Love it.Very quiet compared to almost every other vacuum cleaner I've used, except my huge expensive mains-powered Bosch ProSilence, which I'll now be selling since I like this one so much, and I anyways want to move into a tiny house on wheels where there's no space for a huge vacuum cleaner.Sucks well. It's fairly weak compared to a mains device, so don't expect it to remove all the pet hairs that are stuck really well onto a fabric, or pull dirt out from the inside of a rug, but for hard floors or removing dirt from the top of the rug, this works great. Able to pick up huge amounts of dirt very quickly, until it's full of course.Has a small compartment, but it's so easy to empty that it doesn't bother me.SO much more convenient than a huge vacuum that I have to drag behind me! This little thing is so dang easy to use!Has a trigger rather than an on-off button like most others, which I love. So easy, and helps you extend the battery life.Unfortunately no speed control, but it's not a big issue.I was surprised that this worked with my 14.4v Makita battery, but of course I cannot tell you if that's safe or recommended. In my experience it worked great, a little less suction and also a little less noise.Love this thing. Perfect for my needs.I've cleaned my whole house and of course the battery is still fine. Knowing these batteries from power tools, I'd expect you can get a LOT of cleaning done on one 3AH battery. Of course this doesn't include a battery or charger. I'd recommend spending the £38 or so for a genuine Makita battery, rather than £30ish for a third party one. My third party one failed after 3 months with my Makita stapler, big waste of money. I have friends who still have 10 year old genuine Makita batteries working great, so I'm now using genuine batteries. As for the charger, I don't know. I read that the original Makita charger can have problems, although it mostly has good reviews so it's probably a fairly decent device most of the time.

Providing you have a Makita LXT battery and charger already (because you own other Makita tools), this is good value and a great addition to your collection. When you get it (and within the 30 day limit) don't forget to register it directly with the manufacturer (Makita) for the free extended warranty (3 years). This vacuum is still a tool and as such it's still eligible for the extended warranty.I find that the suction is better than I expected. If you point it at a pile of sawdust and wood chippings it sucks it up strongly leaving nothing behind. If you see some hairs, dried mud, dust etc on the floor or carpet, it will do a good job getting rid. It is ideally suited to clearing up after small jobs that have involved drilling, chiselling and so on, or car interior cleaning. You could get someone to point it at the hole you are drilling and it would suck up the dust before it even hits the floor. It is NOT suitable for clearing large debris. It is a handheld vacuum with a small bin capacity. It is what it is and you won't be picking up huge chunks of anything up with it.Due to the strong suction and small capacity, it does need emptying often. It's quite easy. Unscrew it, dump the contents and then wipe anything that's clinging to the filter. I'm used to bagless, but I am getting used to it. As for battery consumption, I have a 5Ah battery and the only thing that zaps that quickly is my SDS drill, any other Makita tool seems to last forever on this battery and this vacuum is no exception!

I was recommended this by a friend, had a look at it and thought I would give one a go.I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, it's powerful for such a compact hoover. We live on a boat and it's more than good enough to cope with sand from the chinchilla, sawdust from cutting wood and bedding from previous mentioned Chinchilla. We also have a chicken as a house pet on board, chickens make a mess. She takes dust baths in the chinchilla sand, sending it into the air at vast speeds and distances, she digs sawdust out of the chinchilla cage because it's fun and sends her seeds every when looking for her favourite ones, and this little machine copes with it all.We are very limited for space on our widebeam boat this is much smaller than all the popular brands like Dyson, and although it doesn't have the extreme suction of a Dyson it's much cheaper and does the job.I would recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable well made vacuum cleaner, that's easy to use, light weight and compact.Much easier than dragging our wet and dry around when using it at work too.The filters really easy to clean and comes out easily.Battery life is really good too.If you have any Makita products I would say this is a great addition. I am I bit of a Makita fan so may be a little bias.We have many Makita products all of them are excellent.Read full review...

Initially, I thought the wife might find it handy for small jobs around the house. I wasn't even sure she would want to use it. Since getting it, the wife uses it all the time now. She has really taken a shine to it. It is just so quick and easy to pick up and use. Saves all the faffing about pulling out leads and plugging into an available socket, unplugging and moving to the next room, etc.I have found it very useful for DIY jobs at home or in family or friends' homes. The filter can get clogged up well before the canister is full if there is a lot of finer dust involved.. Emptying can become quite a frequent affair to maintain full suction. It is very easy to empty and clean.I use a brush over the outer nylon filter and take out the cloth inner and whack it a few times off the brush to clear the dust out. This is done outdoors. If you already have the batteries and charger, this is an excellent addition and great value for money.Update 8th December 2016.This has been in use around the house every day since August last year and has given any problems or lost suction. I will be buying the more recent Makita DCL180ZB model as the canister is see through (easier to see when it needs emptying) and just looks generally more appealing for around the house. The original will be kept in the tool bag for work/DIY.

Brilliant piece of kit.I Bought it to use in other peoples houses (for clean up after jobs), but found it so light and handy, I kept it for home use. I did 9 large rooms + a staircase with no problems at all. Obviously with the size of the unit you have to empty fairly regularly, but the lack of weight in this item means a lot less strain on the joints, which believe me is a serious bonus. I will never lug a seriously heavy George vacuum up the stairs again ( I can't knock those either as they are seriously good semi-industrial vacuums, and they wet clean carpets"), but for everyday use this piece of kit is incredible.I cannot recommend this highly enough. Please note I bought this as body only,as I already have batteries, but don't let this put you off, as you can buy makita compatible batteries for a lot less than the originals. I'm not saying the originals are bad, just expensive. As the old saying goes, " you get what you pay for ".10 stars

Having built a collection of Makita power tools and batteries, I took a bit of a punt on this for clearing up after messy DIY jobs and for vacuuming the car without requiring power and/or a 30m extension lead!I've had this for 5 months now and can happily report that it performs both of those tasks fantastically well and more: we have wooden floors throughout downstairs and use this daily to quickly whiz over them without having to get the Henry out.Suction is good and the battery life is excellent - even a 3Ah battery lasts a couple of weeks or so with daily use.The only ever-so-slightly negative comment I can make is that the unit doesn't hold a great deal of dust/debris but it's a quick and simple job to empty, clean the filter and continue so a non-issue for me.One of the best - and certainly most used - Makita cordless tools I've bought.

I already use Makita 18V cordless tools, so this was quite a cheap option for me (I already have batteries+charger, etc). I'm not sure I'd rate it so highly if I had to shell out for those too. But al least the Makita batteries have a good reputation, and are easily (if not cheap) to replace, unlike some other makes I've seen reviewed.Don't expect this to replace a "proper" vacuum cleaner, but for picking up loose dust, floor sweepings, ash and wood chippings around the fireplace it's really good. It will pick up loose debris from a carpet, but not ingrained dirt. I would prefer that it came with a small brush attachment as well as the carpet/floor head and upholstery nozzle that it comes with. The filters need cleaning fairly regularly, but they're easy to get at and remove for cleaning. I was able to find spare filters on the web.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this makita vacuum yet. Have it 5 months now and I have to say it's brilliant. Had the batteries and charger for my power tools and when I saw this on amazon for €38 . Well I thought for that price I'd give it a go. Handy for hoovering up sawdust and so , was I mistaken the wife has had it in the kitchen ever since. Rows over my battery's every morning. Update September 2019 still going strong but if you need to replace the filter you cannot purchase on Amazon.co.uk . You’re going to have to get them on Amazon.com . And you are going to have to get a 10 pack as the 3 pack doesn’t post to the uk . Be careful not to get them on eBay as most of them are not genuine and are paper not fabric. This is not the fault of makita but Amazon uk not having parts for items they sell.

It is what it is, so don't expect to much from this little machine HOWEVER it works very well on a hard floor, picking up dog hair etc & with the 18v battery it runs for quite a long time. The other good thing is that the battery can be recharged in 20 minutes or less but if you have spares, just swop them over. I would recommend you buy a spare filter & cloth (I bought 2 of each) because it works much better with clean filters. To put everything into perspective I bought the other 'famous' British cleaner for £400 & on full power, which is what it needs to do a decent job, it lasted 7 minutes then conked out without any warning. It then takes 4 hours to recharge. The only house that one would clean is a 'dolls house'.I took it back as not being fit for 'my' purpose & got my money back.

Very, very impressed! It's never going to be a powerful mains vacuum, however on it's first outing it's just gone around our entire six roomed (not huge, but certainly not tiny) house and still has plenty of charge. The recharge only took 10 mins, so there must have been lots of charge left. It easily scooped up all dog hair, bits and dust off the hard floors and made a pretty decent job on a couple of rugs. There's an impressive amount of suction for such a light, handy gadget. Container was full and emptied quickly and easily straight into the bin. I'm suspecting that my Henry is now going to rarely see the light of day! The best bit?........... being a Makita,my husband actually took it out of my hands to vacuum the sitting room himself - It must be a MAN's vacuum!!

At £35 delivered (Prime), this would be a good buy if the performance was only OK, but this works very well.I already use the 5Ah battery packs, so it's great not to have yet a different battery and charger. Unlike some cordless vacuums, the crevice tool will attach direct to the body or the 450mm rigid extension tube. The reach with extension tube and crevice tool is 920mm from the handle to the tip. There is a floor cleaning head supplied but I have not used it.If you live in a MakPac world, you could put this in a type 4 case, but I doubt there is an insert for it. As this is a bare unit there is no case, battery or charger supplied. If you buy from Amazon, you have a three year warranty when you register.

If you already have a battery and charger for 18v Makita tools this is ridiculously good value for money. Light, quite well balanced and with reasonable running time with a 3Ah battery it does a good job of the (cold) ash spilled when cleaning out the woodburner, cobwebs (and the spiders) in corners and up high. The storage capacity is limited and the filter collects the cat hair quickly meaning that you have to empty it frequently (so one star off) but that is a small matter for quick jobs compared with wrestling with the main corded machine stored in the understair cupboard. The latter is definitely more powerful but I won't be buying one of those seriously expensive machines they advertiseon the box.

As to be the best and most reliable cordless vacuum on the market to-day. I bought it for myself and my wife has now collared it for herself in fact it's a battle so I've now had to buy an extra 4ha battery so it's always in a ready state for use.Excellent buy I would definitely recommend this vacuum for it's suction and durability, only draw back is it has to be emptied on on a regular basis because it used so much.I did purchase two extra filter bags to swap after a few empties so the dirty bag could be put in the washing machine, on a rotational basis to keep it's suction efficiency up to scratch.Well that's it for now happy vacuuming don't let you wife know or you'll be in the same positionas me.

It's THAT good.Ok, so the dust container is a bit small and needs emptying a bit too frequently and cleaning the paper filter is a bit of a pain. But none of that matters, this unit is brilliant. It's lightweight, simple to use, great suction - picks up anything you could reasonably ask of it. And best of all it's there, ready to just pick up and use. I use it with a 4.0Ah battery and it seems to go on forever. Charging takes minutes (not like some others like Dyson that gives you minutes of use and then take hours to charge).Originally bought this for the car, but now we use it all around the house all the time, so I am going to buy another one for the car. At this price, why not???

30.6.2015

I bought one of these after I saw a friend using one to clean their car. I was saving for a hand held dyson, but I'm glad I didn't bother. This is a great little dynamo. The battery lasts for ages. I use it in my motorhome, but I have also cleaned vertically the entire house before the battery runs out. It's very light & very easy to clean. People have said the filter get blocked. Not a problem. You just twist the top off & give it a shake in the bin each time you've finished with it. You can wash the filter out with water & leave to dry over night. If your confused about the difference between BCL & DCL, the DCL is the newer model. Can't rave about this enough.
