Ok so I’m a Potterhead...there are a lot of us about and we love anything Harry Potter related. I’m loving the new Lego range and when Hedwig was released I just had to have it. It’s one of my favourites so far. It’s quite a technical built but as always the instructions are detailed and as long as you follow them it goes together well. There are Lego technic pieces in it which enables Hedwig to ‘fly’ once he’s built. You wind a handle and the wings move up and down but it’s really articulated so very effective. In my excitement I did make a mistake putting together the wing sections ( one drive wheel on back to front) and I had to take it apart again and rebuild this bit as he wouldn’t fly so be careful as this was a bit annoying. When it’s completed it looks fab. There are a lot of small pieces especially the feathers so be careful not to lose any. I would say that any child over 11 experienced in Lego would manage this on their own but I’m sure Mum or Dad would be happy to get involved. You do get a Harry and Hedwig mini figure too. It took me a couple of evenings so maybe 4 hrs to complete it but I did have my mishap which obviously delayed completion. This is a great addition to any Harry Potter collection or just for anyone who loves Lego. It’s more of a display piece than a play piece once it’s completed. Definitely worth the money and I love it.

This set is pretty good. It is well detailed and has pretty good posability in most areas. The function to move the wings up and down works well, and I like how some positions of the crank can allow you to have the wings be posed upward or downward. The stand is well done, although I do feel it's dumb that the letter has stickers. The minifigure selection is a nice bonus to the set. Hedwig makes sense, but it's also nice that Harry has a new torso, and it works well. The value is pretty solid. There are a lot of pieces for the price, and although the pieces are mostly smaller, the overall size feels right for the price. For the pros, there are 2 things I have an issue with. The mechanism for the wings does have some exposed areas and some odd details throughout it, and in some ways, the body feels a bit smaller than the box makes it look, although that can be offset by the rest of the build looking bigger than on the box. Overall, it's a pretty good set, but I don't think it's perfect due to some of the mechanism being a but exposed. If you're interested in it, I recommend it

I will preface this review by saying, I don't mind Harry Potter, but am not a huge fan. I have collected and built LEGO for decades and am a AFOL. I do not seek out the Harry Potter series sets, with this set and the big castle as the exceptions perhaps. That said, this set is awesome. Fun build, excellent value, and the wing flapping mechanics being very well designed, make this a very attractive set, to me. It is also a very neat looking model, with a really great integrated display stand for this owl. The Harry Potter minfig and small scale Hedwig are a nice included addition in this set. Many small parts and some moving gears and mechanics, may not make this ideal for novice builders or smaller kids, but otherwise this is a rather easy build, with well laid out instructions, that go slow enough in steps for kids of the suggested age to follow along just fine. It does take a few hours of casual uninterrupted building, to put together. Slightly fragile finished model, but it looks and functions fantastically well.

Thank you for this model of Hedwig! I wasn't too keen on buying it in the first place, but after building it, I'd recommend it all over the place. Nice smooth mechanism, yet quite intricate, nice smooth build, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The eyes are nicely printed bricks and I loved the feathers and the attention to details. It took a wee bit above an hour to build, because of refilling the coffee. I'm the type who empties all bags beforehand (yes, even when there are a huge amount of them) and sort all the pieces. I like to have an overview. This took about 40 minutes in addition to the hour. I was surprised at first by the huge number of technic bricks, then went like 'yeh of course, the wings are moving in so many steps!'I would, as probably many fellow potterhead lego builders, wish for Lego to go on designing other creatures from the wizarding world on this level. This was a real treat.

This is a relatively complicated build. You start by building the gear mechanism that moves Hedwig's wings on the stand. To be honest this went together much more smoothly than I anticipated, admittedly I checked that the gears worked correctly each and every step of the way so that I would hopefully not have any problems when the build was completed. I am pleased to say that I didn't, the wings move quite well but the operation isn't particularly smooth.Making and attaching the feathers is also quite fiddly as there are so many tiny pieces involved. Definitely one you need to build on a table top rather than cross legged on the floor. Well worth all the work that goes in to it though, not really a lot of play value but it looks fantastic on my shelf.Number Of Pieces: 630Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.06Build Time: 2.5 Hours

Gorgeous Hedwig Owl!This is a biggish build, four bags and a bit tricky to put together and manual dexterity is a must.Your left with a nice sense of achievement once completed lolPerfect display piece, I have mine in my living room on the mantle piece and it looks lovely there, not too toy like and very ornamental looking once built. The people who came up with this build are outstanding in their job at Lego! (one was definitely Wesley Talbott, has he is photographed in Lego Harry Potter Magical Treasury)Its a bargain for the price too, and I'm soo tempted to purchase another for up stairs. Please Lego more of these please! I'd love a Fawkes like this too!

This is a really good set with a descent exclusive Harry mini-figure and a accurate but small Hegwig Build. The range of motion with the wings is good and the cranking mechanism is smooth. Also the stand is a great edition and I love the colour of the stained glass pieces. However my main problem with the set is that the technic pieces are exposed and the letter at the front is a sicker not a printed piece Overall I believe that this set is a really good purchase for £35 and it has an enjoyable build as well. I would recommend this to any harry potter fan and hope LEGO make more harry potter animal sets E.G Crookshanks

This is a really lovely item for any young Harry Potter fan. The build is challenging, but not off-puttingly so, and the final result is fantastic. Hedwig's wing movement is superb: the wings flex in the middle creating a much more realistic wing flap than you would expect from what is essentially a piece of Lego sculpture. The feather elements are beautiful, and the overall look of Hedwig is just beautiful. If your child loves Harry Potter, this is a perfect addition. My 9 year old needed a little assistance with some of the gears, but this is still doable for younger builders. Highly recommend!

I love this set. I have been waiting for so long and when I finally start -- there's a missing piece in the first bag along the 40ish step. I do not want to wait a week before i can continue, so I collected the small 1x1 pieces from my previous lego set leftovers, and assembled the missing brick myself and finished it. I appreciate that Lego leaves a lot extra 1x1 pieces in each bag. However, I hope the QA could be better so it doesn't happen to anyone again. But for this set specifically: it's marvelous! Although mine is forever imperfect.

This set is amazing!I love it!The reason I have put playability 2 is because it is NOT a set to play with.Buy it to display it!The wings flap beautifully although the mechanism is very rise and fall and by that I mean it goes up...then flops back down with a crash!!!The age recommendation is very accurate because I found it very difficult because of all the tiny, fiddly pieces! The value for money is also super! It may even be a bit UNDER priced!!!The mini figure is 10/10, the display stand made my day, and you MUST get this set.

This Lego model’s likeness to Hedwig makes it truly beautiful. With big bold eyes and wings that move with a lever. Manually head rotates full 360, wing tips come up/down and tail tips fan out. Mini Harry Potter and Hedwig on front, but can stand alone too. A wonderful display piece for collectors or a fun additional for Harry Potter fans. From all angles the model looks incredible, however from below you can see some of the technic pieces. Overall it was a very fun build and it looks fantastic.

Too expensive, from the purchaser's point of view. But reluctantly worth it, because there's simply nothing to match it. This time I bought a role model based on a Harry Potter character, and I put two Potter novels into the package that would explain the relevance of the character to my granddaughter. 9-year old Scarlett is already halfway through the novels, I don't know how the model has fared. Me and my wife are relentless imprisoned at home since last March by this hateful virus thing.

The box included a comprehensive instruction booklet, a sticker sheet and 4 numbered bags - one for each stage of the build. During the build I found it quite easy to follow the step by step instructions, I did stumble in a couple of places but it was easy to correct where I went wrong. The set was really sturdily built and Hedwig came together really well. The fact the wings move as well really sets it apart from other Lego sets! Perfect for Harry Potter fans like me!

I was hoping for a wee bit more of a challenge with this, but it was still a good build nonetheless. I guess I forgot that the symmetry of Hedwig would mean that once one side was done, the other would be easy as. Takes about an hour to build. Loved the simplicity of the mechanics, yet the realism of the movement of the wings. An excellent addition to all the other Harry Potter sets. Oh, not many stickers (4) is a plus as I’m terrible at getting them on well.
