more information than the page or two in the booklet provided. On switching the unit on, it began on the highest setting, the turbo sound indicated that the unit’s suction would be excellent. Once placed on the carpet, the noise reduced dramatically and was surprisingly quiet. On full setting, the Turbo Tech head actually began lifting the carpet, such was the impressive power, immediately and visibly collecting debris from a carpet that was already ‘clean’!The comfort handle is cleverly designed, the telescopic tube can be disconnected to use the shorter top section connected to the hose and unit as a hand attachment for cars, sofas, curtains etc. The ‘comfort clean’ setting is clever too, press this button after a deep clean and the unit cleans itself ready for the next use - creating some clicking noises as it presumably de-clogs itself internally. Worries about it’s weight and manoeuvrability were unfounded, as despite its weight, it’s easy to move. The power cable is automatically adjusted as you move and is retracted by pressing the button on top, no tripping or flipping cables to get around, though I think an improvement would be to have a longer electric flex to move between rooms. With the highest suction settings, it’s quite hard to push as It’s so powerful it won’t let go of the carpet, but the power settings are fully adjustable so you can find the right level of suction for your flooring. It’s easy to store too, with a ‘parking’ mode to save space - stand the unit up and insert the head and tube into a slot at the bottom and it’ll stand discreetly in the corner of your hall or kitcheOverall, very impressed with its power, design and features. I think it will be really useful for a weekly / monthly deep clean, still keeping the cordless dyson for a quick whip through.

I got mine from JL, but I'm sure Amazon can send you one just fine.It works, very well.Previously I had used Dyson vacuum cleaners, upgrading every few years. My current Dyson's increasingly unsatisfactory performance at removing cat fur from the carpet left me looking at replacements. A suitable Dyson cost about as much as this Miele, and I found reviews saying "Miele superior to Dyson" while noone seemed to say "Dyson superior to Miele". You can add this review to those that say Miele is superior.I had vacuumed with the Dyson and got, I felt, quite a lot of dirt and cat hair from the carpet - yet some was still visible, embedded in the carpet pile.I then vacuumed shortly after with the newly-acquired Miele and rather more dirt came from the carpet, as well as the remaining cat hair. It was like re-enacting a daytime TV advertisement. It is actually fairly quiet, no way are you not going to notice it, but it's quieter than a Dyson and not nearly as noisy as something so effective ought to be. It has the sound and sensation of a loud, powerful motor that is very well enclosed for a civilised experience - like something German ought to sound, really. It upsets the cat a lot less than the Dyson did.The suction is very powerful - powerful enough that it can start to lift the pile of your carpet at full power. You can easily turn the suction down a little and it still works just as well on my carpets. Emptying the dust compartment is very easy, and it doesn't have a swinging dust compartment door that catches the dirt as it hangs down like some Dysons, nor do longer hairs tend to get caught up in the mechanism and not fall out like some Dysons. Instead, the dirt drops directly into your bin.The built-in storage locations for the small tools hold the tools securely. A small brush head is built in to the handle - you remove the brush head and rigid pipe, then slide the brush head along the handle until it is at the end of the nozzle. This is very clever design, but does make it difficult to use the brush head in places like the upper corners of a room. I've found a third-party nozzle that fits onto the end of the rigid hose section for upper corners - this is about the only functional deficiency on the Miele. The unit is supplied with two floor heads. One is a basic hard-or-soft floor head with a top-mounted control (activated by your foot) to change from hard to soft floor mode. The other is a very effective rotating brush head for soft surfaces and removing animal fur. There is, unfortunately, no handy place on the cleaner to store the floor head that is not in use. Given how well designed the rest of it is, I feel Miele missed a trick here.Despite the traditional look, there's no lack of modern engineering. Apart from the intense suction and effective dust separation, there is a fine dust filter which is supposed to clean itself most of the time. I am looking forward to the idea of not having to wash the filter frequently as I do with the Dyson.Overall, I'm very pleased with it and consider it worth the cost.Update, some months later: I've found a third-party soft bristle nozzle that fits onto the end of the rigid hose section for upper corners, so that helps. I'm still very pleased with it, and just threw away the Dyson I had kept as a spare vacuum cleaner. It did not spark joy, as the trendy people say these days.

Prologue:I bought a Dyson V10 because of the claim it is as good as a mains vacuum and indeed it is very good - for 7 minutes, then a 3.5hr charge. It is only capable of up to an hour use on lowest power setting with a tool that has no motor brush, ie a crevice tool. The battery got pretty hot with full power use. I'm not happy with hot lithium ion batteries inside my house!Speaking to Dyson about this they acknowledged the heat and said its not designed to have its battery quickly changed because 2 screws are needed to get access. So use cannot be extended.I was told it is not meant to be run on full power all the time either due to reliability issues.I had a real struggle with their support, they are terrible until you escalate your case. Then they are great.Luckily they have a trial period and pay the return shipping if you can take it to a post office or Parcelforce. So I went on the hunt for another vacuum and bought the Miele CX1 Cat and Dog.This is what I was after. It is a lot more powerful. As good as the Dyson V10 was (which is surprisingly good), this pulls even more from the carpet with the pet tool. The comments that it can lift the carpet on high power and it is a real sod to release one of the fine dust sections are true. The main dust compartment is very well designed and simple to detach and empty. It is pretty quiet for the power.Only one issue, a small price to pay for a great vacuum.A slight downside:For my other troubles (I wont go into it), Dyson let me keep a long bristle brush that is great for keyboard cleaning so I hollowed out the fittings and glued it up so a tube can go straight in ready for the Miele. But when the Miele arrived I found its tubes are much fatter and I will need to mod the brush again so it can be inserted into the Miele tube instead. Not so good if you want to use your old tools from other vacuums. But if you want this level of power you need this fat a tube or a ton more powerful/noisier motor.5 tools came with the Miele, some hidden away. There is a craftily hidden mini curtain etc cleaning tool on the rear, a shortish crevice tool on the rear, a multi floor/rug cleaning tool (handy for my rugs!), the very good pet tool and another craftily hidden brush tool hidden away slid back on the handle. But I would like longer bristles to fully clean a keyboard. Only the £20 Floorhead tool looks like it might work but the bristles still seem to be short and too fat to get in between keys.So I'll stick with my modded Dyson tool.It is just light enough (unheavy enough may be the better word :)) to hold while on the steps to a bunk bed where my cat has chosen to sleep, while vacuuming with the other hand. The handle on the hose makes this an easy task.Speaking of which my cat is long haired with really fine hair. Incredibly soft but an incredible pita to get out of carpets. This vacuum is up to the task. The handle on the hose is fantastic, why dont other vacuums have this? It makes everything so much easier.Overall a first class vacuum and even looks quite cool.

Don't let the fact this model is the reduced power (new EU regs) version of this vacuum. Boy can it suck, and clean. Bought after having had enough of a Dyson upright vacuum that should have been the bees knees but never quite managed to get dog hairs out of the carpet fully. Fine hairs, ground in, perhaps even brushed in by the Dyson and repeated foot traffic deep in the pile. Noticed one day when dragged foot across carpet how much the Dyson wasn't picking up. So, remembering an old Miele Cat & Dog I gave to my aunt some years ago before I defected to Dyson, I came back. And don't regret it!Stand out points compared to the old Miele (and ear splittingly loud old Dyson) is how quiet this is.Varies according to the power used. It can certainly suck - manage to pick up rugs and stick to some corners of the carpet with the right head and full suction on. So it doesn't lack power. It's doing an awesome job of getting up the dog hairs, and it seems the deep down ones too the Dyson failed to get. So THAT alone makes this a winner! It's easier to move around than an upright in my opinion, just following you around as you go, the cord isn't getting in your way (as it was with the upright vacuum for me), and not having to buy the vacuum bags now is a bonus. One reason I originally switched to Dyson years ago - bagless. Where this Miele isn't as good as Dyson is the shape of the dust canister, as emptying it into my bin is messier than I'm used to. You can't get the canister into my bin (it's a cylinder bin not a rectangle) so mostly I empty it into the compost bin outside. Great if you have one, but otherwise, if you own a cylinder bin you'll need an 'emptying' strategy so you don't end up with all that falls out your vacuum going back onto the floor! That niggle aside, it's the vacuum I should never have given up (the old Miele Cat and Dog) but probably better as it's quieter. Buy it!Update: December 2018: I have dropped a star for the fact that IF your pet has anything other than v short hair, the hairs will wind around the brush attachment until you cut them off with sharp scissors. Disadvantage of the hairs getting wound around the brushes is it also reduces the pick up effectiveness. So while this IS a better vacuum than my previous Dyson, I do have to cut the dog hairs from the brush head every couple of weeks. Not easy and to be honest not sure if there’s a way round this issue?

I owned the Miele C3 Total Solution (1200W model) for a number of years which was a delight. However I got tired of having to buy bags and filters all the time so decided it was time for change. Initially I fell for the Dyson stick hype and got a V8. Not a patch on Miele so that went back. I was delighted to see that Miele has finally decided to bring bagless vacuums in the market (better late than never) so decided to get the nice white CX1 Comfort Powerline. Although (thanks to those EU bureaucrats) this is a 900W model the suction power is still very good. Perhaps a very slight difference from the C3 1200W model but way more powerful than the Dyson V8. The white colour is very nice indeed. The remote buttons on the handle are quite a nice addition. In general the vacuum performed very well as you would expect from Miele products. When comparing to the C3 model (1200W version) the main things /compromises I have noticed are:1. The CX1 is larger than the bagged models. The rear end of the CX1 is almost double the height of the C3.2. The CX1 is also heavier than the C3.3. The CX1 is noisier than the C3 (about 1.5 times noisier). It is not a high pitched noise but rather a loud hum created by the cyclone. I guess the empty space inside the machine and the dust compartment acts as an amplifier of the sound.4. The CX1 has only 4 suction settings as opposed to 6 on the C3. Although that's fine because I never used all the 6 settings anyway.5. The wheels and suspension system on the CX1 are better and smoother than the C3.6. I dont find the handle as comfortable to use as that on the C3. The handle and the tube that connects it to the head are heavier than those on the C3.7. There are only 2 parking slots as opposed to 3 on the C3.8. When you stand the CX1 upright it rests on hard plastic legs which can end up scratching the floor. Rubberised legs would have been much better.9. The xl parquet head is pointless. The heads are also heavier than the C3 ones.10. Considering this is the top of the range it should have come with both the EcoTeq Plus head and the Turbobrush head for carpets. So, it's back to the drawing board for me (and hopefully for Miele too). I might get a cheap model and wait for Miele to come up with a more streamlined design or if the Dyson V8 drops in price I might get one of those instead.

This is a fantastic vacuum cleaner. The name Miele is held in very high regard, and with products like this it’s easy to see why. This is an exceptionally powerful cleaner, so much so that I often find myself having to turn the power down (which is easily done with the large dial on the back of the cleaner). It’s very quiet for such a powerful cleaner, but when you attach the turbo brush with its spinning beater, it does sound a little like it’s going to take off. Most importantly it leaves carpets looking like they’ve had a proper deep clean. I’ve genuinely not seen our bedroom carpet look so clean in years, and we don’t even let Molly our Catalan Sheepdog Cross up there. The turbo brush is the most effective against dog hair and makes light work of even Molly’s favourite haunts. Additionally you also get a more traditional universal floor brush, which is quieter and very good for general use. The crevice and upholstery tools are stored handily at the back of the unit, but when you remove the suction tube from the (very comfortable) handle, there’s also a little retractable brush which is perfect for skirting boards - a nice touch. The unit itself is also easy to pull along, and it doesn’t topple over like other vacuums that I’ve had in the past. There’s a nice big handle to lift it by, and It also stands on its end which is useful when you’re doing the stairs. The dust container has a small recessed handle which makes it easy to remove and carry. A simple click of the orange button and the bottom of the dust container opens fully allowing the dust and dirt to tip out without you getting covered in the stuff. It’s easy to see how effective a cleaner this is, the proof is right there in your bin. The fine dust filter even has it’s own cleaning system which you can perform manually by pushing the Clean button on the back of the vacuum (or the cleaner will perform it automatically at certain levels). It clicks away for about 20 seconds and then it’s ready to go again.Vacuuming is never going to make it onto my list of favourite things, but this Miele Blizzard CX1 makes very light work of an unpleasant task. It’s well made, powerful and easy to use - and I was impressed by some of its clever design choices.

In all but one aspect the Miele is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used and far superior to the Dyson animal ball. However for animal lovers the Dyson is better at picking up lots of pet hair and it has a better set of cleaning functions and tools. Don’t get me wrong the Miele is still good at cleaning and if I didn't have two hairy and smelly Retrievers I would throw the Dyson away because I hate using it. So I fully recommend the Miele for those without heavy duty pets, but I think it can easily deal with a small dog or a couple of cats.ProsBuild quality. Extremely good and much better than a Dyson.Small footprint compared to the Dyson and the flexible pipe is smaller and more flexiblemeaning it takes up less storage space than the Dyson.Glides around behind you whereas the Dyson ball needs to be dragged around.Easy on stairs as it can be used upright and sits on most stairs. The Dyson has to be held whilst cleaning stairs.Has a life-time Hepa filter.Stores its accessories on the main body of the cleaner whereas the Dyson has them attached to the main pipe which makes the Dyson more fiddly to use.Simple and clean emptying system. The Dyson emptying mechanism is unreliable and messy.Light to carry. The Dyson feels much bulkier and is heavy to use.Quiet compared to the Dyson.Comes with turbo brush and multi-surface head.Multi-surface head is gentle on wooden floors. The wheels on the Dyson head are hard and it feels like it could scratch a wooden floor (although it hasn't done so).ConsThe Miele's suction is too powerful and unlike the Dyson it doesn't have an adjustable air outlet on the pipe to easily reduce the suction. This means you have to keep adjusting the dial on the body and the air outlet on the turbo brush head and this is a pain. There is no specialised pet hair attachment, which is supplied with the Dyson and is very good for dog beds. The Miele is a very good cleaner, but it is not as effective as the Dyson Animal Ball when is comes to removing lots of pet hair from carpets.Expensive, but better value than a Dyson.

The joy of owning Miele is that no matter which product you buy, they are always built to the highest standard and level of performance. This vacuum cleaner is no exception. Our house is usually kept clean and tidy with the aid of a Vax cylinder vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming again with the Miele has definitely made our carpets visibly cleaner. The accessories worked very well on stairs, skirting boards and in the corners of the ceilings to remove cobwebs. It is great that the crevice and upholstery nozzles clip into the back of the machine although that leaves the dusting brush all by itself! The controls are very easy to use. Everything just works with a satisfying click, from adjusting the length of the telescopic suction tube to changing the floor head from carpet to hard floor settings. Thanks to EU regulations, Miele have reduce the electricity consumption on this new model from 1200 W to 890W and ensured that the noise output is 79 dB, both below the 900 W and 80 dB thresholds. In practice this means that you can vacuum and carry out a conversation whilst the EU save enough electricity to meet the residential requirement of Belgium. The power output of this vacuum cleaner is definitely sufficient and definitely knock the spots off the Vax.The manual is also well written, in very clear English, that describes exactly how to get the most out of your machine. Interestingly, it also states that the vacuum cleaner is intended for use at altitudes of up to 4000 m above sea level. There are only 2 large cities in the world that are above 4000 m (El Alto and Potosí, both in Bolivia) and not something that we have to worry about in Europe.Pet owners would be better served by the Cat and Dog model that has a turbo brush head: Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat and Dog Powerline Vacuum Cleaner, 2 Litre, 890 W although those who acquire a pet later in life can buy a turbo brush head as an accessory for this model. Turbo brush STB205-3, as part of a wide range of accessories produced by Miele.

It's impossible to speak highly enough of Miele vacuum cleaners, in my experience. We'd previously used a very well-known brand of bagless vacuum; on recommendation we replaced it with a Miele and never looked back. This Miele is different to our old one in that it is the first bagless one we have had; most Miele vacuums have bags, so this is a departure. The obvious plus point of this vacuum over any other make we have tried is that it is VERY powerful - so much so that you have to use it on of the lower power settings if vacuuming on thick carpet, otherwise it's hard to actually move the head across the carpet as the suction is so great. It really is amazing how powerful this vacuum is - whilst somehow being quieter than other vacuums. We've found out our old upright cleaner by a well-known British inventor and give this a go to compare the two; the difference is extraordinary -- the Miele just a million times better (or should that be 'a Mielieion times better'?!?). It's quite amazing that this is the case even given the reduced wattage of this version compared to older version (in line with the recent limits placed by the EU of the power output of vacuum cleaners),As mentioned above, this Miele is bag-free, and this is handled with the efficiency we would expect from this manufacturer. Whilst it makes the vacuum a bit heavy than previous bagless models, it's still easy to manage; it's simple to change the reservoir where waste collects, and the filter is one that never needs replacing, apparently. Time will tell whether this proves a weak point, but it is meant to be self-cleaning, so even that is a great thing. As ever, I firmly believe that Miele vacuums can't be beaten. This one has huge benefits in being bagless (the long-term cost of ownership is less, and there's no hassle of having to order consumables), and if anything it seems more powerful than bagless models. I can't speak highly enough of this, and would give it six stars if I could. Superb.

I have been a Miele owner for over a decade and thought it was time to go bagless. I had a go at this hoover and I cannot get over its suction power. I had seen in other reviews that it was strong enough to actually pull up carpet and I can corroborate. So I do need to be careful with the edges of some of the older carpet but the fact of the matter is that this hoover generates some serious suction. A few minor niggles are that it creates dust strings. It’s clearly bringing up dust that hasn’t been removed over the years and creates strings of dust. To the extent that I have to suck these up directly by detaching the pipe and using the hand intake. However,as I have been using this new hoover more often this has been less of an issue of late. The other thing to be mindful of is that its power does make it quite a workout to push the head across carpet and I say this as a 6’5” man. But with the handy thumb controls, if it is getting tough to push then you can easily reduce power at the touch of a button. One last niggle is that the small brush head that comes with it does not click in anywhere with the other two tools. Personally, not such an issue as I carry this in my pocket as I hoover but worth bearing in mind.Emptying the dust bin is easy. Yes, it will need periodical cleaning but any appliance needs general upkeep. The other great thing is that on those occasions when you hoover up something you hadn’t intended it is visible and more easily retrievable than a bagged hoover. It is slightly more bulky than my last Cat and Dog but still just about fits in the same cupboard. Sitting it on the stairs as you hoover can be a bit precarious. As for its weight, while I haven’t looked up the actual weight of this and my old machine, this does feel lighter.I only hope that it retains its suction because if it does then this is a seriously good piece of kit.

This is a quality piece of kit - right from the clever way they've designed the box so it's easy to get out. The vacuum is simple to use and does a good job. Great for hard floors, and cleaning the car (even better once you've bought a proper car accessory kit), but I prefer our upright (Vax) for carpets & mats. That said, it's got a few issues:1) Hose is too short (over-stretches it when using on coving/ceiling; won't reach top stair when vacuum at the bottom)2) Mini-brush/duster attachment is supplied loose as there is no storage space on the vacuum (crevice and upholstery attachments are, however, both stored onboard)3) Vacuum is too big to fit/balance on a normal size stair if you need to (e.g.if trying to avoid buying the extension hose so you can comfortably reach that top stair)4) Comes with two main attachments: didn't want the XL parquet tool, but we wanted the handle-based controls, so had to be the Comfort model. Would be better to have choice of attachment or simply lower the price5) With the Comfort model the slider on the hose to reduce suction power is missing (same with the model with the dust/detailing brush built into the handle). Even on the lowest power setting on the vacuum, I still have to put my foot on our light feet-wipe mats, which were previously vacuumed fine by our upright vacuum (the weight of the upright holding the mat in place).I therefore shelled out £20 and bought the hose extension from Miele directly (cheaper than Amazon!). Now, no problem cleaning stairs and ceilings. I also bought a (Spares2Go) car kit, which came with a turbo-brush for another £20. Beauty was there was space for that loose dusting brush attachment in the case the car kit came in.It's all fab now I've bought the hose extension, but Miele really should supply a 'proper' length hose in the first place. Hence 1 star knocked off.

This is a strong and powerful cleaner. It is easy to assemble and the instruction book is clear with helpful diagrams. In addition to the standard carpet cleaning head it has a crevice tool, a dusting tool and an upholstery tool. I don’t think you really should need more if the suction is good – and it is good. In fact, on some of my carpets I had to reduce its power somewhat, but it is very easy to do, so no problem.Emptying it is easy too. The dust compartment just unclips. It is transparent so you can see when it needs emptying, however it is larger than those in most vacuum cleaners I have used recently, so you do not have to empty it very often. The machine has castors so even though it is quite big (10kg)it is easy to manoeuvre. Although very powerful, Miele has complied with EU regulations and has reduced the wattage of the engine to 890. It is also quieter than most comparable machines.I tested it very thoroughly on a couple of really filthy carpets. (I have recently moved house and not all the carpets have recovered from people with filthy boots traipsing all over them. Also I have three cats.) It made short work of the filth and returned the carpets to pristine in a very short time.On the whole I am very pleased with this machine. My one quibble is that there are storage spaces on the machine for the crevice tool and the upholstery tool, but not for the dusting tool. This is an irritant but not a deal breaker, but it makes one wonder why such efficient designers could not have solved this problem. It’s not cheap, but it is (apart from the quibble above) a beautifully designed robust machine that works well and will give good service for a long time. I think it is worth the money.

Taking it out of he box, it immediately seems better quality than the usual much cheaper vacuum cleaners. Putting it all together only took a few minutes, then I pressed the on switch. Wow. This is the most powerful cleaner we've had, by far. So much so, that I had to turn the power down one level from the top as I was worried it might pull the carpet off the edgings. Even on the second highest setting, it's quite a push to move it along carpets as it sticks to them, sucking like crazy. There's a bigger rotary brush attachment that might make that job easier, but I'm so impressed by the standard head that I haven't used that yet.On rugs, I usually have to put my foot near the nozzle so that it lets go,otherwise it lifts them off the floor. As for cleaning, as you'd expect, it does that really well, being so powerful. There's a few different attachments, and I found the upholstery one to be good for cleaning the stair carpet, much faster than the basic nozzle I used before.Having a cat, we found the upholstery brush to do a very good job of removing hairs from chairs. I also like the way the standard head connection can tilt sideways, meaning that you can get right under chairs and couches, which was something we could never do in-situ before.Emptying it is very easy, simply pulling out a handle in the base then pulling out the dust compartment. It stays sealed until you open it inside a bin, so no dust floating around. The base unit isn't particularly light, but it lies on four wheels and is easily pulled around. As a cleaner, it's the best we've had, but you may need to dial down the power even more if you don't like to have a bit of a wrestle to move it along.

From the highly-regarded German company Miele, this 'Miele Blizzard Cx1 Powerline Vacuum Cleaner, 2 Litre, 890 W' is proving to live up to the hype. First impressions were that it was rather heavy and unwieldy, although once out of the box this became much less apparent as it has four wheels which make moving it around easy, and there is also a well-designed carry handle for if you need to go up stairs. Our model is a blue shade, which I can't say I love, to be honest, but in my opinion the function of a vacuum cleaner is far far more important than the appearance, and it lives in a cupboard anyway! The vacuum cleaner was easy to assemble and intuitive to use, with a rotary dial for adjusting power levels to suit the surface being cleaned. The highest level has proved powerful enough to lift rugs, and also remove vast amounts of collie dog hair from them. There is also an adjustment button on the handle, which saves one from having to bend down to the machine itself when in use. There is a filter-cleaning feature built into it, which is brilliant, I'm not sure how it works but it automatically unclogs them. The appliance has a long power cord so can reach quite far without needing to be moved to a different electric socket, and it has a large capacity 2 litre dust bin, which swings open to empty (supposedly without getting loads of dust in your face, although I have yet to master this!).The obvious benchmark to compare a vacuum cleaner against these days is a Dyson, and while this isn't quite at that level it is pretty close, and the self-cleaning filter feature is fab. Good machine.
