The ship build with the original set (which I did first) was challenging and interesting, but I wanted three masts (see why below), so I purchased the second set and figured out how to modify the first set. I didn't use the pirate skull/crossbones on the sail as my build is not a pirate ship :-) I bought the ship to display at a family reunion celebrating our ancestors immigration. However, it needed to be a similar replica to clipper ships, which were used around the 1860s for people emigrating from the United Kingdom and Ireland. These ships had three masts, whereas the pirate ship in this set only had two. I ended up adding the central portions of the second ship, which gave more realistic dimensions to the clipper ship (but still not the scale). I also filled in the top deck, and added in a hatch, as I didn't like the open deck of the original model (I understand this is done to allow easy access to the canons for play). I ended up with a lot of spare bricks! So I decided to make the Pirate Inn using what was left (I needed to add some more from my spare parts collection.) It took a little bit of creative thinking at times, but I got there in the end. I tend to modify most of the sets when I get them. I'm pleased with the overall look of both models. See photos. My only disappointment is that the instructions quite clearly show on pages 2, 5 and 7 that there are TWO barrels. However, there only ONE barrel in the bag (this was the same for the second set). In the parts list of the second booklet (for Pirate Island) Part No 6278989 (the barrel) is listed as 1x. So I'm very confused, LEGO, as to whether there should be 2 barrels in the set, or one? If there should be two barrels in each set, then I am missing 2x barrels in total.Apart from that disappointment, it's an enjoyable build, especially with the 3 in 1 aspect. I'm not that keen on the shark or birds, as they don't really seem to fit with the set (someone else commented they are a bit cartoonish, and I agree). However, that is minor. It would also be nice to have a female minifigure. However, these can be added from other sets.

I can't say how much I appreciate Lego bringing out so many Pirate based builds this year. As I was building these it took me back to my childhood wanting big Lego sets but not being able to afford it, and just having fun playing with the basic pirate mini-figs and letting my imagination do the rest. The three builds were really enjoyable with enough different techniques and variations that made each one unique. The Pirate ship was the most straight forward as it went through in bag order using most of the parts. The pub was a little less organised with parts spread across every bag, so basically just dump it all out and go searching. Skull island was about in the middle. The ship is very cool with a lot of fun playable features for kids, the gang plank into the sharks mouth especially had my mini-figs dreading going overboard. Skull Island mouth opening to the treasure cave was a very cool touch and a half-turn keeps it open so your mini-figs can either find the treasure or store their ill gotten gains. All in I would say these three sets have been the most fun builds I've done in a while and in terms of display, I'm super happy as they go along with my Pirates of Barracuda Bay set perfectly. The photo's show the 3 sets and I've started to do some detail work (some using the extra parts from sets), I especially love the switchable face on the striped shirt pirate as the fearful look lets you have a lot of fun (as you can see from the shark photo).

This is my first Lego ship and I am really impressed with the build. I would much rather see this as a stand alone set instead of a 3-in-1 but I have to take what I can get and I'm just happy Lego has released another Pirate ship. At first I didn't want to purchase this set bc I didn't think the brick-built sails looked as good as cloth. I don't have a ship with cloth sails to compare this to, but the brick built sails look good. Again, I would have rather had a new ship in the Pirate theme or even and expert Creator stand alone set bc although I really like the set, I do believe it is lacking in some aspects. The set only includes 2 cannons. There are four cannon ports. The set only includes 3 mini figures and a skeleton. I think for this size of a set and price we should get 4 or even 5 mini figures. That's why I say a stand alone set would have been better. There are extra pieces after building the ship that could've been more figures and 2 more cannons. Overall this is a fun set and a beauty to display. I hope Lego continues to release Pirate ships often in the future. If so I will be buying them.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thrilled with our Lego 3in1 Pirate Ship- the build and quality are exceptional. It took my 12 yr old granddaughter and myself a few weekends to create all 3 structures (but we also had help from cats and a dog with a long wagging tail lol). Challenging but not difficult-and in true Lego fashion sturdy and solid once built. While I am impressed with all of the details of the decorative pieces she absolutely fell in love with the little shark when he was built(big Shark Week/Sharknado fans) We really loved that the biggest part of the structures are constructed with the regular Lego bricks we are used to and not solid preformed pieces or sheets. The different colors add additional dimension and a more realistic look, and the lattice pieces really make the structures pop.The little characters crack me up, that skeleton is hilarious..and being able to change faces adds a new level to Pirate play. Once built these creations kept us engaged for hours of swashbuckling entertainment, seriously good old fashioned play for all of us :)

I don’t know where to start! This is the first LEGO kit I’ve purchased for myself. After my own 4yr old has gotten into LEGO big time over the last 6 months and playing with him and building some of the kits, it reignited the same passion I had growing up when I played with LEGO. Having always wanted a pirate ship as a kid but my folks unable to afford them at the time I thought why not buy myself one now! This build was fantastic and the amount of pieces for the price was excellent. The finished ship is not small at all and really has presence! The built up sails look really good and I thought the shark is also really well done. Lots of other little gems like swords and guns, treasure and canons and even a skeleton crew member. I’m waiting for the Ideas Barracuda set to come back into stock and I’ll be adding it to my fleet too! Haven’t built the other two builds as the ship looks to nice to pull apart.

Having just finished this set I am here to say it is frankly the best pirate ship set I have seen to date that strikes a perfect balance between grandeur and just silly fun. Whether you are an adult or a child this will really scratch that itch for a nice ship. The build is fun and it has many small details that add a good feeling of color to the vessel. Now I have one small issue that I will describe here and it will not deduct points from the set but some of the brighter colored bricks have these white injection mold nubs on them. They are a bit more prominent than they used to be. Hopefully Lego will notice and figure out what is causing this. A must buy.Everyone needs at least one Lego pirate ship and right now this is the best one. The Pirates of Barracuda bay one feels a bit too serious for me.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The new LEGO Pirate Ship is amazing! This set can actually build three different sets all in one. The instruction booklets for each build are included. We decided to build the actual pirate ship itself. The build took my 12 year old a couple days, working for 2-3 hours each time. He didn’t rush to build it, so I’m sure it could be built quicker. The features of the built ship are pretty awesome! Our favorite parts were the sail of the ship and the working cannons! They actually shoot little cannonballs out of them, my boys thought this was so cool. The pirate ship comes with a few different Lego mini figures and an awesome shark with working jaws! This has by far been my sons favorite LEGO build he has done.

We sent this to our grandson for Xmas and he was really pleased with it. He’s 12 years old and he’s a fan of Lego but this set was a bit different to sets he’s had in the past. He has quite a lot of Spider-Man sets so this is his first pirate ship. Great for the winter months when the weather is horrible. It has over 1200 pieces but I don’t think he will have any problems building it on his own. It’s got a good selection of mini figures and apparently there are lots of little details within the ship to engage a young builder. It’s a decent size when it’s finished so great to play with afterwards or to display. All Lego sets are expensive but you do get what you pay for. Great build quality and fabulous design.Anyway this gift was well received

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Lego Creator 31109 3 in 1 Pirate Ship set with 1260 pieces and it was a BEAST! We had an amazing time putting it together. My 12 year old grandson loves LEGO's and Pirates so this was a home run hit for this Grandma! It wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be but it was still a bit of a challenge. Between work and school stuff we had it done in 4 evenings and it looked great. I like the size of it (not too big but not small either). He is proudly displaying it on his night stand. But we are definitely going to do the Skull Island as soon as he gets ready to take it apart.Lego has been a favorite in our home for years and this one was no exception- great product!

I have always liked my pirate ships and so when I first saw it was attracted to it ! I was a little put off by the plastic sails but I took a gamble.Wow, I am impressed. The details are amazing, love the fact that it’s all built via “blocks” - no preformed hulls - amazing how the contours of the hull come together. It’s very elegant !!The scale is just right for a Lego pirate. Scale is probably one of the things that has impressed me most - it’s just right. The dreaded sails work ! The guy ropes compliment the look. Great build!! May have to buy another for an MOC. Well done

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My grandson(11) and I had tons of fun putting this pirate ship together. It was a bit challenging to fit all the pieces together but we made a game of who could find the right pieces. It probably took us longer to build this ship than others but we had so much fun, we lost track of time. The colors are really vibrant and it’s Lego, so the quality is always there. Of course, my grandson has to be different, so he takes blocks away from areas and adds them to other areas. It’s interesting to see his creativity at work.

This is an amazing build.Pros.Full brick built, no solid hull or cloth sailsAwesome little shark build to get you started.Very detailed and lots of texture varietyOpening captain's cabin, the top and both sides openConsIt's a tad small, making it 2-4 studs longer would have made it more impressive. The pirate flag hanging on the back, the bird and the skull and crossbones on the sails all don't look quite right.Price while good for the part count is too high. The 2 lanterns on the back easily fall off

My sons, aged 7 and 9, have loved building this item. They have taken turns following the instructions and enjoyed building elements of the ship. They found the instructions easy to follow and love the completed product. They have built it as the ship for now, as That was their favourite design, but I know they are looking forward to changing it to another design soon. They love that the instruction book clearly sets out the steps for each design and that they can take it apart and rebuild it.

Lego as usual is hours of fun for the whole family, and it looks great. The instructions were very easy to follow step by step with the numbered bags and numbered pages. The hours just fly away with the fun. Attention to detail with the navigation lanterns being colour coded to the working cannons which fun on there own. My two daughters loved the pirate ships and to be totally honest I loved it too. This by far was the best Lego construction we have done. My favourite has to be the Shark.
