This jacket was exactly what I was hoping for. Tested in a couple days of Bay Area storms, it provided perfect protection from the rain, with its well-fitting hood and double layered shell. It has two zippered side pockets and two pit zips, the latter providing a bit of air flow in warmer weather. This jacket is not meant to provide warmth; one must wear layers underneath for that. But because it cuts the wind as well as sealing out rain, it actually does serve to keep out a little cold. The jacket will serve in fall and a rainy summer. I discovered, too, a little tab in the left pocket, so found that the whole jacket will pack into that pocket, which has a double-sided zipper,a nice feature.I ordered both a large and medium, as I have worn both in the past. The large was too big, so I sent it back. The medium fits nicely and still allows a couple layers underneath comfortably.I ordered the red color, so that "they can find the body" out on the trail, as I jokingly told my wife. Truly the color is beautiful, and I'm the only person in San Francisco who isn't wearing all black.Since buying this jacket, I have found Costco selling a two-layered rain shell for one-third the price I paid for this Marmot. But I suspect, hopefully correctly, that my jacket is rather more breathe-able, so I won't be sweating in humid, rainy weather in Alaska or Florida.I'm very pleased with this purchase.

My husband received this for Christmas. I have the female version already from Marmot. I believe I've owned it for almost 8 years. It looks brand new. He needed a rain shell, so I ordered a this one since I trust the brand and quality. These rain shells are amazing. I've owned some other brands, and Marmot has been the best so far. He is currently using it almost everyday as we are having a lot of rain in Nor Cal right now. Here are my favorite features:1. Thick zipper with Velcro feature over the zipper. Looks much nicer than just zipping it up and more secure.2. Perfect balance between a light weight shell (you can wear your hoodie or work sweater under it)and not too flimsy (I've worn it a ton with a sheet shirt underneath hiking and it provides a bit of warmth)3. Not flimsy or easily wrinkled. You can stuff this jacket in a backpack and pull it out, smooth it real quick, and wear it into work, etc. without it being super wrinkly.4. Great hood. Offers coverage, no issues.I would recommend this jacket to anyone and would buy it as a gift for more people, if I had a ton of money. :) Worth the price!!!

This is my 4th PreCip Jacket in 12 years...what can say......well the fit is a little closer that the last one of 4 years ago but not too much and is still about right for the size (large - I'm 6'2" 45 inch chest and 38 winch waist).Performance feel and toughness is great and it packs down to very little and weighs next to nothing.Fit is good benefiting from a good usable hoot and angel wing arm movement with just the right length in the sleeve.Performance and feel have improved over previous versions so this t one is even better that the earlier models. The venting options (pockets and pit zips make it great for a cycle touring jacket as you can always get good airflow.I have a full spec Eventmountaineering jacket for Winter and the Alps but for everything else this is my go to jacket.I've tried the North Face, Patagonia and Montane equivalent jackets over the years but this one always wins out over the rest in terms of extended use performance and usability.Cant recommend it enough.

My old Marmot jacket is 20 years old and the inside lining, waterproofing is falling off. I've travelled the world with it, but have finally had to move on.I'm 5' 10", 170 # and this large fits right for me. I simply love it Comfortable, protective, and I think stylish, I just came back from 3 weeks in Germany and Italy facing rain, wind and shine and cold, drafty restaurants and airplanes, and it was perfect. The hood nicely rolls away out of sight in the collar. You can zip open under both arms for air. Front zipper you can cover. Velcro the cuffs. It also wears in length down into my upper thigh, and I really like how you can zip up the front collar to completely enclose your neck, especially, when air-con blows down on you.I think black looks good; it definitely worked for springtime in Europe. My old one was green which I really liked, but the black looks a tad more formal. Lightweight easy to fold up- I pack it in a zip lock bag because I like to travel carry-on light.

I tried several raincoats over the years, and this is one of my favourites. In my opinion this is the best 2,5 layer shell on the market. I use it for almost 2 years, and it never let me down. I always carry with me in my backpack, I wear it at festivals, trips, or while I'm going to the school or anywhere in the city. The DWR wore out during the years but still holds the water really well! It never, ever leaked, even at the wettest conditions. It keeps me dry and warm. The breathability is fantastic, however a 3 layer Gore-Tex does a better job of course, but it's also much more expensive. I bought one size bigger, because I like when the length of the jacket is a bit longer, and covers more, but it did not make it baggy, it has a fantastic fit. You can pack it into its own pocket, however the XXL packs a little big. If you need the perfect lightweight rain jacket, don't search more, you found it! It's called Marmot Precip.

I purchased this at a clearance price. I recommend buying a size up from what is shown on the model in the promotional video. I am similar height and weight to the model (6'0", 180 lbs, & 34/35" arm length), and the large fits me well. The medium, as worn by the model, would be too tight and limit flexibility for wearing layers under the coat. One other minor issue is that the under-arm vent zippers easily catch on the water-proof membrane because it isn't perfectly centered on the zippers. I won't use this feature much but had I paid full price for the coat this would have been tough to accept. The coat is relatively light-weight for backpacking and the hood is has good over-hang, is adjustable, and can be tucked away in the colour...all features which aren't always offered with light-weight rain jackets.

Got to use these this weekend watching a soccer game in a consistent, cold rain. Jacket worked great, and even while sitting down did not bleed through at all. Was able to wear over my sweatshirt... They are not insulated (what I wanted) so should also work in warmer weather. Paired with the black Precip pants kept me 100% dry. Very good hood design that folds under collar....didn't use an umbrella. Again, it was about 48 degrees and windy so need sweatshirts under for insulation. I bought specifically to have in car to watch kids play sports, and they worked and fit perfectly, and expect same in warmer weather too. 6"6", 250#, and both jacket and pants in XXL fit great, with or without sweats under...Jacket is nice and light as a windstopper too. Very happy with first experiences.

This jacket STOPS rain. It has side pockets that easily hold 750ml bottles, and pit zips for venting. I do have a couple of quibbles, though:Arm Size ... VERY tight. If you plan on wearing ANY kind of insulating layer, order UP size. The sleeves are simply too snug. I've got good-sized, non-Popeye arms, but an END light fleece turns this into a compression garment.Pockets .. The mesh pockets are generius, but it would've been nice if the pocket liner bottoms were racked to the hem, forming inner map pockets.Zip Pulls ... Make your own fobs. Good luck finding the pocket and pit zip pulls! :-)Once you've got the sizing right ... I'm 5'6", 166 ... you'll love it.I'm getting an XL in addition because I can't be bothered with a "tailored fit" over gleece, etc.

For the money, this an excellent name brand option. The value is in the features that this jacket offers; stuffs into own pocket, roll up hood into collar, and pit zippers.I purchased this jacket approx. 2 and half years ago. Since then, the interior lining has started to degrade. Key areas of degrading are around the belt line (where the hip straps of a backpack sit), the arm pits, and collar. This is normal wear and tear, but I am very demanding of my equipment. I thought it would have survived longer. The seems and zippers had no issues. For the everday individual, this is an excellent choice. Me personally, I may step up to a more rugged and robust option that Marmot offers.

Like so many garment today, I expected that a large would be good and roomy. It is not. However, I got away just fine with the smaller size in Ireland recently. Bought it for that very trip. I like it very much, by and large (no pun intended), but it could be a bit bigger. The color is a bit like Army olive drab, but I like it because it's not too bright. My wife wondered why I had spent $100 for what she said felt like a garbage bag. It is kind of crinkly, but it keeps the moisture out and you don't sweat like you're working out. Try out your basic windbreaker: it won't keep you dry and you'll sweat a lot on the part of your body that the jacket covers.

This is my first rain shell, but my impressions are great. I am 6'1" and 200lbs. I have a slender build and the large fit perfectly. Slightly baggy so I can easily layer beneath it. I just got back from a week in Canada and had the pleasure of using the Precip jacket twice. I used it on the first morning of a canoe camping trip in Algonquin Park. It was about 50 degrees and a thick foggy mist settled over the lake for the first day. I used this and a long sleeve base layer and I was warm and dry. My second opportunity was at Niagara Falls. I wore it while doing some long exposure shots of the falls at night. Definitely kept the mist off of me and dry.

Great product for what it is. And what it is, is a waterproof skin, no insulation, not breathable, super-light weight and extremely well made. The lack of a lining looked a little tacky at first, and I thought I'd never use this jacket, but wow was I wrong! I have a splendid North Face shell parka in nearly bulletproof Gore-Tex and ripstop, but that's a lot of jacket to lug around. And this one isn't. Lightweight it's super for medium use -- probably more than it's designed for. Venting is well placed and well sewed. Hood fits nearly perfectly with a hat. The internal pockets are mesh pouches and I wish they were better tacked down.

I bought this for some days out in the Black Mountains. On appearance it looks very durable. It is not the lightest but the extra weight is worth it's weight in gold. In fact it's much cheaper than ultra lights which from my experience don't perform so well. It blocked strong cold gusts completely. I didn't believe it would be breathable as nothing is particularly, but I was quite surprised that the inside was completely dry when I took it off. All be it in cold weather, but I was running and working up a sweat, so performance in my opinion is excellent. I would buy the same again and rather compromise on weight on other kit.

I haven't run it through the wringer yet, but it has performed great from rain storms on campus to downpours while camping in Kentucky. It breathes well (for a rain jacket), and looks pretty nice. It packs down to a decent size, not great but works well enough for me. One thing that bothered me was the waist adjustment was only on one side, but it is trivial since if you adjust it before hand you can even it out in a few seconds. The best feature about it is the little bit of fleece protecting the zipper on the collar for a little bit of added comfort- in the mountains, little things like that make all the difference...

This is not the most sweat free jacket I've ever owned, but for the price, it is very light and very waterproof. I'm reaaly, very impressed with it. It has zip up pockets and adjustable hood, cuffs and wasteband, plus vented armpits. It has just seen me through the wettest week in Scotland I've ever experienced with driving hail snow and rain with 70+ mph winds driving said weather sideways. The jacket stood up to the test admirably, not letting in any water and wind from the outside, keeping me warm dry and cozy.In short a superb lightweight waterproof jacket, that I'd definitely buy again.
