Yeah - it is awesome. It's made exactly both as expected AND as desired. This is made for the trail and undoubtedly most at home in the backcountry. It's durable, lightweight, and fits with versatility in mind. What do I mean by that? Well, a shell jacket is great for keeping you dry, but that's only half the equation. Good ones, like this, are made a little on the large fit size to do what I do: layer. In my case, on chilly days in the backcountry I wear this with the Marmot Featherless Hybrid Jacket underneath, so I get insulation and water control. Certainly the jacket works on its own, though be aware that doing it is self limiting (in other words, works for warmer days and not chilly rainy days)and I think flies in the overall design and intended use of the jacket. Sleeve length is appropriate to keep the cuffs of the inner layering dry while wearing a pack, and the hang of the jacket is right where it should be. This is athletic fit so be aware.Construction is, well, bulletproof. Not literally, but yeah it's durable. Fit is intended to accommodate layering but even given that there's no constriction and integrates very nicely into my load. It's light and packs down so it takes very little precious space in the pack. I have to emphasize that: The shell packs down inside the hood and with a stuff sack gets VERY small. The hood especially impresses me - no claustrophobia for me when deployed. The zippers are quality - started out a little tight, but loosened up after a couple of weeks. Lastly, the shell material is wonderful...no loud rustling when I'm moving around. There is nothing I don't like about this jacket. In a situation where I'm hours from shelter, it keeps me and my hybrid jacket dry, and therefore warm. It's not going to fall apart after use either...solid and dependable. I'm a fan and this is a part of my core loadout for even day hikes. A fantastic shell jacket.

Let’s start with the brand. Marmot is a very reputable brand for sport outwears. It was funded in 1974 by mountain climbers and were the first ones to use the Gore-Tex Technology. The Marmot Men’s Knife Edge Jacket is basically a windproof/waterproof jacket. Here is what I like about it:- Very light- Gore-Tex technology makes it wind and waterproof and yet allows it to breathe. Usually, rain jackets are often protecting you fairly well from the rain yet end up making you soaked inside because of your sweat not having room to evaporate. This is less the case with this jacket, thanks to the breathability.- Seam taped for increased water protection.- Pockets with water resistant zippers.- Easy carewith Machine wash at warm temperatures (105 F)- Limited lifetime guarantee- Nice looks- Comfortable- Covers well.- Armpit opening- 3 zipped pockets. Here is what I like less about it:- Large size is not large enough for me. It fits me but I am a bit tight if I try wearing it above my hiking light jacket.- Zipper gets stuck at throat level with one hand. I need to use both hands to zip it entirely.- No inside pocket.- Expensive. In conclusion:I think that large is good if you are not wearing any jacket under it, yet, I like to wear one under these windbreakers so If you are like me, I would advise you to go for one size extra to allow for a jacket under without being too tight. I can only recommend it for people with either large wallets or being outdoors very often (and under rain). If you correspond to that description, this is a really great buy.4 stars.

It’s been raining for weeks down here in the south so testing this jacket was well timed.Initial impressions:I was struck by how light this jacket is. I was expecting more with the lining as I though this would be similar to my REI jacket I’ve been using. It’s pretty thin. Also, you immediately noticed the sealed zippers and seams which is a nice touch for when it really comes down.Fit:I wear a large in just about everything including my jacket so I thought this would be a good fit. Ironically, I feel it is a little larger than most larges. Specifically i think the arms are much longer than my other long jackets. I get that it’s not a tailored experience when it comes to jackets but these were noticeably longer. Also,I’m deducting a star because the zipper ALWAYS got stuck as I zipped past the midway point. It was here that the lining of the jacket pushed outwards to support the hood and would always get in the way of the zipper and bind. Same spot every time....right about chest level. You could always hold it out of the way and continue to zip, but that seems unnecessary for a nice jacket like this.Waterproof:Yes, it’ll stop most. My REI jacket (which is also GoreTex) will eventually allow some soakage through the seams when I’ve been standing on the sidelines of a soccer game getting drenched. This Marmot jacket didn’t exhibit any of those traits and I attribute it to the really well sealed seams and zippers.Bottom line:Great light jacket that will keep you dry once you get over the bunching of the zipper in the chest area.

This is a hooded rain jacket with pockets. The fabric is 100% polyester, and the jacket is unlined. The seams are sealed. The jacket has 3 zippered pockets, 2 at the waist and 1 on the left side of the chest. The pockets are lined with mesh. The hood has a drawstring in back. There are also drawstrings along the bottom hem. The sleeves do not have elastics but are tightened with Velcro strips. The zippers are sealed and the main zipper top is nicely finished so that it doesn’t dig into your chin. The Marmot logo appears over the left chest pocket. A small reflective element appears on the back near the top; this element is hidden when the hood is down. The garment was made in Vietnam.I like the light weight of this jacket.I also like the way it breathes, even though it is fully waterproof. I’m not so sure about the color—a pure black jacket with few, if any, visible reflective elements is probably not a great choice to wear on a dark, rainy night. But this model doesn’t come in high viz yellow, so I guess I’ll have to live with the color. The mesh pocket linings are another issue—you definitely don’t want to carry keys or any other pointy items in these pockets or they will catch on the pocket linings and tear the linings. But yes, indeed, this jacket is fully waterproof and makes a decent windshell if you get a size up so you can wear warm layers underneath. Overall, this is a very dry jacket to wear on a wet day; just remember that it will be hard to see at night.

As advertised, this is both rain and windproof. Which makes sense given the 3-layer Gore-Tex material in use here. If you've used it before, you'll be familiar with how it feels. On the outside, it's got a softer-than-usual feel. Inside has a softer layer as well, so it doesn't irritate or become uncomfortable over time.Otherwise as the material is mostly Gore-Tex, it still feels mostly like a traditional rain jacket. You'll hear noticeable fabric noise when moving around. It's about average for this type of jacket. There are 3 outside zipper pockets. They've average size, should fit most phones, keys, etc. The two lower pockets for your hands are a bit higher than usual, but still comfortable for hands to stay inside. No interior pockets. The hood doesn't have a strap, but if you zip all the way up, it will cover almost a 1/3 of your face. There is a lower pull strap to tighten up around your waist. And there is a velcro flap around your wrists to tighten up. If you don't use this, you may find the sleeves appear too long.In use, the jacket absolutely delivers. Easily blocking all want and heavy rain. It's a bit pricey and you can generally get the job done with something cheaper. But it's the smaller attention to details, better materials, and real-world performance, that make it worth it when you want the best.

This Marnot Knife Edge jacket is like having a small shelter with you wherever you go. Assuming that you have the lower half of your body equally covered, the jacket stops wind, rain, sleet, snow and everything in-between. It's the best cover from the absolutely worst elements. The Gore-Tex fabric is one of the strongest materials you will find in an article of clothing. I don't know of any fabric that resists tearing better than it does and it's as close to waterproof as you would want to wear while on land. In fact, the only real problem with Gore-Tex to speak of is that it sometimes does TOO good of a job of blocking water in that it does not really breathe at all and can trap perspiration from getting out. This has to be managed by wearing the appropriate clothing underneath.Besides the fabric, the workmanship making this jacket is first rate. It's extremely solidly made compared to any type of clothing and should last for years if not decades if taken care of properly. In addition to the outdoors, the jacket looks and feels great around town as well. It's a very versatile and attractive jacket.

I got a chance to put this coat to test yesterday. The temperature was in the upper 30s (F) and the windchill in the upper 20s. It was also very windy. I was outside helping move furniture around. This jacket completely blocked any wind and kept me very comfortable temperature wise. The jacket worked exactly like I had hoped.Other then that I've worn this jacket on much warmer days and less wind and it was equally comfortable. It's very light and thin (in a good way) so it has never made me feel too warm. It seems to be very efficient on letting any heat out so you stay very comfortable. When I first put the jacket on, it felt a little stiff and crinkly but that went away after a full days wearing. The only other strange thing is the locations of the front pockets. They are a little higher than any of my other jackets, so it's taken some getting used to.This jacket is perfect for my use case. It's great on coldish windy days and normal northeast fall/spring days. I'd highly recommend if you're looking for a jacket with those same qualities.

This new Marmot Knife Edge jacket replaces/supplements a Marmot Speed Light that has served me well for many years of heavy use. The old jacket has been patched a number of times and is a bit on the heavy side. This new jacket is perfect for lighter trips and warmer weather.Owing to the excellent GoreTex Pac Lite fabric, this new Knife Edge jacket comes in noticeably lighter and packs down much smaller than my old one while retaining all of the waterproofing and breathability. The Knife Edge fits true to size, with a trim but not overly slim fit. If you plan to layer it over much more than a base and mid-layer, I would go a size up (especially for skiing). If you plan to use it mostly in warmer weather,I would order true to size. The construction is as sturdy as you would expect, right down to the waterproof zippers. The drawcords, adjustable hood, and pit zips all add to the jackets functionality and work exactly as intended.

The Marmot Men's Knife Edge Jacket is a very nice jacket that will keep you dry. I have had a number of GoreTex jackets over the years with some being stiff and crinkly. The Knife Edge jacket is neither. The material is soft and moves with you well. I wore the jacket out in the rain the day I received it and found that water beads up on it like rain on a freshly waxed car. I don’t know how long this effect will last, but no water got through which is perfect. The jacket is also very light which makes it very packable.I normally wear a large size jacket in other brands such as The North Face and the Kife Edge in large fit me perfectly. The jacket length and arm length were spot on.There are hand pockets on the sides of the jacket and a pocket on the chest. All of the zippers seal to keep water out.Overall, I am very pleased with this jacket when I pair it with a 200 weight fleece or by itself.

I'm always on the lookout for better jackets that can withstand torrential rain but aren't too heavy. With the bizarre weather that now seems to be the norm in the Northeast, a jacket like this is a must. The jacket is made to withstand serious weather while at the same time something you can wad up and pack in a backpack, which is how I like it. The pockets are a mesh, which shows you how serious the design is about being waterproof. Every seam and even the zippers are designed this way. It's a little bulkier than you might expect, but as other reviewers have pointed out this is a feature not a bug -- it's meant for additional layers underneath or using the velcro straps to further tighten thejacket around your wrists for additional protection.I replaced my older shell-type jackets with this one, which is the highest compliment I can give.

This jacket in size Large, fits my 6’, 150LBS, slim, long-limbed husband excellent. The jacket is slightly slim-fit so if you are large around the middle, it may be tight. There is plenty of length in the arms & the cuffs have Velcro straps to make them tight to keep water out. The zippers all move smoothly & have rubber seals. The hood zips up over the chin & has an elastic pull to cinch (at the back). The hood also has a flexible but slightly stiff visor to keep rain off the face. There is no lining in the jacket. He wore it in the rain yesterday & stayed dry.The jacket looks good enough to wear in town & will be excellent for hiking. It is well made, as we expect from Marmot.

This is a well made jacket that is true to size. The Goretex fabric keeps you dry without letting condensation build up inside. The pockets are set a bit high which at first felt weird, but it turns out they keep your arms and shoulders more comfortable when you are carrying a pack. The zippers work well and are waterproof. The hood zips into the collar, and you can fold the jacket really small and stuff it in as well for packing. I haven't done that because I don't want to get it all creased. I'll probably just wear it. I received this in black, as a review product. That's my only complaint. I'd prefer it in another color to wear in the woods, and on sunny days.

I live in Seattle, so I'm used to being caught in the rain. I've had many rain jackets over the years, but none of them worked as well as the Marmont Knife Edge. How well does it work at keeping you dry? I initially put on the jacket, and then ran the kitchen sink's water over my arm. Like real gortex, not a blend, the water simply slid off the surface. It doesn't pool, or soak, it rolls off like quick silver. The large is large and is a little bit big on me. Most larges fit well, so I would say that this lives up to it's sizing chart. This is a pricey jacket, but it lives up to it's price. Plus it's light weight, so it can be worn over just about anything.

I am a member of a local hill walking group on the West Coast of Scotland and one thing you need is water proof clothing. This jacket has been put to the test with some pretty extreme weather and past with flying colours. My only complaint is that the hood only has a draw string at the back, I don’t have a particularly big head so some side ones would have been good. I get round this problem by wearing a base ball cap inside the hood. But other than that it is good value for money in my opinion.

I have a few Goretex jackets, from Salewa, North Face, or Columbia. But this light Marmot jacket is my favorite. The quality is superb, the look is amazing. Simple and minimalistic. Works in heavy rain, as well as my TNF Apex 2 and, is so much lighter. After I got it I ordered also Marmot pants from the same series and some other rain jackets for kids. Marmot you are doing great products, I was a TNF fan for years but you are my No. 1!
